I would like to also add another subspecies, the Steve, who is some random cishet guy someone found on the street and he's a little weird but he's super chill with everyone else being queer and he's pretty funny when you get to know him so you keep him around. He's probably way into computer science.
I have one of these in real life, he's my favorite coworker and he is (hilariously) also the Steve for several separate discord and minecraft servers with no overlapping members, none of which I am a part of.
I once asked him what he thought of this phenomenon and he just said "idk man I just keep making friends with people and then it turns out that they and the rest of their friend group are gay or trans"
He asks me for girl advice (though I am incredibly unhelpful, being the useless lesbian that I am) and likes sending me pictures of fish. He once asked if me if I wanted him to set me up with a girl in his "everybody here is trans but Steve" minecraft server just cause he thought we had similar senses of humor (even though she lives on the other side of the country).
great dude, highly recommend getting yourself a Steve.
I'm kind of at a point where the "queer spaces" i feel safest in are the ones that have a pet cishet dude or two hanging around
#he's literally one of the oddest men I know#but he's great#he took his girlfriend fishing for their first date#he likes tracking his friend's locations on snapchat and then messaging them that he can see them#he has a hat that he says he feels naked without#and he and I have nearly gotten fired for talking to much on the job#besties :333#reblog#Steve :3

Hey, sorry to bother you but I was wondering if I could make a request for Jaden Hossler or Chase Hudson where he cheats on the reader cause he thinks him she is cheating on him when she's actually planning a surprise b-day party or something like that...
I’m SO sorry about the wait, though this was an amazing request and I had so much fun writing this, though it is a tad sad lol. I chose Chase solely because I kinda have a soft spot for him and love him just a tad more than Jaden. Though if you ever want to submit another one for Jaden or have me re-write this one but with Jaden or a slightly different plot PLEASE let me know.
There is language and some slightly explicit mentions so beware! Nothing graphic though.
Chase’s POV
She’d been gone a lot in the past week, giving him stupid excuses as to why she was. She’d stopped answering her phone and had started sending his calls to voicemail. It was like they weren’t even dating. She’d call him late at night, or during the strangest hours and he had no clue why. She had also turned off her location so he couldn’t see it and when he had asked her she claimed she hadn’t done anything, though he had checked with her best friend and found out that she could still see it.
Chase had tried bringing it up to his girlfriend, but she’d come up with excuses about why she couldn’t talk. She’d always have something else to do instead of hanging out with him. And she used to be at his house every single day.
He’d had hope that it was just a misunderstanding, at least until he saw the snapchat posted by her best male friend, the two of them together, her whispering in his ear. And that had sealed the deal for him. He just knew. She was cheating on him. It was the only reasonable explanation.
He thought he trusted her, at least before this. And now, he most definitely didn’t. She’d given him a reason not to... right?
Y/N’s POV
You’re knee deep in the planning for your boyfriends 19th birthday. Everything needed to be perfect. He’d given you so much, made you happy again, and had done everything to keep you happy. He gave you his all and you gave him everything that you could in return.
Besides just the regular planning, you wanted to get all of his far away friends and family to him. Which meant coordinating flights and accommodating times for people.
Then, you wanted to get him his dream snake. You’d found the perfect breeder. Reliable with a good reputation and animals that were kept in good conditions. The snake was beautiful, you’d hand picked the snake. Knowing exactly what color, size, and gender that Chase was hoping for.
He hadn’t gotten his hands on one because of just how expensive they were. Retailing for more than he could comfortable spend in one setting. Plus he hadn’t been able to find a breeder. You only had because of just how much research, time and effort you had put into this.
You’d had to withdraw from your boyfriend, for the mere fact that you were bad at keeping secrets and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he KNEW about it. You’d even turned your location off because if he checked, the secret would be blown. And of course you missed him terribly but you’d get to be back to spending every single day at his house as soon as you got this all figured out.
Every time you turned around, something would go wrong that you’d then have to fix.
The party was tomorrow, and you couldn’t wait to pick up your boyfriend and surprise him.
Chase’s POV
He knew exactly where to go. The girl that had always given him too much attention, the girl that he knows Y/N despised. He’d always blown her off, made it clear that he wasn’t available or interested but now, now he could go to her.
He strategically posts on his story about being at his favorite burger joint. And barely minutes later, her snap comes in. She asks if she can hang with him. Normally Chase would ignore the message and show Y/N so they could both roll their eyes together.
But this time.. he says yes and sends her the exact location.
And, she shows up. She’s in a top thats way too revealing, and she immediately clings to him, dragging her disgusting fingertips through her hair in a way that feels nothing like hers. He grimaces, but when she leans in to kiss him... he lets her. And of course she gets the entire thing on camera. He knows that it’ll be all over the internet ridiculously soon and that his girlfriend would see it soon. Which is exactly what he wanted. To throw her the way that she did him.
Y/N’s POV
It’s her best friend that brings it to her attention, a somber look on his face. He holds his phone out to her and she knows exactly what shes seeing but at the same time she doesn’t know. It’s her boyfriend... but its not her. He’s... not kissing her. It’s the girl that he’d always trashtalked and shut down. The one that he was always telling her not to worry about.
You hear the broken noise that leaves you, and then a feeling of anger washes over you. Here you are, putting your all into something for Chase and he dares disrespect you this way? All the years the two of you had together thrown away for... for what exactly? Her? The shallow girl who wanted fame and wanted to spread her legs for him. What did he even see in her?
In an instant you’ve reached over, grabbed your best friend and pulled him into you. Your lips touch his and you kiss him roughy, sliding your hand up his shirt. You need to exact revenge upon your boy- well, you suppose that after this he isn’t your boyfriend anymore. Your best friend is tense as your other hand reaches for his belt and you pull.
And then in an instant he’s yanking away from you, wiping furiously at his lips.
“Y/N, you’re hurting. I know you dont mean this.” And then he moves back next to you, wrapping his arms around you. You collapse into him sobbing.
“C-cancel all of-of it. It’s o-over.”
He nods and rubs your back sympathetically.
~~~
You’re standing at Chase’s door, trying to hold in the tears. You’ve bribed yourself by putting on makeup, as a way to keep you from losing it and beginning to ball in front of him. He needed to see you strong. Next to you are the trash bags full of the stuff that he had left at your house. As well as clothes that he’d given you and you had taken from him, and all the gifts from over the years.
You had planned to just leave it at his door and run, but some small part of you needed closure. You needed to know WHY. Why he would through years away for this random girl. And just how long had it been going on between the two of them?
With a shaky hand, you press the doorbell. It rings with a loud clang. Seconds later, the door opens revealing a very ragged looking Chase Hudson. His eyes go wide when he sees you and then they go cold.
“What the hell do you want?” He spits at you.
Immediately your voice rises in pitch. “Excuse you!? How DARE you talk to me that way after all that you’ve done.”
“Are you kidding me? What about what you’ve done?!”
“What have I done Chase? PLEASE tell me what I’ve done so badly to make you throw away our entire relationship!”
“You cheated on me!” He yells, at a volume that the entire neighborhood can probably hear.
“Only AFTER you cheated on me!” You scream back.
“Don’t play dumb with me Y/N, you know you did. That entire week, distant, you were acting suspicious because you were cheating on me!”
“I was planning a surprise birthday party asshole!”
“Y-you-“ he stutters.
“YES! Yes I was Chase. Setting up flights for your family, tracking down your snake, monitoring every detail, for you. And then YOU cheated on ME. I only kissed him after he showed me the picture.”
Chase stutters and you gesture at the bags on the ground.
“That’s your stuff. We’re over. Screw you Chase.” And you whip around, striding down the steps and holding your breath in an attempt to keep the tears at bay.
“Wait!” He calls, but youre at your car now and you dont want to have to listen to anything he has to say.
You fling your car door open, jumping inside and starting the engine. You release the parking brake and speed out of his driveway, in the process you hit one of his garbage cans and it goes flying but quite honestly you could care less.
You speed away from his house, away from the boy you loved. For what very well could be the last time.
take her to the moon - ty emberson
this all came from another random idea that @puckyess and I had that we ran with lol. if you like it let me know!! reblogs, lines you liked, even a simple ‘good job’ are all super appreciated :)
word count: 4.8k
__
You look around the room at the boys you were familiar with, but not comfortable around. You know them all well enough. In fact, you’d known them since your freshman year. But they weren’t your favorite boys. No, these were more like your obligation due to your boyfriend.
You check your phone and find yet another ridiculous Snapchat from your actual favorite boys, Ty specifically, and your heart sinks a bit. You’d much rather be with them, where they’re apparently making Brock take shots even though he can’t handle them, than being stuck with your boyfriend and the rest of his team - the basketball team.
The hockey boys were your actual friends. The ones you’d celebrated big wins with, had breakdowns in front of, and the ones who knew you the best. You look up and see some girl put her hand on your boyfriend’s arm, but he doesn’t shake it off. Of course he doesn’t, but you don’t even want to address it right that second.
You open your messages and respond to the video Ty had just sent, knowing he’d respond quickly.
‘Ugh looks way more fun than here :(‘
‘You know you’re always welcome. I can come pick you up if you want’
You smile, tucking your phone in your back pocket and deciding it was time to go. You’re sick of this little get together so you make your way over to your boyfriend and tap his arm. He turns away from the girl he still won’t turn down and his smile drops.
“Danny, I think I’m headed home. I have to be up early tomorrow,” you lie, but you know he won’t question it. It was only his lies that ever got questioned.
He nods and surprisingly takes your hand, “I’ll come with. Make sure you get back safe and everything.”
You smile and take the action at face value rather than trying to read into it like you sometimes did. Danny says his goodbyes as you follow him out the door. He drops your hand though as soon as you both exit and you can’t help but frown.
He’d been acting odd again and the feeling that something all too familiar was coming was impossible to shake. You try and make the best of things though and smile up at him.
“Are you excited to not have a game this weekend?” You ask, referring to their first weekend off all season.
He shrugs and jams his finger into the button for the elevator without glancing at you, “yeah it should be nice. Are we hanging out?”
“Uh, well,” you stutter, forgetting to have told him you wouldn’t be available, “I kind of already had some plans.”
“So cancel them,” he says, like it’s no big deal. Like your plans can’t matter more than one of the few weekends he had off in a season.
You grit your teeth a little, “I can’t just cancel them. I’m going to Ty’s game since you don’t have one.”
Danny lets out a short humorless laugh then as the elevator arrives, “oh, of course you are. You know you don’t owe him shit, right?”
“Fuck off, Dan. We aren’t doing this again. He’s my best friend and you know that,” you sigh, crossing your arms as you lean back against the wall of the elevator.
Danny keeps his mouth shut the rest of the elevator ride and the ten minute walk back over to your apartment building, which you welcome after the attitude he copped immediately at the mention of Ty. You knew your roommate was out for the night and so you let Danny in behind you with no hesitation. She wasn’t exactly his biggest fan.
“Will you flip the lock right away?” You ask as you kick your shoes off and head for the kitchen.
“Uh,” Danny starts, his tone causing you to stop in your tracks, “are we gonna have sex?”
“Seriously? That’s the only thing you’re concerned with right now?” You ask, jaw dropping in shock. Danny could be brash but this was a new level from him.
He shrugs like the question was normal and you scoff as you tell him, “maybe you should just leave. I don’t know what your issue is tonight but don’t take it out on me.”
“Cool, see you next week since Emberson is more important,” he scoffs and heads out the door.
You think you’re quick enough to follow after him, grabbing for the door handle, but it slams just before you can grab the cool metal. Instead you lean your forehead onto the door and sigh. Things had never been quite this bad with Danny.
With a sigh you lock the door yourself and trudge back to the kitchen. You fill your tea kettle and turn it on before going to slip into some pajamas. Heading back to the kitchen you go to reach for a mug, but your phone starts to buzz incessantly on the counter.
You frown but pick it up, seeing Ty’s face flashing across the screen. It was late but that was no surprise with him. He called whenever he wanted and you’d always pick up, but he did the same for you with no questions asked.
“Yes, Ty?” You answer, a little smile spreading across your face immediately.
He laughs on the other end, the background noise starting to fade, “well hello to you, too. Are you home already?”
Your eyes slip closed as you lean back against your counter, “yeah, I am.”
Ty can immediately hear the tone change in your voice and he sighs, “what did he do?”
You bite your lip for a couple seconds and then release it all. You tell Ty everything. All your worries and the ways you thought Danny had been acting weird lately, as well as the sinking feeling you couldn’t seem to shake. Ty doesn’t interrupt once and he’s so quiet that you have to check a few times that he’s still there and listening.
Every time you ask you get the same answer, “of course, I’m always here for you.”
You talk to him until you can barely keep your eyes open and he can hear the exhaustion in your voice. He tells you it’s okay if you need to go to bed because he knows you have an early class the next day and he’d feel awful if he contributed to any sort of sleep deprivation. You finally cave and tell him good night, but you make one last mistake before going to bed.
You get settled in under your covers and open up your Snapchat map. You don’t usually check it for anything, but something that night tells you to look. You see most of your friends in their normal places, but one name makes your blood run cold.
Danny’s location shows him somewhere that he had no business being at considering how late at night it was - the Gamma Phi house. You zoom in and out a few times, trying to make sure it was the right place. You finally understand why you’d been having that bad gut feeling lately and why Danny was being so weird.
You don’t know what to do first, and even though your first instinct is to call Ty and break down to him, you decide you should send Danny a text. You type a message just to delete and retry it a few more times. Eventually you decide on something simple.
‘I know we’ve been fighting a lot lately, but I still care about you. I love you. You know that right?’
To your surprise the little conversation dots pop up after less than a minute. You hold your breath, hoping the map location had been an odd technical mistake. Once the message finally comes in you feel your world crumble a little.
‘Yep’
You stare at the message and try to process it. That was all he had to say? You’d been together for the better part of two year, admittedly with some time apart, but this certainly wasn’t the reaction you were expecting. You knew then that he was checked out, and as much as your heart hurts to ask him the next question, you needed to know. You deserved to know.
‘You’re leaving me again aren’t you?’
This time your question goes unanswered, but he reads it. He’d had his read receipts on since the beginning of the relationship and you were pretty sure he didn’t even remember by then that they were still a thing. Knowing that he read the message but refused to say anything only made matters worse.
You try and take a couple deep breaths but it’s not working, no matter how hard you try. So you do what you always do when you’re scared or Danny does something that hurts you. You call Ty again.
“Hello?” He asks, his voice scratchy now compared to when you’d just spoke with him less than an hour ago.
“Oh shit, are you sleeping?” You ask, pinching the bridge of your nose to try and keep your voice calm.
He sighs and you can hear him shifting, most likely sitting up, “I kind of was, yeah. What’s wrong?”
“Ty, I…” you begin to say but your voice cracks before you can even get through his name, “I think he’s cheating on me.”
Ty doesn’t have to ask what you mean and you easily hear the frustrated grunt he lets out. He never really liked Danny so you aren’t surprised by his reaction. What you are surprised by is his next question considering what time of night it was.
“Do you want me to come over?”
Your bottom lip wobbles a little over the question, “yeah, I don’t want to be alone tonight.”
Ty gently says goodbye and tells you he’ll be over in a couple minutes. You thank your lucky stars then that your apartments were only a couple blocks from each other because you couldn’t hold it together much longer.
A knock on the front door has you bolting off of the couch you’d moved yourself to shortly after the phone call ended. You open the door and find a very tired looking Ty, but he still manages a little smile for you.
“Come here,” he mumbles and takes a step inside.
You’re quick to wrap your arms around his waist and press your face into him. He hugs you just as tight, but reaches behind him to flip the lock on your door.
It’s a motion you don’t miss because it’s something you always had to remind Danny to do but it’s something that Ty does naturally because he knows it makes you feel safer.
Slowly, Ty wobbles you backwards to your room and holds up the covers so you can climb in. He lets them drop and grabs the throw blanket you keep at the end of your bed to cover himself up with. He settles in next to you while you press your forehead against his arm.
“Why am I never good enough, Ty? Why can’t I date someone and not have them cheat for once?” You mumble, voice muffled by the sleeve of his shirt.
Ty sighs, pressing a kiss to your head, “you’re more than good enough. I don’t get why he does what he does, but don’t think it’s because somethings wrong with you. You deserve the whole world and the moon.”
You smile a little finally and it makes Ty’s heart a little lighter. If he could break Danny’s jaw he absolutely would, but he knows you wouldn’t be happy about it so he’s never done it. He hates seeing you cry and question yourself when he knows how good you could be treated.
