why are people bending over backwards in your inbox tryna defend this dude's homophobic comments?? to me it sounds like he IS homophobic but recognizes that it's seen as impolite or wrong in some spaces and so he lies and pretends to be tolerant to avoid conflict. and he just thinks you're on the same page as him and so he doesn't filter anything out.

there are multiple instances where he seems very tolerant and even supportive of gay people ONLY around white people/americans. we go to a very white liberal school so there are a lot of white gays around us, and this guy is VERY popular and well-liked because he's an extrovert and talks to everyone, meaning he acts very tolerant about gay people. even today, he said "perioddd!" when another person was talking about gay people. so he's obviously not going to be rude around other people.

alone with me though, and his other muslim friends, he's very homophobic. he's still nice, but when it's around us, he makes it very clear he does not like gay people. he makes jokes about gay people and can't even utter the word "gay" tbh. he said it in urdu and then arabic and when i didn't understand him (auditory processing disorder moment), he typed down "rainbow" and showed it to me. it's very clear that he's faking it around the americans, but when he's alone with me he just becomes a bigot. he's still very nice and sweet, but since, again, we are in a very white liberal gay area, there are a lot of gay people and therefore a lot of opportunities to bring up the discussion, and that's why he talks about disliking queers so much.

it's unfortunate but i'm not going to make up excuses for him. i understand he's a full on bigot and i'm getting over him rn. it's sad but it's not like i should've gotten my hopes up anyway. it's not my responsibility to "fix" him and i'm too tired to put in that effort anyway. there are better people out there. i'll still be "friends" with him but i'm not gonna be as open with him anymore, since i don't want to put myself in danger. it's really unfortunate though.
