New Goth: Chapter 4, Part 3

Sleepover to break in Milton's new rooms then Harvestfest begins

The waiter comes along and places their order down. Just one problem, the dishes have been swapped around.

James: Excuse me I-

But the waiter has already left

Alexander: Guess I get the taco then

James: *pouts* Joey would probably say it was some kind of glitch

Alexander: *laughs* like a… between sessions glitch

James: There’s a lot of steam coming off this, I hope I won’t get burnt

Alexander: it’s probably decorative smoke, I don’t think they could serve something that would burn people. It would be a lawsuit waiting to happen

James: Well it tastes nice

Alexander: Now about Milton, you’re not really thinking about sleeping on the floor are you

James: If it’s what will help him feel comfortable in his new room, I will do it. He deserves to feel safe

Alexander: I just worry you’ll get sore

James: Weren’t you just saying how young I was

Alexander: Yes but that was-

James: We’re doing the sleepover. Then, with some luck, we can have our bedroom back to ourselves and the cats. Not that I’ve minded woohoo in other places but I do miss some stuff we can only do on the bed

Alexander: *laughs* I see your point, okay, sleepover it is

Alexander searches for the sleeping bags to carry up to Milton’s new rooms while James helps Milton move all of his clothes in, as well as his old toys from the Goth house. Finally we are ready to sleep but, better take a quick photo first! Can’t believe I didn’t have a proper one with these three.

5am...

Hamlet: *meows loudly* I really must protest at this locked door! I should be able to roam anywhere

Milton: *sleepily* Hamlet? Sorry buddy, your dads just don’t want you getting stuck in here

Hamlet: *meows* I haven’t seen them for hours though. HOURS

Milton: You really shouldn’t just wake sims up, especially on the weekends. It’s Harvestfest today, how am I supposed to stay awake

Hamlet seems undeterred from meowing so Milton decides to give him a pet and a play to satisfy him for a while.

At a more reasonable hour the sun rises and Harvestfest begins. First mission is to find the three gnomes (which I just have to say was near impossible in this mansion) and appease them for the day. Then while the humans don’t get special outfits, the cats become honorary tacos for the next while in celebration of the day.

Alexander: Your cat is knocking out the trash again

James: Our cat

Hamlet: *meows* Ew mum, that’s gross

Gertrude: *meows* You should try it, so much to explore

Hamlet: *meows* I’m fine here

Milton: Do you have to make such a mess Gertrude? I’ll probably have to clean it up

James: We have to do cleaning before our guests get here anyway

Alexander: I’m on cooking, think you can set the table Milton

Milton: Sure. Guess what? No nightmares last night

James: That's wonderful

The Chopra’s have arrived! Toddler Viola, child twins Savannah and Mercedes (your reminder that Savannah is in pink with hair clips, Mercedes is in blue with no hair clips), as well as their parents Rahul and Cassandra. First to get Viola in the high chair, then get some hugs out of the way. Milton and Savannah autonomously hugged despite having a low relationship which was adorable.

Alexander: You look… nice

Cassandra: *laughs* Yes Mr subtle, I am absolutely pregnant again

Alexander: Thought so. Congratulations to all of you

While Viola babbles incoherently to Milton he smiles and nods. Down the table the rest of the family is getting stuck into the ham Alexander cooked.

Alexander: Okay Viola, here’s your plate

Viola: Mama?

Cassandra: It’s your food, eat up green bean

Viola looks at the food questioningly but once she pats it she realises what it is and happily flings it about while eating the odd bit here and there.

Cassandra: Do you know how long the adoption process will take

James: I imagine since we’re not wanting an infant it shouldn’t be too long

Rahul: The sooner the better with kids

Mercedes: What is… a dog shone (adoption)?

Cassandra: You know how you and your sisters came from inside me, well your uncle Alexander and uncle James are going to get a kid that came from inside someone else

Milton: So... I’m getting another sibling or a cousin?

James: Not exactly. They would still be a niece or nephew technically

Alexander: But that doesn’t mean you can’t include them like a sibling or a cousin

Hamlet: *meows* Ham for Hamlet? Someone is too kind

Rahul: Your cat is trying to eat the food

James: Hamlet, no!

Alexander: I’ll just put the leftovers it in the fridge where he can't reach them, give me a second

Cassandra: Do you want a boy or girl?

Alexander: I’d settle for one who doesn’t judge me and James, gender doesn't matter

James: They won’t judge you love, don’t worry. I’ll have a proper talk with the social worker

Savannah: So… we’re going to get a cousin finally?

Rahul: Yes you are

Milton: You know I'm sitting right here Savannah

Savannah: *scoffs* You make a deal about being our uncle all the time *pulls face*

Milton: Oh yeah, good point

Mercedes: If you wanted to stop making a show about it, that would be great

Gertrude: *meows* Where did all the ham go

After Dirk inevitably learned very little about algebra and not so subltely sulked as he attended to his bruised ego, Cordie said her goobyes to him and joined her family in the foyer for their yearly tree trimming tradition.

