you always do that when you’re nervous. / @jokethur
Tumblr media
DO I ? the question doesn't fall from lips instead what stirs is the small inkling of a smile , HIS BROTHER does indeed know him well.
their interactions had been brief , CAREFULLY thought out - they truly couldn't be within one another's presence it was too dangerous but ? he had missed his brother , the loneliness had gotten quite isolating - worries that if he allows that to settle that he'll settle within his own thoughts and ebb away , like the settling of sea foam on shoreline.
he envies his brother's openness , EMBRACING who he is as he walked throughout life with the knowledge that there was nothing to hide. bruce has seriously thought about dropping the mask letting all of gotham know ... though that remains nothing more than a dream.
there's the low hum of ENGINE as they leave gotham and make their way to an unknown location. the knowledge that his brother's time wasn't as free as his own , a father of a newborn and two other children , bruce's nieces and nephew.
' yeah ... i guess that's something that'll never change ' what one can see now is the appearance of cowl makeup nothing more - BATMOBILE safe , he had ensured that much. his suit a movements away if needed.
the batcave that they're heading to is embedded within the side of a mountain , overlooking a small stream that runs through the woods. the first of FIVE that would inevitably be created.
his fingers then move through hair , a nervous habit in which arthur had commented on mere seconds before. ' you don't miss a thing do you? ' cheeks pull upwards as grey eyes soften , the ease of a smile settles. makeup spreading even more as coal rounded eyes widen features. ' just used to being hunted ... ' words soft , though there is no need for them to be secretive with words , the bat-mobile safe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
' figured we were safe ' he casts a look over to arthur , ' how was paskha ? ' his wording awkward with a language he didn't know but his attempt is made out of love , ' what did you guys do ? how were my nieces and nephew ? ' care taken.

sky full of song (shepard/garrus)
Happy Holiday Harbinger, @nelsynoo!
The shuttle door opens and Shepard squints into the bright Tuchanka sun. Slipping on her sunglasses from where they rest atop her head, she follows Garrus out off the shuttle and onto the sand-covered platform. They’re halted by the pair of krogan working the docks – one of them demanding identification, the other shushing his partner it’s Shepard and Vakarian, you moron – but it’s cut short by deep, amused laughter echoing from the corridor.
“Shit, kid,” Wrex says to the one trying his damndest to adhere to some sort of protocol, “with these two, it’s best just to get out of their way.” The platform shakes a little as he walks up the ramp. “Good to see you, Shepard.”
Grinning, Shepard reaches out and clasps his arm in greeting. ”Thanks for having us, Wrex.”
He turns and gives the same greeting to Garrus. “Wouldn’t have you miss it.” His omnitool beeps. “And it looks like you’re just in time.” He tells the dock workers to have their luggage transported to his home, and then leads them down the corridor toward the settlement.
“I’m surprised he doesn’t have a camera set up, broadcasting to the whole galaxy,” Garrus whispers.
Shepard stifles a laugh and catches his hand. “Bakara probably nixed it.” She doesn’t blame her; it’s a wondrous – miraculous, really – occasion, but also private. “Maybe on the next one. Besides,” she says as they round a corner, “krogan don’t do anything quietly. It’ll be all over the extranet within two minutes.”
“That’s a generous estimate,” Garrus murmurs.
Wrex chuckles, overhearing the last bit of conversation. “As much as I hate to agree with Vakarian, my people don’t have that kind of restraint.”
“Forty-five seconds, then,” Shepard grins.
“That’s more like it.” He opens the door of an idling tomkah and gestures for the two of them to get in.
***
The truck pulls up next to a brand new facility covered in a thin layer of dust and sand. It isn’t shiny anymore, but without the weathered and pockmarked exterior common to the rest of Tuchanka’s structures, it stands out like a beacon.
And maybe, Shepard muses as she jumps out of the truck, it is.
The door opens, blasting them with cool, filtered air and the steady beeping of medical equipment. She’s seen blueprints and photos, and even video when talking to Bakara every week, but no amount of studying diagrams or examining a digital image could really prepare her for actually seeing the lab.
