“With nine scripts, over eight-hundred pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots, and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding one,” the brothers said.
they really are emulating Stephen King, writing increasingly WIDE novels
“There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes,” the Duffers intoned. “But first we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down.”
yeah nah look, I think the creators of shows like this often overestimate the degree to which fans love the world the story takes place in as opposed to the specific set of characters they've grown attached to.
(the huge exception to this rule is The Mandalorian, where the writers/studio seem to be way more keen on bringing back characters from the original media than many of the fans are, because it was so cool to have a story set in that world with fresh and endearing characters that wasn't heavily dependent on links to the dang Skywalkers, but Star Wars is its own weird beast in this regard)
