ANOTHER THING I'M THINKING ABOUT is that constantine like...studies magic. hardcore studies, college-cramming studies, practice-once-a-day studies.

there's been a couple times where he'll make fun of people for fucking up a spell bc they've rushed their preparation or "it takes six months to learn that invocation", and it reminds me that he's really, honestly had to work to get as much knowledge as he has, and to be able to use it effectively without it blowing up in his face. which is such a jarring concept when set up against the new 52/jld constantine's casual flinging around spells and bursts of energy. he's out here doing that old-school occult shit, no wonder other magic users treat him like a fossil.

as far as ACTUAL hcs, let me think.

I know I'm not the only one who thinks it (check out @adore-nyx's gorgeous art btw bc I'm partially stealing the headcanon) but Verlaine just having a thing about stars is so canon to me. The man compares himself to a comet and has a pretty little star brooch, you cannot tell me he doesn't have some degree of fixation. In a college au, I like to think he'd major in astrophysics. The sky just... gets him better than people do.

I think he'd want to learn how to cook, in another life (maybe one he actually succeeded in getting to raise Chuuya), but in this one? He's a terrible cook. Never really got the chance to learn, and later didn't see the point. One of those eats-for-sustenance not for enjoyment sorts of people. He's kind of miserable and not making it better for himself.

I personally hc him as listening to a lot of core emo/screamo and a lot of dad rock. I think it would be good for him. I never posted it because it was an earlier one of my sketches and also sucks but I had him in a Heartwork by The Used album t-shirt. That entire album has Verlaine vibes. To me.

I also think he and Chuuya both don't fly well, as far as planes go. I just don't think he'd like having to ride a commercial plane. The lack of maneuverability, of control, the perceived "vulnerability" on all sides? A nightmare for him. I think its worse for Verlaine than it would be Chuuya. If he has to take transportation, he prefers to travel by ground.
