How do you feel when you look back at ‘MOVIE’ promotions ?

Jung Ilhoon : It was an happy promotion as always. Till now, we achieved most with this album. Be it with digital or physical sales.

Seo Eunkwang : Since our debut, whenever we did interviews we said that our spectrum is wide and that we will try a lot of things. We’ve done that for real. It’s because we did it, that we were able to grow slowly and proudly. While working on this album, I could feel how much the members loves music and thought that if we’re like this we can do it for a long long time. 

At what point did you feel that you love music ?

Seo Eunkwang : The title track (for this album) and everything else was a new attempt BTOB. Maybe it’s because we tried a trendy song, but since we digested it well personally although I’m BTOB I love BTOB. I’m looking forward our future.

Lee Minhyuk :  There is something our leader wanted to say “I have to register in an Oral Academy first”. Instead of feeling it at one point, I felt like my daily life was unified. As I always lived with music, if there is no music it’s be boring so I think it was at that moment. It’s the same when we promote and I think that in the future our color will be more clear in man areas. 

Yook Sungjae : For me, I simply thought “Ah! We can still grow” 

Seo Eunkwang : I felt something similar. 

What is the difference between the previous promotions and this one ?

Jung Ilhoon : A lot of shows got cancelled.

BTOB : But the funny thing is that whenever we promote a lot of shows got cancelled

Jung Ilhoon : Although some shows got cancelled, it’s not unfortunate since we can’t do anything. When it comes to differences I think it well be on our concepts. If we were able to show a dark and charismatic concept during ‘I’ll Be Your Man’ promotions, this time we were able to show our youthful and funky side. But I think we also showed manly and charismatic sides. When you play on the music, you can recognize BTOB’s color. We added also some retro elements to our stage costumes, I think it was cute. 

Whose ideas were the costumes ?

Jung Ilhoon : To be honest, we didn’t think of retro clothes at first but after talking with our stylist we thought it’d dit well with our choreography. We showed various concepts. It is a neat feeling.

Seo Eunkwang : The first week was a retro concept and the second week movies parody.

Lee Minhyuk : The costumes were my idea. 

What are you talking about now ? 

Lee Minhyuk : We talked a lot about our stage outfits. Since our music video came out well, we wanted to save our performances too. That’s how we decided to try various concept. 

Today’s (the interview was done on March 23rd) outfits concept are from movies ?

Jung Ilhoon : Today is uniform. We wanted to show our Idol side. We’ve already shown our skills so we wanted to give movies feel.

Lee Minhyuk : It seemed like we forgot that we are also Idols. 

The ending for this promotion seems a little weak ?

Jung Ilhoon : I don’t think it’s weak. It’s a part of our concept. Changsub hyung tried to do something different, Eunkwang hyung tried to be cute... it was funny. 

Yook Sungjae : The ending allow someone to be in the spotlight, to the one who want to be the main character on that day.

Jung Ilhoon : When we told the camera director today’s ending wil be different, he asked “Who is it today?”. I wanted to say that every time there is a new charm.

So how did you decide on the ending ?

Jung Ilgoon : We decided by playing rock, paper, scissors. The member who win do the ending.

Yook Sungjae : At first we played rock, paper, scissors but there were members who didn’t do it (the ending) so we took turns. 

’Movie’ is Jung Ilhoon’s self-composed song. How was it selected ?

Jung Ilhoon : First, it was chosen when we were collecting songs but however it reflected members opinions. 

Does it mean the members pushed for it ?

Jung Ilhoon : They did it but truthfully the final decision was made by the CEO...

Seo Eunkwang : We always hold concept meeting. At first , it wan’t ‘Movie’ concept but as we kept talking about it, it ended up being it.

Jung Ilhoon :  You can know if a song is good by listening to its guide but we could seen it after it was made. In the process of making it, it felt like the concept, outfits and choreography were all matching. It is a well-completed song in the process of being made. 

Jung Ilhoon works as a composer. Is there a song that you think it was a pity to give it to someone else ?

Jung Ilhoon : I didn’t feel it unfortunate... but actually there is a song I made who’s gonna been released soon.  I can’t tell you who is gonna sing ut but I made that song thinking of BTOB. Rather than it’s unfortunate, I thought it’d be good if we can sing it as well. It will be released soon. It’s a male song. 

From the members point of view, is there anything wrong/pitiful about giving Jung Ilhoon song to someone else ?

Jung Ilhoon : But among the songs I gave to others none did well...haha.  But now I’ll do my best, it’s okay if I’m sick I’m going to draw a picture like this.

-‘Movie’ achieved #1 reversely on charts. How do you feel ?

Jung Ilhoon :  But honestly the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism...haha. After the system changed, we released our song at 6PM for the first time. I’ll be lying if I say we weren’t worried.

Lee Minhyuk :  It was the first time we released a song at 6PM and there is much traffic at that time.  However, during the past 2 years we entered within the top 3 but this time we entered #10, we and agency officials were really perplex. 

Jung Ilhoon : We are really thankful to see that we’re still ranking high.