At the beginning of every Winter season, the Fletchers always pulled out their Winterfest tree, listened to festive music, and decorated the tree together. It was a treasured bonding moment for them, and it was a tradition that had no plans of letting up anytime soon.

As the eldest, at 15, no one would've blamed Cordie for outgrowing the sentiment behind this kind of thing, but if anything her love of Winterfest had only grown since she was a little girl. Tree trimming, festive music, ornaments, and laughter? It gave her the warm and fuzzies.

Like daughter like father, Cam was also fond of the Winterfest season.

Harvestfest this year had been...hard. There was no way around that. He had done his fair share of healing through therapy, but the freshness of a first Harvestfest without Henry, it stung.

But he was through the worst of it now, and was just happy to have his family by his side. Like Cordie, Cam was beginning to feel like himself again, and no one was happier to see it than Andrea.

It was hard seeing him hurt. This festive season was just what he needed to light up again.

Ordinarily, Aiden would've celebrated Tree Trimming Day with the Saunders-Pikes, but with him still renting out the basement apartment, it made more sense for him to take up the tradition with the Fletchers.

After all, with his full time base duties drawing nearer, this could be the last time he'd have the opportunity to celebrate this tradition—or any tradition—with them for a very long time.

But it was the holidays. Best to drop that bomb at another, less volatile time.

And then there was Camille.

Who any other season of the year was typically up to some undercover mischief, but it would seem Winterfest had a calming warm effect on even her too.

Plus she knew better than to misbehave when presents were on the line.

Winterfest Headcanons

Back when they were "normal" human Sims, Caleb and Lilith celebrated Winterfest like whoa! Seriously, the Whos down in Whoville had nothing on the Vatores down in Willow Creek. The day after Harvestfest, they started to get ready for Winterfest. Edward put the lights up on every inch of the house, Artesia (and Caleb) baked a metric fuckton of cookies and sent cards to everyone and their dog. (Literally.) They posed for family photos to put on the cards. They even met Santa Claus, er, I mean...Clement Frost...er...Father Winter. (And Artesia maaaay have lowkey woohooed him that Winterfest Edward was stuck working.)

Lilith's gingerbread house fell apart because she went a little too ham on the roof frosting. It was supposed to be entered into a contest, and there was no time to fix it. Caleb ran upstairs and dug a Godzilla toy out of storage and placed it next to the collapsed gingerbread house. It won first prize.

After they were turned into vampires, they soon discovered that most of Forgotten Hollow...well, they just didn't do Winterfest. They put their all into Spooky Day, and they gave Talk Like a Pirate Day everything they had, but Winterfest was a no-go. Everything was so dark and gloomy all year round, but it was especially palpable at Winterfest. None of the houses in FH had any lights. Nobody kissed that special someone under the mistletoe. No wreaths decorated the door, unless you count the one at that Garliclauter Place made of garlic. Nobody baked gingerbread cookies or put together gingerbread houses. No stockings hung on the fireplaces, no garlands adorned staircases, and no lights were seen on any roof.

This was their first Winterfest since their parents' passing, their first Winterfest on their own, the first Winterfest since The Incident With Miss Hell, the first Winterfest since their cousin Lily became a werewolf and (Vlad had told them) wanted nothing more to do with them, and the first Winterfest since they turned into vampires. It was also the first Winterfest since they decided they didn't want to follow Vlad's ways.

The night before Winterfest was due to begin, Lilith threw the curtains open, as the snow fell outside. "It's Winterfest," she declared. "Yeah, so?" asked Caleb. He was sulking and nibbling on somewhat stale Winterfest sugar cookies he'd picked up from the store on impulse yesterday. He had been moody ever since The Incident, and well, all things considered, no one could blame him. "So," declared Lilith. "We need this. Let's get our butts in gear and Do Winterfest!" "Why should we?" asked Caleb. "Come on. Mom and Dad wouldn't want to see you sulking on Winterfest, Vampire or no!" replied Lilith. "Besides," she continued. "All those lights, the greenery, the music...I don't think Vlad will like it very much." (If you want Caleb to do something, all you have to do is play the "it will upset Vlad" card. It works every time.) Caleb's blue-grey eyes lit up, and he put down the shit-ass storebought cookie he didn't like much anyway. "Let's do it!"

They spent the night putting lights up all over their house. Garlands on every wall, the staircases, and the porch. The tree right in the window, where everyone could see it. The radio tuned to the Winterfest Music station, loud enough that it could be heard all the way down by the lake. Even their coffins got decked out for the occasion!

The next night, when it was officially Winterfest, Wolfsbane Manor was all lit up. (It even caused a power surge!) Everyone in town looked with wonder and awe at this unusual-for-Forgotten-Hollow sight. Not to be outdone, Vlad went down to his basement and dug out his own holiday decorations box. It was covered with dust and cobwebs, and contained ornaments they don't even make anymore. He set to work putting his own decorations up, and played "Fwingle Fobs" on his pipe organ.

Father Winter stopped by and left a huge pile of presents under the tree, at both houses. He was asked to decide which one he liked better. He decided he was just happy to see lights up at all in Forgotten Hollow, and soon FH joined all the other Sim neighborhoods in getting ready for Winterfest.

