the one thing (afaik) that isn't canon compliant in my series is that i put dirk cresswell in the same year as the marauders when slughorn actually says he was a year below. i did this by accident, and by the time i realised it he was too central to the story/other characters. so i just fixed it by having a running gag where slughorn keeps forgetting what year cresswell's in.

#bc he never paid any attention to poor dirk until he realised that he could speak near perfect gobbledegook #which at least i think that's in character for slughorn #cresswell #cresswell was one of those characters who accidentally became way bigger than i thought because i liked him. and i still do!#he was originally just a random guy on the gryffindor team. and then he stepped in to protect mary and also stepped into my head #conceivably it could be altered to make him a year younger but i'd have to change too many things i cba #the darkest days
