so i was going through the entirety of prime defenders again and bizly had asked the boys what kind of music their characters would listen to, and condi (unless I'm misreading it) basically said that vyncent wouldn't really have an opinion on the music of prime, and that got me thinking 🤔
i imagine in the early days, the boys having the music talk, about what they like and shit as a means to try to get closer. and when vynce says that he doesn't listen to music??? dakota and william are baffled. astounded. blindsighted, even. william had at least assumed that vyncent would bring up the music of his home world, but he just,,, didnt.
"you really just have those headphones to cover your elf ears at school?" dakota asks.
"you mean my earmuffs?" vyncent responds. "i didn't know they did anything other than cover your ears."
so the other two make it their mission to find the music that vyncent likes. subtly playing songs that they like in their rooms, just loud enough to be heard through the paper thin walls of the base. when they're in the car together, they take note of which songs he smiles at and bobs his head to, and they add it to the playlist that they're trying to make for him. they send him links of specific ones, and if he responds positively to it, they add those too.
eventually, this culminates into dakota and william exploring new genres in an effort to find vyncent's vibe. william starts finding more singer-songwriter and stripped back music he likes, and dakota finds out that he really vibes with dubstep and DNB.
after weeks of research and carefully gauging vyncent's reactions, dakota and william end up presenting the playlist they specifically curated for him, but it seems to be more of a mix of all of their tastes than any of them anticipated.
"should we show him now?" dakota asks william as they finish with the final songs.
"yeah, now's as good a time as any," he responds, looking down at his phone. the words prime defenders chaos are lit up on the screen, followed by an extensive tracklist.
they both walk up to vyncent's door and william knocks. after two seconds with no reply, dakota knocks again, a little too loud and a little too fast. he's clearly excited.
vyncent opens up to see his two friends looking at him suspiciously and quirks up an eyebrow. "uh, hello? wha-"
"we have something for you!" dakota interjects, practically bouncing as he waves his arms in front of him.
"yeah, we made something for you," william smiles, and vyncent waves them in.
they all sit on vyncent's bed, and william reaches to put a pair of headphones over vyncent's ears. he reels back and puts a hand up.
"just trust me," william assures.
the headphones go on and william presses play, and a familiar intro fills vyncent's ears. he smiles broadly at his friends.
"I REALLY LIKED THIS ONE," he shouts, not realizing that the other two can hear him just fine. they just laugh as vyncent starts to tap his foot and move his hands in time with the song.
they all end up just starting a listening party, laying down across vyncent's bed, all with their earbuds in and listening to the same playlist. no words could be spoken to express how much vyncent loved the gesture. the silly grin that wouldn't leave his face was confirmation enough to dakota and william that he was in heaven right now. his eyes close as he wiggles to the rhythms, holding his hands up to cup around the speakers of his headphones.
dakota nudges william, who opens his eyes to look at him. the redhead simply raises his fist and bumps it with his friend.
"mission accomplished," dakota mouths to william. the ghost boy simply nods as another song starts.
"OHMYGOD I REMEMBER THIS ONE TOO," vynce shouts as he shoots up, looking over to his friends.
seeing their warm expressions, he tackles them both into the bed in a big group hug. "THANK YOU SO MUCH."
thank the gods it was muffled by the blankets and their earpieces, or dakota and william would go deaf.

Giant Sweet Cap’n Cakes Headcanon Masterpost!
(Fun fact, I thought most of these up while on one REALLY long hike.  ^^;  You can tell I fell for these three pretty hard.)
Music:
-I like the idea that, while the three all share a love of hip hop, glitch hop, electronic music in general, and a little lo-fi for chill times, they all have different tastes outside of those.  (Meaning if you pass them the aux cord, they WILL argue!)
-Sweet's actually the biggest audiophile of the group, with by far the most eclectic tastes; he will literally put together playlists that go from dubstep to heavy metal to classical to rap to vaporwave to even country.  The others don't really get it, but they're cool with whatever he puts on, and learn a lot of new music from him!
-He also owns an electric guitar, which he just plugs into himself to use as an amp and plays early in the morning to wake the others up if needed (he's the early riser and the other two are night owls...)
-Cap'n's definitely got a more narrow focus than the other two; he likes rap and also R&B, jazz, and even a little swing/electro swing.  He's also been caught more than once listening to cheesy romantic pop songs, claiming he's just into them for their potential madamoizel-attracting uses but really he's just a sappy romantic.
-He can also rap, very well in fact, and gets Sweet to beatbox while he freestyles.
-Heck, he's just got a good singing voice in general, helped by having a built-in autotune, and dominates at karaoke!
-K_K also has a really broad range, but stays more towards the electronic end of the spectrum -- melodic dubstep, synthpop, disco, trance, chiptune, DnB, even occasionally puts on straight-up ambient spa music to chill out to (the only genre the other two will NOT tolerate.)
-K_K has also, in the past, set up entire mini-raves just by themselves, complete with glowsticks and everything, while Cap'n and Sweet were out doing whatever.  They were...not pleased, when they got back, mostly because they weren't invited.  All three got to have one together eventually though.