He keeps most of it to himself though. He waits until he knows you’re fully asleep before he lets himself look down at you. He can’t help but smile when he sees you still pressed against him, red cheeks almost matching his Wisconsin shirt.
He really means it when he tells you that you deserve the whole world and the moon.
—
You don’t hear from Danny by the next day and Ty is gone by the time you wake up. Your head is pounding and you consider whether skipping class is worth missing out on the lecture. Eventually you drag yourself out of bed but opt for comfier clothes.
You pull a hoodie from your closet and slip it on, not realizing what one it was until you saw the ‘21’ embroidered on the red sleeve. You shrug and smirk a little. If Danny wanted to let you go then you’d have more time to hang out with Ty and his friends.
Class drags by and you pick up a coffee on your way home. The boys had a game that night but your homework was piling up so that took precedence. You’d just have to put the game on in the background. You’re quick to bury yourself in your work, but not before sending Ty your traditional ‘good luck’ text.
You put your phone down after sending it and get lost in your report, not even realizing the game was well underway, or that you’d missed a few calls and even more texts from Danny.
A sharp knock on your front door and your roommate's annoyed voice when she opens it lets you know your boyfriend, if he even was that anymore, was there to see you. You roll your eyes and keep working, not bothering to go see what he wanted.
“Hello to you too,” he grumbles, walking in and sitting on your bed next to you. He looks at your tv and notices the hockey game, but instead of insulting it, his next comment shocks you, “I’m gonna go to Ty’s game with you tomorrow.”
Your eyes almost pop out of your head and you choke on air. He had never called him Ty, always Emberson, and his tone was oddly nice. You eye him carefully, waiting for the joke to be over.
“You don’t have to,” you remind him, hoping he’ll change his mind. What kind of prank was this? What was he trying to prove?
He smiles and shakes his head, “no it’s fine. I’ll go with you.”
“Are we going to talk about that message I sent you last night?” you ask, glancing over at him.
“Babe,” he sighs, rubbing a hand over his face, “I don’t want to fight with you. I just had to pick up some notes for a class I missed because of a team meeting.”
You bite the inside of your cheek, knowing you couldn’t prove him wrong, “whatever. I wait after the games for Ty though. I’m not changing that just because you’re coming for once. Got it?”
Danny rolls his eyes but doesn’t say another word. You realize he’s staring at the white ‘21’ stitched in the arm of your sweatshirt and you give him a warning look. He knows better than to argue about it. Ty was in your life long before he was, and would be around long after at this rate.
—
The air in the arena is cold, just like you were used to, and you can’t help but smile as you take your seat. This was your happy place and Danny seemed to be quietly taking things in, not having been too big of a pain in the ass for once. He’d made a small comment about the crowd size when you got there but you chose to just ignore him. The only thing that had you nervous was the fact Ty didn’t know Danny was coming that night. You had decided it might be better not to say anything.
The boys take the ice for warmups and as you’re trying to find Ty you do. Except he’s found you first and you can see how tight his jaw is set. He isn’t looking at you. He’s looking at Danny sitting next to you. You try to shoot him a smile but he ignores it, focusing back on the warmups he needed to lead as you feel your shoulders slump when you let out a sigh.
“So Emberson’s like… good then? He’s captain?” Danny asks, motioning vaguely at the ice.
You smile and nod, looking down near the net where he was passing pucks, “yeah he was super excited when they gave it to him. He deserves it though.”
Danny scoffs a little, “yeah, sure he does.”
You force yourself to take a steadying breath, already knowing this would be the longest game of your life. You were wondering if waiting for Ty after was really the best idea, but you weren’t about to break tradition now.
Danny sits through the whole game with what you would consider minor complaints from him. He makes a couple comments about some shitty plays Ty’s involved in and you yell at him every time for it. Ty got a lot more playing time than Danny and you were quick to remind him of that fact. That got him quiet in a hurry.
You head for the lobby once the arena clears a little and see some of the girlfriends and ‘just friends’ that were around after most of the games, saying hi to the ones you knew. A couple of them eye Danny, not familiar with him being around ever before. It only takes five minutes before Danny starts to complain and embarrass you in front of people.
“Seriously, how long does this dude take? He doesn’t even skate that fast to need to take that long of a shower,” he whines, tugging on your hand as he takes a step towards the door.
You pull your hand back and hiss at him, “that’s enough. I told you I wait for him and I’m not leaving early. Stop.”
“This is stupid,” he says loudly, making you duck your head, “he’s not even your boyfriend. I am. Why are you wasting your time sitting here and waiting for him?”
“Yeah well your girlfriend wasn’t at the Gamma Phi house last night either but you still went there,” you snap, finally sick of him always picking on Ty for no reason.
Danny’s eye twitches a little and he finally lowers his voice, “I told you what I was doing there. I had to get notes from class.”
“You’re a liar and we both know it. What’s her name, Danny? How long have you been fucking her?” you ask through gritted teeth, staring him down despite the height difference between you two.
“Two months. Are you happy now?” he asks, his temper quickly running out, “did you want me to tell you I’m sleeping around? Huh?”
You feel the tears well in your eyes, but not because you’re sad. You’re about to cry because you’re embarrassed and frustrated. You’re ready to pull back and slap him when someone clears their throat behind Danny. He turns around, giving you both a view of Ty standing there with his hands clenched at his sides.
“I’ll give you two minutes to walk out of this arena before I knock you out,” Ty says, his voice so calm it scares you.
You look up at Danny when he glances your way, “we’re over. Don’t call me or text me. Get out of here.”
Danny’s lip snarls and he glares at Ty on his way out, “have fun with her. She’s a psycho and she’ll ruin your life.”
You don’t even listen to his immature little outburst but as soon as he steps out of the arena you try to reach for Ty, wanting a hug more than anything. He steps to the side and heads for the door, leaving you confused.
“Let’s go,” he mumbles, eyes locked on the ground and not checking to see if you’re following as he walks outside.
__
“Ty, I’m sorry. Will you please just talk to me?” You ask, practically begging at this point.
You’d been trying to get Ty to talk to you for the last eight blocks as you head back towards your apartments. He refused to say a word, but he stayed close to your side as the two of you made the agonizingly long walk back. You weren’t sure what his issue was so you figured you’d just keep apologizing until he gave you some indication of his issue.
“Just stop,” he finally says, “wait until we’re back at your place and then we can talk about this.”
You blush and look down at your shoes, feeling like a little kid who had just been reprimanded. Ty rarely took such a serious tone with you and it had you scared. You weren’t about to lose your boyfriend and best friend in one night, were you? You didn’t think you could handle that.
But you listen to his request and forgo the questions for the time being. You both fall into a silence that’s usually comfortable, but feels completely opposite this time around. Your thoughts are running rapidly through your head and your overthinking makes you worry. You could lose Danny. It sucked, but he’d hurt you enough times that it was okay to not have him anymore. Ty though? You couldn’t lose him. You’d be so lost without him and you’d hate yourself for it for the rest of your life.
You open up your apartment and find it empty, hanging your keys up on the little hook where they belonged. You aren’t sure where to go so you wander into your kitchen, refolding a towel that was already folded on the countertop. Ty leans on the other end of the little peninsula and watches you, reaching up and loosening his tie.
“What the fuck was that tonight?” he finally asks, watching you fidget with the cloth in your hands.
Your eyebrows pinch as you look over at him, “what do you mean? Danny finally admitting he’s cheating on me or what?”
“Why was he even fucking there? I don’t go to his games so why was he at mine? That’s kind of fucked up, don’t you think?” he asks, his voice raising little by little.
“I don’t know, Ty,” you shrug, setting the towel down again and crossing your arms, “he said he wanted to go and I wasn’t about to miss your game when I finally was able to go to it.”
“You better not fucking go back to him. If you do, I’m done. I’m not watching you get your heart broke again when you know that’s what he’ll do.”
Your heart starts to beat faster as your voice drops, “stop, I’m not going back to him. Don’t even say you’re done. That’s not fair.”
“That’s not fair? Are you kidding me?” he scoffs, shaking his head in disbelief, “you can bring your cheating piece of shit boyfriend to my games and expect me to clean up the messes he makes, but I can’t tell you that I’m done being your safety net? Please tell me how that’s not fair.”
“Ty, please. I need you in my life. I don’t need him and I’m not going back to him. Why are you so mad about this?” you ask, because honestly you don’t think you’d ever seen Ty this worked up before. Especially not towards you and it makes a lump form in your throat.
“When is it my turn?” He asks, his voice strained and his breathing heavy, “when do I get to show you how you should be treated? When do I get to show you what it’s like to actually be cared about?”
“Ty, don’t,” you whisper, tears starting to spill over.
“Don’t what? Don’t admit that I’m in love with you? I can’t keep lying. I know you let him lie all the time, but I just can’t do it anymore.”
And there it was. The truth you’d been ignoring for three years. For three whole years while Ty stood by you through everything without saying one sour word. Every long night, every heartbreak episode, every time that Danny cheated. He was finally breaking his silence and it took your breath away.
“All I ever wanted was to see you in my jersey. At my games. But I never got that and all you got was your heart broken while I cleaned up the damage,” he clears his throat, looking up at the ceiling and swallowing hard.
You’d never seen Ty act like this. Not in the entire time you’d known him. He was always the calm one, the collected one. Everywhere but on the ice and you’d missed far too many of his games for this friendship to be fair. Enough was enough on both of your ends and it wasn’t fair to keep treating him like you had been. You walk over to him and hesitantly reach for his hands, taking them in your smaller ones. He lets you, but you see his bottom lip wobble a little.
“Ty, I’m so sorry,” you whisper, pulling him down for a hug.
You hold onto him so tight you half expect him to push you away so he can breathe, but he wraps you in his arms just as tight. He rests his forehead in the crook of your neck as you play with the little hairs at the nape of his neck.
“I’m sorry, bub. I’m so sorry I did this to you for so long,” you apologize again, feeling like all the words in the world weren’t enough. You’d ignored your feelings for him for all these years and they were finally bubbling to the surface. You weren’t reading this wrong hopefully.
He pulls back, standing up straight, and moves his hands to cup your cheeks, “I hate seeing you upset. I hate seeing you cry. I hate knowing I can’t fix things because I’m not even the one who broke them. I don’t think we’d be perfect but I know for a damn fact I could be so much better to you than he ever was.”
You nod quickly, knowing he was right, “you’ve always been better to me than him. I don’t know why I stuck around him. I guess I figured maybe you didn’t feel that way about me.”
“Are you kidding?” he asks, a little laugh slipping past his lips, “was getting you ice cream and wine on your birthday and sitting next to you while you soaked in the tub because you failed a test not enough proof?”
“Okay, hold on,” you laugh, putting your hand over his mouth.
“No,” he says, muffled at first but then he playfully bites your palm to get you to move your hand, “or how about the time I stayed on facetime with you my entire road trip back from Minnesota because you decided you needed to watch a scary movie and couldn’t fall asleep until I got back and would come sleep over?”
“I get it! I’m sorry!” you interject, but his hands slip down to your sides, starting to tickle you so suddenly you let out a little scream.
He wraps his arms around you then, laughing as well, “don’t scream! Someone’s gonna think I’m hurting you in here!”
You know he’s trying to be serious but you’re both laughing like mad and leaning into each other so much that you aren’t sure who’s holding who up. It takes a few minutes for you both to calm down, but you finally catch your breath. You look up at him again, but this time you glance down at his lips. You’d be a liar if you said you never wondered what kissing him was like.
He seems to catch your drift and leans down slowly, kissing you like he’s scared you’ll run away. Instead you lean into him, feeling giddy and happy and content all at once. Kissing him is better than any other guy you’ve ever kissed in your life, that much you’re sure of. You press a little further, slipping your tongue along his bottom lip until he lets you in.
You’re breathless and blushing when you finally pull back and Ty’s lips are so red you can’t help but brush your thumb along the bottom one. He tips his head quickly and kisses your thumb, a smile already on his face.
“You know when I said you deserve the whole world and the moon the other night?” he asks quietly.
You smile, still remembering that phrase clearly, “yeah, what about it?”
“I’m the one whose going to give you the whole world and the moon. I promise,” he swears, leaning his forehead against yours. You know he’s telling the truth, too, and you can’t wait to see what that promise holds.
Imagine:
You have been working at this fancy Hotel for a week now.
None of your co-workers like you. They find it funny to see you struggle. To give vague instructions and directions so you look like a complete idiot.
To make matters worse your boyfriend has decided to ignore all your attempts you make to talk to him.
Just before work today you called him and he declined the call and messaged you, not now.
Your supervisor asked you to clean down the tables, counters, and picture frames in the hallways.
The tables and counters are easy but your short stature presents a problem when it comes to the picture frames on the wall. Looking around you notice no one is around so you climb up the table in front of the pictures and shakily stand up.
The picture frames are huge so you have to stretch yourself out when you hear someone.
"Excuse me Miss," the voice comes from behind you startling you. A gasp escapes you and you pull away from the picture. You lose your balance.
"Nooo," you scream when two strong hands grip your waist and push you back up, balancing you back on the table.
"Oh dear, I'm sorry about grabbing you," the man steps away from the table. You stare at him trying to calm your breathing.
"Sorry? No, sir! Thank you." You give him a smile.
"I just wanted to asked where your gym was located."
"Ah," your phone chimes letting you know that you need to take your lunch. "I have some time I can walk you over, if you like?"
"If it's no bother," the man offers you his hand but you shake your head.
"Step back sir," he does as you ask and you lower down and hop off with ease.
You walk him down the hall and make a few turns until you're in front of the glass entrance.
"The gym is through those doors."
"Why thank you, you've been so kind." The man gives a sweet smile. "I hope you have a wonderful rest of your..."
"Mr. Hiddleston," Mark comes rushing to us. "I am sorry if she is bothering you. The staff here knows not to be asking for autographs or pictures. My apologies," Mark steps in-between you and the man.
"She wasn't," the man starts but Mark is looking at you.
"Get back to work," he says through tight lips.
"I was not asking for..."
"I said go." Mark barks and you bite your tongue and walk off.
The man says something but you do not hear it as you head to the lounge.
Once in the lounge you notice that you have a missed call and new text from Sandra, your friend.
Girlie, I just saw your bf is with his ex.
She sent a picture of them together. That's him and her clear as day.
I tried calling you but no answer. I'll call you after I'm done with work.
You log into your Instagram and see that his page is gone. You Snapchat him and your messages are pending. He refuses to answer any calls or texts.
You shut your phone off and shove it into your pocket.
"There you are," Mark walks in, he is tonight's manager. "Come on, get back to work. And before I forget please, don't bother our guests."
Fighting through the burning in your eyes you nod and take off.
"I can't believe it," you grunt as you push past the doors, "How can I be so stupid?"
"I don't think you're stupid." The man is coming down the hall with a towel wrapped around his neck. He seems to have had a quick workout.
"Thanks," you nod at him and head back to your assigned area.
"Miss," he calls out and you stop in your tracks.
"What can I help you with?" You force a smile on your lips.
"I just wanted to let you know that I did not mean to cause you any trouble back there," he points back.
"It was no trouble. I'm here to help..." The man takes a closer look at you and you close your mouth and lean back. "What is this?"
"I'm sorry but your eyes," the man looks deeper into your eyes, "Something is the matter?"
"No!" The word burst out of you and you clamp your teeth down quickly.
"I was just stating an observation. My apologies," the man starts walking, "I do hope you have a better night."
"Hey," Mark comes out and sees you talking to the man, "Mr. Hiddleston," he rushes to the man, "Is she bothering you?"
"Actually, she has single handedly made me feel welcomed here. Not overbearing or eager to please. Miss, it was a pleasure running into you again."
"I'm here to help." Mark stares at you with wide eyes as you turn on your heels and head to your area.
Mark has asked for you to rush to the dryers and grab the guest towels. They're being dried at the cleaners since the renovations are not done. On your way back you feel someone staring. You look both ways on the sidewalks but there is no one.
Then you glance up and there he is, once again. The man you have been running into all night.
He seemed to be lost in thought. When he looks down at you, you give him a sweet smile. He has been the only polite and kind person you have encountered today.
The rest of your night goes off without a hitch.
As you are ready to punch out as the sun is slowly rising. The early birds are coming out of their rooms. Some for work, others for a run or workout, and a few to get breakfast.
Mark surprisingly wishes you a great rest of your day.
You walk out and are surprised to see a crowd of people.
"I can't believe he's here."
"I hope he asks me to kneel!" A teenage girl squeals as she rushes into the crowd.
