Eurovision 2017: Pre-Show
10. Israel: Imri Ziv - “I Feel Alive” Semifinal 2 - #19
youtube
This doofus ♥ What a worthy member of the Nadav/Hovi/Imri ISRAELI DEITY TRINITY <3
Sooo remember when Greece selected “This is Love” and we all loved it because “uptempo dance track” and then Imri burst in out of nowhere and cancelled them? lol.
I ADOOOOOORE this song and it has nothing to do with Imri’s looks :). (well perhaps just a little. a tiny wee bit. i only want to be carried in those arms, *wistful sigh*). Of course part of that lies in it being uptempo FUN and you should know how much i lap that up by now. “I Feel Alive” is much more than that though. As the video implies, it’s actually a love song... about the Eurovision Song Contest.
BREAKING ME TO PIECES
I WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT EVERY PIECE BROKE FROM *YOU*
BREAKING ME TO PIECES
BECAUSE EVERY TIME YOU COME AROUND, I FEEL ALIVE
NOW I’M TRYING ;__; I’M TRYING... I FEEL ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE
SO DRAMATIC <3 SO META <3 SO TRUE TO CHARACTER <3 Literally every Imri Interview (Imrinteview? ;o) involves him bouncing around like a star-struck dork, similar to how he flails and flounces himself around in that totally spontaneously arranged foam party (the producers asking random attractive people from the street to join in, no doubt <3)
"I feel alive” is SO ISRAELI btw. No other country could have produced this. From the ethnic flute/bagpipes/fiddle/whichever, to the self-deprecating humour, to the OVERDRAMATISATION OF EVERYTHING (”BREAKING ME TO PIEEEEECES ;__;”), including Imri’s OTT facial expressions and hilariously awkward “dance moves”. Hey, if Imri wins, he wouldn’t be the only winner with a history of hilariawful dancing:

QUALIFICATION ODDS: Certain
Honestly, you’d have to be absolutely HORRIBLE to not advance from the pimp spot. Imri is on LAST... with an uptempo song. Even if he sucks (he might. Showings in Tel Aviv and Amsterdam aren’t too impressive), he’s still going to advance on the basis of well... being an attractive male with a dance song. Also, and I feel like this happens every year, do NOT underestimate Israel’s ability to inject dynamism in their entries. This is the nation which gave us Ofra Haza, Izhar Cohen (twice!), Avi Toledano, Duo Datz, Boaz, Nadav Guedj and Hovi Star; all of which sleekly choreographed, crisp and polished performances. They’ll soup up Imri’s shady vocals to the point they won’t have a significant impact on his. As for Imri’s likely finish, I feel like he’ll do as well as.. idk... an Eleftheria Eleftheriou, perhaps? Imri is charismatic enough to not get penalized by juries (a la Alex fucking Sparrow DOUCHE) if/when he sucks, but he gets lost in the electronic sea which will be the finale and I think the voter priorities will largely lie elsewhere...
Projected placement: 17th-26th