-Physical media is king in their shop; if it's not on a CD, cassette tape, or a vinyl record (or an 8-track, though they have to dig out their old player for it), they will refuse to play it, and might even ask you to leave.  "MP3" is an extremely dirty word to them.
-(In fact, they don't get along too well with the MP3 player-headed robots elsewhere in the city.)
-They are indeed always listening to music on physical media as well -- K_K and Cap'n are their own CD players (though Cap'n's one of those models that's also got a built-in FM radio), while Sweet has a straight-up Walkman.
-(He's also the group's cassette champion, claiming his media of choice is superior to CDs because you can record music on BOTH sides of the tape!  The other two just don't have the heart to point out that each side only holds half as much music as a CD, and you don't even have to rewind those...)
-Jury's still out on Hit Clips.  Cap'n and Sweet think they're just toys, but K_K genuinely collects and appreciates them and treats them like actual music (it helps that they are only around four seconds long!)
-Believe it or not, the headphones are only decoration, all three actually just...listen to their music entirely within their own heads, though they can also switch to playing it externally on their speakers as well.  Perks of being robots!  Though, sometimes K_K has his internal volume up too high, and misses things that other people say because of it.
-Sweet also has an input port, and connects himself to his turntable to act as the speakers!  The other two are WAY too embarrassed to ask if they can use it as well.
-Sweet can play almost any instrument you throw at him, as long as it's not a woodwind (Surprisingly, he can do brass, since those work on vibration rather than air!).  He prefers his guitar or violin when he isn't spinning records on his turntable.  Where the other two just enjoy music, he's the actual trained musician.
Voice headcanons:
-Sweet:  Kind of deep, bass-y, lots of reverb, a slight tinny audio distortion to it like a low-quality recording that becomes much more pronounced when he gets upset or starts shouting.  And since he's a speaker, you can literally feel the vibrations he makes when he's speaking!
-Cap'n:  Scout from TF2.  I am sorry, but I absolutely cannot get that out of my head for him.  XD  However, he's actually putting that voice on as an "accent" of sorts, his real voice is actually super autotune-y like K_K's, and it comes out whenever he gets flustered, his pitch only getting higher and higher as it gets worse...
-K_K:  Pure autotune, he can just do whatever the hell he wants with his voice -- pitch, tone, whatever, and while he tends to keep it a little higher he can and does change it to fit his mood!  He often has a completely different voice every day, but the others are used to it.  He also just straight-up vocalizes sound effects (like, the kind that make you go "How did you just make that sound with your mouth?!") and can mimic other people perfectly (though the slight mechanical distortion does give it away).  There are absolutely no rules when it comes to K_K's voice.
-They harmonize perfectly whenever they sing together!
Sweet:
-I like to think Sweet's actually the brains of the group; like, not SMART, he just holds their one collective braincell most often.  He does any technical work when they're building stuff, like soldering circuits or the occasional programming, and even handles a lot of the actual business operations and pays the bills.  The other two also like to follow his lead when it comes to rebellion plans, even if he’s not the official leader.
-That said, though?  It's balanced out by him being rather hotheaded and having the shortest temper by a lot.  There are REASONS why he's not usually out selling bagels with the others -- he's unfortunately prone to some more "extreme" sales tactics, like hurling half their stock at random passersby until they finally agree to buy some.  On the plus side, he's always the first to step up to defend the gang from anything that dares to harm them, and is always on guard.
-He can also hold a heck of a grudge -- don't ever get on his bad side!  Cap'n and K_K are mostly immune to this though, if he gets upset with them he works through it by the end of the day.  It helps that they can all hug it out.
-He's a bit of a perfectionist, often working overtime to try and get everything they build exactly right.  He can get really frustrated when things don't work out the way he plans, or when he can't make sense of a problem, or when Cap'n and K_K are goofing off instead of doing their part, and needs to go blast some loud music and blow off steam.
-He does have a really tough time keeping his balance, since his head is a bit heavier than the rest of his body, but he takes tripping over his own feet constantly in stride.  The biggest problem he has is with dancing -- while he'll join in with the others on occasion, he can't match their more acrobatic moves and sticks more to actually PLAYING the music they're dancing to.
-He's also really, really unlucky, just in general.  He actually considers the other two his good luck charms, since they help him out whenever he trips or gets into a bad spot!
-He's the fashionista of the group, surprisingly.  It's difficult for him to find clothes that fit his body, so he tends to get a little creative with it and has a whole closet full of different stuff!  And since Cap'n is roughly the same size they'll occasionally swap jackets.
Cap’n:
-Cap'n actually has managed to score a handful of dates with girls in the past!  However, NONE of them went well, and only one actually made it to the second date (only to break up right in the middle of it), so he always ends up returning home heartbroken and in tears.  Sweet and K_K, by this point just ready for it whenever they hear that he's going out that night, always dry him off before he shorts himself out, take him to bed and cuddle with him (platonically, I don't see them as brothers but I also don't see them as having that conversation until Cap'n's ready, which he clearly is NOT), remind him that it doesn't hurt forever and he isn't unlovable and that he'll find someone eventually, etc.