Who's here?
"Miss," that familiar voice comes from the pit of the crowd. "Excuse me a minute," the man from the hotel emerges out of the crowd.
"Me?" You point to yourself while you look around.
"You." He looks at you for a moment, "Are you done with your shift?" You nod. "Can you tell me a great place that serves tea and a great breakfast?"
"The hotel has a variety of fruits and pastries and they can make you whatever tea you like."
"I wanted to see if you would like to join me for breakfast. Since I did make you have a hard time last night. My treat."
"Um," you look at him and at the bewildered crowd. "I—"
"You can feel free to say no."
"Tom," someone screams and he glances back. "Give me a minute."
"Sure." You shrug you honestly do not want to go home just yet.
Tom returns to the crowd and signs posters and takes pictures. The smile on his lips never wavers as his fans ask him to kneel or recite some lines.
Once he is done he comes over to you. You sit staring at your phone.
The screen asking you a question just waiting for a Okay or Cancel.
"Ready?" Tom asks.
"Yes." You press okay and the contact is deleted.
"I know this place that has an amazing breakfast..."
"Lead the way," he gestures.
Nothing but heavy breathing. Too much saliva. Did this girl even know how to properly kiss? Nonetheless, he was hard.
How the fuck did I get here, he ponders, feeling nothing but lusty guilt and, possibly, bile in the back of his throat.
“You’re so hot,” Jennie drawls between kisses, fiddling drunkenly with Jimin’s zipper and whining when the damn thing wouldn’t budge. She resorts to palming his bulge over his black ripped jeans.
“Pretty girl,” he compliments, nudging himself into her small hand and groping her breasts. He’s been with enough girls to tell that her bra was incredibly padded. The party raged downstairs, screams and laughter vibrating the entire frat house. American parties were crazy, Jimin thought.
He also thought he was done with this, done being some gross playboy that entitled himself inside any girl he laid eyes on, but he was fucking scared. You scared the living daylights out of him. So he’s doing what he knows best.
The girl was already stripped down to her underwear within the first minute, not really into the whole “build-up” that he normally enjoyed. When he busied himself with planting kisses along her collarbones, she complains, yet again, when he doesn’t get on with it.
He rolls his eyes, undoing the damn zipper himself and pulling down his boxers enough for her to access. She gasps, surprised.
“You’re Korean? I’m surprised you’re this big. I didn’t believe the other girls when they told me.” She talks so damn much, Jimin might implode. Rather, he just grows soft from the backhanded compliment.
This was his first night out since seeing you last, have been avoiding you for a few days to try to find some sort of explanation behind his jumbled thoughts. It, however, wasn’t his first night out since he had discovered he was hopelessly in love with you, hiding his denial by hooking up with whoever was prettiest at frat row parties. He was disgusted with himself.
Before he knows it, he’s tucking himself back in and leaving an angered Jennie and searching for Yoongi to drive him back home. Jimin was way too intoxicated to be around girls that want to use him for the sake of bragging rights. You were right, it really was like everyone kept tabs on who got to fuck who and the points they received for such encounters. He scrunches his nose in disgust.
He moves clumsily, nearly tumbling down the stairs and getting lost in the sea of bodies that danced on the first floor. God, he could hear colors. He even bumps into some classmate (wearing a hoodie at that, poor girl must’ve been baking), tiny voice asking if he’s okay and he just throws up a thumb and continues his search. At some point, he finds Yoongi man-spread on the couch, sleepily cooing into some girl’s ear as they giggle like they care what he’s saying.
“Yoongs,” Jimin slurs, “home. Please.” He doesn’t remember if he makes a face of friendly obedience or a face of you-just-cockblocked-me-bro but he gets up anyway and checks for his keys for at least two minutes before finding them on a lanyard around his neck. Even Yoongi is too drunk to drive but he doesn’t really care about their own safety at this point. Harsh reality of college.
Eventually, both of them stumble into their apartment around 2 in the morning, Yoongi raiding the pantry for something to calm his munchies and Jimin rinsing his face with cold water next to him. He felt the sudden need to wash off whatever filth Jennie left on him.
His roommate must’ve read his mind, nudging his shoulder and slurring a, “I’m surprised you didn’t fuck Jennie or bring her back with you. She was sexy as hell.”
“How did you know I didn’t have sex with her when I was there?”
“Dude, I can just tell. You don’t look like you had a recent orgasm, you look like you ate a bad quesadilla.” Yoongi laughs at his own joke like it’s the funniest thing he’s ever said.
Jimin shrugs, not really feeling an explanation. Instead, he locates his phone he left on the counter before going to the party and turns it on, scrolling through a couple Instagram notifications and 2 new messages from you. He hadn’t been answering any, but he was happy you still cared in his own messed up way.
He smirks at them, imagining how much better his night could’ve gone if you had been with him instead of stupid Jessica. Or Jennie. Or something.
“Ooh,” Yoongi teases, stealing his phone and uninvitingly reading through the message thread, “you’re still talking to this girl? The cheerleader? That’s hilarious, dude, she’s so not your type.”
Jimin laughs nervously, colliding with Yoongi and reaching out for his phone, “C’mon, Hyung. Give it back. She’s hot.” Calling you “hot” didn’t sit right on his tongue, but he ignored it. Yoongi continues being a dick, waving his phone in Jimin’s face then swiping it away when he attempts to take it back.
“Can’t get enough of her, huh? Does she just have Class A pussy? Shit, think you’d let me have a go?”
Jimin’s blood boils, shoving Yoongi into the nearby wall with more force than intended and confiscating the phone, shuffling it into his back pocket before grabbing his collar and trapping him. He looks maniacal, nose flaring and eyes bloodshot.
“Talk about her like that and I’ll break your skinny ass legs, Hyung. Don’t fucking touch her.”
Yoongi just smiles, throwing up hands as a white flag. He was older than Jimin, sure, but he knew his place when it came to physical advantage. When Jimin lets him go, Yoongi takes out his pack of cigs, placing one between his lips and offering a cooling Jimin one as peace offering.
Although he doesn’t want to, he takes it and storms into his room.
What the actual hell is he doing. He shouldn’t be out partying of all things, he should grow the fuck up and confront you. Just accept what you were willing to give him and live happily, wholeheartedly.
That’s it. Tomorrow, he would sober the fuck up and tell you.
He flops onto his bed, staring at the ceiling and foggy memory reminding him of when he was under yours, the first day he took initiative to change something. He pulls his phone out, reading over your messages silently and smiling whenever he skimmed over one of your purposefully-unattractive-but-still-attractive selfies. He always saved every single one of them.
It leads to scrolling through his small photo gallery, a couple of blurry photos from tonight his most recent, a few of those saved selfies before them, and that one video. Thumb hovering over, it forces him to play it.
It starts with giggling—his own, before the shaky camera focuses on a body behind the front counter of a record store that he happened to pass by. Some American song he’s never listened to blares overhead, a very excited and very loud singing you swaying your hips to the music. At some point, you even used a rolled up poster as your mic and hit every sour note there was. Jimin in the video laughs again, and the video shortly ends after your eyes widen in horror and connect with his phone.
He plays it two, no, three more times before he’s content and completely simmering in adoration for you. Somehow remembering to discard his pants and shut off the light, he decides to browse through his Snapchat briefly before turning in for the night. He saves your story for last, preparing himself for whatever uniform mirror pic you took (although, he secretly loved that bright ass uniform).
You posted four hours ago, grainy photo depicting you and a friend with red solo cups near your faces and white, toothy smiles shining brightly. For some odd reason, you’re wearing one of your gray cheer hoodies despite the warmth, hood barely revealing your right eye in the photo.
Jimin practically chokes, shooting up from his bed and trying so damn hard to recollect his memories before leaving the party.
“Fucking hell. Fuckfuckfuck.”
He didn’t just bump into some “classmate” wearing a hoodie, he bumped into you.
Three days. Three, unfulfilling, dreadful, and, quite expected, days since you were at Jimin’s. You patiently waited, gathering up every cell in your body and lecturing them to persevere and not force yourself back to his home in an angered blob of psychotic mess.
You went to class, you came back to your room, slept, went to cheer, and slept more. All in that order. You’d hope you would run into him at class and at least read his face, see what kind of state he was in and gather enough intel to come to some sort of conclusion—it was the uncertainty that made you nervous—but he never showed up. In your eyes, it was a simple yes or no, but it would also be wrong of you to rush a mental argument that wasn’t your own.
It worried you even more that he was skipping class because of it. Although he might not look it, he was very much into his studies and wouldn’t just play hooky out of nowhere. Which then made you wonder if there was something else that was bothering him, completely irrelevant to your own situation. Which then made you ballistic.
Maybe you were overthinking this. Maybe everything was fine and he truly just did need some time to himself and who were you to judge him for making a clear, healthy decision?
You slick your slightly sweaty hair into some abomination of a ponytail, having just gotten out of mandatory conditioning and exhausted beyond belief. It was barely reaching eight in the evening but the California sun was already set, majority of the day warmth creeping out and being replaced with a satisfying breeze.
The door squeals, Sara giving you a sympathetic smile on her way in. She knew the gist of what was going on, and you thanked the roommate process for giving you such an understanding gal that kept her “told you so” urges at bay.
“How you holding up? Did you go to cheer?” She lugs her backpack, which seems heavier than normal, upon her bed.
You shrug, “I went to cheer. I’ll probably just turn in soon.”
“That’s the thing,” she starts, unveiling a large bottle of Ciroc from her bag, “I think you should reconsider your plans for tonight.” Sighing audibly, you start to climb into bed to show your reluctance.
“Look, Sara, it’s really nice of you to—”
“No, Y/N, listen. You’ve been sitting around moping because of him and if he’s going to make you wait for his own goddamn approval then you can at least have some fun in the meantime. I even bought this extremely special bottle of vodka so we don’t have to drink cheap shit at Alpha Sig’s and—”
“You’re seriously trying to drag me to a party? Sara, I’m really not in the mood to be around drunk people and I haven’t even showered and what if Jimin texts me and I just don’t know,” you trail on and on, biting your nails out of habit and shoulders hanging in defeat.
“Hey,” your roommate coos, “don’t be such a worrywart.” She takes authority to untangle your hair from its hair-tie, smoothing it out with her own brush and braiding a random strand on the thicker side of your part line. Warning you prior, she sprits your face with some makeup-guru refresher spray and hands you her Chapstick.
“You look pretty, literally all the time. You don’t even have to change since it’s just a random party. Wear your stinky cheer hoodie and your spandex and throw on your sneakers and,” she pauses to unscrew the lid to the Ciroc, “take a swig of this and we’ll just go for a couple hours.”
Deep down, you knew she was right. You were obsessing to a whole new level and just needed to chill out. That, and you did owe her some obedience after disregarding her last warning. You brought the glass to your lips, burn barely stinging down your throat from practice (and high quality vodka) and waiting patiently as Sara touches up her own makeup. She even throws on a ratty t-shirt, presumably to make you feel better and you wanted to cry from how good of a friend she turned out to be.
“Ready?” she peeps, packing the bottle, her phone, and her wallet back into her bag.
You hesitate; what if Jimin really was going to call you tonight?
So what if he did? You can’t wait around like his dog, at his beck and call only when he deems it “time”. To hell with that, you were still your own person and if worse comes to worse, you’d get back to him when you’re free.
“Ready.”
You’re fuzzy by the time you get to the Alpha Sigma house, Sara dedicating her night as DD and stopping you after another two shots in the car. You’re both flurried with greetings all the way to the kitchen, some faces you even recognize from cheer and you laugh at the irony of it all. Even Suzy was here, slinging her arm around your shoulders and sloshing some of her beer onto your hoodie.
“Shit, sorry. I think I filled this cup way too much. Wanna half it with me? ‘S just beer,” she giggles, dumping half of it somewhat messily into another solo cup and handing it to you before you can even nod.
“Are you ‘kay? By the way? Seem sad at practice,” Suzy pouts, sipping on the beer and scrunching her nose from its bitter taste.
You snort, “I’m fine. Just some boy problems, I guess. I don’t really know if this guy likes me or not? I mean, he does, but I don’t know. I’m rambling,” you awkwardly laugh. Suzy doesn’t mind one bit, hanging onto every incoherent word with a look of suspicion.
“Y/N, everyone likes you! You just need to bite back, you know? Guys don’t like apples they can pick from the ground, they like the ones in the trees!”
“… Wait, what?”
“I think she means that if you make him work for you, he’ll be more interested than someone who’s just pining after him,” Sara translates, obviously very entertained by two drunk girls trying to solve a problem.
“Yeah! That’s what I said,” Suzy pouts, “Anyway, gimme your phone!”
You don’t know why but you do. Why are you always giving people your phone without asking why they need it first? She goes straight for Snapchat, reaching the phone around your face again and posing with her beer; you do the same, replacing most of your face with your cup.
“No,” she whines, “you have to show how pretty you look and how much fun you’re having so he gets interested in what you’re doing.” You try again, cup below your lips as you flash a bright smile, one that reaches your eyes. In the midst of it all, the camera shutters and you and Suzy study it.
Perhaps it was from the drinks, but you glow in the picture with a reddened nose and your hoodie covering one of your eyes, the motion in the shot giving it character. You looked like the epitome of fun.
“This one’s perfect,” Suzy says, typing in a flurry of horrendous emojis as the caption and sending it to your story. “You’ll hear from him in no time,” she assures.
The rest of the night goes as planned, beer pong and dancing and holding Suzy’s hair as she dry heaves into the toilet but going for another round when nothing comes up. You feel relieved for the first time this week, actually.
Eventually, you lose Sara in the crowd so you venture around by yourself, talking to a few acquainted faces and finally settling in a corner of the living room for a quick breather. Pulling out your phone, a flash of mint crosses the horizon and a sense of familiarity piques your interest. Locking eyes on the source, you find Yoongi sitting on the couch opposite of you, completely absorbed in a conversation with some petite girl with various piercings sprawled on his lap. Your stomach clenches.
If Yoongi was here, there was a large chance Jimin was, right? Instead of asking him, you scramble to get as far away from his presence as possible, tripping over chairs and a coffee table and rugs until you round a corner as quickly as possible and—
“Ah,” a voice grunts, thumping back into the nearby wall from the collision.
“I-I’m sorry, are you okay?” you mumble, pulling your hoodie back on for safety and making eye contact with the man’s open fly. He just throws up a thumbs-up as response, far too drunk to pull together a sentence, let alone an apology.
You realize, now, that this man wears all-black, smelling of cigarette smoke and a little of women’s perfume, and your heart plunges when you see Jimin’s profile as he maneuvers his way past you.
You worried for days on end about him, and he was just partying? Was he fucking joking? He didn’t even recognize you, he was so plastered.
Slumping your back against the same wall, your brain is surprisingly calmer than you expect. You couldn’t judge him when you were at the same party, he probably needed to let loose too.
“Jennie! Where the hell did you go? I’ve been lookin’ for you for, like, twenty minutes!”
Suddenly sensitive to the overall volume of the party and obnoxious girls, you start to turn to find Sara.
“Chill out, Em. Was trying out that new transfer student for a ride,” her saccharine voice purrs. You whip your head in horror.
“He was fun, sure as hell lived up to the expectations,” she continues.
“No shit, you were with Park Jimin?” her friend, supposedly Em, squeals.
You don’t hear Jennie’s answer, tears stinging hot down your cheeks and legs wobbly as you search the downstairs for Sara. She takes you home without asking what happened.
It was a lot better than you thought it was going to be.
The pain, you mean. And the small dosage of utter humiliation that followed the next day. It wasn’t even that big of a deal once you thought about the Grand Scheme of Things; you got rejected, in a shitty way sure, but it was just a rejection. You knew that eventually you would move on once your classes switched and you would hear about Jimin way less and you’d find someone else to focus your attention on and all would be numb and forgotten.
Sara prodded for an explanation, knowing there was some sort of trigger to cause you to sob on her shoulder in drunken defeat and tearing her away from the party before it was even close to being over. For majority of her questions, you dodged them entirely and instead apologized for the nuisance you caused her. And in all honesty, you weren’t quite sure if you could handle trying to break down and reimagine the events that occurred that night. It would be agonizing.
But it was a lot better than you thought it was going to be.
She left you after a while, having her own life to deal with and albeit, school. Today left a great opportunity for you to catch up on some studying for midterms, contemplating popping (a healthy intake of) Adderall but forcing yourself to focus by your own will. You got a lot finished, feeling refreshed and fully capable by 5PM.
