a rant from an annoyed american!
||| ( feel free to ignore; i just need an outlet :D )
sooo the supreme court just went ahead and upheld the tiktok ban. the highest court in america, mind you, deemed the banning of an entertainment app constitutional.
whether it’s technically unconstitutional or not is debatable. there’s loopholes, specifics. and i am definitely not a lawyer.
worth noting: cases like united states v. skrmetti, stanley v. city of stanford, rivers v. lumpkin, perttu v. richards, garland v. vanderstok, city and county of san francisco v. epa are still pending or undecided. but i’m glad we were able to crack down on tiktok!
maybe for an outsiders perspective this may seem really silly–being upset over the ban. like, go touch some grass, right? but ultimately, i don’t think it boils down to just that.
our government is using the guise of national security to justify this ban. our government, the same one who implemented the patriots act. the act that is a violation of privacy and is generally just authoritarian in nature. but the surveillance is(was) apparently justified because of smith v. maryland. and duh, of course, national security!
the same government that gave zuckerberg a slap on the wrist for cambridge analytica / facebook’s interference with the 2016 election and stealing user data. (mind you, zuckerberg has quite a longgg rap sheet of apologizing for the misuse of user data). funnily enough, after the 2018 testimony, meta’s stock went up by 4.5%.
i also think it’s really important to remember that this isn’t normal for governments of first world countries. i think it’s important to remember that fascist governments censor.
our country continues to just tick more and more boxes for characteristics of fascism as time goes on. we have a social hierarchy here. the greater good of the nation takes precedence over individual interests or concerns. they are banning books, media. they are censoring and spreading certain narratives on lessons or classes in academia. they are actively chipping at the wall that separates church and state and seeing how far they can get away with it.
there is absolutely no sound reason for the bible to be an integral part of the curriculum in public schools. (ie. oklahoma’s mandate).
they intentionally weaved the ban into a $95 billion foreign aid and relief bill.
and then the biden administration has the gall to backtrack and say they’re looking for ways to keep tiktok available in the states! BIDEN IS THE ONE THAT SIGNED IT INTO LAW LAST YEAR.
and the cherry(s) on top of it all: we get an ominous farewell speech where the president of the united states warns the country of an oligarchy. the leader of a democratic nation instead referred it to it as an oligarchy. in his military farewell, the context in which he said remember your oath is concerning. an oath to defend against all foreign and domestic enemies. an oath to obey the chain of command, yes, but it’s not a vow of loyalty. an oath to support, defend and remain loyal to the constitution. an oath where the constitution takes precedence over an unlawful order, even if said order is given by someone who ranks high in command.
i can’t approach this with hindsight because i truly don’t know what the rest of this year will look like. maybe it all means nothing–fear mongering, overthinking and exaggerating. or, maybe it does.
i don’t know. i’m not a scholar, lawyer or politician. but i’m able to interpret what’s put in front of me, and what i see most of the time is upsetting.
anyway: dear non-american followers, keep us in the loop fr