-They have sat him down multiple times to try and gently suggest to Cap'n that he might just not be into women?  And that he’s actually turning them off by trying so hard?  To which he's always just like "No, of course not.  I'm straight.  Love the ladies.  Totally.  Oh no they didn't catch me checkin' out that one dude earlier did they?  Is that what this is about?!"
-(Basically, Cap'n is just a hopeless romantic in love with the idea of being in love, but is absolutely clueless as to how it works or what he actually wants, and his best buds are always there to catch him when he falls.  ;v; )
-The glasses are prescription -- he's SUPER nearsighted, a hardware glitch he refuses to fix.  Sometimes when he's working on something close up he'll take them off, panicking when he can't find them afterwards, only to have the others point out that they're just on his head.  He’s also got non-tinted glasses, but you will not catch him DEAD wearing those unless it’s an absolute emergency.
-This dude is SUPREMELY insecure with himself.  Like, his rather questionable fixation on romance aside, he basically runs off of others' validation, the "cool" persona he's spent much of his life building up being how he hides the fact that he isn't really sure who he is, or what he wants to do with his life, or what he's even good for -- the others have learned to check on him now and then whenever he hides away in the back of the shop, since he can slip into some pretty dark places when left alone to sulk.  It took a long time for him to open up even to them to share his feelings, and sometimes still has doubts about whether they or anyone else really care about him as more than just The Smooth One...
-He's the only one of the three to actually enjoy the occasional silence, especially when he's trying to think, or whenever he's upset.  So, his headphones also serve a dual purpose -- they're noise-cancelling!
-He's the video guy, carrying around a small camcorder and constantly trying to record the group's activities, to put together into music videos!  He also just likes to record himself doing stupid stunts for posterity, though K_K just takes these and makes (affectionate) blooper reels.
-Cap'n is not his real name, similar to K_K.  However, unlike K_K, he refuses to say what it is, just that it's embarrassing.
K_K:
-K_K has a bad habit of just completely zoning out when he gets into his music, getting completely lost in the groove and needing to be pulled back to reality.  It's not a bad thing during jam sessions, but at work, or in the middle of a battle...not so much.
-He kind of needs to have some kind of music going at all times -- silence drives him absolutely CRAZY!  Though, because he gets distracted by his own music, he then misses out on entire conversations, only tuning back in towards the end.  Sometimes the other two have to repeat or summarize what they just said for him.
-He knows sign language, and taught the others to use it.  They're able to communicate reasonably well no matter how loud their shop gets, or on days when K_K isn't able to form words properly (he's just shy, and even when he isn't he gets tongue-tied a LOT).
-He's easily the best dancer of the three, and uses his extendable body to get really creative with his moves!  He even knows a little ballroom, somehow, which he'll pull out sometimes to make the others laugh.
-(Seriously, K_K CANNOT stand to see Sweet or Cap'n not smiling.  He'll do anything to keep the group's spirits up, usually cracking jokes during a scrap project or doing little favors, and they appreciate all his efforts!)
-K_K has the WORST sleep cycle, ever.  If you let him, he will stay up all night working or partying, finally going to bed at 6AM, and will then sleep until 6PM if the others don't wake him up at some point.  If they know he was up really late they'll let him sleep in a little, but he's often pretty sleep-deprived and running solely on sugar and caffeine, which doesn't help his natural loopiness.
-He is a VERY physical guy.  Seriously, he will just scoop up and hold Sweet or Cap'n like a cat every five minutes; at first they were just like "Oh.  Okay.  We're hugging now I guess," but after a while they got more used to it and even anticipate when K_K is going to do it.  And he also initiates tons of snuggles and gives piggyback rides whenever one of his bandmates (usually Sweet) requests.
-K_K actually scrapbooks, collecting pictures and little mementos of places he and the others have gone and things they've done.  After the library fountain is sealed, he pulls them out to show everyone else from Cyber City and reminisce about home.
-It's very hard to make K_K angry, since he tends to stay super chill and brushes off almost everything.  But, on those very, very rare occasions when something does get under his metal outer casing, he'll go full-on silent treatment, not speaking to anyone for up to a week as he sulks and stomps around the junk shop, and even refuses to play any music!  And no amount of sweets or hugs or cheering up will bring him out of it, either; the other two have learned to just wait him out and let him have his space, letting him come to them when he's finally ready to talk about it.
Misc:
-Though all three love everything sweet, K_K's the only one who really goes overboard with it, making whole meals out of candy.  Sweet, ironically enough, actually prefers more salty/savory snacks, while the less is said about Cap'n's hot sauce addiction, the better.
-Okay, actually, I will say more about it.  Cap'n loves spicy food in general, and literally drinks tabasco sauce right from the bottle.  However, he's got a bad habit of daring himself to eat hotter and hotter stuff, ESPECIALLY if someone is watching, and can easily get in WAY over his head before begging for milk.