Then you got antsy. For once, cheer wasn’t on the schedule and as much as you should rejoice in your occasional freedom, you feel the need to run. Drain the excess stress and energy you have by a quick pop-in at the gym.
Deciding for it, you jump out of bed and aggressively chuck on your sneakers—the same ones you wore last night. Hell, you didn’t even change from last night, wearing the same hoodie and shorts that you had worn to cheer yesterday. You were absolutely disgusting.
You leave everything but your keys, deciding you didn’t want any distractions or had a need to bring anything else because all you could think about was to runrunrun. You even run down the hallways, zipping down the stairs and bursting through the doors like some sort of madwoman. Stopping a few feet outside, it’s the first time you’ve really looked, nonetheless been, outside today. It surprises you more than anything that it’s raining of all things, droplets big and heavy and creating dark spots on your grey sweatshirt.
“Tough luck in sunny-ass California, eh?” you ask yourself. It wasn’t as rare of an occurrence in the northern half, but the irony of it all really put a damper on things. You abruptly realize that you stand in it for quite some time, letting the fat drops soak your shoulders and the humidity make your skin sticky.
From someone else’s view, this was probably some dramatic moment for the protagonist to break down crying and the love interest, in this case it was asshole-Jimin, would unexpectedly pop out of nowhere to dry their tears. But you weren’t crying and this wasn’t some poorly filmed soap opera. Jimin wouldn’t come begging for your forgiveness and you would just get wet from the rain out of spite, and maybe because you’re a little dumb.
Actually, you thought, this is a whole lot worse.
Then, you’re fucking angry. Your feet move before you can properly deduct your best options, carrying you the total opposite way from the gym. You even go as far as to jog, rounding corners without slowing and completely leaving the campus, hoping you remembered the directions right.
To hell with what Jimin thinks. If he’s too coward to face you, then you’ll do the damn thing yourself.
One, two, three houses down. You don’t even really know where you’re going, reversing a few steps and rerouting down different blocks and while getting completely drenched by the rain. Was it hailing now? Not possible.
You’re honestly about to give up before you see that goddamned mint-colored head poking out from a porch, a small dot of orange extending from his lips and you have the urge to rip the cig from his mouth and chuck it. So when you get close enough, you do.
“What the hell?” but he only eyes you with indifference. He kinda reminds you of a cat.
“Is he home?” Yoongi nods, face only lifting in recognition once he makes contact with the cheer hoodie.
“Great,” you smile, shoving past him and through the open front door. You don’t know why the hell Yoongi is smoking outside in the first place, because the whole house reeks and is hazy beyond belief. But when your eyes land on him, you see clear as day.
Jimin has a cigarette of his own drooping from his lips, nearly spitting it out when he stumbles to stand straight in front of you.
“Y-Y/N, what’re you doing here? What the hell happened?”
You don’t understand the entirety of his second question until you hear the tiniest of droplets on his hardwood floors, quickly examining the damage in which how wet you were, then totally disregarding it altogether. You probably looked feral with second day clothes, puffy red eyes and a tangled mop in exchange of hair, but at this point, you didn’t give two damns.
“Give me time? ‘Give me time’? What kind of pathetic excuse is that? How completely dense do you have to be to not even have the strength to tell me the truth? You win, Jimin, I’m not your type nor am I as hot and ready as Jennie, okay? If I’m too much of this preppy bitch you constantly view in your eyes, then leave me the fuck alone! Continue to dangle yourself in front of every girl’s hungry face, for all I care. Just don’t act like you care when you lack any human emotion thereof and don’t,” you snap your arm away when he reaches for it, “include me in this little circus act of yours anymore.”
You come up for air, running your hands through your soaked locks and laughing like some sort of psycho. For the first time today, the weight that lingered on your chest is lifted. This was, like, some enlightenment type shit.
Jimin looks like he’s on the verge of crying or slapping you across the face, if the two could relate somehow. He knew this would happen sooner or later, drowning himself in packs of Marlboro’s to ease the guilt from his mind. Even worse, seeing you in person and seeing you so filled with hatred was making him fall even more in love with you, if it was possible. His thoughts were facetious, wanting nothing more than to engulf you in his arms and keep you here, with him. It was a little late for that.
You pipe up again only to die down, eyebrows knit together in concentration of what your next move was. Instead, you let your true emotions show in hopes that it kills him. You let your tears fall for the first time that day, lips pressed hard into a line and sighing so slow that your breath shakes. Seeing you like this made Jimin’s stomach plummet.
“You’re not my type either,” you whisper, expecting some sort of response or outburst or at least a fucking attempt of an explanation from him. But you don’t wait forever and you show yourself out the door.
You were pretty good at this whole ignoring game, he had to admit. Only after a certain amount of phone calls, voicemails, and texts (12, 3, and 8, by the way) did you finally go through with blocking his number entirely. You would sit on the exact opposite side of the lecture hall, surrounding yourself with occupied seats so he couldn’t just sit next to you, and practically dodging bodies to leave before he could catch up. He stopped trying that approach when he made accidental eye contact with you during class, eyes filled to the brim in pain and regret and longing to turn back the clock so you wouldn’t have to suffer because of him, it made him sick.
Jimin starts his walk home, had finished utilizing one of the lounges to study for a few hours. Like always, he beelines around the stadium to get to one of the main streets, passing by different athletic groups on the track.
He even sees you on the turf, practicing tumbling passes with the rest of the team, smile plastered on your face when your one friend… Kook, talks to you on the sideline. His heart wrenches, haven’t seen that smile in days. Trying his luck, he jumps over the dividing gate and walks down the track to your area.
You see him eventually, mumbling curses and cowering behind Jungkook even though he can’t completely hide you.
“What the—what’s wrong?”
“It’s him. I don’t want to talk to him,” you whimper, hating confrontation and hating lies even more so. Jungkook grips your shoulders, giving them a squeeze and showing an easing smile.
“I’ll take care of it. Go get some water from your bag,” he assures. You feel like crying for the rare occasion that your teammate, as stubborn as he was, would stick up for you in a time of need, nodding obediently and scurrying off to find your duffel.
Jungkook turns, his best look of intimidation etched onto his toned features and crossing his muscular arms for effect as Jimin walks up.
“I really need to talk to her. I’m not trying to hurt her, just want to clear up some things,” is all Jimin says, overlooking his opponents battle stance.
“We’re in the middle of practice right now. Cheer squad members only. Get lost,” Jungkook growls. Jimin rolls his eyes, ignoring Jungkook’s warning and trying to maneuver around him, instead being met with his beefy shoulder and a final glare of warning, “I said, get lost.”
Without thinking, Jimin rolls up his sleeves, tongue-in-cheek, ready to force his way through and teach this kid to live up to his word. But your eyes meet Jimin’s, worry for your friend apparent and willing an awkward encounter if it means it’ll protect Jungkook. Jimin sighs, backing down immediately and nodding.
“Please, just tell her to give me a call, at least. Sorry for interrupting.”
Jungkook can’t help but feel a twinge of sympathy, waiting until Jimin starts heading back until he calls out, “I will,” and giving him a hard but assertive smile. Jimin wouldn’t be trying so hard to reach out to you unless he really had a reason to.
“What did he say? He looked like he was about to kick your ass,” you prod, searching your teammates for any hint of reaction. He simply shrugs.
“He just requested to talk to you. He wasn’t really being an ass or anything. Actually, just being a little desperate. Are you sure you don’t want to hear what he has to say?” Jungkook asks. He was all for protecting you and valuing your wants more than anything, but he knows from personal experience that guys never try that hard unless they really have the hots for someone.
You worry your bottom lip with your teeth. Deep down, you really wanted to hear him out, hope it was all just a poorly-timed misunderstanding and have him tell you that you were what he really wanted. But then you remembered how unsurprised Yoongi was when he took yet another girl home, and how Jimin flat-out ignored you for days, and that god-awful Jennie that was literal walking evidence of your worst concern.
“No, I don’t want to hear anything he has to say,” you conclude.
Over the weekend, Jimin finds himself stuck in the dance studio for hours, working out all the stress he’s accumulated over this whole thing. He doesn’t even know if he’ll get over it as long as he stays here, contemplating dropping school altogether and going back home to Korea. He shoos away the thought as quickly as it comes, he was just being dramatic.
His muscles heave with every move, exhausted and overworked, yet he perseveres. His limbs beg him to stop, but he pushes himself even harder. Dripping sweat, his toe catches on his other foot and stumbles, floor coming so fast that only his elbows are able to catch the fall in time. The impact shakes his bones and makes him cry out in frustration, but he’s fine otherwise. Jimin rolls onto his back, a bubbling anger rising and tempting him to smash every mirror in this studio that reflects his pathetic self and his pathetic actions that haunt him like an ugly scar. Your face flashes in his mind, some odd sleepless-inducing mirage laughing at him.
He calms.
Flinging his bag over his shoulder, he practically forces himself to leave. More than anything, he needed to sleep and focus on finals that were this following week, not worry about some girl that didn’t even want to talk to him.
On his way, he sees Yoongi’s hair on the opposite side of the quad, coffee in hand and face contorted into a rare smile as he talks to some girl. Jimin, the cockblock that he was, changes his course in hopes of bribing his hyung to take him home.
Jimin didn’t have the sharpest of sight per se but he could pick your face from a crowd in seconds, that same face laughing and smiling at his roommate like you two were best friends now. Perhaps it’s the exhaustion or the utter shock, but he spins right back around and opts to walk home without another thought.
When he gets home, he patiently waits for Yoongi, building a script in his head of the calm questions he’ll ask that will shed some light on what he could possibly be talking to you about. Yoongi was an attractive male himself, and surely wouldn’t give a shit about taking Jimin’s love interest for his own.
The door squeaks open after a short while, Yoongi muttering a short, “I’m home,” and treading to the kitchen. Jimin pops up from the couch and follows him, waiting for Yoongi to stick his head back out from the fridge.
“Shit, dude,” Yoongi jumps at Jimin’s sudden appearance, “prima ballerina is light on his toes.”
“What were you doing talking to Y/N,” Jimin asks without hesitation. Yoongi stares him down, amusement drawn on his face.
“What, are you stalking her now?”
Jimin’s eye twitches, “And are you suddenly interested in cheerleaders now, too? Just tell me what you guys were talking about!” It takes all of his patience to not unleash his pent-up anger on his hyung, knuckles turning white from squeezing his fists.
Yoongi leans against the counter, “Chill. I don’t like her. Accidentally bumped into her, quite literally, and got caught in a conversation.” Jimin internally chuckles, you were so goddamn clumsy.
“You should talk to her, no matter what,” he continues, “I think she’s really hurt right now but she’ll let you soon I bet.”
Jimin wondered if that was true.
Minthead’s words bounced around in your skull. They had been bouncing around throughout the week, even following up to your psych final. You took Friday’s final opening as there were too many students in the class for the professor to monitor and, honestly, it gave you more time to procrastinate on studying. Not that it mattered, you couldn’t focus anyway.
What you didn’t find surprising, no thanks to Lady Luck, was that Jimin picked the same day as you. He waved and smiled upon seeing your arrival, in which you rolled your eyes and sat near the back corner. Jimin, having enough of this game, collects his things and travels all the way across the lecture hall to plop down two seats away from you.
“Cheating, are we, Mister Park?” the professor eyes him with suspicion worn down with fatigue.
“N-No, sir.” Jimin clears his throat, whispering to you without his notice, “Look, we need to talk. I’m not letting you leave until you hear what I have to tell you.”
“Oh, so you’re blackmailing me now?” you spit.
“Don’t be stubborn. You don’t have to forgive me, you just need to hear my side of the story so we can both feel at ease,” he chooses his next words carefully, “although, I don’t want you to hate me, if I can help it.”
“No more talking, turn in your packet in the front when you’re done. You may leave when you’re finished,” the professor instructs, handing you both your finals.
You don’t look at Jimin for the remainder of the hour, focusing on the questions as hard as you can with a lingering indecisiveness nagging you in the back of your skull. How could you trust what Yoongi told you? What if Jimin was behind all of what he said in order for you to just be wrapped around his finger again? You were just starting to feel better, back to normal, even.
When you’re finished, you round up your stuff and submit your final. You don’t look where he’s sitting when you exit the hall, but you know he’s watching you leave. The doors shut quietly behind you and your brain fights to come to a decision.
“Forget it,” you mumble, feeling defeated and walking towards the quad.
It takes Jimin an extra 15 minutes to finish writing his answers, his mind whirring and cursing himself for taking so goddamn long, but how was he supposed to focus? Not when you completed it so early and probably left ahead of him. He all but jogs out, looking down each side of the hallway to look for you. He’s not surprised that you didn’t wait.
“Dammit!” he grunts, punching a decent-sized dent in the drywall. People around eye him, whispering words of concern and fear but he doesn’t care. Just paces outside as fast as he can to avoid familiar faces or staff.
“Jimin? Geez, dude, you look like a raging bull,” you call out to him, stepping away from a nearby bench and catching up to his angered frame.
“Y/N? I thought you left,” he exhales with relief, rubbing his bruising knuckles in his other hand, “Does this mean that you’ll talk to me?”
You shrug, eyes catching on his small injury, “I, uh, yeah. What happened? Are you okay?” You pull his hand towards you, brushing away debris from the wall and examining the damage, eyebrows knit in caring concern.
His heart races, how could you possibly touch him right now? How could you prioritize his wellbeing when he’s hurt you so badly? Pulling his arm away, he nods his head towards the bench you came from, “Wanna sit? I’ll make it quick, if I’m interrupting you.”
When you take a seat, several inches away from him for safe measure, you finally get a good look at Jimin for the first time in days. His hair stuck up in every direction and looked slick from grease, his normally dewy complexion pale and dull, and even more, reeking of cigarette smoke. He looked like hell, and even though you shouldn’t, you feel victorious in some way.
“I’m just going to cut to the chase,” he starts, “I get bored of girls really easily. I don’t like being obligated to a relationship because they’re totally bullshit most of the time. And I don’t have the patience for one single person.”
“Great, thanks, Jimin. I’m leaving now,” you say with a sarcastic laugh, starting to stand up until he grabs your wrist.
“But there’s something so different about you. I can’t get you out of my head. You’re pretty, fuck, you’re gorgeous. More than that, you’re strong and smart and not afraid to raise your voice and you’re not this overly-optimistic person but everything you touch is just suddenly so much better and I truly felt like you were doing that to me. You were making me better and pushing me to do what I love and all the more I fell in love with you along the way, but I was scared.” His leg shakes more and more as he continues and you can’t help but stare at his nervous antic.
“I tried so many times to forget you, to convince myself that this was just some,” he whirls his hands in the air, “phase, or something. But it just felt so wrong and I regret ever trying to attempt to do so. But I want to change, I want to love you and I want you to forgive me.”
“That’s a lot to ask for, Jimin. It’s a little too late for that,” you say, voice wavering. You wish you could punch yourself for being so weak in front of him. Or, even better, you could punch him.
“Too late? It’s not too late, baby. Let me show you how good I can be for you. You’re talking about the party, right? And the girl? That was nothing.”
You wince at his nonchalance, “Perhaps it’s nothing to you, Jimin, but the last thing I was expecting was for you to run off and fuck some sorority girl when you were so confused about me. That’s not how this works.”
He looks appalled, “What? You think I fucked someone?”
“I know you did. Some girl stumbling down the same time you did said so when she was talking to the rest of her Jimin fanclub,” you spit. This is where the real test came in.
“I didn’t—no. I didn’t screw anyone that night, oh my god. That’s why you’re so mad at me,” he ruffles his hair, completely dumbfounded, “Okay. I’m going to tell you the truth. I was with that girl, and I was intending to…” Your heart wrenches.
“But I didn’t! We made out a little but it was so wrong so I left before anything real happened and it was really my ah-ha moment that I wouldn’t ever be happy unless it was with you, Y/N. I mean it.”
“How do I know to take your word over hers? If I were to forgive you, how do I know that you won’t do anything stupid again?”
“Unfortunately, you don’t know. I wish I could provide evidence somehow, anything that would ease your mind. All I can ask for is just one more chance and promise you that it’s all I’ll ever need. Take all the time you need to be comfortable with me again, break my heart, literally give me a stick-and-poke of your own name, I don’t care.”
You laugh a little at his exclamation, the air lightening up enough for Jimin to grab your hand with courage. Squeezing a little, you look at him sternly before wriggling your hand out of his grasp.