"The Jump." From the Book of Sirach, "The Manner of the Fern" 6: 32-37.
We just discussed the role of parables in the making of a man, now we discuss proverbs, which are different:
Parables are 259, בהט , "alabaster" which create an outer self that is pure, gorgeous, easy on the eyes.
Proverbs are 1067, יסז, "will move." To move in Jewish means to "ascend" by gleaning and by deed. It has a polar opposite which means to act worse than a child when one should act like a professional.
Parables and proverbs are ways we Pslam to avoid acting ridiculous. The processes are akin to building a virtual Mishnah through the study of the Torah. The more we add to the wisdom granary in the mind, the more the Self will consume and contribute to the prosperity of the being:
32 If you are willing, my child, you can be disciplined, and if you apply yourself you will become clever. 33 If you love to listen you will accept discipline, and if you pay attention you will become wise. 34 Stand in the company of the elders. Who is wise? Attach yourself to such a one. 35 Be ready to listen to every godly discourse, and let no wise proverbs escape you. 36 If you see an intelligent person, rise early to visit him; let your foot wear out his doorstep. 37 Reflect on the statutes of the Lord, and meditate at all times on his commandments. It is he who will give insight to[f] your mind, and your desire for wisdom will be granted.
Parables are lessons, provers attempt to talk us into keeping commitments. Man must be conviced to abide by both by trickery, because the ego will not follow the rules because of the essence of its nature. Imagine a classroom with a session that lasted just long enough to list the rules named by the Torah. No one would go or listen. But a class that features elaborate stories and runes created by the angels, these people will pay attention to.
The Values in Gematria are:
v. 32-33: If you are willing you can be disciplined. The Number is 14862, ידחוב, the Handyman. Man must play a role in reducing the debt incurred by his iniquity. Every four years we play a game with reality and we always lose because no one in America wants to act like an adult. The passion we display for nonsense and nonesuch during this time!
"Every town is a border town," That sorry sow from Tennessee Marsha Blackburn once said, as if Al Qaeda was camping out down the street of every small town in America, cooking shawarma sandwiches on outdoor grills waiting to attack the innocent and unsuspecting!
But nothing bad happened did it? Then came Covid, then came the droughts, wilfdires, heat domes, and floods...and her President did not care, only tried to disssolve the world health organization, prevent proper epidemiological practices and even still gave Vladimir Putin Covid tests he was trying to withhold from his own citizens.
The Gematria say it is time to outstretch our hands, implement the Torah and that means a few of us need to be put under our headstones while the rest move on.
v. 34-35: Let no wise proverbs escape you. The Number is 11434, יאדגד ,"it will be emphasized". = "take responsibility, admit to the facts."
v. 36: If you see an intelligent person, visit him. The Number is 6224, ובבד "root out the fabrications from the fabric."
v. 37: Reflect on the statutes of the Lord. The Number is 10187, י'קףז, yakapaz, "jump." "the way feet often euphemize male genitalia and stand upright."
=
"To shackle but be free."
"The verb πηδαω (pedao) means to jump or leap. It may seem like an obvious derivation of the PIE root "ped-", meaning foot, we discuss above, but it probably branched off before the Greek language emerged. In the classics this verb was used to describe leaping or stumping of anything with feet, but also of things decidedly without them: fish out of a frying pan, a heart in one's chest, of the mind that changes, or a change that suddenly occurs.
Note the curious similarity with the verb πεδαω (pedao), to shackle, which derives from the noun πεδη (pede), shackle (see above). Neither πεδαω (pedao), to shackle, nor πηδαω (pedao), to leap."

The media needs to highlight who are these Christian nationalists hate groups and their back stories. They're repugnant. Case in point: American Principles Project. via /r/atheism
The media needs to highlight who are these Christian nationalists hate groups and their back stories. They're repugnant. Case in point: American Principles Project.
I was reading this article on CBSNews today about a family in North Carolina with a trans child, and their fear they may have to flee the state because of all the Christian nationalist hate there.
One group that is behind a lot of this hate is The American Principles Project.
Read this transcript of what the American Principles Project's leader, Terry Schilling, said with regards to families with trans kids:
Spencer (the interviewer) asked Terry Schilling, "The parents of some of these children would look at you and say, 'If you wanna protect kids, leave us alone.'"
"We are leaving your kids alone," Schilling said. "We are the ones that are protecting them from getting sex change procedures and puberty-blocking and cross-sex hormones –"
"And they would say, 'We know better than you do.'"
"And I would tell them, they don't," Schilling replied.
"Who are you to say that?"
"I am an American citizen that gets to vote, and organize people in politics," Schilling replied. "When we both disagree, then we go to the American people and make our cases to them, and we see who can pass the most laws. And right now, we're starting to win."
Essentially, he is saying might makes right, and that because he is part of a well-funded superPAC, he can terrorize trans kids and their families.
That is such a callous thing to say to anyone.
I don't know why the media continues to shy away from calling these fundie groups what they really are—Christofascists. They will do everything to avoid it.
When observing the American Principles Project, it was founded by a man named Robert P. George.
Robert P. George once said this with regards to the killing of abortion doctors:
"I believe in policies that reduce the urgent need some people feel to kill abortionists while, at the same time respecting the rights of conscience of my fellow citizens who believe that the killing of abortionists is sometimes a tragic necessity-not a good, but a lesser evil. In short, I am moderately pro-choice."
So, as one can see, this is not just some Christian group. This is a Christian nationalist terrorist group that apparently gets to brand as a 501(c)3, for some reason.
In 2020, American Principles Project (APP) led by Terry Schilling sent fake text messages in Pennsylvania claiming Joe Biden wanted to perform gender mutilation on 8 year-olds.They claimed they were "Democratic volunteers", but they lied.
https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2020/10/hate-group-targets-swing-state-voters-anti-trans-text-fake-democratic-volunteer/
So, not only are they Christian terrorists, they are also prevaricators. Something, something 9th commandment?
The American Principles Project was also behind the famously debunked Regnerus Study that falsely doctored stats and evidence to try and claim that straight parents raise healthier kids than LGBTQIA+ parents (total bullshit!)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Family_Structures_Study
The American Principles Project lies time and time again, and yet no one calls for them to be brought to account.
I have a lot more evidences in this thread, in which they attacked asexual marriages as somehow being a gateway to a "marriage inferno" due to no sex being involved. They basically made the case for an 11th commandment, to where everyone has to be forced into sex or else be damned to hellfire!
https://twitter.com/TygerSongbird/status/1553518964290080771
That is the American Principles Project in a nutshell—a group of Christian nationalists who violate the "Bearing false witness" commandment.
Why isn't the media saying more about this?

