Twisted Wonderland Dorm Leaders connections to Disney protagonists
Recently I saw a post about how the housewardens have aspects of not only their villains, but their heroes too.
I’ve thought this too for a long time and just wanted to ramble and elaborate my thoughts on them.
Riddle has the Queen of Hearts Irrationally, discipline and sternness. But he also has Alice's curiosity, her stubbornness to give up (a good and bad thing) and her innocence. He also parallels the way it is implied that adults do not take Alice’s concerns/ feelings into consideration.
Leona has Scar's apathetic nature, his underhandedness, calculating personality. But I've always thought of his laziness, his need to run away from his duties more of a reflection on Simba and the way he avoided his past trauma for so long. Leona also has pride; a trait that is reflected in a negative light in Scar and a positive side for Simba.
Azul has Ursala's greediness, her fake charm, and her cut throat business attitude. But he also has Ariel's love for learning new things, the feeling as if they don’t belong in their own skin, the desire to change who they are to get the life they want; or perhaps be the person they always wanted to be.
Jamil is interesting. He shares Jafar’s lust for power, position, and to be seen as better than all others; as well as his two faced nature. But he and Kalim almost share the protagonist's traits. While Kalim gets Jasmine/The Sultans privilege, naivety, and optimism about people and the outside world; he also gets Alladin’s kindness. Whereas Jamil shares Jasmine’s and Genie’s desire for freedom. Free from duties, free from their bounds of their respective roles.
Vil is a little difficult, because of the existence of Neige, he doesn’t quite share many qualities with Snow White. Interestingly enough he seems to be the most separated from his protagonist: counterpart. I could almost argue he shares traits with the 7 dwarfs. While, he is obsessed with being “the fairest of them all”, vain, and can be jealous, and pompous. One cannot deny that he is a multifaceted character and a hard worker. If I did have to give a trait from Snow White to Vil it would be the standards of self care she holds herself and the 7 dwarfs too. Despite all his flaws, Vil is very caring to his loved ones and even nurturing, making them do what’s best for them, even if they don’t like or understand it; much like Snow White is to the Dwarfs.
Idia shares a lot of traits with Hercules and Meg. His personality is one that is pretty different from his Great 7 counterpart, at least on the surface.
While he has Hades gloom and doom; anger and apathy over his lot in life, his intelligence for strategy, lack of empathy and sympathy for others. As well as the willingness to manipulate people so that he can “win”. Idia also shares Hercules desire to fit in, to belong, to be a hero to the people he cares about. He shares both Hercules and Meg's willingness to do anything for the people they love; to the point of self harm. And he share’s Megs, Hercules, and Hades desire to escape a fate in life they feel they don’t deserve. Most importantly, which I feel a lot of people overlook. Hercules desires to be normal (at least in the beginning of the movie.)
Malleus is also interesting, I suspect his story wasn’t solely influenced by the Disney Sleeping Beauty classic, but also the live action Maleficent movie. Which makes Maleficent the protagonist and recontextualized her lore and character. Making her the new protagonist. In this way it’s very clear how Malleus is both the antagonist and protagonist. But to stay true to the original animated films I’ll just focus on that. It’s very obvious how Malleus is similar to Maleficent. He can be petty, place himself above others, unempathetic, quick to anger/frustration. But like Aurora he is very sheltered from the rest of the world, he longs for connection with other people and wishes not to be known just for his title, but the person he is.
This connection to the protagonist is what makes the twist characters a Twist on the villains. The idea that villains and heroes are partially both victims of circumstances and if things were different maybe one or the other would be labeled a “hero” or “villain”. I really appreciate the much more gray-scale approach they took; and what that could mean once you really dive into the lore, history, and worldbuilding they're doing.
Though that's mostly hc stuff for now.
Anyway this is a bit rambling but I just wanted to get my thoughts out there.

im surprised this hasn't been requested yet,, but could you please do malleus, jade, floyd, silver and trey with a reader who is like alice kingsleigh? im talking about the live-action alice, not the animated one (im unsure if they act the same, its been a while since i watched the animated one).
The LA and the animated versions are quite different. Gender-neutral reader.
Trey Clover
You were as brave as you were adventurous, and he appreciated that about you. However, your sense of adventure often ended up with you in trouble with Riddle, and this baker had to bail you out with a Get-Out-of-Jail-Free card (a strawberry tart) more times than he can count. You loved standing up for what you believed was right, and you didn’t think the Queen’s rules were just at all.
Trey loved hearing about your own world. The different cultures and how you were seen as crazy always amused him. However, whenever you got to the parts where you were either going to have a spouse chosen for you or you were going to be thrown into a mental asylum because you had the ability to travel through mirrors and get from Twisted Wonderland back to your world… or so you claimed, according to your world, he was in disbelief. Your land seemed even more twisted than anything Twisted Wonderland has to offer.
All that aside, you do have to admit that the treats your beloved baker makes are better than the Eat Me! pastry that you had consumed however many months ago. It did increase your size by a very significant amount… you almost destroyed Heartslabyul. However, you just drank the Drink Me! potion and you shrank down to the size of a pencil. Trey took it upon himself to make sure that you weren’t squashed, and you sat on his shoulder.
The Vice Housewarden knows of your distaste for the patriarchy, but this man was written by a woman (literally and figuratively). When he threaded his fingers through yours and brought the back of your hand to his lips for a gentle kiss, you could tell that it was genuine love that he felt for you. He had no intention to ‘tame’ you. No, he wanted to be the person you returned home to, and you were grateful for that.
Jade Leech
He was intrigued by you, to say the least. You marched so bravely into Azul’s office that day and you demanded that your friends be freed of their contract. Considering you were a sea captain and knew much more about shady deals with pirates than Azul knows about making shady deals, you were able to find loopholes within the loopholes created. You took your time and read through the fine print and pointed out errors, and seeing the cecaelia so riled up in anger made the eel’s heart beat quickly.
That is how you both became friends, actually, and romantic partners. Your sense of adventure aligned with his, and you both swam and hiked with each other. You lived an active lifestyle, something that doesn’t quite fit within the societal standards of your world, so keeping up with Jade was no challenge for you. Every single time you make it up a mountain, you always ask about the different mushrooms and their properties, and this eel is more than happy to tell you.
Your Unique Magic was definitely strange, as you had the ability to travel between entire worlds. For any holiday break, you were able to go back home. However, you rushed back into Twisted Wonderland in what seemed to be a tattered straitjacket. Your eyes were a bit sunken in, and you seemed a bit woozy. That’s when you told him, with slurred speech, that you had been sent to a mental asylum and injected with a bit of medicine to make you go to sleep before you pulled the syringe out and stabbed it into the doctor.
Jade took you to his room where he helped you take off the straitjacket, offering you one of his own shirts and hoodies. Then, he tucked you into bed so that you could sleep off the medicine’s effects. Oh, he definitely wanted the doctor who did this to you to pay, but for some reason, he was not able to go to your world like you were able to. But your tired ramblings of forced marriage and societal standards made him want to find a way so he could make those humans pay for touching his beloved.
Floyd Leech
He, too, was intrigued by you when you marched into Azul’s office and demanded to read your friends’ contracts. He did get bored when you sat down and read the fine print, but when you pointed out a loophole that managed to get your friends out, Floyd was genuinely surprised. No one has ever managed to do that before, which made his hyperfixation on you even more apparent and present.
But, that ‘hyperfixation’ wasn’t a ‘hyperfixation’... it was a crush. Your adventurous personality both aligned with and contradicted his. You never made him bored. You liked playing basketball with him so that he could get extra practice. You loved sneaking him away during his 15 minute break at the Mostro Lounge just so that you could hang out with him a bit more. Also, when he was in a bad mood, you were not afraid of being squeezed because you faced an entire jabberwocky before. A grumpy eel was nothing to you.
During that break where you were originally going to go home, he did not want you to leave. Well, just a few days into the break, you jumped back through the mirror in a straitjacket and you were stumbling about. You ran as fast as you could to Octavinelle and into the [closed] Lounge. Floyd rushed to see what was wrong, and you went on and on about how you were thrown into a mental asylum and injected with medicine that would put you to sleep. He picked you up and over his shoulder and took you to his room where you slept off the medicine’s effects. He cuddled close to you, and you would never know how angry he was.
Even though it doesn’t seem like he pays attention, he knows that nothing matters to you more than continuing your father’s legacy as a sea captain. However, he never wanted you to go back to your world if it would kill you. After all, he can’t function without his shrimpy. Anyways, you could be a sea captain in Twisted Wonderland, and he would even go with you. He could swim as much as he wanted, he could sail as much as he wanted, and he would get to be with you.
Malleus Draconia
He knew you were different based on the way you walked up to him and just introduced yourself. You held no fear of him, but you didn’t know who he was. When he told you to call him what you will, this intrigued you even more. You both found yourselves excited to meet up each night, as you got to know more about this mysterious new friend that you had made yourself acquainted with.
When you inevitably discovered who he truly was, you understood where he was coming from. Nothing really changed, but you often teased him about keeping more secrets from you. Eventually, a flower of romantic interest bloomed between the two of you, and every single time he brought you back to Ramshackle, he would wish you farewell by placing a polite and loving kiss on the back of your hand. When he looks back up at you, you can feel your heart flutter a bit because of the amount of love he looks at you with.
Malleus had no intention of ‘taming’ you either. If you were to rule beside him, you would do wonderfully as-is. Your world did not share the same view, and one night you had told him about your winter break when he came back. You were taken in by Octavinelle when you ran back through the mirror from your world in a straitjacket and you had some medicine injected into you at that point. The dragon prince was absolutely angry, and a storm was starting to form as you went on and on about the happenings.
If you think you are ever going back to your world, you are sadly mistaken. He is not letting you go back just so you can be tossed back into an insane asylum. He knows about your desire to carry out your father’s legacy, but you can do that here. Actually, he still hates the idea of you being away from him, but it will do because at least you would be in Twisted Wonderland. Plus, there is no chance that you are going to fall for someone else, so he has nothing to worry about.
Silver
He reminded you of the dormouse that you had met. He always fell asleep, which was unfortunate when one was as adventurous as you were. But you were not going to let him lie in the middle of the hallway just to be trampled. It was with a tad bit of difficulty that you pulled him onto a chair and off of the floor. However, he miraculously woke up because of all the extra movement, just to see you really close to his face. To say he was startled [and flustered] would be an understatement.
This was a start to a rather interesting relationship. Since he was a knight, you compared him to the card knights in Underland, but found there to be no comparison at all. After all, he was not rushing to paint the roses red. He was very serious compared to your first year friends (excusing Jack and Sebek), but that was what you liked about him. He, too, was the constant in your life, even if you had only known him for a short period of time.
Silver appreciates peace, but he appreciates you even more. So, when he comes back from Briar Valley, and he hears whispers about you being thrown into a mental asylum back home, he is running around trying to find you. He found you at Ramshackle, staring at a straitjacket with a look of absolute betrayal on your face. That was when he realized that all the whispers were correct. He pulled you into his arms, grateful that you were okay.
From that point on, he kind of treats you differently. He doesn’t want you going back to your world if that is how they are going to treat you. No, he will keep you safe because he doesn’t want you to get hurt. He supports your dream of being a sea captain, and he will help you learn the different lands from a multitude of different maps so that you could be confident in the geography of Twisted Wonderland.

