Very interesting to be removed from privileged white Americans in a private prestigious university, then work in a less prestigious public university, and gain the perspective of the privilege I do possess, even if it isn't as blatantly obvious compared to those I went to college with
#going to different places really helps give you perspective#I pointed out the privileges my dad and I have relative to others even though our family is by no means “rich”#but to have the level of security we have and to not be impoverished like others bc our parents had the means to invest in us#is a major privilege in and of itself. It really all boils down to the connections you make which begins before you're born#yesterday while we were waiting at the fish market my dad advised me to keep connections to past advisors#he said he has 1 reference he used wheen applying for jobs and he landed the position at his current company bc he worked with someone there#I appreciate the advice my parents share to me after they gained experience and learned from their mistakes#this might get personal
