You know, I see people going at Creation over the new announcement about use of the words "Winchester, Winchester Bros, or The Winchesters" being banned from the vendor market now.

Creation is an absolutely garbage company with garbage management and garbage rules, this one isn't on them. This is on WB, and frankly yes to some extent on Jensen and I support him on it.

It sucks for creatives, but realistically fanart etc itself was already a greyspace that were were given a lot of liberties in some fandom doesn't have. However, this is no longer a surname concept. This is an Intellectual Property. Chaos Machine owns The Winchesters, that's theirs.

But at the end of the day for all of the pissing and moaning, it's a huge power move on Ackles' part to be honest--not over artist's alley, I promise his eyes are higher than sticking it to the artists.

Creation's email clarified that "the studio" would be going through the market to check. This means either a WB representative for WB studios, or a Chaos Machine representative as the production house serving as the production studio.

What this MEANS is that everything about The Winchesters is basically legal property of Jensen's braincase. He controls when, where, and how that word gets used, and there's a lot of material in the markets that he doesn't necessarily support the use of that phrase. In fact, it's a method of purging the market of content that he doesn't want associated with a brand, period.

"Winchester Brothers" is even banned. That's right. Vinnie's bestie's psycho hub, for whom Becky was named after a real person, that entire platform can't even brand in a market if they tried to make a comeback.

And the thing is, they don't HAVE to do this, the only reason to do this is if there is a considerable amount of usage that would be in conflict with The Brand. So, you know, fandom uses of that. Just think about that a second. Jensen wants that purged.

I had SEEN it as a potential with the name and even mentioned it in Discord but I didn't think he'd actually fucking DO IT. Like yeah anyone that knows jensen at current knows he's fallen down the heller hole, but I didn't expect him to fucking nuke Sam and Dean name branded swag and its adjacent ship out of the universe.

Jensen doesn't own Supernatural, but CM owns The Winchesters, that's why their name is on the script. It's Based On WB property, but Created By CM members. They didn't sell it. They got a dev deal to make it. And they're saying get your nasty asses off their brand.