Top 6 Epic Mickey Characters
Today is the release of the new “Rebrushed” Edition of a game I loved a ton growing up: “Epic Mickey.” I was OBSESSED with this game when it came out way back in 2010, and at the time it came out, it was treated as a big deal! There was a ton of merchandising and advertisement for this title, more so than you would get for most Disney games, and it’s not hard to see why: the game promised to provide a different kind of adventure for Mickey Mouse, with a darker tone and a focus on more obscure Disney characters and old cartoons. Nowadays, in hindsight, I feel the game could have gone even further than it did (and, apparently, the creators WANTED it to go further than it did, but either due to budget constraints, corporate meddling, or a bit of both, they couldn’t), but I still have a huge soft spot for it. It’s probably my favorite thing to feature Mickey Mouse as a heroic character, and it still has a notable cult following. Ironically for a game that focused on the obscure and the forgotten, the game itself sort of faded into obscurity for a while; despite the release of two sequels (namely a console follow-up called “Power of Two,” and a portable spin-off called “Power of Illusion”), the franchise sort of fizzled out pretty quickly, and for a long time it was seen as naught but an unusual footnote in the history of Disney and its presence in gaming. To celebrate the return of this game to store shelves (and, I believe, online distribution), I decided to do a quick rundown of my Top 6 characters from the games. Why Top 6, you may ask? Simple: because after six, it all gets kerbobbled. It’s harder for me to choose and rank characters beyond that point, simply because who I favor among them changes depending on my mood and how recently I’ve revisited portions of the game. My Top 6, however, have consistently been my Top 6 - both in terms of choices and ranking - pretty much from day one, and I don’t think will ever change, so they’re the ones I feel most comfortable discussing. Also, I’m going to attempt to avoid spoilers with this list, so I’m going to keep focused as much as possible on the first game, with less emphasis on the sequels. (Fortunately, all six characters appear in the first game, though some of the Honorable Mentions are from later titles.) I'll also try to avoid giving away too many of the twists in the plot, for those who will be playing Epic Mickey for the first time via this Rebrushed Edition. With that said, let’s dive into the Wasteland! These are My Top 6 Favorite Characters from Epic Mickey!
6. Pete.
What many people may not realize about Mickey’s famed arch-enemy is that Pete is actually the single longest-lasting recurring Disney character in history. Pete doesn’t just predate Mickey himself, he even predates Oswald the Lucky Rabbit: the character first showed up as a recurring villain in the silent animation/live-action hybrid “Alice Comedies,” with his first appearance dating back to 1925. That’s a whole three years before Mickey, and two years before Oswald! It’s therefore not entirely surprising to see Pete in the Wasteland, especially since the character has had so many different guises and roles throughout his long history…a fact that Epic Mickey takes humorous advantage of. You see, there isn’t just ONE Pete in the Epic Mickey universe. Oh, no. There are no less than FOUR. “Pete Prime” (the one picture here) is Big Bad Pete, who appears to be the town sheriff of Mean Street. Next there’s Small Pete, who lives in the Gremlin Village and is comically dressed up like a little Dutch girl doll. Then there’s Petetronic, who is basically what you’d get if Pete cosplayed as Commander Sark and is the head of Tomorrow City. Finally, there’s Pete Pan: a parody of Peter Pan who flies around Ventureland, mostly spending his time annoying the Wasteland’s version of Captain Hook. Interestingly, most of these Petes seem to be relatively nice characters, rather than real menaces to toon society…but be careful: a character with such a long and checkered past may not always be trustworthy.
5. Gremlin Gus.
Of all the characters left stranded and forgotten in the Wasteland, the Gremlins are easily the most obscure of the bunch. The characters were conceived in the mind of Roald Dahl - the author best known for his works of children’s literature, such as “The BFG” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Dahl wrote a story simply called “The Gremlins” that was going to be transformed into a Disney movie…but for various reasons, the film never came to pass. The book itself has fallen into utter obscurity, and the scrapped project is largely unknown by even the most ardent Disney fans: I, myself, only knew of the Gremlins prior to Epic Mickey because of a paper ad for a re-release of the book in the early 2000s. In “Epic Mickey,” however, the Gremlins are a major part of the universe: since the movie was never really a thing, and the book is so little-known nowadays, the creators of the game were able to create their own twist on the Gremlins unique to this world. They are essentially the custodians of the Wasteland, performing a variety of jobs and services to keep the place ship-shape. The most prominent of them all is their leader, Gus. Gremlin Gus is a sort of “Papa Smurf” figure for the Gremlins, and acts as Mickey’s guide through the games, providing bits of advice and various hints along the rodent’s journey. Think of him along the lines of the Cheshire Cat from the American McGee’s Alice games, or one of Link’s many companions (such as Navi, Midna, or Fi) from The Legend of Zelda. In the first game, the vocal effects for Gremlin Gus were provided by veteran voice actor Bob Joles. In “Power of Two,” Gus was given a proper speaking voice, provided by none other than the Dread Pirate Roberts himself, Cary Elwes…and I can’t help but think such casting is why they perhaps gave Gus a few TOO MANY lines in the sequel, buuut that’s another story for another time.
4. Mickey Mouse.
I debated whether or not to give Mickey a place in the ranks of his own, for various reasons, but after some deliberation…yeah. I think he’s earned it in this case. As I said in the preamble, this is probably my favorite thing made to feature Mickey himself, and Mickey is part of that. This is one of those rare occasions where the premise of the story largely results from Mickey’s own actions and inactions, rather than the machinations of some other scoundrel: it is due to Mickey’s own foolery that the Phantom Blot and the Thinner Disaster are created. It is due to Mickey’s popularity that Oswald and several other characters in the Wasteland are forgotten to begin with. Now, Mickey has to essentially remember and salvage the very things that are in ruin because of him. The game plays around with this idea of saving and destroying through its chief mechanic: the magic paintbrush Mickey uses can destroy things by shooting streams of hyper-acidic thinner, or create through use of an enchanted paint. Different obstacles can be overcome by different uses of the two tools, and some can be dealt with in multiple ways: choice is a key factor of Mickey’s story, as well as the player. Originally, the game makers wanted to go even further with this idea, with the player’s decisions making Mickey more good or more evil throughout the story, but while the final result may be toned down from their initial schemes, I think it still works brilliantly. Mickey is still the fun-loving hero we all recognize, but there’s that little bit of mischief and extra depth to the character present because of this idea of choice and the way he’s depicted. The sequels continued these ideas, with choice remaining a major part of the story in “Power of Two” once more, and paint and thinner still being equally useful in “Power of Illusion.” Bottom line: move over, Kingdom Hearts. THIS is how you make Disney’s most recognizable rodent into an action-ready gaming star.
3. The Phantom Blot.
This character is the main antagonist of the original Epic Mickey, and has been referred to by multiple names: Shadow Blot, Storm Blot, King Blot, or simply “The Blot.” Whatever you call this character, I’ll always refer to him as “The Phantom Blot,” since that is who the character basically is meant to be. In Disney comics and cartoons, the Blot has been an enemy of Mickey Mouse for many years - dating back to the 1940s, in fact. Typically, he’s depicted as a campy supervillain; a costumed criminal mastermind garbed in an inky cloak and cowl. However, in “Epic Mickey,” the Blot is reimagined as something far more monstrous: a creature made of ink, accidentally formed by Mickey when he meddled with some magic in Yen Sid’s workshop, the Blot is the cause of all the misery going on in the Wasteland. This Blot eventually turns out to be bigger than a castle, and able to send out swarms of “bloticles” to literally drain the life from the Wasteland. The Blot is intelligent, but not complex: he has no purpose other than to destroy, and longs to take Mickey’s heart, since only toons with hearts can leave the Wasteland. With that power, he can venture forth and continue to devour other worlds of their energy and life. I had heard of the Phantom Blot before Epic Mickey, but I really didn’t know much about the character: this radical reinvention, for a kid, was quite the introduction. And while I’ve since looked into the ACTUAL Phantom Blot and found great joy in his exploits, I still enjoy this reimagining. In my opinion, the Blot is one of the best video game villains of all time; more a force of cruel nature than anything else, he is a terrifying beast few players will ever forget.
2. The Mad Doctor.
So, here’s something interesting to note: out of all the “forgotten” characters featured in Epic Mickey, I actually knew almost all of them when the game came out. Some of them I knew pretty well, others I didn’t but I had at least heard of before the game’s release. The one exception to this rule was this guy: the Mad Doctor. The Doc was the titular antagonist of the Mickey Mouse cartoon “The Mad Doctor” from 1933 - one of the few Disney cartoons that’s actually managed to fall into the public domain. Many consider it to be one of the darkest Mickey cartoons ever made, and in “Epic Mickey,” the infamous mad scientist has not mellowed much with age. It’s explained that the Mad Doctor, when he first came to the Wasteland, was seemingly a friendly figure, and became an ally to Oswald. He was considered one of Oswald’s best friends, in fact. However, it’s ultimately revealed that the Mad Doctor was always just as wicked as he was in the cartoon; biding his time till he could make a grab for power. When the Blot came to the Wasteland, in the wake of the Thinner Disaster, the Mad Doctor turned on the good people of the kingdom, creating an army of cartoon cyborgs called “Beetleworx” (part toon, part machine) to help conquer everything. There’s a lot more I could say about the Mad Doctor that makes him interesting - especially in regards to the sequel games and a few twists in the launch title - but since I’m trying to avoid spoilers, I think it’s best I save a lot of that for another time. Suffice it to say, this was a great introduction to a great villain and a great cartoon, and I’m glad that Epic Mickey was able to give a little bit more attention to the Mad Doctor for modern audiences.
1. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
Oswald was the main reason I got so interested in Epic Mickey so long ago, and was, in fact, more or less the reason the game happened to begin with. One of Walt Disney’s earliest creations, Oswald - who was the inspiration for not only Mickey himself, but also Bugs Bunny of WB fame in real-life - was the world’s first major cartoon star. After copyright issues led to Walt Disney breaking away from Universal Studios, and forming his own company, Oswald rapidly declined in popularity, and eventually pretty much vanished off the face of the Earth. In the real world, when Disney bought the rights to Oswald back from Universal many years later, this immediately transitioned into using him in a big (marketable) way, which led to the idea of Epic Mickey. Warren Spector (head of the team behind the game) became interested the instant Oswald was mentioned, being a huge animation buff, and as production went on, Oswald became a richer and richer character. In early concepts of the game’s story, he was actually going to be one of the main villains of the story, but by the time the game came out, he had transformed into the secondary protagonist. In the fictional story of the games, Oswald is the ruler of the Wasteland…but unlike others who are more or less happy with their existence, Oswald’s feelings of dejection have steadily consumed him. He is portrayed as Mickey Mouse’s long-lost brother; he resents the fame and fortune Mickey got, while he was basically left to rot. He is so obsessed that he creates a place called Mickeyjunk Mountain, where he spends countless hours brooding over his failures and his lost family, surrounded by remnants of Mickey’s fame that span decades; everything from bubble gum machines to NES game cartridges. The adventure in the Wasteland gives Mickey a chance to not only connect with his past and save the world, but to reconnect with and save Oswald, too. It’s the relationship between Oswald and Mickey, beyond all else, that makes the games so powerful, and Frank Welker - who provided Oswald’s vocal effects/voice in all the games - gives probably one of my favorite performances in his entire career. And keep in mind, this is the guy who played characters like Megatron, Garfield, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Fred AND Scooby from various takes on Scooby-Doo, and more “creature voices” than you can shake a stick at. To call this among his best is saying a LOT. For both his fictional prominence and historical significance, it’s no surprise that I name Oswald the Lucky Rabbit as My Favorite Epic Mickey Character. Case closed.
HONORABLE MENTIONS INCLUDE…
The Three Little Pigs.
Horace Horsecollar.
Gremlin Prescott.
Clarabelle Cow.
Captain Hook.