-They also all totally drink battery acid like Queen.
-Heck, being both Darkners and robots, they can really eat literally anything.  Normal food, milk, oil, batteries, gallons of pure sugar, toothpaste, moss, glitter (NEVER let K_K get hold of any though, he gets lost in the sauce), broken glass, etc, and of course their own deep-fried CDs.  Only thing they can't do is water, since, you know, robots.
-With a lot of the aesthetics of Cyber City being close to turn-of-the millennium and early 2000s (CDs and boomboxes, popup ads, wired mice, Queen theorized to be one of those see-through iMacs, EVERYTHING about Spamton), I like the idea that the boys DO NOT have smartphones, and if you handed them one they'd have no clue how to use it or what to do with it.  But they do have cell phones:  Sweet's got an old flip phone covered in stickers (courtesy of K_K), Cap'n splurged for one of those that slide open and with a camera (he set his background to a tiny, grainy photo of the three of them!), and K_K has one of those indestructible Nokia bricks, that Sweet got him after he kept breaking all his other ones.  They can all text, but that's about as high-tech as they get.
-Same with tablets or newer computers in general, they might share one tiny netbook at most.  Cap’n never remembers to log out of his Dark World dating profile, so the others will snoop or post embarrassing things to it.
-They're really, really durable, even without milk -- they're made of 90s plastic and electronics, so it takes a LOT to take one of them down!  Plus, they regularly repair each other back at the shop (it took a LONG time for them to gain enough trust to physically open and work on each other), so as long as at least one's left to drag the other two to safety they'll be just fine.
-However, if they get splashed with water, caught in the rain, or worse, drowned, they will short out, or shut down on the spot to prevent damage.  Once they completely dry out, though, they'll start right back up, no worse for wear.  When only one of them gets waterlogged the other two will break out the hair dryers to dry them out faster, or even pop them into the oven in a pan of rice like an iPod that got dropped in the toilet...
Finally, backstory?
-Cap'n and K_K met first -- maybe both as new recruits to another, much less savory gang of music equipment robots, and bonded as a result of being put upon by the more established members (Cap'n probably even had to defend K_K more than once when his inattentiveness got him into trouble!)  But, they both had enough one day, and decided to break off and form their own thing, making music and selling CD bagels to support themselves.
-Sweet, meanwhile, has the complete opposite background, coming from a rich and important family of musicians in Cyber City who regularly entertained Queen in her mansion (hence why he always used to get sweets from her!)  But, he was kind of the black sheep, preferring his own style of music, and decided to strike out on his own as a street musician instead.
-They met when Cap'n and K_K accidentally set up to sell bagels on Sweet's usual corner, and he battled them to reclaim his turf.  But, they were evenly-matched (even two-to-one; Sweet's definitely the strongest of the trio!), and impressed each other with both their fighting and musical skills, so Sweet decided to join their tiny group, and thus Sweet Cap'n Cakes was formed.
-After the whole situation with Queen is resolved, SCC turns their rebellion into an anti-DRM kind of thing?  Nobody can hold back the music, man!

I love Cas loving pop music but I also love the idea of Cas liking all kinds of music. Like, for most of his existence it's just a general kind of interest in humans and the way they express themselves and he thinks it's beautiful and he enjoys whatever music happens to be around him. But then (after Dean) it becomes more. A...search. He’s not entirely sure what he’s searching for until long after Dean gives him the tape, long after he tries to give it back but It’s a gift, you keep those.
But one day he understands: he’s looking for himself, for his feelings, reflected back to him in these pieces of music so lovingly created.
And that’s when Cas starts listening to all kinds of music in earnest, seeking it out on purpose instead of letting it come to him.
When Dean first notices Cas listening to music in his room in their downtime, it gives him pause because Cas has never done it before, really, but it’s not that weird. And he’s not surprised to hear Beyoncé filtering through the door given the aliases Cas chooses. And he’s not surprised by the classic rock, either because Cas seemed to like the Zeppelin tape and never complains about Dean’s choice of music when they’re driving. The classical stuff doesn’t surprise him either because Cas is still kinda nerdy and nerds like classical music, right?
The dubstep is, maybe, unusual but...Cas is unusual, so he just raises a brow at Cas’s laptop when he pushes open the door to ask if Cas wants to join them for lunch. Cas ignores the eyebrow and follows Dean to the kitchen.
And then it becomes a thing, all kinds of weird music Dean sometimes doesn’t even have a name for coming from Cas’s room. He asks Cas about it once or twice but Cas only responds with a noncommittal ‘I like music’ and it feels like something Dean can’t press, though he doesn’t know why.
Some of the music is cool, some of it drives Dean crazy (the polka phase is particularly difficult to get through) and then Cas seems to discover the repeat button and Dean nearly blows a gasket when he hears Faith by George Michael the thirtieth time in a row. Sam takes to wearing noise cancelling headphones around that time.
Cas, though, Cas loves it all. He starts with the pop music because it’s familiar, and then with Dean’s music for the same reason. Then he expands a little: country and western, hip-hop and disco and funk and soul and rock ‘n’ roll and doo-wop and jazz, bluegrass, heavy metal, punk, crooners and surf rock, showtunes and new wave.