“I don’t want to get hurt again. I don’t give anyone second chances. It just makes what they did to me okay, and it’s not okay even if you didn’t go all the way. You still hurt me, Jimin.”
His face droops with melancholy, “It’s not okay, it’s not okay at all. But—Y/N. Please. Just make one exception…”
“I—” your eyes well with tears, again, “I don’t know Jimin. I want to but I’m just not sure.” Your flight responses kick in and you hop off the bench.
“I have to go. I have to get to practice and there’s a performance at halftime tomorrow and I just don’t have time for… this.”
“I’m sorry, I promise I won’t bug you anymore but please just think about it. About me.”
You nod and smile feebly, forcing your body away from him as fast as you could without sprinting. You didn’t even have practice for another hour and you’re sure Jimin knew that, but it would only be moments before you dove into his chest and thanked him for coming back, and you didn’t want to be so weak.
Assuring yourself that you’re just overwhelmed and possibly overthinking, you opt to head to the gym, despite being an hour early.
Suzy somehow convinces you to sit out for the game until performance at halftime, not taking your arguments as valid and forcing you to sit under the cheer tent, arms crossed in bitterness. Here you were, now forced to think about all that’s happened while Jungkook bases Nani out of all girls. You didn’t have a problem with her, but Jungkook was your base goddammit.
“Jimin really likes you, and I can vouch for him that he didn’t do anything with Jennie that night. Unfortunately, because of you, he hasn’t been able to do anything. Never brings girls home anymore, hasn’t smoked until just recently. Even told me that he’s into dancing? ‘S weird,” Yoongi chuckled. You laugh with him, unaware that Yoongi has any expression aside from cynical indifference.
“Why are you telling me this?” As much as you appreciated his concern, why the hell did he care?
“Because all he fucking talks about is you. How pretty you are and how he was going to ask you out to a movie and how cute you eat your food? So gross, just give him a pair of used panties already,” he scrutinized.
“He can’t seem to get out of this rut, either. I’m guessing it’s because you’re pretty mad at him,” he admits after a while.
The words play in your head like a broken record, eventually giving you a gnarly headache. You were sure he was telling the truth; intentionally scheming with Yoongi to not tell Jimin of your meeting, hoping both of their stories aligned completely parallel. Jimin even told you things he didn’t need to, things Yoongi left out.
So why were you hesitating?
“Y/N! Time to shine, lazyass. Start stretching,” Jungkook yells, shaking you out of your thoughts. You do as you’re told, stretching briefly while the clock gets closer and closer to halftime. It sounds with a loud, obnoxious tone, and you run out with the rest of the team and the marching band when the football players clear the field.
The rest passes as it always does, your mind fogging out the routine having done it so many times. Suzy calls, Jungkook throws, the band plays alongside and you subconsciously follow along to the counts playing in your head.
Then, the crowd just stops cheering. You all continue, trained to push through no matter the distraction until a horrendous screech fills the stadium, the scoreboard glitching until it switches input to a live broadcast.
Losing your balance and doing the absolute opposite of what flyers should do, you crumple and reach forward to break your fall. You don’t know how, but Jungkook shoves your feet back just in time to bear-hug your waist, preventing an ugly face-plant with the ground.
“Thanks,” you heave, “What the hell is going on?”
“Probably some frat idiot prank, do you think we should just get off the field?”
“Shut it, look,” Suzy interrupts.
“Uhh, I don’t know if this is working,” a voice booms through the stadium, video focusing on some guy in a hoodie as people in the distance struggle to keep people, presumably staff, into the announcing room.
“Oh my fucking god, that’s Jimin,” you whisper, catching Jungkook’s wheeze of surprise with a mutual look of chaos.
“I don’t know how long I’ll have before I gotta skedaddle but here I go: Y/N, the one on the cheer squad preferably, I have severely fucked up. I underestimated you but you were never wrong about me because I am a total asswipe. But I want to prove that you’ve changed me and I want to be your boyfriend and always take half of your portions of food and criticize the American government,” someone yells fuck the government! in the distance to this, “and dance for you and hell, baby, I’ll dance for you and—oh shit.”
There’s a ripple of giggles and whoops throughout the crowd as Jimin darts past someone that attempts to contain him, briefly showing an exasperated face before they switch the scoreboard back to its numbery self.
“I don’t ever think I’d see the day Park Jimin would ever confess his feelings… to a cheerleader… at a televised game,” Suzy speaks between cackling. This would have been mortifying if it weren’t so utterly amusing; your cheeks straining from how hard you’re smiling. Jimin was an exceptional son-of-a-bitch, but there wasn’t really much wrong with letting your naivete get the best of you. If you gave up on every person that caused you trouble, how would you ever know what unconditional love feels like? Because you were pretty damn sure this was it and you didn’t want to give it up.
You love Jimin.
“Oh, here he comes,” Jungkook informs. You both watch as Jimin sprints onto the field, scouting for your eyes among everyone else’s and screeching to a halt in front of you with a shit-eating grin.
“Okay, what’s your answer? Because honestly, we’re not each other’s type at all appearance-wise but I can’t imagine being with anyone else at this dreaded school and if I get suspended without getting something out of this then—”
“Oh my god, Jimin, just shut the hell up, okay? You win,” you roll your eyes and wipe that stupid smile off with a caress to his sweaty face and a planted kiss on his lips. Jimin’s insides explode, either from the kiss or the incredible 4k he just sprinted but nonetheless he’s so fucking in love.
He lifts you off your feet, hugging the remainder of air out of your body and making you squeal.
“I love you, I love you, and I’m so sorry,” he repeats like a mantra, those beloved puppy dog eyes brimming with flickering adoration and regret and relief all at once.
“I—I forgive you. Really, I do. I love you, even if you make me want to shove a pom-pom down your throat,” you cry in happiness. He kisses you one more time, quick but piercing and so right.
The crowd cheers as they watch the display, and oh bologna when you signed up to be a cheerleader you didn’t think you’d catch this much attention, and even more so when Yoongi suddenly runs over with a wireless mic in hand.
“Before we get back to your soccer game, can you just clarify to the audience what you said to this little outburst right here?” He announces with deadpan enthusiasm. You knew that he secretly enjoyed this commotion, probably reveling in it like some odd middle-man that liked to watch his friend’s problems go up in flames.
You hesitantly take the mic, “Yeah, um, I said yes. I said yes and I might be making a mistake but yeah he’s taken, I’m sorry ladies.” What kind of crappily scripted teen movie was this?
You start to hand the mic back to Yoongs, but Jimin snags it and adds a quick, “Uhh last words: Fuck you Jennie, you lying bitch! ‘Kay, enjoy your game.” You choke at the exclamation.
“… Too soon?” You dramatically shrug and make a just a little sign with a pinched thumb and index.
“Jimin, how much did you have to drink to do all this?”
“A little shot for courage is nothing, babe. Oh—evening kind sirs!” Three older, and visibly agitated, teachers grab Jimin by the arm. “I’ll be back, hopefully, I’ll wait for you after the game!”
Waving him off, you return to the sideline before the pack of oblivious football players maul you. You watched his pink mop bob off into the distance, Yoongi soon accompanying him with the rest of his hooligans as they’re scrutinized by the teachers. Chuckling, you ponder how long a relationship you two could pull off, a small part of you hoping it’s deeper than calf love, and a larger bit knowing it is.
a/n: yay! you made it! if you liked it, feel free to let me know or ask any questions to the characters! xx, poppy
Let the date pay
Jikook, 2.8k, crack & fluff
Jungkook’s friend might have said to let the date pay, but that doesn’t mean he should go without his wallet. Because if your date doesn’t have theirs either...then you’re both out of luck.
A/N: Happy birthday to @c-cygnus !! MEARIIE I’M NEVER GONNA FORGET YOU SAID TO LET THE DATE PAY LMAO but here ya go! hope ya like~
Jeon Jungkook was about to commit the biggest crime of his life.
And the worst part was that it could've easily been prevented.
To say that he'd been distracted by his gorgeous date, Jimin, was an understatement. With one flirty message on Facebook, he'd walked out of the house without bringing his keys. With a flirty Snapchat showing off just how stunning this Jimin guy (who claims he really isn't an editorial model) was, Jungkook had just about forgotten his own name.
So it shouldn't really be a surprise that he'd left his wallet at home.
The most ironic part was perhaps the pep talk that his friend, Seokjin, had given him right before he started preparing (read: panicking) over this date. Jimin had picked out a restaurant with a really fancy name, and with Jungkook's wallet connected by a direct feeding tube to his college, he had just gotten some more stress added to the pile of midterms and assignments.
"Calm down, Jungkook. Relax. Chill," Seokjin had said, shrugging as he helped himself to another bag of honey butter chips. "Let the date pay."
Jungkook had simply stared back. "What?"
"It's an expensive place, right? Just let the date pay." He'd hopped onto Jungkook's couch, waving at him like it was obvious or something. "Chivalry is not dead!"
What did he even mean by that? Is that supposed to be an insult? Does he think I'm not manly enough or...?
Jungkook snorts, rolling his eyes at Seokjin. "Like you've ever been on a date."
"Hey!"
So much for a pep talk. Jungkook thinks that he would've been better off without his so called friend over to feed him all these subliminal messages that ultimately led him to this situation.
However, he can't deny that their date was really nice. The location was a prime spot for date night, in a popular area with many other events going on. Despite the way the streets bustled outside with the nightlife, the interior of the restaurant had a much more subdued atmosphere, and Jungkook could see exactly why Jimin had chosen this place.
The soft glow from candle light, the velvety table cloth, a live piano player, and more than enough utensils for his entire squad to use—it was indeed romantic. Maybe much more so than a first date should've been, but all of that just flew out of his head when Jungkook got to see someone as attractive as Jimin in a suit. And dress pants. Very nice dress pants that were tight enough to show the curve of his a—
"Jungkook?"
He's pulled out of his thoughts at the sound of a hesitant voice, and the beautiful owner of said voice is glancing over at him shyly after the mention that he hadn't quite enough cash to cover much of the meal, and—what kind of restaurant doesn't take card?
Either way, it would've been the perfect chance for Jungkook to pull out a wad of cash, mutter keep the change coolly in his totally natural husky voice, and impressed the hell out of Jimin. Which might score him a slighter greater amount of student debt at first, but it would also guarantee him a second and third date, a potential husband, a dad to his kids, a partner in crime to grow old with in a nursing home or something.
Well, in this case, he'd literally just scored himself a partner in crime.
"Umm, yeah. I-I got us covered," Jungkook lies, trying to buy some time until he could come up with a plan of some sort. He doesn't even know what will happen if they're caught. Will they be chained to the restaurant, working endlessly to pay off for their sins? Will they spend the rest of their lives in jail? Will they have to come up with some crazy way to make fast money like smuggling drugs or doing undercover work or modelling for sketchy agencies—maybe Jimin would be good at that one, judging by that a—
"Yeah? I'm sorry about this; I really didn't mean for this to happen," Jimin ducks to avoid his gaze and buries his cheeks in his hands. "Ah, you probably think I'm faking it now. That's fine, I-I don't expect another date."
"No, it's fine, Jimin. Seriously. Well, except for the part where you don't expect another date because you should, but...only if you want to," he hesitates and decides to put in a warning, "after this."
More like, if they aren't getting arrested and then spending the rest of their lives in jail. Maybe Jimin should expect another date because they'd technically be seeing each other every day if they did happen to be escorted off there. They'd really be life-long partners in crime then.
"Really?" Jimin's eyes light up, and that makes Jungkook panic even more because what did he just get himself into? "Yeah, I'd really like that..."
"Me too." Jungkook shoots a smile. Or tries to at least. He doesn't think his eyes cooperate very well with his upturned lips.
Then the bill comes.
He's never been so afraid his entire life, not even when he woke up late on the day of that final exam. Because what was he supposed to do now? The first kind of option would be saying he'd take care of the bill and then making Jimin leave first, and then somehow charm his way out of the situation? Or just run out? Jungkook had always been a fast runner since middle school, but he really didn't want to say that all of the track and field training has just led up to this moment.
The next option would be maybe running out together? But then he would have to actually tell Jimin the truth in that case...unless he pretended to pay for the meal first and then run and say that some crazy waiter was hitting on him or something.
Then there was the last option. Where they didn't necessarily run, because in this case, everyone would be running out of the restaurant. So that meant doing something like pulling a fire alarm, starting a flood in the bathrooms, maybe even 'accidentally' tipping a candle over.
"Um, so, Jimin." Jungkook decides to ask. He's stalling of course, but he sees no way out of this situation as all three options suck, each one more than the last. "How much do you want a second date with me?"
Jimin tilts his head a little, eyes never lingering on Jungkook's for too long. "Hmm, a lot?"
"Is it enough that there would be nothing that could change your mind as of this moment?"
"Well, if you need to fart or something, that's um fine, I guess?"
Jungkook nearly smacks himself in the face. "No, that's not it." He's not sure if he wants to laugh or cry, but either way, there's a wave of deliria just threatening to overwhelm him. "I—uh."
"Did you want to go somewhere else afterwards?"
"No, that's not—I mean yes, sure? Of course! But that's not what I meant."
Jimin, for whatever reason, giggles. "You're cute, Jungkook. I've had a wonderful time so far and would love to get to know you more."
"Well, thank goodness." Jungkook lets out a breath that he didn't even realize he'd been holding. He relaxes in his seat slightly, stuffing his hands into his pockets. Maybe he'll magically find a twenty dollar bill that he'd left in there years ago? Or maybe there was enough spare change to cover—nope. His pockets were completely empty minus the ring he'd taken off earlier for fear that the accessory wouldn't make his outfit formal enough.
But that gives him an idea.
"Wait, so...that means you won't change your mind even after whatever I tell you next, right?"
Jimin gives him a questioning look. "Please don't tell me you've murdered someone."
"I...what?" Jungkook figures that their situation may as well be put into the same type of crime category. "No, I haven't, but I also wouldn't tell someone about that on a first date if I had. Gotta leave some mysteries for the second date, you know?"
A crack of a smile. "What is it then?"
"Oh, um. Can you just please play along with whatever I do next? I promise you I'll treat you to dates for the rest of my life or something."
"Is that a proposal?" Jimin laughs.
"No, but this is."
With one smooth move, Jungkook slips out of his seat and gently goes down on one knee on the soft, carpeted floor in front of Jimin. He takes the ring out of his pocket, holding it up in front of his date all the while being careful not to get too close to him for what if he accidentally touches his thighs or something? Which, as tempting as it sounded, would not do him well in acting out the next few minutes.
But that wasn't even the worst part. The worst was when he had to force himself to gaze directly into Jimin's eyes despite how utterly aghast Jimin looked.
It's completely fine though. At least it still looked like a natural expression for someone getting proposed to.
"Park Jimin." Jungkook's voice cracks already and he nearly gives up on the spot. But he has to pull through, for the sake of keeping the sun over his head instead of some cement cell ceiling.
If he thought the restaurant was quiet, it seems to get even stiller as all the pairs of eyes in the room gravitate towards them at that moment.
"Maybe you realized why I decided to take you here tonight, as it's the place where we met on that fateful date, exactly five years ago. Every time I pass by this place, I get reminded of that pleasant time we had here, and I just think to myself how different our relationship might have turned out, if it had been any other place."
Jungkook stops himself, wondering if that was a little too much flattery for the restaurant. Did it sound too fake, as if he was endorsing them? How do proposals go anyway? It's not like he ever had any experience in that field, or in dating, for that matter. Yet here he is, proposing to somebody on the first date. And even though no part of this was real in any way, Jungkook's hands clam up and the suit feels much too hot with the sweat dripping down the back of his neck.
He decides to move onto the next part of this improvised speech.
"Our anniversary today marks five years of mutual love, support, and growth, and I really wish to be able to spend the rest of my life with you."
He stops, not sure what else to say to try to make it as realistic as possible, then seeing Jimin's slight nod, deciding to add in a touch of truth because that should be more convincing.
"Jimin, you're a great conversationalist who seems to really care for the people around you. You have a great sense of humour, and a love for memes, and not to mention, you look so hot tonight—wait, not that you don't all the time, because you do look really good. So good in fact that you even made me forget my wallet on our first date when you sent me that Snapchat, and um, you could totally be a model if you wanted to. Just saying."
He panics a little inside when he sees all the eyes on him. Which includes Jimin's, glancing back at him expectantly as his mouth quirked up just a little, probably trying to hide his laughter. Wait, what was Jungkook even supposed to say next?
"And just—I'd really love to get to know you more."