APRIL IN WONDERLAND
I finally have some designs!
You already know April's design, to make it I was guided a lot by the clothes of the time, and it has some details like the black and white pattern and Alice's necklace from American Mcgee games
April meets the Queen of Hearts, I wanted to do the same as in Tim Burton's Live Action movie, this is the dress that April has when she meets the Queen of Hearts, I also guided myself a little with the dress that Alice had when she met to the queen in that same movie
April meets the White Queen. Same as above, the dress she wears when she meets the White Queen, I wanted to do it with a musical theme, since I felt it would be boring just white.
Chesire Cat Donnie. I was guided a lot by Kitty Cheshire from Ever After High and the smiling cat from Twisted Wonderland. For example, the rings in his ears with arrows and "Up" and "Down" as well as the tail with the clock
So, I had a stroke while making Leo. I took the mad hatter from the Tim Burton movie as a reference. In his sleeve he has a small sewing kit since, since he is a hatter, he has to be prepared, right? And I found it interesting that the ribbon on Leo's mask comes from the hat instead of his head. He also has 11/6 in his hat but in poker cards. I also felt that, being a mad hatter, not even the tie would have to make any sense.
The white rabbit definitely had to be Usagi. I found it funny that he had the old man's glasses that the white rabbit in the Disney animated movie had. At the same time, the small umbrella pin he has refers to the umbrella that the white rabbit carried in the movie
The White Queen. At first I thought it could be Sunita, but miraculously I had the idea that it was Karai, anyway, I put all my effort into the dress
Queen of hearts. In the same case, at first I thought it could be Cassandra, but I clearly ended up with the great Big Mama
I'm still missing Mikey as the March Hare and Raph as a card from the Queen of Hearts. But that will go in a next post, thanks for waiting!

l'aventure de canmom à annecy - épisode DEUX - mardi 1: Hyakuemu
today started with something pretty cool - I went to a 'making of' session for the upcoming anime film ひゃくえむ (Hyakuemu, lit. 100m) by the team behind On-gaku: My Sound.
The panel consisted of director Kenji Iwaisawa, char designer/sakkan Keisuke Kojima, art director and bg artist Keikankun Yamaguchi and producer Akane Taketsugu. They answered questions in Japanese, which was then interpreted into French, and if you had the phone app, interpreted again from French into English simultaneously, which meant it was a bit of a game of telephone but it worked surprisingly well.
The film is using a pretty unusual rotoscope process: much like The Case of Hana and Alice, it's filmed and edited in live action, which is then used as a basis for animation at a reduced framerate.
The character designs are fairly stylised compared to the live action, and the animation process seems to follow a fairly traditional process of roughs - sakkan corrections - keys - inbetweens, with the twist that it's all done digitally inside clip studio.
They made a fairly detailed comparison to On-gaku - which I evidently need to see asap, these guys are legit. By comparison they described this as a larger team, and the film as a much more realist style, and more of a commercial than a personal project. Still it's definitely a small team, with only one person apparently responsible for both live action and comp.
Art director Yamaguchi is evidently very talented, but she spoke about feeling inexperienced at the style demanded by the film (though she was the sole colourist for years on On-gaku), and having to experiment a lot. All the film's bgs are painted physically in watercolour for the warmth this brings, based on detailed tracings of photos. She showed one very complex bg animation sequence with 29 drawings, and Iwaisawa apologised for making her do it. They talked about taking inspiration from the backgrounds in Akira.
Kojima showed various settei, and talked about how he'd adjust performances during animation.
Iwaisawa described how they cast actors that resembled the manga characters and dressed them in rough costumes for animation reference, and also directing them to act in a more exaggerated, theatrical style. He also mentioned his excitement at certain sequences, describing the film's ending as like a rock festival. He described his main reason for using rotoscope as the energy he'd be able to get by editing the live action footage prior to animation, as well as his prior experience using rotoscope for short films.
They didn't show a ton of footage but apparently the film is about 75% done, with the live action fully shot. At the end they asked if anyone was interested in working on the film and got a flood of volunteers. All in all it seems like the perfect case of how to do a rotoscope film, and I'm really excited to see it next year - maybe it will hit the same as Slam Dunk.