He’s uncertain about novelty songs. They seem less sincere but he admires humanity’s propensity for whimsy.
Then he expands a little more: mariachi, bossa nova, ska and dancehall and reggae, skiffle, yé-yé, music hall, baroque, opera, vaudeville. He dives into folk music from all around the world, marvelling at the similarities and the differences.
Sometimes it’s frustrating, though, because the lyrics, the chords, the harmonies and melodies, will be almost but not quite right to express how he feels. Not in its entirety, the whole scope of his feelings. But he gets there, piece by piece. And then, when he thinks he’s found what he was looking for, he asks Sam how to put it all onto a tape.
And when he finally puts it together, to return the gift of music, the music that is him, to Dean, it's, well, it’s really fucking weird and random. Dean doesn't even understand all the songs because half of them aren’t English but he listens to the tape all the way through, anyway, because Cas made it for him. And then he listens to it again, and again, and as he lets it all wash over him, thinks about Cas listening to different music for weeks on end, he thinks about Cas sitting and choosing the songs and recording them onto the tape, the way Dean had done for him, and he gets the message loud and clear.
(He doesn’t even mind that Cas put Faith on it)

Bandsintown - All the Vibes, By Francisco
Basic Details: This stream was up on Twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/bandsintown with the title being “Bandsintown - All the Vibes”. It was live on May 21st, 2020. The top views in the time that I was studying it was 5,911 viewers. The stream was in English and, based on the time zones featured on the schedule, it was centered in the US and UK. Although the stream was a full-day event, the three dj’s that performed while I was studying it were Henry Fong, GG Magree, and Jessica Audiffred in that order. They each had their own unique styles: Fong played tropical house, GG Magree played house along with remixes of popular indie and emo rock tracks, and Jessica played dubstep and drum and bass.
Visuals: It seems like visuals were largely up to the djs that Bandsintown had playing. Fong had a green screen behind him playing promotional videos of him. GG Magree had a green screen as well, but it only showed images with jokes with the images periodically changing. Finally, Jessica had no green screen and her background was simply what appeared to be her living room. Some djs had a tab on the right side of the stream with a link to promote to the dj. The social media information of the djs as well as Bandsintown was featured in the description of the stream along with a schedule for the day. The chat was large and took up essentially the entire right side of the stream panel. With the BTTv extension, there were a lot of gif emotes with changing colors that really caught one’s eye. During the breaks between djs, an ad for Bandsintown played that was around 30 secs to a min long. Besides the green screens, other things the djs did often demanded attention such as the jokes Fong made and GG Magree pulling out her pet snake (which also triggered a strong response in the chat).
Music: Like I mentioned, the music for each of the artists was fairly different. Henry’s music was very tropical given the use of bongo percussion as well as the occasional reggae guitar sample. He paired this with strong drops that we’re impossible not to bob your head to. The stream reached its peak viewership during Henry’s set and the chat showed him a lot more love than it would later show GG Magree and Jessica. The music of GG Magree was also house but was also a lot more familiar to my ears as a result of the regular use of electric guitar samples and rock tracks. I would get excited when I heard songs I recognized and I can tell other people felt the same way judging by the chat’s response. Finally, the music of Jessica was less fun to bob your head too, but definitely much more of a joy to watch her create as a result of its very different sound and her very obvious use of the controls to alter the music; like when she would move the volume controls of the two tracks playing to create a fascinating dialogue between the two. While I was listening on my laptop, I believe a great portion of the other viewers were on their cell phones based on the emotes I saw in the chat which were largely emotes that I believe can only be produced on cell phones.
Tumblr media
Technology: Green screens were very prevalent as previously mentioned. Djs were all using Pioneer DJ boards. GG Magree and Henry also used mics. And all djs used headphones to listen to the music more clearly. As far as technical difficulties go, there were very few and very minor except for one major error during Henry’s set when he accidentally stepped on the power cord to his boards and cut off all the music. He played it off fairly well, laughed about it, and then quickly fixed it and got back to the music. Streamlabs was also used to add extra details to the stream such as the donation bar.
Social: During Henry’s stream the chat was very active and positive. People praised Henry and laughed when he made jokes or played meme songs. Henry actively asked the chat to participate by, for example, asking the chat to spam the feet emoji. However, once GG Magree and Jessica began to stream, it was impossible to ignore a new misogynistic atmosphere that included people saying things like “that looks like a funny kitchen”. When GG Magree began to stream, the views also dropped from 5k to about 3k and then finally to 1-2k during Jessica’s set. Although, I don’t believe this was based too much on sexism as about 20 mins or so passed into GG Magree’s set before the views began to drop. This was at 5pm EST which makes me guess people turned off the stream for some other event such as a particular tv show that was on at 5. GG Magree and Jessica also interacted much less with the chat when compared to Henry. The mods had to step in to delete misogynistic messages and ban those who sent them; although it took them a while to take action. Another interesting point of note is that when Jessica, who is from Mexico City, started her set, a ton of people started speaking spanish in the chat.