"Jungkook..." Jimin shoots him a pointed look, and that's when he realizes his mistake.
"Um, to continue to get to know each other more. Through, uh, marriage. Through the second halves of our lives, together," Jungkook scrambles to correct himself.
There's a shy smile on Jimin's face, a slight tint of red on his cheeks, and to Jungkook's surprise, he replies, "That sounds nice."
"Really?" He says a bit too loudly. Then coughs to cover it up. "So, Park Jimin, will you marry me?"
"Jeon Jungkook. I'd love to."
The ring slides on easily because it's much too big for Jimin's finger, but before Jungkook could even begin to worry about people noticing, Jimin's pulling him up.
And then leaning in.
And then kissing him.
For a moment it's as if the world disappears, despite the way the rest of the room break into applause for them. Perhaps the piano player follows up with a perfect cadence, signifying the success of this event, and maybe a waitress takes a picture of them to give to them later, but Jungkook doesn't hear any of that either.
Heck, he completely forgets about this being a first date because for in that instant, all the emotions just feel too real.
Maybe this really is what it's like in the moment your significant other accepts your proposal, as now all he could feel was the pure happiness running through his veins as Jimin's soft lips meet his in a kiss that couldn't possibly convince him it was their first. The fear from a possible rejection, the relief and joy from Jimin's confirmation—it all makes Jungkook's heart soar with how raw this moment felt, as if they'd really known each other for all that long and were beginning a new stage of their relationship.
"Congratulations to the engaged couple!"
There are people raising their glasses around the restaurant, but when they break apart, all Jungkook could keep his eyes on was Jimin. The soft, loving gaze that Jimin gives him could've won an Oscar if it'd just been acting, but with the glow on his face and fingers just lightly brushing over Jungkook's lips, Jungkook already knows that there'd been something there all too real to be just for this act.
He wanted to kiss Jimin again, to feel so much all at once, but somebody stops by their table and interrupts the moment.
"Congratulations to you both! On behalf of our restaurant, I wanted to take the time to thank you for being our loyal customer and for that, we would like to say that your meals are on the house tonight."
"Really? Thank you so much!" Jimin answers.
It's proof of this having been too real. Because most importantly, it'd been believable enough to pull them out of this situation safely.
"It's a pleasure to have been working with you for the past years. We hope that you lovely couple will continue to be happy and successful."
The rest of their time there turns into a blur, with staff members and strangers from the tables near theirs coming up to congratulate them. The bill gets taken away at some point, and Jungkook is still in a daze up to when Jimin leads him out of the restaurant. By the hand.
It's dark outside and a little chilly, but the warmth of Jimin beside him continues to fuel the embarrassing red on his cheeks. The adrenaline is still pumping through his body in full force so his heart runs fast through his chest and there's hysteria just lingering beneath the surface that makes Jungkook want to do something impulsive like kiss Jimin again. But that can't happen.
"So...so now is when you get to say if you're going to change your mind." Jungkook finally breaks the silence. "You know, from what you said before. Because I screwed up so bad, I know."
They come to an alleyway between two buildings, far enough from the restaurant that they can discuss without having to worry about someone coming for them.
"But please don't hate me?" Jungkook squeaks.
"Hate you?" Jimin sounds surprised, before breaking off into intense laughter. "Jungkook, this was the best first date I've ever had."
"Seriously? We could've been, I don't know, arrested or something! What if the plan hadn't worked? We would've been spending the rest of our lives in jail for dine and dash instead of spending it on more great dates."
"You know, maybe we should do this thing again sometime. It was cute seeing you propose like that," Jimin giggles. "I don't think I've ever heard so many compliments from the self-proclaimed bad boy, Jeon Jungkook."
Jungkook looks away, cheeks heating immediately. "So that means you'll actually be willing to go on another date? After all this craziness?"
"Yeah, didn't you promise to treat me to dates for the rest of our lives?" Jimin raises an eyebrow. "I mean, I agreed to marry you too, so I'm expecting a lot of free dates."
"O-oh. Okay. That's great. Yeah."
"Though next time, Jungkook, maybe I shouldn't send you a picture of me before the date."
They never did the whole proposal thing again until five years later, when they received their second free meal at that exact restaurant.
Where to find the Perfect Smartphone for your Young Adults
My toddler is going to be 2 years old, and his most liked plaything is undoubtedly my iPhone 10. I stash it almost everywhere: behind plush teddy bears, among books, inside boxes. He locates it each time and runs up to all of us, holding it in his very small fist and moans every time I said no, he falls onto the floor and cries. Maybe it's more serious, I believe. A few weeks back, was his turn to stash your cell phone. Right until somewhat recently, it was suggested that adults avoid showing children under 2 displays of any kind, including television, iPads, or phones. In 2017, it somewhat eased the guidelines. We violated this rule a long time ago. I do not keep in mind whenever we first cradled an iPhone before his face, but during the last couple of months, we've viewed in horror as my son has developed a full-blown dependence on phones, long before he's actually old enough to possess one. Over the last decade, very much continues to be written about the fantastic screen time debate: how often should our children come in contact with screens, and at what age? As recently as Oct 2016, a paper published an attribute that decorated a dark eyesight of children and screens, having a estimate from a Facebook professional assistant saying that only poor stuff lurks in our devices. Immediately after researching the story, we went into 100 % panic mode and implemented a rule inside our house where no one is allowed to give our boy a smartphone. For the time being, this has kept the devil at bay. Nonetheless, I understand there should come a period when I'll yield towards the inevitable and purchase my son his first mobile phone. The possibility already makes me stressed. Regarding to a 2014 record, 72 percent of children between the age groups of 13 and 16 possess their own phone, whilst a 2018 study signifies that nearly 44 percent of children get their own cell phone program between the ages of 10 and 12. In connected homes people with a lot more than 3 gadgets, kids get their first tablet if they are 6 years of age, and their first phone at age seven. Nowadays, many adults are having tech in youngsters' hands when they can hold them. But when it comes to what kinds of phones parents should actually buy their kids, the market offers hardly any options: There is no iPhone equal for children, and there by no means has been. Generally, kids are stuck with their parents' hand-me-down smartphones, as well as the responsability is definitely on the mother or father to install the required parental controls. Therefore, why hasn't the sector profitably produced a telephone for children? And if it did, what would such a device actually look like? Although couples tend to be shamed for utilizing monitors to amuse their little children or watch over them by proxy, many people will concur that giving their a child a mobile phone is also part and parcel of being a responsible parent in 2019. In a ideal world, a smart cell phone for young children ought to be mainly because strong as is possible, probably it would have some way to text when there is a school crisis or some other type of unexpected emergency, or not really allow them to carefully turn off their navigation or delete messages. Others claim that such a device should be social media-free. No photo no internet is the point we kept hearing from adults. Without a camera or connection, kids are unable to take selfies or engage with social networking, two activities parents are eager to control. Even though tablets have been effectively marketed to teens, efforts to develop cell phones for young kids have nearly universally failed. https://www.digit.in/top-products/best-nokia-phones-in-india-14.html We've seen a whole lot of mobile phones for children over the years and they're all junk. In 2014, one young kids' tech business unveiled the Kurio Android phone, that was designed to operate and appearance just like an adult cell phone, although with safety features and usage limitations to hide all scenarios. While pretty bland-looking, the telephone had almost everything an anxious mother or father would've dreamed of: it blacklisted 415 million internet sites, allowed parents to remotely view text messages and call logs, and provided period limits in apps long before Apple introduced similar features. It actually included a customizable in case there is emergency form, featuring the child's allergic reaction information and blood type. Later in 2017, VTech, a toy business, launched the KidiBuzz, a cellphone for kids between the age groups of 3 and 10 that allows kids to receive and send texts, photographs, and voice messages. The kids smartphone was a marvelous flop and it was forgotten the same year it was introduced. The machine was costly to manufacture, but as it was not top quality, it could not be marketed at an effective price, it was not Samsung or Apple, and the age group the cellphone was targeted at, pre-tweens/tweens, is very brand and look-self-conscious. In the mean time, the KidiBuzz provides 32 percent one-star reviews about Amazon, with 1 commenter noticing that it doesn't even make a fine paperweight. Area of the concern with child-focused phones is functionality: many of these devices occupy an amorphous grey space among a toy and tool. The KidiBuzz, for example, gives features like games and applications, but does not actually allow users place phone calls. Adults searching for wise smartphones for children on Amazon may also run into dozens upon dozens of nonfunctional play telephone items, gadgets that look like cell phones but are in fact toys that come equipped with different ringtones and blinking lights. One more added challenge is that products marketed mainly because kid-friendly, have an integral expiration time. There's not a lot of activity taking place in the child-specific space, because it simply doesn't scale well. You're discussing a very small segment from it: kids age range 5 to 10 or 7 to 14, etc. And it's really actually even smaller than that, simply because at a certain age I don't think children want the particular phone. They want the same gadget you are using. By and large, the truth is the devices people want to use are the devices from the big manufacturers. So why build some thing that is motive-built and a single model of these devices when you could fundamentally consider any manufacturer's design and work with a parental handles app to help control that? Still, there is true anxiousness around giving developing kids access to products that are nothing lacking addictive to grown adults. And even more research has surfaced linking unnecessary screen time for you to, among other things, depression, reduced sleep, and speech postpone in newborns. All which has pushed a small number of entrepreneurs to make option solutions for kids. The main issue with offering young adults phones, is that, for insufficient a better term, it's such an attractive, glossy device, you want to download games, open the web. That's almost natural to the telephone. I feel it even myself in my cellphone. It is a very powerful issue. https://www.zdnet.com/article/lenovo-rolls-out-new-ideapad-laptops-chromebooks-budget-android-tablets/ The first iteration of the Light Phone was designed to be used less than possible: it might place phone calls, and mainly nothing else. The impending Light Phone 2 will also allow users textual content. It is among a small number of entries in the minimalist, or dumb telephone movement, which was spurred by an evergrowing concern about cellphone dependency. Although not designed for kids, the Light Phone has gotten significant amounts of attention from couples with children. Couples with children struggle with this problem: they want a smart phone so their child can contact them within an crisis, but Snapchat really scares all of them. The Jitterbug, which features a good sized screen and larger type, is another dumb cellphone typically cited as a good option for young kids - though it was developed for elderly people. The Jitterbug can place telephone calls and receive and send texts; at significantly less than $50 for the flip smart phone version, it is also considerably cheaper than the Light Phone 2, which includes not delivered out however but happens to be priced at $290. Some producers are bypassing cell phones altogether by entering the wearables market. GizmoWatch, for example, enables couples to track their children' specific location and provides alerts if they enterprise outside a specific radius; in addition, it lets young children text and make calls to up to 10 friends on the preprogrammed contact list, permitting parents in which to stay touch using their kids while curbing their screen time. Without technically a wearable (though you can hook it to clothes using a carabiner-like accessory), the Relay, an identical to walkie-talkie gadget, is an additional entry in the kids' technology space. The device presents itself being a middle ground for much less tech-savvy parents who are concerned about display period, but don't desire to navigate the complicated world of parental control apps. There's no way to watch an undesirable YouTube video or search for something unacceptable using the smartphone, because there's no display. Though devices just like the Relay and the GizmoWatch also appear to be exactly what they are: products for children. And that could be a issue. There's always some chance with wearables, but I am just a little reluctant to say they're gonna be a big seller. The demand compared to alternate options is such that the effect is commonly fairly limited. I could get my child a kid smartwatch, that they may or may not wear, or I can provide them with a phone. Smart watches, are not gonna replace mobile phones for teens. Kids want more. They are inundated with messaging to stay connected frequently. This is the world children are growing up in. With out better answers, couples with children are largely trapped passing off their worn out iPhones or Androids or buying an old mobile phone, which in turn still costs you hundreds of dollars. There's only a certain comfort level there because that is what father and mother have always used. Handing down our previous smartphones is normally low-cost and the parental settings work fairly well. Kids aren't some particular animal that want special tools with regards to cell phones. They may be little human beings, and I prefer to respect them when it comes to tech. And rather than creating services, producers have begun adding features to create their adult-oriented items more kids-friendly. Apple's new iOS 12 parental adjustments include a Display Time feature, that allows you to create period limits for particular applications and monitor how much period they're shelling out for their mobile phones. Google has introduced Google Family Link, a free of charge app that allows parents to monitor their children' screen time as well while remotely lock their gadgets if they are spending a lot of time using them. All these application work-arounds aren't perfect - kids are apparently hacking Apple's Screen Time simply by changing the time setting on their device, but they're a recognition that kids of a certain age want to possess a similar thing everybody else has. And if everybody else has an iPhone or an Android, many will not accept anything less.
Yet ultimately the anxiety parents experience around what sorts of devices to buy their teens and when can also be a means of projecting worries about our own complicated romantic relationships with cellphones. The answer may possibly not be finding the right device for our kids, but wrangling our own impulses, especially because plenty of experts say that couples with children who are overly distracted by their devices are establishing behavioral issues in their young kids. Little Children can do what you carry out, not everything you tell them to do. You must model great digital habits. In fact, a 2016 study found that although 77 percent of couples with children thought they were modeling great screen behaviors for his or her kids, these were spending typically nine hours per day with their displays, far more time than their young kids were. When I noticed that I had been spending far more time scrolling through my e-mail and Twitter than I was playing on the floor with my child, I understood that the problem wasn't with screens warping his vulnerable brain. It had been that I'd currently allowed my phone to bend mine. So these days, we do not use our phones at all before our son. This is a habit that can be easily designed for later years and really depends on the couples with children to keep our teenagers away from mobile phones before they understand responsibility.
Mei wasn’t lying when she said that Arthur would be able to release a new album and have more collaborations with popular artists in the coming year.
After the EMAs, the young Brit was getting calls from all various singers (that he, unbeknownst to them, was a fan of) wanting him to produce songs for them and for him to release remixes of their songs.
And of course, Mei immediately accepted most of the requests that came, wanting Arthur to be able to launch a new album that coming year so that he could win this year’s title of number one DJ in the world at the DJ Magazine Top 100.
Even though Arthur didn’t win any of the awards, winning an award from MTV wasn’t exactly a DJs number one goal. And surprisingly, a winning a Grammy is not something that most people in the EDM scene would prioritize (even though it would be a big deal to win one). Everyone knows that there are two important events that really helps determines one’s success in the industry: the first is being invited to the DJ Awards in Ibiza and winning a title from one of their categories. Last year, Arthur was able to secure a title of Best Newcomer, which really helped his brand and helping him get booked to more festivals and events than he previously had when he was still working up the ranks. If he doesn’t win an award that year there, it would be the fact that he was invited to such an exclusive event that would really help him connect with other exclusive producers.
The second event is the DJ Magazine Top 100 Awards that occurs yearly in the fall at the Amsterdam Music Festival - one of the biggest festivals in Europe (and even in the world)!
See, that really was the award to win when you become a mainstream DJ- making it on at least the top 10 on that specific list. DJ Magazine was one of the most highly esteemed magazines when it comes to DJs and the EDM music industry in general. They always publish a yearly list of the top DJs in the world that year, chosen by both the editors of the magazine and by votes from the fans worldwide. To be on that list- especially in the top 10- would guarantee Arthur to maintain his face to the public and allow him to continue his career at a steady pace rather than being considered as a one-hit wonder.
Last year, Arthur won the 13th spot on the list- which is not so bad, once again considering that he wasn’t on the EDM scene for too long compared to the other competitors. Jean Épine on the other hand, managed to snag 12th place.
When the list came out that year, Arthur had not encountered Jean at all, and maintained a neutral opinion on it. He had always wanted to make it on the list, but he felt that maybe he should try not to tire himself out so soon and release a few songs rather than work on an album.
Now, after he met Jean and talked to him, there was something inside him that suddenly lit up. A fiery, red hot fury that forced and motivated him to dive headlong into all these separate projects as soon as he got back home to London in order to release an album by the summer the coming year, and at least releasing enough songs to present at various festivals such as Coachella and Tomorrowland. This leap in motivation could be mostly the anger and annoyance he felt whenever he saw his face and remembers how he mocked him that one night, as if they weren’t on equal grounds…actually, yes, now that he thinks about it, that is the reason why that flame lit up inside of him.
And so he met with artists, and started producing beats as soon as he can- Krishna, the owner of the studio that he uses so often, was a close friend of his when he first started to try to make music professionally. He should have used the studio that Braginsky offered to their artists, but Arthur owed Krishna a lot for helping him out and allowing him to use his space to make demos and remixes. Mei thought that it was a good idea- she knew Krishna wasn’t cheap, but he didn’t demand a lot.