~ Welcome to TurquoiseSea ~
This is an 18+ Art Account.
Which means this account does not want minors interact with this blog. Any ageless blogs will be blocked immediately. If you’re an adult who hasn’t put their age in their bio yet, I advised you to do that immediately, especially to the people who are new to tumblr. People will think your are just a bot and will block you immediately if they don’t see anything written on your bio.
Anyways, once again, NO MINORS ARE ALLOWED TO INTERACT NOR FOLLOW THIS ACCOUNT. THIS IS AN ADULT SPACE. YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE. And no. I do not care if you’re turning 18 this month or 3 days or a week early, you’ll have to wait to interact this blog until you’re actually 18.
Another thing, I don’t want any, pedos, zoophiles, homophobic/transphobic content interact with me, keep that shit away from me.
Who Am I?
Hello! I am TurquoiseSea! But that’s just my username for art. My actual name is Jocelyne, but I usually go as Yoshi!
Why Yoshi? It’s just a nickname I had since childhood and I prefer that more than my actual name ^v^!

Just a heads up, in this account I’ll also be venting through text posts and vent arts and will let you know that I’m okay. I just only want to get something off of my chest.
Who is Vigil?
Virgil Evans is an oc I had since childhood. At first he was roleplay character I use for, well, roleplay! Until when I stop roleplaying, I ended up making him his own character and eventually grew up with me throughout the years! He played a huge role throughout my life so expect to see much Virgil content in this blog.
HOWEVER!
To those who have gotten to this blog through my VN blog of Yan Virgil, Would You Stay, I’m not posting any Yan Virgil content in this blog. So please do not ask me any Yan Virgil or my VN related questions in my inbox. Those questions goes to my VN blog.
Yan Virgil in WYS is just an alternate version of my Og Virgil if things gone wrong in his world. Think of it as an alternative timeline.
Which fandom I’m currently in?
Yandere Visual Novels (more like a community than a fandom lol) : Such as See Thru Need A Friend? , Restart Heart, YOU and HIM, MINE VN, You Guardian Angel, My Ange, Camp WillowPeak, Drop In The Ocean, Favor, etc. ^v^ Im practically everywhere lmao (although I try my best to make fanart ;v; )
Degrees Of Lewdity : You can expect artwork of Kylar. I am a Kylar girlie lmao, I love that stinky icky lil skrunkly <3 My disgusting lil meow meow.
Obey Me! One Master to Rule Them All/ Obey Me! Nightbringer : Oof currently I’m burning out of the two games but I still lurks around in the fandom and sometimes draw fanart with my Mc :3, however! I have an AU about Lilith, if she were alive! So feel free to check out my side blog if you’re interested! Also I am a Barbatos simp! <3
Genshin Impact : The only time I draw fanart is Wanderer and a sketch of Nahida. And my ocs if they were Genshin playable characters lmao. But either way, RAAAAA I WANT TO PULL FOR NEUVILLETTE BUT I GOTTA WAIT A LITTLE MORE TILL I GET AT LEAST 50 PULLs PLEASE COME HIME NEVU—
Twisted Wonderland : I’m currently hyperfixated on the game for like since the English release came out lmao, I already have like two ocs! And two are basically based on the live action of Alice in Wonderland characters! Fior Rosehearts (based off of the White Queen) and Jasper Woods (based off of the Jabberwocky!) but eeee I’m so excited for the Glorious Masquerade event!
What Are My Boundaries?
Please don’t sexualize or be weird about my ocs who are minors. Such as Kota, Miski, Irvin, etc. Or even when I drew my adult ocs as their young version, do not be weird about it.
I do not mind playful flirting, virtual smooches, cuddles, hugs are okay with me! I don’t mind nicknames as well! Sexual flirting is ok as well, usually as jokes lol. But please keep in mind that I am also a human behind the screen, I have feelings and thoughts. I will feel uncomfortable if you go out of your way to my inbox to threaten me for sexual purposes, you will be blocked
I absolutely don’t mind if you shipped yourself or ocs with my ocs! As long it’s not problematic! I also don’t mind if my sona is also being shipped lol.
Feel free to ask me any questions! However do keep in mind that I might respond late due to me thinking carefully of what to answer or I get distracted lmao or if the question has gone too personal for me to answer, I’d rather not answer.
Once again if you came from my VN blog, do not ask me questions related about Yan Virgil. That’s for my WYS VN blog.
Please don’t ask me to draw for you unless I am taking art requests. I usually draw for the people I’m close to or my moots!
Sooo that’s pretty much it! I’ll add more if I remembered something! ^v^ I’ll have to add tags later but that requires me to organize my tags! So it will take awhile!

Pandora Hearts Volume 4 Review
And this volume is the start of the Cheshire Cat arc. It’s where one of Alice’s memories is and Break plays a part in this arc too. This arc introduces lots of world building and a very important character: Jack Vessalius. I’m just warning you: pay CLOSE attention to Jack because he is a VERY important character.
The fourteenth chapter is more of a fun one as Gilbert lost his hat and they have to win it back via arm wrestle. I don’t remember if Oscar was in the anime in that particular scene; I remember the arm wrestle part being there, however. Despite that, it was a nice comedic moment before the angst that is the Cheshire Cat arc. I also liked the reunion between Oz, Gil and Uncle Oscar. Oscar is the father Oz should’ve had. I do feel bad for Alice when she saw them hugging because she doesn’t remember if she had such warmth.
The Cheshire Cat arc is quite interesting. I actually think the Cheshire Cat is a bit of an underrated and forgotten character because of how early he showed up and then was gone. He’s very loyal to the Intention of the Abyss as he is protecting a memory that he doesn’t want Alice to retrieve. The fact that this arc actually starts so suddenly is really nice. I liked the surprise factor in which Break and Alice get caught up in Cheshire’s dimension and then Sharon had to be the one to guide Oz and Gil to where they are. Cheshire as a character is a bit of a parallel to Oz in a way. I’d like to say why but it’s major spoilers for those who haven’t read through the whole thing, so I won’t say it until we get to that part.
I do like seeing everyone in on the action here. Break shows off his capabilities despite being at a disadvantage at first. His chain is Mad Hatter. Sharon shows off her chain’s power too. I’m not sure if there was a horse in the original Alice in Wonderland story, but Equus is still cool nonetheless. Cheshire himself is pretty cool with being the first majorly dangerous foe. His dimensions are full of tricks and illusions and he’s bent on killing Alice to protect the Intention of the Abyss. Gilbert, although was a bit useless at first due to his phobia of cats, still did help out later on. The twist that Alice tore up her own memories got to me. Rereading this is pretty much masochism at this point. I am a confirmed masochist!
And this is the arc where Jack makes his debut. Oh, Jack. He’s very mysterious. He looks like an adult Oz but with a long braid. He’s here to help Alice, but cannot do much as he is only a fragment and needs Oz’s help. He’s the one trying to give Oz resolve to realize what Alice means to him.
In terms of world building, there are two opposing factions. One is Pandora, the organization Break is a part of and the other is the Baskervilles, the ones who crashed the coming of age ceremony and the protectors of a fifth door. I’d like to explain all of this but it does contain major spoilers for future events so my lips are sealed until then.
I just realized that rereading Pandora Hearts really does tie every future event together now that I think about it. I’ve been concealing everything important because some plot points shown here are revealed in the future. Man, this arc really was important. Why did I forget about it? My only gripe was that I didn’t make a “Ore no na wa JACK” joke when I posted the picture below on Twitter. He was the perfect character to use that quote on (It’s from Daily Lives of High School Boys). Anyways, if you have read this volume or know of the major spoilers, how did you feel about the story so far?