Seo Eunkwang : It was okay because it wasn’t only us. We’ve found something where we can go up. Now, we will aim for getting #1 on 6PM releases.

Yook Sungjae : Rather than the entry rank, the fact that we’ve been #1 is more important.

Changsub is actually plyaying in “Boys Over Flowers The Musical ”.

Lee Changsub : (pointing the screen showing Jimin during rehearsal)  Tsukusa is coming out right now. 

I feel good to have entered a new world, the world of musical. It’s fun to know that I’m able to do things like this. ‘Boys Over Flowers’ is my first work and helped me a lot. I’ve learnt a lot and I got a lot of interest in musicals because of this. In the future, I will show you many sides of me through musicals. Come to see my musical. The last performance is on March 30th. There is only 4 performances left.  You said you saw that you could go up during this promotion, but in what way? Do you have a new goal after this promotion, please tell us about it.

Yook Sungjae :  My intuition is usually really great. When I feel like ‘this is it”, it really ends up like this. If I believe in it while doing it, it comes out like that. 

Didn’t you say during your concert that you didn’t know it will be successful ?

Jung Ilhoon : He’s a liar. Sungjae has  mythomania. 

Yook Sungjae : It was an Idol ment.

Lee Changsub :  It’s still amazing for me. We finished our promotion but our song is still on the charts, it’s weird. 

Jung Ilhoon : There is a thing the CEO told that I remember. Before releasing our album, he kept saying it will do well no matter what. 

Yook Sungjae : What surprised us the most is the event fans prepared for our 5th Anniversary since debut. Our debut sing entered the charts. It even reached #20 at dawn. It’s a song that has never been on the charts. So we felt how much the numbers of fans have increased and are united.  

Seo Eunkwang : ��If it’s charting right now, it means that not only our fans listen to it but that the public interest also increased. Now we are drawing a bigger picture for the next promotions. 

In fact, if your promotion time was longer, you can expect better results.

Yook Sungjae : It’s like this because nowadays the TV medias change so rapidly. 

Im Hyunsik : We also have other schedules. 

Jung Ilhoon :  After this, we have Japan promotions. It’s a situation where we can’t do anything. But truthfully there were a lot of shows which got cancelled..haha. It’s a bit pityful we could have showed what we have during these 3 weeks.  

Im Hyunsik : We have been promoting in a country where there is no president... I didn’t know we were undergoing this. Hahaha. 

You are also getting good results in Japan.

Jung Ilhoon : It is really effective to have activities with various contents and events in Japan.  Seo Eunkwang : It seems like we’ve appealed more people by speaking Japanese ourselves during promotions instead of having an interpreter.  

Do all the members speak Japanese ?

Seo Eunkwang : No that’s not it.

What is it?

Seo Eunkwang : It’s Sungjae, Minhyuk and Ilhoon’s speciality. Jung Ilhoon : Sungjae became rather fluent in Japanese. But as time passes, it feels like he pretends to be. The other members are slowly getting better. 

Isn’t it because you have the good points ?

Jung Ilhoon : I still do not know what kind of talent is good. It is like reading a script. 

A sunbae group who worked under the same agency as you suddenly debuted as Rookies (Highlight). 

Lee Minhyuk : Is it okay to take a proof shot together ? Don’t we have to get Cube’s permission ?

Yook Sungjae : They always seemed like online friends to me. It’s a little awkward when I meet hyungs in real life but when I put on my headset it feels like we are familiar. 

Jung Ilhoon : Hyungs are just hyungs. 

Seo Eunkwang : We are supporting them.

Lee Minhyuk : During our 1st promotion week, I had a broadcast meeting and after the recording I coincidentally met the hyungs (Highlight). They looked at me and asked : “What are you ? Did you come as a spy ?”. We met in the elevator  and they said “We are now ennemies”. That’s how much we are close and support them. Yook Sungjae : Please write down who said “We are now ennemies”. We didn’t say anything.  Lee Minhyuk : The last thing is important “We always support each other”. 

BTOB : Please write someone said “ennemies” and the rest of us were surprised and looked into each other eyes anxiously.  Lee Minhyuk : The one who said “we are ennemies” is Doojoon hyung.  Jung Ilhoon : Hyungs are really just hyungs. Our personalities also match. They are like neighborhood brothers. 

Yook Sungjae : I always play a lot of games with Doojoon hyung. 

So does Highlight call you Sunbae now ? 

Jung Ilhoon : We can joke like this. But afterall hyungs are the sunbaes. Actually, they don’t seels like sunbaes but real hyungs.   Yook Sungjae : Hyungs are like online friends. We looks really close when we play games on computer but when we see in real life we are like “Ah yeah”. Haha.

Lastly say something to your fans. 

Yook Sungjae : Since we showed you another spectrum during ‘Movie’ promotions I’m satisfied. We still have a lot of thing to show you.Each member has a lot of charms. Although I already showed you a lot, BTOB is a team like onion.  In the future we will grow more and there is something I always to our fans : You can look forward to us this year.