Each year, the Vatore-vs-Straud Winterfest Lights rivalry intensified.

When we got home from our wedding, Reuben and I were so surprised to see that my wonderful mother-in-love and sisters-in-love had decorated the whole rectory for us! They explained that they since they knew Reuben’s tastes so well and they knew I’d never really lived in a house like this before, they wanted to help us out by setting everything up just right for us. Isn’t that so nice of them??  My mother-in-love said I should share a house tour on the blog, and I’m so happy to do so! 

Isn’t the rectory so cute?? Don’t be worried about the candles and pumpkins--they’re decorations for Harvestfest, not Spookyfest, of course!!

The cute little entry way leads to a cute little living room! My mother-in-love has been teaching me to knit so that I can make all sorts of things for the family, the way she did for hers. I can’t wait!!

There’s a cute little laundry room nearby! My wonderful mother-in-love told me they made sure I’ll have everything I need while I’m doing lots of laundry in here! She’s so thoughtful!!

The kitchen and dining room!! Friends, I have to confess something: I actually worried about how a big family would be able to eat here without room for a big dining table! I’m so blessed to have my mother-in-love, who reminded me that the Watcher always takes care of all our worries!!

They also set up a room for Reuben to use as his study!! My mother-in-love pointed out that he’ll need his own space to get away from it all. I never would have thought of that--aren’t I so blessed that they took care of everything for me?? I’m also blessed that Reuben lets me use his computer for my blog!! Don’t worry, it has lots of security and protections so that I won’t accidentally be exposed to anything bad.

Here’s the bedroom!! My mother-in-love said she made that quilt when Reuben was just a baby, and that she prayed over it for him and his future spouse the whole time!! How sweet!! And look at that beautiful reproduction of the Watcher symbol that hangs in the church!! They said they put it there as a reminder that the Watcher is always looking over us. How nice!!

I was so surprised and so touched to see that they even have some things in the children’s rooms already! My wonderful mother-in-love explained that these are all the things she still had from when her children were young, and that she was saving them for Reuben’s family since he is her youngest. Isn’t that sweet??

Those drawings on the wall above the art table are by dear Prudence’s boys--they’re both so creative, and she said they’re excited by the idea of having more cousins to play with!! Isn’t that so cute??

Even the backyard is all ready for our future blessings!! I always knew I wanted a lot of children, since I didn’t have any siblings, and I’m so blessed that Reuben’s parents have allowed me to marry him and let me become part of this beautiful family. Praise the Watcher!

1: How old is your sim? Oh man, I’d say 23 cause (for my own sims game since everyone has different aging) I just assumed that once my sims turn into young adults their aging slows down, plus I have MCCC so Maya has 1000 days left of being a YA

2. When is your sim’s birthday? June 23 ♋️

3. What is your sim’s zodiac sign? Cancer 🦀

4. What is your sim’s ethnicity? Part Pakistani on her dad’s side (her dad’s bio mom and bio dad were from Rawalpindi and Islamabad respectively) and part Greek from her mom ☺️

5. Does your sim have any nicknames? Kaitlyn calls her Feldman

6. Do they have a job? If so what is it?  Maya is a freelance digital artist for now, cause tbh I love exploring any new career options that come with packs and and patches so I change up her career

30. What is your sim’s personal style? Girly, but casual and comfy mostly as well

As a kid, she wanted to be a mermaid* who was also a fashion designer 🧜‍♀️ , and as she got older she wanted to be involved in fashion, but without the mermaid part (kinda, cause if the Island pack has mermaids she is so becoming a mermaid, also I love mermaids as well so yup)

38. Does your sim have any siblings? Yup. Luke is her older brother, Angie and Abby are her baby sisters and they’re twins

39. Does your sim get along with their family? Heck yeah, she loves her family, even if she and Angie used to bicker over the The most random and dumb things as teens

40 What is your sims favorite hobby? Reading or painting, it’s hard for her to choose between the two

41. What does your sim look for in a romantic partner? Someone with humor, and someone who she can goof around with and talk with and be herself with, and she found that with Kaitlyn 🥰

42. What is a secret about your sim? Okay so for some reason my mind’s blanking right now, but I might come back to this

43. What is a wish your sim has? That she’d never have to lose her family members and loved ones

44. What is a flaw your sim has? Stubborn, Maya can be pretty stubborn on things 

45. How do others generally perceive your sim? A lot of sims think that Maya’s friendly and sweet, and she’s always helping people out 

46. Does your sim have a greatest achievement? If so what is it? For Maya, it’s her baby Luna, and the fact that she and Kaitlyn raised such an amazing daughter so far. Maya’s really proud of Luna

47. If they have one, what is your sim’s greatest regret? Maya regrets that once she turned 14 she got so involved with other stuff (like her writing and art clubs and hanging out with her friends) that she spent less and less time with her dad even when he wanted to spend time with her like they used to do with their father daughter fishing trips or lunch outings, and then he passed away when she was 16