I've been thinking about a potential ultimate Disney crossover movie [including both obscure animated, and even obscure live action films], and a potential villain. I personally choose Julius The Cat, as he's already sadistic enough [Alice Gets Stung, Alice's Orphan, etc...], and given he was replaced by Oswald, I think he'd be EXTREMELY bitter about that. I'd picture Julius's design looking like a mix of the Mickey/Oswald-like design in some Alice Comedies title cards, but with the white paws and belly of the design from Alice Gets Stung. There'd be a twist: Julius can shapeshift. As for his villainous plot, he would steal various important magical items and use a machine to transfer their magic into himself so that he can destroy the Disney characters [especially Mickey and Oswald] once and for all. He'd be foiled somehow, I'm personally leaning into Taran jumping into the machine, causing it to overload, backfire on Julius, and save the day. And since it'd be a Disney movie, Taran would [hopefully] survive. [I'm heavily considering writing all of this as a fanfic.]
Very creative!

Ranking 50 Disney Dogs pt1
Ranking all (ish) the dogs from Disney according to a very scientific process averaging scores on Design (how much I like the character design) Breed Alignment (how much they look like the breed they’re going for.. or just how much like a dog), Personality (how I much I like them as a character) and if applicable , voice acting (how much I like the vocal performance. [Disney Animation theatrical releases only-- no Pixar, no straight to home video, no partially live action]
50. Hunting Dogs- Bambi It’s important to remember on this list that there are no bad dogs. Just because they’re at the bottom of the list doesn’t mean they’re bad! Except for these dogs. (that front one was definitely kicked in the head by an elk).
49. Town Dogs- The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad See? these dogs would never try to murder anyone.
48. Broomdog- Alice in Wonderland Unsettling! Just as Lewis Carroll intended!
47. Obby- Atlantis I googled “Disney Atlantis dog” (which is my MO for if I don’t remember if a movie has a dog) and this came up. He shouldn’t be here for a number of reasons-- he’s “not” a “dog”; he’s from a straight to dvd sequel; he’s an ‘”affront to God”-- but we’re ranking him anyway.
46. Dog Announcer- Chicken Little They managed to perfectly achieve the most generic dog I can think of (anthropomorphized)
45. Labrador- One Hundred and One Dalmatians They managed to perfectly achieve the most generic dog I can think of (realistic)
44. Rusty- Home on the Range Honestly he’s mainly this low because I don’t remember this movie except for a vague dislike.
43. Buster- Meet the Robinsons My positive feelings about his glasses are warring with my reaction against his eyebrows which I legitimately had to check to make sure someone hadn’t edited them on in this picture.
42. Otto- Robin Hood He has a nice face but it’s time we addressed the elephant in the room: most animals in this movie are fully dressed and Otto is wearing only an apron
41. Stella- The Princess and the Frog Is this the best picture I could find of her? No. But consider: it’s not the worst.
40. Tiger Talbot- The Sword in the Stone Mastiffs! How royal.
39. Cerberus- Hercules The ratio of teeth to mouth just feels off. But. Stylized! Fun!
38. Cerberus- Encanto in a tie between Cerberi, we love the gold accents.
37. Talyllyn- The Black Cauldron Fun twist: this dog’s evil and lives among the undead! Hurray! Dogs supporting necromancy!
36. Sultan- Beauty and the Beast He could take Talyllyn in a fight.
35. Bull- Lady and the Tramp The real Bull is a perfectly fine character and a perfectly fine character design but honestly just kinda boring so instead enjoy this melting plush version of him from an ebay listing.
34. Collie- One Hundred and One Dalmatians He has barely anything that qualifies as eyes (but a lot of eyelid) and I adore that. And the noble FLOOF.
33. Lucky- One Hundred and One Dalmatians a puppy!
32. Penny- One Hundred and One Dalmatians another puppy!
31. Bruno-Cinderella He has an abundance of leg. Look at that model pose.
30. Legend- Strange World Disregard the advertising, it’s just the best picture I could find since as of posting this, the movie is still only in theaters. I have not seen this movie but Legend is cute and only has three legs and I would very much like to cuddle him.
29. Rolly- One Hundred and One Dalmatians What would you do if I just ranked all 101 separately? Anyway, Rolly gains points over Lucky and Penny for having a personality I remember, but doesn’t rank higher because that personality is just “likes to eat”
28. Percy- Pocahontas Percy’s design has a lot of personality. Is a personality we like? ... less certain. But there’s a lot of character.
27. Patch- One Hundred and One Dalmatians There’s a reason he got his own movie: he has a design that’s distinct enough to be marketable star power!
26. Einstein- Oliver and Company Is he the most famous cartoon Great Dane? No. But would he beat Scooby Doo at the AKC National Dog Show? Without a doubt. Link to Part 2- the top 25!