Liveness: One thing I learned about liveness during this stream is that it is immensely boosted by the inclusion of jokes, especially those that are a part of internet culture. For instance, when Henry played a song that is famous on Twitch as a joke, the chat went nuts and even I laughed out loud. This is a song that someone outside this culture would likely not even recognize which makes me wonder just how unique of a culture these livestreams are either creating or branching out of. And another thing I learned is that trolls can be a major obstacle for the liveness of the stream. I saw this in the sexist comments made by a lot of users during GG Bream’s and Jessica’s sets. These comments had a strong impact on the atmosphere of the stream, although it wasn’t all negative as a lot of users took it upon themselves to send extra support towards the dj’s in response to these comments. This manifested itself in a flurry of comments like “she is a queen <3”.

Hamilton DJ Drabble (Jeffmads)
I fell in love with the idea of a Hamilton DJ/music au, so I made a drabble for it. I may do more if people want it or I think of something else. I hope you like it (it typed this on my tablet, so please pardon the errors if any)
Word count: 1808 Warnings: Nothing
The nightclub was booming to the sick beats and remixes that were being pumped out by DJ Thunderson. That was Thomas Jefferson's alias when he was at the local downtown nightclubs. He took his love for music and took it to the next level during his Junior year in college. His third year of music classes required him to learn the basic functions of how to make music via electronics and computers. It came naturally him and before he knew it, he was putting his own spin on the music game and began playing at college parties. Everybody wanted this man recreating their current smash hits from the radio and that was fine by Thomas. Even though the basic lessons were over, he learned more on his own thanks to videos on YouTube and listening to the current kings and queens on the scenes of dubstep, EDM, and house music. After his other classes, he would head to his dorm, which he shared with James Madison. There he’d pull out his set up of a few laptops and turntables in their makeshift living room and begin his nightly session of figuring out which songs to turn up and crank out. On those nights, he’d have his headphones on so he wasn’t aware when his roommate came out to get something out the fridge. He also didn’t notice that James would occasional nod his head to the muffled music coming from his friend’s headphones. James didn’t mind Thomas making music as long as it wasn’t ear-shattering and he wore headphones so James could read and study in peace. Thomas would retire around 2 a.m. on those nights so he decided to work on days where his classes started in the afternoon.
Word had spread like wildfire as young adults close to club owners suggested that Thomas play. There were videos on various Instagram and Facebook profiles broadcasting the soon to be aspiring DJ. One club owner decided to give him a chance since he noticed Thomas gathered a rather large following that could equal a rise in customers. Thomas received the email during lunch one day which quickly prompted going to Alexander and rubbing it in his face that he will get to perform and get in the club for free the running to his dorm and bouncing off the walls as he told James. Alex was secretly jealous and James was proud and slightly excited, but he always remained supportive of his best friend.
Thomas, now under the name DJ Thunderson, with his own designed gear he got Lafayette and Herc to create, would find himself in front of large crowds of teens and young adults jumping and head-banging to the rhythm. People were dancing with and on each other, groups were singing along, neon everything was swimming over throughout the crowd, and Jell-O shots were being downed like there was no tomorrow. It felt like that every time Jefferson played. He felt like he was making it amongst the in-crowd and was getting his name out there. The mixture of music, shots, heat in the building and the women jumping to be by his side and in his bed made him feel like he was on top of the world. He even thought about dropping out of college to make this a full-time job, as he was being paid pretty well, but decided to stay to not go against his mother's wishes.
After the parties ended and everybody was getting their last drinks in, James would come pick Thomas up, if he was hammered enough. James would slip in the back and guide him to his car and put him in the back. He would then get some help to pack Jefferson’s stuff in the trunk and head back to the dorms. After pretty much rolling Thomas and his equipment in and dragging Thomas into his bed, the smaller man would take a shower to wash off any smells of liquor and neon paints that may have gotten on him. Soon James would be asleep in his bed and Thomas would be hanging on his bed, drooling and snoring heavily.
One day Thomas woke up after being brought home and tested out his equipment to make sure it was still working since he had a gig right after his last class. James heard a loud scream and a thud come from the living room and jumped up to see what happened. It was Thomas holding his laptop and speakers which he could see had a blue screen and made disheveling static noises. Thomas didn’t realize that somebody spilled a drink on his stuff as he was packing up. It devastated Thomas as he didn’t know what to do. James comforted his friend and gave a smile, warm-hearted smile to try to reassure everything will turn out okay. Thomas sighed and got ready for class leaving James to his own activities.
By the time Thomas got back to his room, his head was lower due to the thought of not being able to perform that night. He raised his head as he heard music playing lowly from the living room and followed the sounds. He saw his laptop screen in working condition, his speakers were clear, and his turntables were clean and sparkled. His eyes widen and a smile quickly grew on his faces, but then his eyebrows furrowed a bit. He wondered who fixed his stuff while he was away. He thought James did it but denied the idea as James didn’t seem like a tech person. He wanted to figure it out, but pushed the thought aside as he gathered his stuff in his book bag, left a note for James telling him he can just use his card to order something to eat, and left for the club.