It’s small, but they’ve used every inch of space. Incubators line the walls, with a few more sitting in the center of the room. Warm orange light emanates from the incubators, heating the precious eggs held safely within. Most have two or three, a few only one – but, Shepard knows, they’re all viable.
She blinks back tears, clearing her vision.
“There you are,” Bakara says, ushering them over to an incubator in the center of the room. Wrex is already standing beside her, looking eagerly through the glass.
One of the two eggs rocks energetically back and forth, nearly tipping over on its side.
“We’re naming that one after you,” Wrex says. “Impatient, stubborn little thing.”
Shepard feels heat rise to her cheeks, and hears Garrus stifle a laugh beside her. “Thanks, Wrex.”
“Careful, they might end up headbutting people much larger than they are,” Garrus says, sliding an arm around her waist.
Wrex snorts. “That’s just good parenting.”
Bakara sighs heavily and shakes her head, but her smile gives away her false disapproval.
The eager one takes that moment to crack the shell, silencing the four of them. By the time the tiny krogan girl crawls completely out of her shell, covered in goo and blinking in the bright light, her sibling has started their own journey into the world.
***
“Urdnot Shepard,” Garrus says much later that night, after a brother and sister were both fully hatched and named (and on the extranet a full minute later) and celebratory drinks were had. “How does it feel to have the first krogan born after the genophage named after you?” He settles his arm around her shoulders, tugging her close as they walk toward Wrex’s home and a night’s rest.
“A little weird. Though not as weird as having a shuttleport named after me.” She’s lost count of how many things bear her name now, whether she wanted it or not. At least the flood of invitations to dedication ceremonies has calmed down.
She pauses and stares up at Tuchanka’s night sky: brilliant stars despite the dust, and a faint aurora. Moonlight silhouettes the Shroud’s broken skeleton in the distance. Strange that it was only a year and a half ago she was here in armor, dashing madly between brutes to activate the maw hammers. It feels like a lifetime.
Her omnitool beeps. It’s a video from Wrex, and she tilts it so Garrus can watch. Both babies are asleep on Bakara’s shoulders, snoring softly; the little boy – Urdnot Mordin – gently kneads his tiny fists against her.
“You’re never gonna get any other messages from him ever again,” Garrus says.
Shepard grins and sends back a quick reply. “I’m really not.” She leans against him and starts walking again. “Worth it, though.”
Garrus’ subharmonics rumble quietly in the back of his throat. “Definitely worth it,” he says, pressing his mouthplates to her temple.
They silently make their way through the settlement toward Wrex and Bakara’s home. Shepard pauses by a table full of krogan to give Grunt a friendly headbutt of congratulations on his new cousins, or nieces and nephews – they’ll figure out familial relations in the morning.
By the time they make it to their room, Wrex has managed to send both of them five different pictures each, all of the two children sleeping. Two more come in while Shepard’s brushing her teeth; the one of Urdnot Shepard on her stomach, arms and legs splayed out like she just suddenly stopped whatever she was doing to take a nap instead, nearly makes her spit out her toothpaste in laughter. She sets her omnitool on silent, looking forward to waking up to a cavalcade of photos and videos, and finishes getting ready for bed.
“What do you think about kids?” Garrus asks, settling his arms around her.
Shepard smiles and laces her fingers between his. She’s had a few too many drinks to have that talk tonight, but she nods as she turns off the light. “I think it’s a conversation worth having,” she says.
Garrus hugs her just a little bit tighter, and kisses the top of her head. “Me too.”

Meeting the parents headcanons? Any or all pairings?
I’m sorry this is late and I’m even sorrier that this might not be a good read. under read more because it’s a bit long.
winnix
for all of his easy bravado, Lewis Nixon is really nervous about meeting Dick Winters’ parents for the first time. he’s afraid that Dick’s parents won’t see him as someone worthy to be loved by their son, so he spends the better part of Saturday night worrying over the meeting. he buys the most expensive thing (”my parents don’t drink, Lew.” “well, shit now I gotta buy something else. do they eat cheese?” “sit down, Lewis.”), he actually color-coordinates his clothes so he will be pleasantly matching from head to toe.