RWBY V9 E6 thoughts and analysis
Jaune, my poor boy
here he is having had to just kill a friend
Then he has the WORST luck and stumbles onto this weird-ass tree
(Love the clock tree’s design btw)
And then he picks the “time lime” (as a friend called it) and it sends him back decades, we don’t even know how much
And since he fell last, no one knows he fell at all
Meaning he has to wait even longer
In better news, love that Jaune sees Crescent Rose and immediately goes to save it when he’s falling
He knows how important it is to Ruby
(Or was. We’ll get there.)
We now have explicit time shenaniganery in the Ever After, and I doubt it’s our last
Poor Jaune though my god
What must he have gone through
GROUP HUG AWWWW
Weiss “if I knew he’d be this hot I’d have stuck it out” Schnee
“What good is saving anybody if Salem just destroys the world anyway”
I love how RWBY does this. This is a line that, on the surface, makes perfect sense. But it’s not the logic that’s flawed—it’s the mindset behind it.
Every moment of life is valuable. Every single one. (Link at the end to an amazing video essay on this using the lens of Life Is Strange).
Think about it. Otherwise, the fact that we’re not immortal would make our lives instantly meaningless, and that’s just not true.
On top of that, you could save the world, but if everyone (or nearly everyone) in the world is dead, that’s not really rational either
Like Yang says, the idea that saving individual lives doesn’t actually matter in the grand scheme of things is the path that led Ironwood to become a villain.
VILLAGE? Jaune has a village?! Who might we meet there? I’m intrigued
Jaune….why are you giving me Ironwood vibes? 😳
CC genuinely seems to be glad to see Jaune
The tree is what causes ascension!? What a twist
CC, you say that can’t happen to them, but you were also awfully worried that team RWBY wouldn’t be who themselves anymore after visiting Herb
Clearly you thought SOMETHING could happen
But…you were also worried something could happen….and actively tried to prevent it….So what’s going on here?
Ah, so THATS who the boy in the back of Alyx’s photo in the intro is
“You never asked, silly”
Thing is, I think CC is being sincere. I don’t think they were hiding it, they genuinely just don’t answer questions that aren’t asked. It’s just not part of the social contract from their perspective
A Punderstorm?
Also just realized
Jaune must have been actively fighting against the Ever Afters attempts to resolve his issues the entire time
Probably because of his trust issues which have only gotten worse over time it seems
Also first impressions of the Ever After being what they were for him probably didn’t help
But wow yeah
He must have been actively resisting healing from his pain for a ridiculously long time
Poor Jaune
Ah poor Weiss, she and the Ever After do NOT get along
“Something bigger to work out” eh?
“How do we take the next step” BEES
What do the symbols on these signs mean? Boy and paw?
SUMMER IN RUBYS REFLECTION
Oh my, it’s literally visualized in front of them but Ruby does not even notice her own trauma (Summer) yet ruminates on the trauma of others and her inability to fix things for them (Weiss and Atlas)
I do not trust Jaune’s story here, at least not completely. I don’t think he’s lying, but it’s very much filtered through a biased lens of trauma and trust issues
“She wasn’t just a little petulant. She was selfish, and cruel.” She also looks about thirteen
“Like the whole world was make-believe and the rules didn’t apply to her” MAYBE SHE THOUGHT IT WAS MAKE BELIEVE 🤯
We don’t know how she got to the Ever After, but it’s quite possible she genuinely didn’t think of it as “real”, which meant she didn’t have to feel bad about any of her actions
Just like how Alice in Disney’s adaptation (the animated one) didn’t really have to contend with her collateral damage since it was all a dream
What changed at the Herbalist, Alyx? What did Herb say to you?
“The more I tried to get the story back on track the more she distrusted me”
Honestly? That one I think is a little valid. You were trying to force a child’s life to fit a narrative you believed it was supposed to fit. If, say, she found out something along those lines, yeah of course she wouldn’t trust you Jaune.
Honestly, the more interesting thing for me is that she apparently lost all trust in Lewis as well.
“I couldn’t even be the make-believe hero”
Poor Jaune. For all the growth he had, there was still that part of him that saw himself as ultimately just “the lovable idiot stuck in the tree while his friends risk their lives” and he hates himself for that
For not being the hero he thought he should be.
Wait…Holy shit
In the Ever After, he was kinda stuck in a tree
Though not in it’s branches this time, he was stuck in its grasp nonetheless
“The Rusted Knight drank the poison in her stead” this is such a strange line
That’s gotta be intentional. Why does he refer to himself in third person as “the rusted knight”? What does he mean “in her stead”?!
It does obviously seem that the poison wasn’t lethal. So that’s another intriguing thing about Alyx. Jaune states that she said she “wasn’t going to let anyone stop her from leaving. She’d do whatever it takes”
And yet, she seemingly made sure not to kill him
“The cats role in the ever after…I figured it out later, when the cat came back for me once Alyx left” Okay so, I’ll admit there’s at least a chance it was lethal and the Cat saved Jaune somehow
But I think it’s more likely it wasn’t lethal, because the flashback had Jaune basically just falling unconscious to the best of what we can see. Of course, that doesn’t mean the Cat didn’t help him recover a bit….who can say, all I’m saying is it’s interesting the cat came back for Jaune.
Then again, maybe CC just genuinely didn’t understand there might be conflict between them now
Yeah so, lots of people have pointed this out, but this is where it becomes clear how biased Jaune is. The Cat took Alyx and Lewis to the tree, one of them got home—the assumption is it was Alyx since she supposedly wrote the book (many have pointed out it’s quite possible Lewis is the one who made it back, which is why Alyx is presented much more sympathetically in the story) and this is where all of Jaune’s issues finished the story for him.
He began to believe that the Cat was never helping anyone, that they were only ever manipulating them in order to feed the tree and keep the cycle going, and this is a clear indication of how his trust issues are affecting his ability to see things clearly
BZZZZZZZZZZZ ITS BEEEEEEEEES TIIIIIME BABYYYYYY
“I’ll feel a lot better when we’re together on that platform”
Just LOVE that Blake has been taking the lead this whole volume
She is ready to love and be loved
She knows who she is, she knows what she wants
And she’s done letting the memory of Adam or the threat of Salem or anything else stand in her way
“You’ve got a really good brain”
“You have cat ears!”
Yang flirting with Blake in volume 1 when they first met CONFIRMED
Also confirmed is that Yang’s inability to flirt with Blake is tied directly to her struggle with vulnerability
She’s scared to say what she means when it matters
THE MUSIC
YANG’S ADORABLE LITTLE “Shall we dance” ANIMATION
THE TEARS IN HER EYES
“I think you’re an extraordinary person. You’re always the first to lighten a situation. You act bravely when you’re afraid. You do what you say.
Try to keep up!”
“I like that you’ve never been intimidated by me….even when you didn’t like me very much.”
“I was a little weary of people in general…”
“But you never gave up on them, even when they hurt you. You never give up. You know what matters to you.”
This whole exchange is so beautiful
And I love that despite Yang’s comedy often acting as a defense mechanism and Blake’s unwillingness to give up on people causing her to stay with Adam, both are presented as something worth loving because that’s not all they are
Yang makes Blake smile. Sometimes it’s a defense mechanism, sometimes it’s not, but Blake loves that Yang makes her smile
And Blake’s refusal to give up on people was taken advantage of by Adam, but it in and of itself is hardly a bad instinct—and Yang saw that firsthand when Blake dedicated herself to making sure her team (and Yang especially) knew she was never going to run away from them again
And of course, that’s only the tiniest piece of why they love each other.
“You do what you say”
After all Adam’s manipulation, gaslighting and abuse, to have someone who says what she means and actually acts like it must be incredible
“You know what you want”
Yang’s always been a bit adrift, defining herself by her relationship to others. In v1 she mainly saw herself as Ruby’s older sister and parental figure; and she also defined herself by being abandoned by Raven and wanting to find her. It’s not that she never had wants of her own, but she her wants often depended on how she viewed herself in relation to others.
Blake took no shit, she was passionate, she took a stand when it was something she believed in—and maybe even inspired Yang to do the same in volume 8?
“Let’s make this quicker. Any big truths we haven’t dropped on each other yet?”
As soon as Yang says that, she knows the truth she has to say and the storm reacts and
THE COLORS
THE PURPLE AND YELLOW
ITS SO PRETTY
Everything in this scene is SO PRETTY
“It’s like…a cliff. And if I do it I’m just going to….fall.”
“I think we’re already falling…”
RWBY has played around a LOT with the idea of “falling”
Cinder Fall/the fall maiden and falling into the abyss after her fight with Raven
The fall of beacon
The intro to volume 3
Ironwood’s fall into villainy
Falling into the ever after
So much more
Hell, initiation literally launched them into the air and they had to learn how to develop a landing strategy as they fell!!! Fuck this show is so well-written
But here, Blake takes the idea of “falling”—presented as something dangerous by Yang—and reframes it into something explicitly positive for the first time
The big deep breath Yang takes…Blake is literally telling her she already knows, but poor Yang is still afraid she might not be loved back
But Blake doesn’t even let her finish before making sure she knows it’s real
I learned that apparently Lillies are the official lesbian flower so that’s just a wonderful detail
I love that this kiss isn’t rough and passionate like they’ve been waiting to get their hands on each other
It’s gentle and calm
Tender, and compassionate
And while it’s not verbalized, you can actually see them checking for the others consent!!!!
So CC definitely has been explicitly hiding SOME stuff
Like that they didn’t know Alyx wrote a book about her adventure
When CC implies Jaune isn’t particularly stable, his reflection becomes his younger self. Intriguing.
CC wanted to go to remnant? But Alyx didn’t take them. Intriguing. Also “through the door to remnant”?
And yeah, ultimately, team RWBY did not care about CC. They were using them. Despite everything they did for our heroes, they only saw CC as a guide and an annoyance to endure so they could get home
Blake’s leg is doing the thing and it’s adorable
“Feels like I’ve been waiting forever for that” WE ALL HAVE JAUNE THOUGH NOT AS LONG AS YOU BUT SEMANTICS IT WAS SO WORTH IT
Crescent Rose. Jaune found it.
And Ruby is straight-up disassociating poor girl
When she crafted Crescent Rose, she crafted Ruby Rose as well. And she doesn’t want to be Ruby Rose, so she rejects Ruby Rose’s weapon.
And tomorrow, my guess is we’ll get a return to the Blacksmith, and maybe some Summer/Salem info too.
That video essay I mentioned on why every moment of life matters (the thumbnail is a bit clickbaity, promise the video is exceptional)
youtube
And a fantastic breakdown of the Bumbleby Confession scene:

Self-Indulgent TWST Geography
A long post of generalised geography headcanons for the world of TWST complete with continents for my own personal needs. The post divides locations by Continent.
Anyway why is there a homeland whose name is just the definition of a desert.
Continents (and ocean)
Errant - a western continent in Twisted Wonderland. Mzunguko - the second largest continent in Twisted Wonderland. Yalmae - the largest continent in Twisted Wonderland. Abíní - a continent West of Errant. Tridente Ocean - the largest ocean in Twisted Wonderland.
Errant
Rose Kingdom – a country in the western region of Errant. It isn’t a particularly large country, and traveling from it to its neighbouring countries is possible via buses or car. Crownsshire – a county in Rose Kingdom Crowns – the capital of Crownsshire. It is the town Riddle, Trey, and Che’nya live in.