PM to announce extra £16.5bn in defence spending - biggest investment since Cold War
Boris Johnson will announce the biggest investment in defence since the Cold War, saying the UK has a chance to end an “era of retreat” with a new space command, cyber force and artificial intelligence agency..
The £16.5bn in extra money over four years is not enough to fill a funding gap in the military’s budget, but is far more than defence chiefs had thought they would receive given financial constraints on the Treasury because of coronavirus.
The prime minister will tell MPs the move is set to generate 10,000 jobs a year and demonstrate to allies like the US that the UK is a reliable partner.
“I have taken this decision in the teeth of the pandemic because the defence of the realm must come first,” he said in a statement ahead of the announcement.
“The international situation is more perilous and more intensely competitive than at any time since the Cold War and Britain must be true to our history and stand alongside our allies. To achieve this we need to upgrade our capabilities across the board.
“This is our chance to end the era of retreat, transform our armed forces, bolster our global influence, unite and level up our country, pioneer new technology and defend our people and way of life.”
Washington, Paris and other capitals have been waiting for weeks to learn the outcome of elongated discussions between the Ministry of Defence (MoD), the prime minister’s office and the Treasury about whether defence will receive a multi-year settlement even as other departments are only expected to be given a single-year budget.
Tobias Ellwood, a former defence and foreign office minister, said the news would not be lost on the incoming administration of US president-elect Joe Biden.

“This was a pivotal moment for us to decide where we want to go, who we want to be,” Mr Ellwood said.
However the new funding announcement comes without the full weight of what had been billed as a sweeping review of foreign, defence and security policy.
The Integrated Review was meant to set out the UK’s global priorities, an assessment of the security risks and how it is adapting to meet them.
Instead the full conclusions have been delayed until the New Year.
The prime minister is expected to confirm the creation of a National Cyber Force, which is a partnership between the military and the spy agency GCHQ.

In reality, it has existed for the last couple of years but this will be the first time it has officially been avowed.
The force has the ability to launch offensive cyber attacks as well as defend against hostile action in cyber space – seen as an increasingly critical domain of conflict between states.
Another new domain, along with the traditional ones of land, sea and air, is space.
Mr Johnson will unveil a new “Space Command”, which the government said would be “capable of launching our first rocket by 2022”.
In addition, a new Artificial Intelligence agency will be created to focus on the fast-moving advances in that area. It is thought this agency will be part of the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
Ben Wallace, the defence secretary, welcomed the spending decision.
“This is excellent news for defence, and provides us with the financial certainty we need to modernise, plan for the future and adapt to the threats we face,” he said.
Tough decisions will still need to be made to make the books balance despite the uplift.

Ageing equipment, including a number of tanks and other armoured vehicles, look set to be retired as well as some of the Royal Navy’s older frigates.
Much of the new money will still need to be absorbed by expensive, existing programmes, including the nuclear deterrent.
Analysts also expressed concern about whether there might be a raid on the overseas aid budget to help fund the splurge on defence.
The government is thought to be considering temporarily reducing a commitment to spend 0.7% of national income on overseas aid.