Jung Ilhoon : These days I keep having auspicious dreams. 

Yook Sungjae : I want to tell that this year there will be plenty of moments to meet BTOB.

Bumping into XX - BTOB

Characters: appa Eunkwang, papa Minhyuk

Summary: A kids store is where they bump into Leo

Minhyuk was out and about with Ilhoon and Sungjae, spending time with them while the others were busy. He didn’t really have anything planned, so he just decided to take them to the closest shopping area and have them walk about there. They’re now in hour two of their shopping day and Minhyuk’s hand was holding several bags as well as holding the kids hands.

“Papa, can we go over there…”Ilhoon asked as he pointed towards the general direction of some plush toys.

“Oh, you want one of those toys??” Minhyuk asked, already leading the way.

“Uh huh,” Ilhoon nodded eagerly. “I want to get one for Subbie hyung…he wanted one last time but he couldn’t win the machine…right JaeJae??” Ilhoon explained as he looked at Sungjae who was also nodding his head.

“Awww…you guys are so cute!” They walked into the store and the kids ran forwards, trying to find the right one they wanted. Minhyuk trailed behind; taking in all the different kinds he could see.  Sungjae ran in front of Ilhoon but a voice caught his attention. He slowed down and tried to listen in and figure out where he had heard that familiar mumbling. He turned the corner and saw a little kid with his back turned towards him, but he could recognize his friend from anywhere.

“Hyukkie!!” he shouted out to his friend. Said kid stood straight and turned around in a flash.

“JaeJae??” and before the kid could process that his friend was right in front of him, he was being swallowed in the biggest hug ever. He giggled at his friend and smiled.

“JaeJae…! I missed you!”

“I miss you too Hyukkie!” the kids exchanged happy greetings as Ilhoon came around the corner.

“Hyung!” he called out when he noticed Ken.

Minhyuk -who had been happily browsing at his own pace- looked up to see that his kids had disappeared and something told him that the noisy chaos he could hear was them, so he decided to make his way over. But before he reached halfway, someone stopped him.

“Minhyuk-ah…” he turned around to see who it was, only for his eyes to widened at the sight of Leo.

“Leo! What are you doing here?!”

“Tiring the kids out hopefully,” he joked with a small smile. “You’re not here by yourself are you?”

“Do you really think I’d enter this type of store by myself?? I’m not that childish…I have kids,” Minhyuk answered playfully but Leo gave him a look of disbelief.

“I don’t know…this sort of store suits you,” and Minhyuk had to pick up the closest plush he could reach and smack Leo with it. The latter faked an injury and they would’ve played along some more if it wasn’t for the kids running up to them with gleeful shouts and various plush toys in their hands.

“Appa! I want this one…hyung said I could have this one!” Hyuk said to him, hands up to show him the big star toy he was holding.

“Papa, I think Subbie would love this one…oh and this one…” Sungjae told Minhyuk as he showed him an alien toy that was in his hands and a big dinosaur one that Ilhoon was holding. Minhyuk looked to Leo and they both shared the same expression.

“Kids huh…” they both laughed and the kids watched on in confusion.

“You should come visit sometime when you’re not busy, I’m sure the kids would love it,” Minhyuk invited them over and Leo smiled.

“Sure, we’d love to visit. I’m sure Hakyeon has missed you guys too…” Leo replied with a warm expression.

“Appa, can we please get this one…!” Hyuk pleaded to get his attention. Leo turned to look at his kids and gave a small nod.

“We better get going; the kids are getting restless already…” Leo told Minhyuk and he couldn’t help but agree.

“Of course…we’ll see you soon,” he bided goodbye and turned to his own kids.

“Say goodbye to uncle Leo…” he told them, and both Ilhoon and Sungjae said goodbye, hugging his legs too. Leo ruffled their hair and noted how they have grown.

“Bye Hyukkie!! Don’t forget us ok??” Sungjae said as he hugged Ken then Hyuk goodbye.

“Don’t forget us too!” Ken replied with a big smile and the parents wondered what went on in their kids minds these days. Minhyuk watched Leo and his kids walk away before he turned back to Ilhoon and Sungjae who were looking at him expectantly.

“You can only pick one for Subbie ok? You’ll have to put the other one back…” he told them with a bit of authority. It took a while of mumbling between the two brothers, but they finally decided on the alien toy and were soon on their way home.

“Subbie hyung!!” they both called out when they entered the house and Minhyuk had to remind them of inside voices. Changsub, who had been watching tv with Eunkwang and Peniel looked up when both of them stood in front of him.

“Subbie hyung! We got you something!” Ilhoon told him and Sungjae nodded his head in excitement.

“What’d you get me??” Changsub was curious. Sungjae then pulled his hands from behind him and showed the others the alien toy they got from the store.

“You got this for me??”

“’’member…you wanted one from the machine…but machine was being a meany and didn’t give you one,” Ilhoon reminded him but instead of reaching for the toy, Changsub reached out for his brothers instead and pulled them into a big hug.