James would see the note later on that night and smile, happy that Thomas could continue what he loved doing. He was glad he didn’t get asked any questions because he didn’t want anybody knowing that he actually was receiving a minor software and electronic engineering. James was always fascinated with computers since they didn’t require him to physically be around people and it didn't get him sick. While Thomas was gone, James decided to order some Greek takeout and hide away in his room. He knew Thomas wouldn’t be back until late since he knew the earlier he left, the later he’d stay out. James opened up his laptop on the bed with his Gyros, Kokoretsi, and Galaktoboureko, on a little table nearby. He opened up a music program and put his headphones on. James began taking classical music like Beethoven and Bach and added his own twist to it. Though his creations were not as harsh as Thomas’, his music would get your hips moving and start making you listen to more symphonies during study breaks. James had gotten so focused on his music and in his food, he didn’t realize how much time had passed. Thomas was able to get home via Lafayette, who attended the club that night.
After Thomas got inside and collapsed on the couch, he laid back and let out a long sigh. He let his body relax before hearing some soft music come from his friend's room. He thought James just left some music playing while he slept. He thought that until he heard movement in the room and saw the light come on. He heard James go into the bathroom in his room, which wasn’t normal to Thomas. Being who he was, he decided to investigate, crawled off the couch, and cracked open his roommate's door to see where the source was coming from. It was the laptop on the bed, hooked up to a mini speaker and a small electronic pad. Jefferson heard a familiar classic being remixed and his mouthed dropped. James walked out the bathroom and was flustered and surprised to find his best friend nodding to the beat of the music. James quickly stopped the music and closed the laptop. Thomas looked with confusion and walked completely into the room.
“James, why didn’t you tell me you made music?”, Thomas asked.
“It’s a small hobby, Thomas. I like computers and seeing you do it got me interested, but I don’t like people knowing because I never thought it would be any good.”, James responded rubbing the back of his head.
Thomas sat there for a moment to think. “So you fixed my stuff?”.
James simply nodded,”Yeah, I hated seeing you upset, and I know how much you love playing, so I fixed it so you could continue going out”.
Thomas smiled warmly at his friend, then walked over and gave him a tight hug. “Thank you, Jemmy. You’re a lifesaver and you really are my best friend. You shouldn’t compare what you do to me. Don’t hide it and enjoy it.”, Thomas said in James' ear.
James grew redder and wrapped his arms around Jefferson before pulling away.
“Now come on and share some of that Gyro, I wanna hear what you’ve been workin’ on”, Thomas excitedly said as he jumped on James’ bed, next to his stuff.
James shook his head and chuckled before sitting next to the bigger man. He opened his laptop and switched off his headphones then began to play a few pieces he put together. Jefferson listened while snacking on one of the untouched Gyros and rocked his body to the rhythm. James smiled to see his friend enjoy his work. They sat there for hours until James was asleep on Thomas’ shoulder and Thomas had his arms wrapped around James, resting his chin on his friends small, dark locks.
After hearing James and seeing what he could do, Thomas got James to help him set up his equipment and asked if he could do routine checks on everything. James would run all the devices and software to make sure it was all up to date. Thomas would bring James along to early club setups to help make sure thing everything was in order and did sound checks around the place. Some of the employees began calling Madison “AfterMadd” since he always followed after Jefferson when they saw him. Jefferson loved the name and used it to give credit when he got James to crack and allowed him to use some of the smaller man’s music. James didn’t mind the name because you wouldn’t make the connection quickly that it was James. He never stayed long at the club since he didn’t drink or like being around a lot of people, but he would Skype Jefferson on his phone to listen and let the club music fill the dorm throughout the night.
Being DJs and making music brought the best friends a lot closer than they had ever been.

Class 1-A and Music
What are everyone's favorite genres/bands?
Midoriya- Obviously loves movie soundtracks. They take up most of his study playlists and make him feel better when he doesn't feel good enough. If you asked him his second favorite genre, however, he'd e hard pressed. He relates a lot to the emotional lyrics of songs that bands like Set it Off or TOP release, but also admires the knowledge of music theory that comes with writing classical music.
Uraraka- Enjoys energetic soundtrack music, but also loves Imagine Dragons. When she and Kirishima work out together they listen to a lot of Warriors and Believers. When she and Bakugou spar they listen to the most dramatic, drum filled music they can find.
Iida Tenya- Listens to a lot of classical music, but has a secret. When he's alone, or only with his close friends, he knows more rap songs than you would think. He's naturaly indisposed towards speaking quickly, with clear pronounciation. Thus, Tensei began training his little brother in rap songs, which he got from Hizashi Yamada. However, it is Iida, so whenever there's a curse word he replaced it with a much nicer word.
Asui Tsuyu- Is a chillstep person. She also listens to a lot of nature sounds at night. She's very atuned to nature, so listening to rain sounds or waves is extra soothing for her.