“If you can get me signed on to an agreement with your company, I’m willing to give you the keys so you can use it whenever you want, and a cheaper rate,” Krishna had bartered, to which Mei knew would be good to make the company stronger since their studio was not as updated as Krishna’s studio.
And so, that’s where Arthur spent most of his time, if he wasn’t out partying with other producers, flying out to events to perform or at home hungover and high from whatever he had the night before.
He managed to land a collaboration with a singer from Portugal, a young man named João Santos, who was starting enter the English market in Europe and had a good following in the U.S. At first, Mei thought it would have been better to find someone who was already popular- and Arthur admits that João was hard to work with at first, not being used to collaborating with artists a lot. Arthur usually lends his voice when necessary, so working with someone else and allowing them to be equally involved in the process was new.
But, he made it through, and they eventually became really close friends during the production process. Their song, “Something Else” , was a hit right away, and ended up being the main track on his album that he later released during the summer. The music video was trending on YouTube for a long time, and Arthur had heard the song play on the radio for a long while.
Most of songs played a lot as well and were good hits, but he knew that “ Something Else ” would really help him out more than anything if he wanted to reach his goal.
Maybe reaching for number one is a really high goal for someone who just started to have, but he would be fine with any number on the list- as long as he beated that womanizer, Jean Épine.
He assumed that Jean Épine would not release an album that year- he didn’t think the man had the worth ethics to dedicate to another album so soon. Maybe Arthur had stalked him on Instagram and Snapchat to see what he was up- and most of his Stories were him partying and living it up surrounded by all these gorgeous people.
Was Arthur jealous?
No of course not!
…okay, maybe Arthur was a bit jealous of how Jean seems to be surrounded by all these lavish things while looking like a million dollars while Arthur is putting in the work and looking sleep deprived to release good music. He does party, but it’s not like he’ll fly to Monaco with his friends for a whole week to live it up with models.
No, he had to stay close to his new mansion in London and not get too distracted.
However, his work certainly paid off - even though Jean Épine released an album after Arthur did, Arthur had a good feeling that his album would have a better chance. Jean Épine’s music, although catchy and good, still lacked some messages and relied heavily on love, sex, drugs.
However, the media and fans had a different image of this. They saw that it was another form of competition between them, and started fuelling a few rumours of them only talking once and having a fight that resulted to them never meeting again. Although to Arthur, it is true there is a rivalry, it was entirely one side, and was less or a rivalry and more of showing to Jean what he’s made of.
And Arthur especially felt good as he landed in Amsterdam the day before the festival on a jet that he can afford thanks to all the money he was accumulating over the year, with Mei and Yao accompanying him.
Yao managed to book two wonderful rooms in one of the most high end hotels - one for Arthur that was located on the top floors and one for them further away as to not disturb him and be plagued by the sounds of potential partying all night.
They were able to travel a bit around Amsterdam safely- it helped that Arthur could pass as a nobody with the right kind of clothings- and finally, the day arrived for him to get ready for to head for the Johan Cruyff ArenA.
Yao stood his grounds against Mei when she wanted Arthur to dress formally, and Arthur was internally grateful that Yao was the one styling him. Yao had a good taste in modern fashion (especially street fashion), and he made sure that Arthur looked like a good mix of casual, but not too casual. The olive green jacket overtop a regular black shirt surprisingly suited his peach undertones and although he had to wear tight black jeans, he had to admit that he looked extremely nice in.
They took a limo to the event, but Mei and Yao allowed to Arthur to get out first and meet up with his friends backstage.
After talking to a few interviewers, as per usual before an event, Arthur caught up to Matthias, Tino, Berwald, and Lukas, who saved him a seat.
The setup was like any award show, though the artists were further back from the stage, with the stage being on one end with the rest of the bottom floor being opened for fans and music goers. There were multiple screens on the wall of the stage- one in the middle in the shape of an hour glass and two closely fitting into the spaces. There were also two extra rectangular screens hung up on the pillar like parts of the stage. with a singular catwalk allowing them access to the presenters. There was a disk jockey station set up already for the performances that would go on during the award ceremony.
“Ladies and gentlemen…welcome. Mesdames et monsieur…bienvenue. Dames en heren…welkom.”
The stage slowly lit up as the women’s monotone voice continued, “Welcome to the world famous DJ poll …The Top 100 DJs, presented by DJ Magazine.”
The two co hosts appeared on the stage from behind the huge jockey, all dressed as one would expect to these awards. The crowd went wild until the cohosts started to talk, giving a small speech about the year in a nutshell for the community.
Before announcing the top positions, the show presented awards on who had the highest position in each categories they offered.
Lukas managed to snag one of these awards, coming up to 10th place, along with The Aftermath coming up to 5th place with the Highest Group Award.
“Now, we will be announcing the top ten DJs that made it on the list!” The female announcer beamed, and the lights started to dim as the screens behind them lit up.
The same monotonous women started to lost off the names of the winners besides the ones that won an award.
By number four, the anticipation was building up for Arthur. A part of him was dreading that he didn’t make it on the list at all, and that his ranking was actually lower than last time. But a past of him knew that he was going to make it in the top 10…
As long as I beat Jean , Arthur thought hopefully, wringing his hands slightly. I didn’t hear his name at all…does that mean he was lower than 10th?
There was a bit of glow inside of him, but he knew he had to suppress it until they named the number one DJ.
He could hear some fans in the audience chant- some were saying KING repeatedly, which made Arthur feel good. But then there were some who said Jean, which slightly annoyed him, but he can’t lose face.
“Number 2…” Arthur held his breath, and he could tell the audience was waiting. “KING!”
Arthur’s heart skipped happily when he realised that not only was he in the top ten, but he was so close to first. Not bad for a newcomer…not bad at all. The crowd cheered and he saw his face on both of the side screens flanking the sides of the main screens in the middle, and Arthur finally felt less anxious and more relaxed.
“THAT’S MY GUY, WOOOO!!!” Matthias yelled as he shook Arthur’s shoulder with a tight grip.
“Amazing!” Tino exclaimed happily, clapping in joy for Arthur’s achievement.
He may not have reached his goal, but this just means that he is still one of the top DJs. Things can only go up from here.
“Now, we will be announcing the No.1 DJ in the world,” the male announcer started as the stage lit up for everyone to see. “No only will this DJ win this amazing title, but they will also be winning this year’s Dutch Artistic Prize created by the infamous classical Greek Artist, Grecia Karpusi.”
The crowd cheered as a young woman brought a marble white statue on the stage- it was in a form of a pillar, and represented what it really means to be number one. To stand on top of the world that only has room for one.
“And the world’s number one DJ is…” the man opened an envelope, and Arthur held his breath. It’s most likely one of the older, veteran DJs that released an album that year- it is likely they were going to win. They tended to have the biggest base compared to the newer DJs like himself and Lukas.
“Jean Épine!”
Screams and cheers are heard. The stage went blue- the theme of that year’s poll.Confetti fluttered from the air as the stage lit up the catwalk, and all the cameras swooped around.
Arthur froze.
He couldn’t believe it.
Did he hear that correctly?
“How…”
JEAN ÉPINE shone brightly in white in front of the disk jockey that was behind the hosts, and his name and face was plaster on all of the screens.
Arthur’s eyes followed the figure that waltzed down the catwalk to the front, and he felt his stomach churning. His body felt heavy.
It would have been fine if this was anyone else. He would have been okay with not winning the title.
But the fact is, he already lost to Jean Épine. He may have won of a prestigious award in Ibiza, but towards the end, it seemed like he wasn’t winning anything against him. Neither of them won an award at Ibiza…but in this case, between the two of them, there is one winner.
Arthur gripped his fists, his knuckles turning whiter than they already were, and grit his teeth. Unfair. So many countless days working at the studio while Jean Épine partied and released a subpar and generic album.
“Arthur are you okay?” Tino asked, worry in his voice, but he knew that Arthur was not okay. Arthur had talked to his friends before about how he felt about Jean Épine- though he made it seem like it was a small thing that just annoyed him slightly. Not some crazy goal he wanted to achieve to rub into the Frenchman’s face.
Even though winning would really help him with bookings and opportunities, he wanted something more than the title- he wanted to feel like his creativity and hard work got him somewhere further.
“Yes,” Arthur said as he started to clap with the others, wanting to be polite. “Just great.”
Jean smiled as he accepted the award, and started with a quick speech, but Arthur tuned out. For the rest of the night, Arthur was out of it- the shock was too much for him.
What was the appeal of Jean of all people? Lukas was in the same genre as him and he didn’t rank this high before.
By the end of the night, Matthias was happily chatting with Tino as they started to walk out of the auditorium to head to a club with some other people they knew.
“Arthur- are you okay?” This time it was Lukas who asked him, his voice soft and cool.
Arthur tried hard not to have a frown, but he couldn’t help but feel like he let himself down.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Arthur replied quickly, trying hard not to sound salty. “Just feeling a bit tired. Maybe I should head back to the hotel.”
“Bro, don’t leave now,” Matthias whined as he slung an arm around his shoulders, grinning wildly. “We still got to party while we’re all here! We have to fly out to LA tomorrow, and I don’t know when we’d have the time to see each other!”
“It’ll be fun, c’mon Arthur,” Tino said a bit more gentler than Matthias.
“Besides,” Matthias leaned in. “Amsterdam has some good weed- it might help ya. I gotchu.”
Arthur easily gave in, and didn’t protest as they entered the same limousine to head over to their hotel- they all were staying in the same place, but the party was taking place in the big event room the hotel has to offer.
Maybe it would help me , Arthur thought, quickly messaging Mei where he was going, but she didn’t reply right away. Maybe she was sleeping.
He did the same to Yao, who said not to do anything he wouldn’t do. And knowing Yao, he wouldn’t take drugs- which is what Arthur was most likely to do.
They entered the hotel, and they could hear the loud music of hip-hop from the event room down the hall, with the loud cheers of people that were inside the room and outside pool.
Arthur greeted the host of the party, and the moment Matthias brought him to the island bar in the kitchen, Arthur didn’t think twice about downing the shots handed to him. The tequila burned his throat, forgetting to lick the salt and lime along with it, but Arthur was more concerned of getting drunk than the taste of whatever alcohol he consumed that night.
Fuck it, was the only thing he thought clearly, before he was absorbed into the party scene. With Matthias and Berwald, they found a place where there were other people waiting for Matthias to hand out the goods.
Arthur inhaled the blunt deeply, and closed his eyes while exhaling. He immediately started feeling a bit droopy…he felt a bit more relaxed. Good thing he’s not taking ecstasy- he would have been more anxious than calm. More alcohol is passed around, and Arthur accepted a beer handed to him by who knows.
God knows what happened next. He got up at one point and staggered outside of the room, saying that he wanted some fresh air. In the hallway of all places, of course, but he wasn’t thinking straight.
Arthur laid across the couch that was near the door facedown, trying to breathe in something other than marijuana and tobacco smoke. His heart beated steadily to the sound of the loud music that shook the sofa slightly.There was a plant he couldn’t name right beside him, and the way the big leaves touched his hair made him feel like he was one with nature.
Arthur was completely gone at that point.
Breathing in nature’s finest oxygen source , he thought happily, lifting his head up here and there to make the leaves rustle.
“I don’t think we’re allowed to go inside…”
“Raivis, shush!”
Arthur glanced up when he heard those voices and saw the familiar dirty blonde hair and glasses of one of his favourite person.
“King! How’ve you been buddy! I didn’t get the chance to talk to you during the show!”
Not now…
“Eduard, how’d you get in?” Arthur tried his best to not sound as hazy and drowsy as he feels, sitting up immediately and straightening up his body.
“I wanted to interview a few more people, and I know the guy. It’s still an open event ish,” Eduard said happily, smiling. He had a microphone in his hand, and his little cameraman was there with a smaller camera than he would usually lug around.
"Don’t worry, this isn’t live! It’ll all be pre recorded! Can we ask you a few things about the event?”
Arthur haphazardly thought about it- his mind was foggy, and he didn’t say anything other than nod.
Eduard started the mini interview, asking him some things about the event, what he was wearing that night, and all those basic questions.
Then he asked the million dollar question.
“How did you feel when Jean Épine won as the world’s number one DJ?”
Now. If Arthur was still the sober man that he usually is, he would have immediately praised Jean, saying that he deserved to win the award.
But this isn’t sober Arthur. This is a mixture of drunk and high Arthur, Arthur who felt disappointed with his loss, and Arthur who was angry that that sorry little excuse of a producer managed to be number one without taking the whole music thing seriously!
“Well, people will always like someone as long as they release generic sounding songs that you can party too,” Arthur slurred, smiling. “And if all it takes is to use samples of beats and waves to make hit songs that make people vote for you, then by all means, he deserves this award.”
At that moment, Arthur felt proud that he said exactly what he wanted to say. What he said was what he said, and that was the end of people constantly asking him about that stupid man, Jean Épine.
Unfortunately, Arthur didn’t know that this would actually be the beginning of his long standing media rivalry against Jean Épine.
Understand the Dark Side of Snapchat For Your Kid
one of the best schools in india Ecole Globale says that Snapchat is the most popular application for mobile devices that enables users to send photos and videos (called snaps) to other users. However, in contrast to with photos or videos sent via text or email, those posted on Snapchat disappears seconds once they're viewed—the sender gets to determine how long a photograph can "live," from one to 10 seconds, once it's viewed. The idea is that users will send time-limited photos that may be embarrassing or just silly without a significant worry that it'll realize its way to other social media sites where it'd live forever. Sounds great, in theory, but the problem is that there really are ways to capture and recover images, that is why no one should develop a false sense of security about sending them. Some times smartphones are not allowed in girls boarding schools in India which is better for their future.
How SnapChat Works
Once the Snapchat app is downloaded from the App Store or Google Play, the user registers and sets a password, it then accesses your contacts on your mobile phone to load friends to the application; otherwise, you will add other friends manually.
Once you load the app and log in, you'll be able to take a photo, edit it, add a caption or other "doodles." Then you choose the friends to send the photo to and set a timer from one to ten seconds. once the photo is sent, the receiver has the time set by the timer once they access the app to appear at the picture before the message "self-destructs."
Friends will then take their photo to reply or just send a message back.
Parental concerns
Despite its quality, parents are right to be concerned about Snapchat—there are a host of problems that will compromise children's safety. Some school in Dehradun have the policies that mobile phones are not allowed so students may get a quality education.
First of all, for parents who used to monitor their kid's smartphone use, Snapchat doesn't save pictures and messages sent; thus, you'll be able to see them later. If you've got a software package that enables you to see the content of your child's phone remotely on-line, you won't be able to see what was sent so automatically deleted, which will raise some issues.
Secondly, whereas the photo message disappears from the phone once a few secs, it doesn't prevent the receiver from taking a screenshot of the picture whereas it is life. To Snapchat's credit, when a receiver takes a screenshot of the picture, the sender is notified on the app, but that may not be enough to prevent the photo from being shared later with others.
Also, if a receiver is aware that a message is coming, he may take a picture of the mobile screen with another phone or camera. Therefore the sender would ne'er apprehend that their supposedly evaporating photo would be alive and well on somebody else's device.
Finally, because of the lower risks of getting a photo, eventually creating the rounds of the internet, it's additionally tempting for teens to use Snapchat for "sexting." Snapchat itself admits that up to 25 % of users could send sensitive content regularly "experimentally."
One father, whose child was being bullied via Snapchat—a reportedly all-too-common occurrence—was ready to use this workaround for good once he recorded one of the bullying snaps by taking a video of it on his own phone.
Parents who permit their youngsters to own Snapchat need to have a serious discussion with their children to debate the risks associated with the false sense of security that Snapchat could offer.
Other Snapchat options
Since its creation, Snapchat has added other options that parents ought to be aware of.
Snap Map
Introduced in 2017, Snap Map permits users to share their real-time location with anyone on their Snapchat friend list and track the locations of their Snapchat friends who do the same. The feature may be a way to use the situation services already available in several other smartphone apps. Since a number of their Snapchat contacts might not be real friends, this is often a big risk. Unless there's a particular event and it makes it easier for friends to know every other's location, specialist advises leaving Snap Map off or using it in "ghost mode," that permits you to see the real-time location of friends who haven't hidden their locations.
Discover
Launched in 2015, the Discover feature permits you to see content from popular media channels—many of which offer sexually oriented content. Though Snapchat's terms of service discourage specific content, these channels include images posted from magazines, tv stations, and alternative content providers which will be inappropriate for youngsters.