Lew keeps waking up in the middle of the night to whisper to Dick “what if they don’t like me? let’s just elope then afterwards we can go meet your parents.” “Lew, it’s 4 in the morning. go. to sleep.”
and when he does meet Dick’s parents, he goes all formal and super polite, all that Yale education bleeding through his posture and his words; saying ma’am and sir and tipping his fucking head like he’s wearing a cowboy hat and Dick just looks amused by all this.
and listen, Dick’s dad is super traditional so the first thing he asks is, “have you asked my son to marry you?” and Mix, honest to god, misses the couch and hits his ass on the wood floor instead, looking like fish outta water.
Lew looks at Dick’s dad and then at Dick’s mom and blinks his big bambi eyes and says “I haven’t but I have the ring already and I was planning to ask later after I ask for your blessing.”
it’s probably the best answer because afterwards, Dick’s dad looks less gruff and Dick’s mom smiles sweetly while serving him the apple pie.
so it’s all good.
(except the part where Dick’s dad asks Lew if he has ever driven a tractor to which Lew shakes his head no and it seems like it’s high time for Lew to learn how to drive one bc “you would inherit the farm anyway if you decide to make an honest man of my son” and who better to teach him but Dick’s dad but listen, even when Nix ruins the barb wires and one half of the corn field; it’s all good because in the end, just before they go back home, Dick’s dad shakes his hand firmly and slaps his back and says, “welcome to the family, son.”)
baberoe
Roe brings Babe to the family cookout back in Louisiana. it’s a very large family gathering’ all the aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews are there too.
of course Roe’s grandma is presence; the matriarch of the family, the one who practices magic to heal people. the one with very smooth face and very wise eyes, and very very old and withered hands and fingers that look like claws. the one who loves his grandson fiercely because gene is the only one following her footsteps to treat people back to health.
the one who looks at Babe coolly and eyebrows him until he’s sitting in front of her; eyes wide with trepidation when she grabs his hand firmly; her sharp eyes never leaving his boyish face, it is as if she’s searching for something  by looking deep into his eyes.
and after awhile, she maybe has found something something worthy in him because she lets go of his hand with a slow smirk, but not before she pulls him closer.
whispering in her smoky voice that she “will not hesitate to cast magic on you, boy. O heal people, but I know how to make them hurt too. and if you do him wrong, you will suffer greatly.”
and later, when Babe tells Gene about it, his boyfriend just shrugs simply says, “she likes you.”
Babe doesn’t believe it but he knows not to contest it too.
webgott
see, Web grew up in a very emotionally distance family. he grew up not knowing the full capacity of mother’s love and father’s protection. so when Lieb asks him to go back to Frisco to meet his family; Web hesitates because what if he can’t fit in with Lieb’s happy family?
which turns out to be untrue because upon arriving at lieb’s childhood home, Ma Liebgott is already sweeping Web of his feet; grabbing him by his arms and warmly engulfing him in a firm hug; chattering hundred miles per minute about how Web looks like a Hollywood actor.
“are you sure he’s a professor, Joey? he looks like an actor! look at his face! his eyes are so blue! my future son-in-law has the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen! I’m gonna have blue eyed grandchildren!”
Lieb just leans against the threshold; smirking triumphantly when Web looks at him with a surprised expression.
and you know what, Lieb’s sisters will be there too to see the man that manages to put up with their brother’s short-temper and gruff demeanor and lemme tell you something; they will show Web all the baby photos of Joe and tell him about all the embarrassing stories about their lil brother.
and Web’s fear about not fitting in with Lieb’s family doesn’t even materialize because they all love Webster esp. Lieb’s Ma who keeps telling Web that Lieb talks so much about him that Web is a great guy (with Lieb protesting at the back) and Lieb’s nieces adore Web too because he gives them chocolates and plays with them and makes up stories for their entertainment and Lieb just melts when he sees Web carrying his youngest niece on his hip, while he explains to her about sharks.
and Lieb knows Web feels at ease when he looks around the boisterous family, and instead of looking like he’s about to bolt away, Web looks happy and that’s enough for Lieb.