Todoroki- Was never that into music, until Jirou of all people introduced him to Twenty One Pilots and Billie Eilish. His favorite song is Ride now.
Bakugou- He does not blast his music. Whenever people hear loud music they assume it's him. It not him. He actually uses music to train his hearing, and thus keeps it at 2 decibels when he doesn't use his earphones. He's gonna have just as good hearing as Shoji- and Jirou, f you. Listens to a lot of angry punk music, but QUIETLY.
Kirishima- As mentioned earlier, he loves Imagine Dragons, and has been trying to convert Uraraka and Bakugou to Classic Rock. However, he proudly know the lyrics to every single Taylor Swift song, courtesy of Hagakure and Mina.
Kaminari- He appreciates a good dubstep, mostly since it goes with his electric aesthetic. However, he and Mina share a love of American Pop and K-Pop which no one in 1-A can rival. He also finds 8-bit music super fun to listen to (and bug Bakugou with).
Sero- Has some of the most diverse music tastes. He appreciates chillstep, classic rock, and indie music a lot, but his parents listened a lot of classical guitar while he was growing up and it stuck with him. He listens to it a lot at night when he's trying to go to sleep. Mina has also force-taught him several K-Pop songs.
Mina- All pop. All the time. Every day. She's one of those fun people who's always jiving to SOMEthing, whether it be music in her headphones, a beat in her head, or her or someone else humming. She and Kaminari often get together and have mini dance parties, and she's been able to teach her fellow Bakusquad members a few of her favorite songs.
Jirou- ALSO doesn't blast her music. If she did, she'd blow her earjacks out! She has a love of Angry Punk Music as well, and recently Shinsou got her into a band called Set It Off- and she's been listening to Wolf in Sheep's Clothing on repeat for the last few days. Jirou actually really enjoys listening to things on repeat. It gives her a chance to really listen to the various instruments, percussion, the way the vocalists express themselves, etc.
Yaomomo- Grew up with classical music constantly in the background, so if you're listening to anything remotely classical, chances are Yaomomo has heard it. However, Jirou convinced her to try listening to Imagine Dragons (her easiest entry band to the more angsty music) and Yaomomo has been so! Invigorated! By 'Warriors' and 'Believer!' She's definitely going to listen to more.
Ojiro- Is right with Sero in classical guitar. He finds instrumental music and culturally traditional music interesting and oftentimes soothing. It's one of the things he tries to share with others, although of them all only Midoriya, Aoyama, and Hagakure have really sat down and listened attentively with him.
Hagakure- Isn't quite as obsessed with K-Pop as Mina, but has one or two favorite groups, namely Red Velvet and Astro. She's very open to most types of music though, and is willing to give anything a listen at least once.
Koda- He doesn't listen to very much real music, but when he does he listens to classical music(something he hadn't thought of until Momo suggested it). However, he lives for Ambience Mixer, and has several self made tracks of forests and river scenes to listen to while he studies or sleeps. He really likes having white noise in the background to focus.
Shoji- Prefers the sound of silence to music, honestly, but a year or two ago someone gave him a pan flute, and he practices it religiously. He finds its origins fascinating, and the sound calming (when played correctly). It's one of his few and favorite personal possessions.
Tokoyami- THIS ONE. HE IS THE ONE WHO BLASTS THE MUSIC. He is obsessed with Screamo and Punk Rock, let's be honest. He listens to every album the second it comes out. He also has carefully curated playlists on Spotify for every emotion a person could feel. 'Eternal Banquets of Darkness?' Check. 'Difficult Homework Rage Focus?' Check. 'Dark Shadow Got Out of Control Recovery?' Double check.
Sato- Listens to podcasts, not music. He has to have something in the background all the time, but prefers to listen to baking podcasts or video game playthroughs. If others are playing music nearby though, he doesn't mind listening. The only music he doesn't like is Screamo, Tokoyami.
Aoyama- He's up for anything- as long as it has those magical percussion chimes that sounds like magic (y'all feel me? I forget what they're called). The people who have the most luck with him are Izuku and Ojiro. He occasionally attempts to dance with Mina and Kaminari, but he usually throws the glitter too hard and gives himself a cramp.
Mineta- Doesn't listen to music as much as stupid reaction videos on YouTube. It's usually about the newest weeaboo pillows or posters, but he enjoys it enough to listen to it more than anything else.
Shinsou- Mostly listens to Angsty music, but at this point can't tell (and doesn't care) whether it comes from actual angst or aesthetic. He enjoys it, whatever. However, he's slowly grown to appreciate indie songs writers, and his favorite (positive) song is Chrysanthemum but Amber Rubarth.
Teacher Bonus Present Mic- The first thing people think of when they see Present Mic is Pop, right? Well that's only partially right. He has entire albums of rap songs memorized, so he has plenty of material to work with when chasing criminals. His personal favorite is Kindest Regards, by Witt Lowry.
Thanks for reading! Let me know if I forgot anybody! If you have a request, let me know and I'll see what I can do! 😁 (I dont do romance requests, fyi)
