just for you i rolled deep into my sga files and found my firefighter!rodney meets retired air force john meet cute kinda feat. dr. ronon dex, teyla as the sheriff and the sheppards trying Emotional Connection so heres the beginning of it. its like 80% done at this point tbh but rodney is not impressed with john int his part
“Sir, sir, can you hear me?”
John blinked, trying to get his eyes to focus even as he groaned, his chest feeling heavier by the second. He finally managed to focus on a blurry figure above him, face hidden behind a mask and back lit with flickering flames.
“Am I dead?” he rasped.
“Not for lack of trying,” the man replied, disappearing from John’s view.
There was a noise, and then some of the pressure was gone from his chest and he inhaled deeply, which turned out to be a mistake as he started coughing, the smoke in the air burning his lungs. Hands grabbed his shoulders and a second later he was being hauled up. John stumbled, but the hands held him firm, and he was half dragged, half walked back towards the entrance.
The bar was burning, flames licking up the sides and the alcohol along the shelf only adding to the fire. John knew it was a loss, but he tried to pull away from the firefighter. “No!” he said, managing to get his shoulder away and he stumbled back towards the bar.
Hands grabbed him and hauled him back before he could take another few steps. “What the fuck are you doing?” the firefighter snapped in his ears, lifting him as if he weighed nothing.
John struggled. “I need to get behind the bar!”
“Near the flammable alcohol? You do have a death wish,” the man yelled, his voice so loud it drowned out the crackling of the fire for a second.
“No! I need to get behind the bar! She’s there!” John said, wrenching his shoulder away, thinking of the devastation in Dave’s face if he couldn’t get Mary out in enough time. They had only just met, Dave fresh off a divorce and Mary a breath of fresh air. John didn’t believe in love at first sight, but he was pretty sure the sparks from Dave and Mary’s meeting a few months back had made him a believer.
“There’s no one else here,” the firefighter snapped, picking John up and throwing him over his shoulder.
John struggled, throwing an elbow only to cry out as it connected with the oxygen tank on the man’s back and he cried out, his arm tingling and it was enough for the firefighter to take him away from the bar. But John hadn’t survived a plane crash that ended his career in the Air Force and not have learned how to get away while injured. He twisted his hips, the firefighter stumbling to the side and letting go of him.
