So I need to watch the movies to completely flesh this idea out but I imagine in my Ash is a mew au that like, Ash struggles to fully trust his companions to be strong enough to deal with some situations? Like he 100% trusts in their morals and stuff but if he sees a massive threat such as a serious evil team or rampaging legendaries, there’s a high chance he’ll put them in a psychic bubble and go over to deal with the problem, completely ignoring their protests.

This problem isn’t really noticeable throughout his journeys because like Ash doesn’t really register the Team Rocket trio as a threat but in the movies where legendaries take central focus, his friends have to convince him that he shouldn’t put them in some psychic bubble to keep them safe while he runs off to deal with the legendaries. It’s Brock who’s the first to really convince him that they are nowhere near as fragile as Ash thinks they are and that he should let them help instead of putting them in a bubble the whole time for their protection.