Due to legends of the God of the Underworld, dogs are extremely popular on the Isle of Lamentation. Kapnós – capital of the Isle of Lamentations where the Shroud family resides.
Valley of Thorns – an isolated country small in population, largely consisting of a large mountain range. The closer one is to where its Queen resides, the colder it gets. It is said the Valley of Thorns can go weeks with nothing but moonlight. Geimhreadh - technically the name of the forest near the Valley of Thorns’ mountain range, where the Queen makes her home at its peak. Its name spread to the residential areas nearby.
Mzunguko
Afterglow Savannah – country in Mzunguko, ‘Afterglow’ acts as a loose translation of its name, Baadaye. It lies in eastern Mzunguko. Name Trivia
Continents (and ocean)
Errant - the continent of Errant has the homelands based off movies such as Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, Hercules, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, and Cinderella. The name stems from certain scenes in the movie marking a particular moment the protagonists feel out of place or stray off the expected course.
Alice in Wonderland: Alice’s misadventures begin when she makes the decision to follow a strange rabbit, straying off the course of simply reading and studying as her sister wished, where the curious and at worst annoying strange creatures and nature of Wonderland take a turn when she meets the Caterpillar, who questions Alice’s place and identity, and the stress of her situation and being unable to return home overwhelms her emotionally.
Snow White - the horrific moment Snow White, in a state of panic, rushes through a dark forest, where her fears envision hidden horrors within the trees and wildlife.
Hercules - after refusing to listen to Phil’s warnings about Megara being in cahoots with Hades, Hercules faces the devastating fact that Megara (reluctantly) deceived him, and loses his superhuman strength and faith in himself.
Sleeping Beauty - shortly after meeting a man she falls for, Aurora becomes devastated and resigned to her fate being betrothed to a complete stranger out of responsibility for her future and country.
Beauty and the Beast - Maurice’s ventures through a mysterious forest consequently leads him to the Beast’s castle in a desperate attempt to escape cold, only to be imprisoned by the Beast for intruding, ultimately putting the story into motion. After Belle makes a deal to swap places with her father and free him, Belle starts off terrified and in over her head despite saving her father’s life.
Cinderella - after the mice’s hard work creating a fitting ballgown for Cinderella to enjoy the ball, her stepsisters ruin the dress and Cinderella’s chances of leaving her oppressive family’s home. Her distress and tears lead her to meeting the Fairy Godmother.
Mzunguko - “circle” in Swahili, the language prominent in Lion King’s names, lyrics, and Rafiki’s dialogue, as well as the official language of Kenya, where much of the movie’s settings take inspiration and blatantly feature. Taken from the iconic “Circle of Life” song.
Tridente Ocean - “trident” in Italian. Yes, I hear you. The author is from Denmark. The statue is in Denmark. The movie references the statue in Denmark. However the surname Ashengrotto and Azul’s mother running a ristorante screams Italian and there’s the overall edgy mafia vibe the Octatrio has going on. I win this one.
Yalmae - “shine” in Arabic (يلمع). I wanted a name that illustrated the vibrant, lively diversity of the continent’s many countries, cultures, flora, and fauna. Something akin to a name that inspires a welcoming feeling.
Abíní - “morning” in Navajo. I wanted a name that inspires energy and enthusiasm, like a sunrise in summer.
Homelands
Rose Kingdom
Crownsshire - just the most painfully English name I could think of. “Crown” refers to, naturally, the crown of the Queen of Hearts. Also decided to make the Rose Kingdom its own, smaller, more limited country, instead of allowing its apparent monarchy to leech off 20+ different countries Crowns - do you have any idea how genuinely shocking it is we don’t actually have a town here named this.
Afterglow Savannah
Baadaye - “afterglow” in Swahili. The official and native name of the Afterglow Savannah. Interestingly, my findings found translations of it meaning “future” as well, which I consider fitting. Kiburi - “pride” in Swahili, can refer to a ‘pride of lions’ or confidence (often overconfidence). Mwamba - “rock” in Swahili, alluding to the Pride Rock that Mufasa’s pride resides in. Maisha - “life” in Swahili. Jioni - “evening” in Swahili. This refers to where anywhere the sun doesn’t reach, Simba shouldn’t wander, because it’s too dangerous. Originally, I wanted to go with “Kivuri”, which means “shadow”. However when I went to double check that ‘shadowland’ was a thing in Lion King, referring to where the Elephant Graveyard is, it’s actually a song from the Broadway musica called “Shadowland”, sung by Nala (Heather Headley). It both mourns the desolate state of the Pridelands under Scar’s tyranny, and narrates Nala’s resolve to leave and find a way to save her people and their land. The song is absolutely gorgeous, solemn, and powerful, and contributes more than any live-action CGI Disney movie could ever come up with. Its instrumental composition features the melody lei-motif prominent in the animated film (yes, That song. the heartbreaking one). It’s one of my favourites in Lion King alongside “He Lives in You” and “Not One of Us” because I like the ones where the chorus goes off. Please just listen to the Lion King Broadway soundtrack it makes me cry with how gorgeous and heartfelt it is. Anyway in their money-grubbing ways I hope Disney puts the Broadway on Disney+ so some brave soul takes one for the team to pirate it Manyoya - intended to mean “feather”, but to my understanding it also encompasses “fur”. Uzuri - “beauty” in Swahili. Nothing too deep here, just something pertaining to Rook.
Land of Hot Sand
Aldif’ - “warmth” in Arabic (الدفء). Meant to allude to a comforting warmth, kind of hinting that the popularisation of “Land of Hot Sand” more or less leaves the official name lost in translation. Misbah - “lamp/light” in Arabic (مصباح), naturally referencing the magical lamp sought after throughout the movie. Yatamanaa - “wish” in Arabic (يتمنى). Meant to be bit a bit of a cheeky play on words. The “wish” inside the “lamp”.
Land of Pyroxene
Waldburg - Wald is "forest” in German. References the forest that Snow White runs away into after being warned of the Evil Queen’s intentions. Argent - “silver” in French. References Cinderella’s silver dress. Verre - “glass” in French. References Cinderella’s glass slipper. Miroir - “mirror” in French. References both the Mirror of Snow White and the enchanted mirror Beast gives Belle. Enchantée - “enchanted” in French. Ties into the theme of enchantments, curses, and charms prominent in French fairy tales, and specifically makes me think of the Enchanted Rose from Beauty and the Beast. Scharlachrot - “scarlet” in German. References the red colour that hides the infamous green of the poison apple’s true nature.
Isle of Lamentation
Nísos Thrínos - Greek for the isle’s name. Kapnós - “smoke” in Greek. References Hades’ iconic appearance surrounded by black smoke.
Valley of Thorns
Geimhreadh - “winter” in Irish. References the winter court of Unseelie fae in Celtic folklore.
Port of Jubilee
Nanm - "soul” in Haiitan Creole. References the importance of determination and drive prominent in Princess and the Frog.
Sekrè - “secret” in Haitian Creole. References Dr Facilier’s ulterior motives.

Wild thoughts about Grim's origins
Warning: MASSIVE brainrot ahead
I made some posts about this complete crack theory before, but:
Maybe Grim is of Jabberwocky origin.
The Jabberwocky is a beast from a poem in Through the Looking Glass (sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland). Here is the first stanza of the poem:
"'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe."
@poisonepel pointed out that this was the song that Che'nya was humming when he popped up in front of our collared dummy squad. Yet, the Japanese dub has different lyrics to the English one (animated English Cheshire Cat sings the stanza above ^^^, Japanese Cheshire Cat sings about himself).
After rereading Through the Looking Glass: this is the VERY roughly 'translated' version of 'Twas Brillig with help from Humpty Dumpty who helped Alice understand:
"It was four o'clock, the lithe and slimy creatures ("tove" is a weird creature that Carroll made up that is like a badger+lizard+'corkscrew')
Did go round and round and make holes at the grass-plot around the sundial
The borogoves (bird creature thing) all looked sad
And the lost green pigs were bellowing and whistling."
---
forgive me, you had to read that with your own eyes
---
The Alice in Wonderland film from Disney mixed both Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass parts. Here is a list of parts that were not in the first book but were included in film:
Tweedle twins
Walrus and Carpenter
The flowers
fusing the Red Queen (Looking Glass) with the Queen of Hearts (Wonderland)
'Twas Brillig
The Cheshire Cat was actually supposed to have his own character song called "I'm Odd", but because Disney wanted to keep some aspects of the Jabberwocky poem, they dropped "I'm Odd" in favour for a small section that became"'Twas Brillig", and the creatures that Alice met in the forest where she started to cry.
---
Now how does this still tie to Grim?
The Jabberwocky poem describes the actual Jabberwocky with:
jaws that bite
claws that catch
eyes of flame
beware of it
There is also an accompanying illustration:
this here is the live-action version:
Now have the monstrosity we had to fight right at the beginning of the game that is probably Grim:
The similarities:
wings
the tendrils coming either from the face/head
scales
claws
sharp teeth
eyes of flame
it has to be killed at any rate
The Vorpal Sword is used to kill it by beheading.
The rest of these wild thoughts include who in the Twisted Wonderland cast might be able to defeat the prologue boss monster or whose help does Yuu need the most if Grim has Jabberwocky roots:
Ace and Deuce with all likelihood can get involved
All those who overblotted
Riddle - we need his Unique Magic if it can temporarily close the magic off for at least some seconds
Malleus - m a g i c
Lilia - we need the jiji to fight
Silver - the character whose magic pen is like a sword, whose coffin has a sword at the loading page, and can actually use a sword
Dire Crowley - look, if a portion of the school is destroyed, then as the Headmaster you have to do something about it whether you're 優しい or not, and if you still don't then b r u h
Mind all, the game's name is Twisted Wonderland, and not The Villain's World (Prologue: Welcome to the Villain's World) when it can also be called that. Maybe because it still holds the roots to the first Wonderland.
---
... I hope this makes some sense.
If it is all nonsense, I'm sorry you had to read that because I dropped all sense and reason to brainfart.
More thoughts will be welcome!

