maybe i'm being too much of a lucrezia wife right now but personally i've always viewed cesare's strategic and calculated nature as flaws because after lucrezia told him (twice) that her husband had been repeatedly maritally raping her, he mindbogglingly stood next to him like:
instead of impulsively acting on his promise the moment he encountered him. he then let him leave rome without gutting him, only fulfilling his promise to her in s2 after there were "reasons" (giovanni betraying their allegiance by not lending them the sforza army and his marriage with lucrezia being annulled) as if her being abused alone wasn't enough reason to act without giving a fuck about what his father would think. this is exactly the same reason he didn't gut the king of naples in a heartbeat for inflicting violence against lucrezia, but instead allowed her to be publicly maritally raped: he was maintaining his father's approval, staying in his good graces, and standing by him in the hope that one day he could extract the papal army from him.
#keep in mind that françois' version of cesare is entirely different from neil jordan's version that we see on screen#françois insists that lucrezia comes first for cesare but honestly everything cesare does seems to have an ulterior motive behind it#and like it just says sooo much about cesare with those delayed justices and priorities#he views juan as his arch enemy by allowing even the sforzas to butcher the papal army if it meant juan's death to gain control of the army#it makes everything he self-proclaims about his devotion to family and their honor just a façade#cesare is legit the most dangerous and megalomaniac character on the show and i'll stand by this#no matter how many times the narrative of the show tried to tweak it#cesare borgia#the borgias#lucrezia borgia#tb text post
