#he'd probably run and tell gregory - both out of pettiness but also we know that stephen himself was not treated kindly by his own father

one of the most morbidly funny parts in the book, was the scene where thomas and stephen were about to get into an argument, but they stopped midway to make fun of Margaret More begging Thomas to give Thomas More's head back. Like Stephen is like "did you give it back, why did you?" And Thomas made jokes about what Margaret was going to do with her own father's head. And it's like, never mind the fact that Thomas supposedly gets to control where people's heads go, but Thomas More was Thomas and Stephen's friend to a degree, and here they are joking about him being headless and his daughter doing strange things with his head.
LIKE they both ate at his house, together at a point and even left together T-T
#like they were having a good time#in that scene in the book - it made it seem like stephen was running after thomas in the street#and thomas didn't slow down#so he was out of breath when he caught him#but then they started just making fun of their headless friend#that was so fitting for them#these two would've ruled the country if they could have#horror movie time - the couple that enjoys torturing people together idk#like T-T that was your friend gentleman and now you're laughing#tbh i don't think stephen liked him#thomas was complicated in his emotions toward more#i know for sure if stephen heard the 'i'd rather gregory die than you more' comment#he'd probably run and tell gregory - both out of pettiness but also we know that stephen himself was not treated kindly by his own father#who pushed him to the side for being a bastard and stephen's death would've benefitted him#so let's be happy stephen didn't know about that