Alice in Borderland:A few words regarding characters
Discussing Hatter, Aguni, Niragi, Chishiya-just a few general thoughts/things I noticed Spoilers under the read more so... at your own risk, yea?
So I’ve finished watching Alice In Borderland (Season 1 of the live action from Netflix) and A. it’s very good B. I have a few thoughts
I like how almost every character has their “design quirks” weather it be shapes, or colors or a specific outfit. Part of it is due to the original designs in the manga, but I think they translate really well on screen. It’s especially apparent during parallels like with strict militant leader Aguni and his no nonsense tanktop shaved head and army green in contrast to the grander than life host turned leader hatter with his bright color and overflowing fabrics. Or Chouta “good boy business” formal wear vs those SICK Hawaiian shirts Karube flaunts. Or Niragi vs Chishiya-according to the wiki one is (in a way) a mirror figure of the other; it’s kind of “chaos vs cold calculation” business.
Btw Niragi.....
Usually I hate those “HUMAN NATURE IS VIOLENCE” character on that HOBBS vs RUSO discussion, but with Niragi it works. Partly because of his back story (was bullied and now he is “on the top of the food chains) so it makes sense he’ll believe that, but mostly Niragi is just a fun antagonist. Over the top unreedemable evil and violent-when done right, it’s very effective. Nothing like uncontrolable chaos in the midst of an already fucked-up situation. (More on that later)
Also, and perhaps most importantly, Niragi’s behavior fits thematically. The story is about human nature and weather people under dire situations succumb to violence and betrayal or rise above and work with one another (amongst other things). If Usagi and Arisu are the “team work ftw!!!! there is still hope and we must still survive!!!” side than the antagonists has to thematically represent the opposite of that. Niragi believes that humans are not meant to work together, that violent is human nature and might makes right. Aguni has lost hope and instead of trying to survive and move on had turned against those still living with violent vengeance. Hatter takes advantage of the need to group together and manipulates teamwork for his own selfish gain. Last Boss is obsessed with the thin line of life and death, flourishing in the “country” which ruins everyone else. The games and the game master are just the rope that ties all of this opposing forces and preforms a larger thematic antagonistic role.
BTW I almost didn’t catch that his name was Last Boss. Which is Ludacris, because it is THE BEST NAME. I like how he’s called “Last Boss” but he isn’t... the Last Boss... by a long shot... I can’t put it into words yet but I like this character and it resonates with me. The overall “uber-cool anime character” vibe with the life-death extremists view. Again, can’t articulate yet the point I want to make her, so some other time.
I love Chishiya for all the obvious reasons but he also cracks me up. Look at this dude. It’s very clear he tries to hide in plain sight and blend into the crowd at the Beach but like. Bro. You are dressed in white and light greys, pulling your mystery man shtick in a crowd of hundreds of yelling, cheering, colorfully clad beach members. IDK its so funny to me, what a jerk. I also like his tendency to make his little gadgets (the taser+the fireblower). this is why he has pockets guys, this is where he keeps all his bolts and wires for his next weaponry diy.
I will finish by saying that I really enjoyed the twist about Aguni. The entirety of ep 5 you are like “Oh he is DEFEINETALLY about to kill Hatter” and than Hatter dies and its so very obvious its not from the game. So obviously you think, yeah, Aguni killed him in this little scheme to get the throne. Hostile miletant takeover. BUT THEN you understand this was an accident, that Aguni didn’t want to kill Hatter and more importantly his job isn’t to lead Niragi, Last Boss and the rest of the militants-it’s about keeping them in check.
This is a great twist because it changes EVERYTHING about how we view the beach and gives us a new context. If you play back the scenes you realize it’s Niragi that pushes Aguni as the next leader (chances are Aguni didn’t want the job seeing how he LOATHED the beach) , for example. Cool stuff.

(Please call me “pearl anon”!) Same anon who has the OC twisted from the Enchantress! Briare Draconia is twisted from the cursed spindle and the three fairies’ gifts. She’s second in line for the throne if Mal doesn’t have kids. She is the first year gf of Silver and is known for being a very sweet but intelligent girl. Also very shy too, beautiful singing voice and can understand animals! ~pearl anon
Awawa, yes I remember! Yuki was your Enchantress I believe!
I'll combine all your asks in one and try to answer them all! ;u;
Oooh! So Briare is based on both the cursed spindle and the three fairies gifts? She must be really pretty and talented! And she's with Silver. I'm sure themst standing side by side would look beautiful ;u;!!! I also like the reference in her name! Briare is so pretty and fitting~!
Next few OCs: Soleil (first year gf of Epel, in pomefiorw) is a half-kitsune! She’s the younger half-sister of Aurelie (third year, in diasomnia with briare), who’s Malleus’ betrothed and the crown princess of the Seelie Kingdom. Rhoslyn is twisted from the healing flower! Heartslabyul first year, super soft-spoken but not a pushover, gf of Deuce! Reina is twisted from the enchanted rose and used to have hanahaki til Sebek saved her via kiss, also a dia first year ~pearl anon
Interesting! So is Soleil half fairy and half kitsune? And is Aurelie full fairy or is she half something else? :o But Crown Princess of the Seelie Kingdom! I see she's Malmal's complete opposite then?
So this Rhoslyn is based on the Rapunzel.. healing flower? ;u; If so, then I'm sure she heals Deuce of his injuries then ;u;!!
Reina being twisted from the rose... I wonder if she and Rhoslyn get along well then? Also the concept of ocs based on flowers having hanahaki is so big brained..! What a great idea!!
Ayo, part 3! Laurel is twisted from Belle, a huge bibliophile and the group’s self-proclaimed historian. She’s third year in pomefiore and Rook’s gf hehe. Hazuki is a first year, same dorm and Vil’s love interest- her inspiration came from autumn leaves. Then there’s Vil’s little sister (first year, pome student) Ella, she’s twisted from the glass coffin! ~pearl anon
Oooh! Actually that’s really cute..! Laurel and Rook together that is... Nerds. In a very cute way. And together. Both of them seeking out knowledge in different ways... Ironically, the one I have twisted from Belle... is, while an academic is also very athletic HAHAH.
Hazuki...! Is it the wind spirit/autumn leaves from Frozen II? If so, that’s a great idea!!
And Ella! Omg, twisted from the glass coffin! I have no idea how that works but it sounds really cool!
Part 4: Layla Rosehearts, Heartslabyul first year and the younger sister of Riddle. Mallow, twisted from Alice and is in the same year and dorm, as well as the girlfriend of Che’nya. I have Octavinelle OCs as well, but uh…i don’t want this to get too long. Unless you want to know about them? ~pearl anon
Layla hmm! I’m sure she’s a cutie knowing Riddle.
And aaa! I really love Che’nya! I’m an especially huge fan of the Cheshire Cat from the live action, he’s so cute... I’m sure he and Mallow are very cute together!
I don’t really mind hearing about your ocs if you want to tell me about them! I will say my DMs are always open if you want to talk more privately but if you’d prefer to send in asks then I don’t mind!
Your ocs are lovely Pearl anon~! You have such a big brain coming up with all of them! I can really feel that you love them! And that’s all that matters uwu

Now with the release of both Chapter 9 for the main fic and Irene’s story in Side B, It’s time I elaborate more of her and some. (Put under the cut due to being lengthy)
(Second image is made with Miwashiba’s Picrew)
Irene is Twisted from the 2010 Live Action of the White Queen, so she’s technically canon in a sense.
Part of the decision is that I don’t see a lot of people trying to adapt someone from the Live Action movies (I admit I didn’t watch some of them but heard that some Live Actions aren’t as good)
And I was pretty fond of the 2010 Alice in Wonderland Live Action that I wanted to make an OC based on one of the 2010 Live action incarnations of the characters. (It’s also directed by THE Tim Burton, so there’s that)
As I look into things when creating Irene, I noticed that in other non-Disney Alice in Wonderland adaptations, some media like to mix the Red Queen from the “Through the Looking Glass” with the Queen of Hearts, and it’s also what Tim Burton did in the 2010 Live action for the Red Queen (In interviews with him), which became the reason why I decided to make Mrs Rosehearts as someone twisted from the Red Queen.
Creation trivia aside, I want to say, Riddle shared one similarity with his aunt among some traits.
Both have a love for strawberry related desserts. For Riddle, it’s Strawberry Tart. For Irene, it’s Strawberry Shortcake.
Irene’s voice claim is Hayami Saori.
youtube
I was inspired with Hayami Saori’s voice acting for Kimetsu no Yaiba’s Kocho Shinobu and I feel it would fit as Irene’s voice claim.
And here’s the second OC to be introduced, Irene’s personal butler when she is still alive and now head butler of the Rosehearts household.
(First image Picrew here, second image Picrew here and third image picrew here!)
His name is Nicholas Silvestri, or as Irene likes to call him. Nick or Nicky.
A long childhood friend of Irene and her most loyal friend.
Nick was twisted from the White Rabbit in mind. But he isn’t twisted from the original White Rabbit in the animation. Nick was twisted from the 2010 Alice in Wonderland Live Action’s White Rabbit.
In the 2010 Live action, in spite of temporarily working for the Red Queen of Hearts, the 2010 White Rabbit’s true loyalty lies with Alice and the banished White Queen.
It’s why I made him Irene’s personal butler and childhood friend in one.
So, I want to say, even after it has been years since Irene died, Nick’s loyalty lies with Irene, and Irene alone.
The first image of Nick is more of how he looks when he got older, the other two fits how he looks when he was younger.
(On a not serious note, finding Picrews that had bunny ears options is hard)
As for a voice claim... I’m thinking Ono Daisuke when he’s older. More based on his voice acting for Granblue Fantasy’s Altair.
That’s all for now!