A lawsuit filed in California in 2016 cited a number of the offensive Snapchat Discover content together with "people share their secret rules for sex" and "10 things he thinks when he can't make you orgasm." Not several parents would be comfortable with their tweens and teenagers having immediate access to articles like these.
Safeguards
It's vital to note that Snapchat will have a minimum age of thirteen, that complies with the Children's on-line Privacy Protection Act. When it's downloaded on your mobile, Snapchat asks for your date of birth, and—if you're under 13—you're redirected to the child version, referred to as "SnapKidz," that is more restrictive than Snapchat (for example, you can't add friends or share anything). That said, it's not uncommon for underage children to find a workaround (that is, using a fake birthdate) so that they can open an account.
Day 18: Snapchat
Based off of a youtube video a coworker showed me a couple of days ago.
Hinata squinted down at her phone, Ino hovering over her shoulder as she talked her through the new application she had just downloaded. The main screen of the app being simple enough. It looked very similar to her regular camera application but Ino swore up and down that this was way more fun that that or Instagram.
“The filters are cool and some people do cool stories!” Ino said in a rush of words, pulling her own phone out and setting it side by side with Hinata’s.
“Stories…?”
“Yes! So like, the app does some and they use your location to show you relevant stories and happenings and you can see your friend’s stories too. The filters are super cute’'! Oh, let’s Christine yours with a flower crown selfie. Let me show you.”
Ino grabbed the metal of Hinata’s desk and dragged her loudly across the aisle and right up to her own desk. Hinata looked around at their instructor who didn’t bat an eye at them, instead she continued typing away at her computer, brow furrowed in the stress of having to enter grades for their final projects.
“Okay, so here’s how you do it.” Hinata followed along as Ino walked her through the different options she could pull up and how to do it. She added a few friends for her and showed her how to browse through people’s stories and was warned that if she ever screen captured anything that particular person would get an alert. Ino pressed their faces together as she held out Hinata’s phone and an odd pink haze enveloped them on the screen along with digital flower crowns appearing across their foreheads. Ino giggled and Hinata wrinkled her nose at it.
“It makes our eyes so shiny.” She commented, reclaiming her phone to scroll through peoples stories, quickly making sure her phone was muted before starting on Choji’s story.
“It does! So neat right? Who needs make up when filters exist?” Hinata smiled as Shikamaru’s story loaded next, showing a short video he’d uploaded a couple of minutes ago.
Shikamaru had a free period right now along with Naruto and Sasuke. Naruto was grinning into the camera, mouth moving as he held up a metal slinky. She recognized the back of the school where there was a series of stairs that lead down to the practice fields and the track. The next clip showed Naruto placing the slinky down on the stairs. Sasuke leaned up against the railing, holding his own phone and likely also immortalizing the moment.
The next clip started up showing Naruto running after the slinky as it made its trek down the stairs, the blonde’s arms flailing around him as he followed the toy excitedly.
Kiba was spluttering next to Ino then but she didn’t take her eyes off the screen. Though she soon understood why he had started laughing as she watched Naruto take a nose dive on to the pavement when he tripped on the last step trying to keep up with the slinky.
“Oh!”
She got a notification at the top of her screen of a message Sasuke had sent. Ino had just happened to turn towards Hinata’s screen at that exact moment.
“Oh! Private message! Can I see with you?” Hinata bit her lip. She didn’t think Sasuke would send her anything she couldn’t share but…
But there was something about sharing private conversations between herself and Sasuke that made her hesitant. She usually didn’t care about things like that. She usually didn’t even care about sharing her passcode to her phone with anyone.
But Sasuke was different.
She didn’t enjoy the idea of sharing anything about Sasuke with anyone.
She couldn’t quite justify this feeling so she leaned closer to Ino to pull up the private messages. She waited for the purple square to load and tapped it open to see a picture of Naruto, sitting on the counter of one of the boys rooms, t-shirt bloody, and a blood soaked paper towel held up against his face. Naruto had his head tilted back and he was grinning and giving a thumbs up. The caption reading: Tfw you eat it chasing a slinky down concrete stairs.
“Oh my god,” Ino guffawed, throwing her head back as an unladylike snort escaped her. Hinata allowed herself to giggle freely then. The blood was alarming but Naruto appeared to be in good spirits. She snapped a quick picture of Ino laughing and replied to them.
Sasuke didn’t wait long to comment on her new social media profile and she knew they’d probably start up a third string of messages on here to accompany their already established text messages and Facebook messages. She smiled as she watched the short clip Sasuke sent of him rolling his eyes before switching to the front facing camera to show Naruto with his shirt in the sink as Shikamaru held down the faucet to keep the water running to try and rinse the blood out.
Snapchat + Stalking
Sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat, provide individuals with unlimited access to their friends and significant others, allowing users to maintain active — though sometimes unhealthy and addictive — relationships. Founded in 2011, Snapchat is a mobile app that allows users to send messages, photos, and videos for a limited amount of time. Additionally, the platform pioneered the chronological ‘Story’ — a feature that allows users to broadcast content to their followers (Hayes). Snapchat is also host to a designated ‘Discovery’ page that showcases short-form content from news publications like Buzzfeed, the DailyMail, and Cosmopolitan. Thus, Snapchat offers its users a ‘full package’ social media experience, enabling them to communicate with friends and keep up with global news, local activity, and trends in popular culture (Hayes). Although social networking sites strive to bring people together, certain platforms accomplish the opposite. Specifically, Snapchat’s “Map” feature (Figure 5) encourages addictive behaviour by allowing users to explore voyeuristic tendencies by stalking their friends. SnapMap allows users to share their geo-location with friends; although the default setting is public, by switching to “ghost mode” users can prevent others from viewing their location.
In some instances, this feature can be useful: for example, after a late night out, one might check their SnapMap to ensure a friend made it home safe. Contrastingly, some users utilize the feature to compulsively stalk their close friends or significant others. According to Doctor Emma Short, director of the National Centre for Cyberstalking Research (NCCR), spending time on computers and smartphones can prevent individuals from forming healthy relationships in ‘real-life’ (Press Association). When we experience jealous or paranoid thoughts about our partners, it often seems easier to rely on Snapchat’s location services to confirm or disprove our suspicions, rather than addressing our relationship concerns in person; for example, if one develops even a shred of suspicion that their partner might be lying about their current whereabouts, they can visit their SnapMap to discretely lurk over their partner’s location and who else might be with them. We tend to experience a satisfying ‘wave of relief’ should our suspicions be proven wrong, prompting us to compulsively check in on our partners each hour, or perhaps more frequently, rather than waiting to confront them face-to-face. As social relationships exist primarily online, stalking then becomes a by-product of internet addiction that maintains its own detrimental consequences (Press Association). In 2017, for example, a 25-year-old man became worried when his girlfriend was not answering her phone; he then used SnapMap to track her location and armed himself with a knife when he found her sitting in a car with another man — whom he subsequently stabbed multiple times in a fit of jealous rage (Ms. Smith). Hence, rather than fulfilling their objective of bringing people together through a social networking app, Snapchat ultimately has the capacity to drive users apart as they become addicted to the application’s ‘stalker-azzi’ software, failing to build the communication and trust skills that are necessary for long term relationships.
3 best approaches to Hack Friends Facebook messenger:
1. Keylogging
Keylogging is a software program which records the activities and keystrokes used during login of account and discloses the password of the user to you. Using the most advanced software, it sends data back to you and regulates the information which has been copied and pasted, even interprets voice dictations.
While there are a lot of keyloggers out there, the best among them is Spyrix Free Keylogger. This app records all the words typed by the user and saves them in its file along with the list of programs used by them. For better performance, it takes screenshots at regular intervals.
The only complication while using this software is that you have to have access to the person’s computer.
Following that, you can proceed with the steps:
Visit the CNET website and then click on ‘Direct Download for Spyrix Free Keylogger’
Once the software is downloaded, open the program by double-clicking and in the window that pops up click Yes, then click Next, three times.
Click on Install and then on Finish.
Once you start the program, it automatically starts recording the keystrokes of the typing done on the computer. To view the collected information, you have to press Ctrl+Alt+A. You can then search the details until you find the login information.
If the password is already saved on the browser, then download software called FacebookPasswordDecryptor which shows the detected facebook passwords stored through Internet Explorer, Chrome or other browsers. Just download and run the program and soon you will have the necessary details.
Pros:
Free of cost.
Get the passwords of all social media accounts.
Cons:
Works only on Windows computers.
Have to have access to the user’s computer.
If two-factor authentication is enabled, the account cannot be operated even if you have the required details.
2. Phishing
This technique uses tricking human psychology to get the desired result. To phish for the information, you have to generate a relying e-mail which looks like it is received from Facebook directly. Within the email, there would be a link which when the user visits, they would be asked to enter their login information to secure their account. Once done, you get the information that has been collected by the link and can easily access the account of the user.
This, however, is generally illegal in most places, but if you need to find more info,
visit: Hacking-tutorial.com.
Pro:
Free of cost.
Physical access not required.
Cons:
No one falls for such scams.
If two-factor authentication is enabled, the account cannot be operated even if you have the required details.
Original Post from Security Affairs Author: Pierluigi Paganini
You work hard to keep your kids safe from so many different dangers, but every day they are exposed to countless threats online.
Predators, disturbing content, identity theft attempts, and other things you wouldn’t let them experience in real life are all waiting for them.
Shockingly, 1 in 5 U.S. teenagers say they have been approached in a sexual way by strangers online; only 25% told their parents.
As a parent, that’s terrifying.
Young people have access to a nearly infinite pool of content thanks to websites like YouTube and Reddit. Worse, the Internet, the rise of smartphones, and the culture of social media allow us to access these things from anywhere. No matter what you think of it or how much you know about it, platforms like YouTube are changing how children are growing up.
While that’s not always a bad thing, kids have more access to new sources of information, some good and some bad. Finding useful information on YouTube is easy, but so is stumbling across harmful or even malicious content.
How can you restrict what your children watch on YouTube?
The answer to this question isn’t simple. Fortunately, there are options available to parents when it comes to controlling YouTube and Internet access.
The number one priority for parents should be to teach their children to protect themselves online and use social media safely. As a parent, you can’t monitor everything your child does all the time, and older teenagers might want (and genuinely need) some digital privacy. Instead, focus on being proactive about their safety while teaching your children how to protect themselves online.
What Children Do Online
In 2015, the Pew Research Center found that 92% of teenagers go online daily and that 75% own a smartphone. An Australian study later reported that 95% of 8- to 11-year-olds have accessed the Internet in the last month.
The most common websites they used were YouTube, Facebook, and online games like Roblox. In fact, email and even text messaging have taken a backseat to social media for many younger users. Platforms like Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, and others provide a nearly infinite supply of content.
The Threat of Online Strangers
Sites like Instagram and Twitter not only let you connect with close friends and family members, they also open communication with complete strangers. Nearly half of Facebook users accept friend requests from people they’ve never met before, and most users are familiar with stories of social media or chat requests gone wrong. But did you know that YouTube allows comments on most videos and that those comments sections can contain links posted by predatory adults hiding behind fake profiles?
Parental Controls
Many modern devices, apps, and web browsers offer parental controls that restrict access to certain content for their kids but did you know that many antivirus software titles already include parental controls? It’s two layers of protection with one installation. Some popular options include:
Bitdefender – the premium version comes with a lot of features, but some of them are intrusive. These features include a webcam filter, activity reports, history and alerts, social media and mobile phone tracking, IP monitoring and blocking, SMS and call monitoring, website and app blocking, and location tracking.
Norton – this household name features time, web, search, social media, and location supervision, protection of personal information, access request, and support for up to 10 devices.
Avast – the website blocking feature is less intrusive than the other options mentioned. Parents can block specific websites and keywords.
A quick search will show you which antivirus software includes parental controls but in our experience, the best way to encourage safe Internet browsing is education and conversation.
Many platforms like Netflix have built-in parental controls that restrict content with a passcode. Netflix supports kid-focused user accounts to block adult-only shows. iPhones also have parental controls in their settings menus.
Some tech-savvy kids can bypass parental controls by installing certain software. Prevent them from doing so by giving them access to non-administrator user accounts on your operating system. Most will only let certain accounts install new software.
Finally, educating your kids on some smart browsing habits goes a long way toward ensuring their safety. You want to teach them to:
Never share personal information online, like your phone number, email, address, or personal pictures.
Think before you post. Your name is attached to everything you say online, so don’t post anything you wouldn’t want a teacher, a friend, a family member, or a potential employer to see.
Understand that their actions online can have consequences in real life.
Take some time to go through the privacy settings on Facebook and other online platforms.
Don’t share passwords.
Don’t meet someone you’ve befriended online without parental permission.
These are just general guidelines. It’s worth looking into the specific services and platforms your children enjoy using the most to see if they offer any customized parental controls.
Facebook
Facebook is still one of the most popular social media platforms, but younger audiences are increasingly turning away from it. Chances are if your child does use Facebook, having a profile plays a huge role in your child’s ability to fit in with friends at school. Not only are the usual online dangers present, but what your child posts can impact his or her livelihood down the road. College admissions officers and job recruiters have reported that content on Facebook and other channels could harm an applicant’s chances.
What does this have to do with streaming videos? Facebook introduced a streaming feature called Facebook Live. These are videos being broadcast to the user’s friends list, but the recording of it can be shared. That means raw, unedited footage of anything the user opted to broadcast can be shared to unconnected users. Unfortunately, Facebook has come under fire for some of these videos, especially ones of gang rape and of the murder of Philando Castile.
YouTube
YouTube modernized access to digital media and this popular video sharing website is used by people of all ages. Many parents rely on YouTube to entertain or instruct their children and while this works for many, there is a lot of troubling content on YouTube that masquerades as kid-friendly.
YouTube has everything: children’s shows, toy reviews, video game footage interlaced with player commentary (known as “Let’s Plays”), and so much more. YouTube’s content creators are more than eager to provide content that appeals to young children. The official Peppa Pig YouTube account, for instance, streams episodes of the show live for free.
But you can’t expect everything to be kid-friendly. Plenty of malicious and racy content can be found on YouTube. While users have the ability to “flag” objectionable videos and YouTube offers a kids’ mode, these solutions aren’t perfect. The only way to ensure safe browsing for very young children is to be aware of what they are watching.
Let them watch without headphones so you can listen in on.
Check their video history from time to time.
Understand the current trends when it comes to questionable content (more on this later).
Encourage them to watch channels that you know are kid-friendly.
YouTube’s Darker Side
Among the kid-friendly channels, it’s important to know how to recognize any questionable content your child might be exposed to on YouTube. There are countless channels that appear harmless on the surface, however, a deeper look will reveal how disturbing the content actually is.
The Logan Paul Generation
Logan Paul is a popular YouTuber with millions of subscribers, including many younger fans. The online celebrity experienced controversy in late 2017 after posting a video of a dead body while exploring Japan’s infamous Suicide Forest.
He was heavily criticized for exploiting the man’s suicide for his online show. Logan eventually took down the video and issued an official apology but it was deemed “too little, too late” by many.
Elsagate
Another YouTube controversy is the Elsagate scandal. Recently, several videos featuring iconic child-friendly characters like Spiderman, Elsa from Frozen, and Peppa Pig emerged in videos that contained disturbing, non-child-friendly themes. These videos were produced illegally without permission from the official owners, yet many children watched them daily.
While some of these videos were clearly fake, others featured standard animation, making it difficult for kids to tell the difference. In these videos, the characters would often:
Inject each other with needles.
Attack, steal, and break things.
Get another one of the characters pregnant. There were countless videos featuring pregnant Elsa and other Disney characters.
Bizarre Disney and Marvel Live Action Content
There are also popular videos in which actors dress as Disney characters and create live action skits. Once again, these videos are full of disturbing content that is far from kid-friendly.
The majority of these questionable videos often ranked well because their creators knew how to manipulate the YouTube algorithm. A simple search for Spiderman or Elsa would often put these videos near the top of the search because they were viral.
Suggested Content
Another issue parents have to deal with is suggested content. Many children are still building their attention spans, and after a few minutes in one video, they might click a suggested video from the sidebar. Suddenly, they’re falling down the rabbit hole that is YouTube’s suggested content feature.
YouTube displays suggested content based on a set of specific ranking factors. If a video is extremely popular and somewhat related, it will be displayed. So, if your children click suggestions after watching a Frozen clip, it won’t take long for pregnant Elsa and Spiderman videos to pop up in their feed. As parents, this means your children are being served content that even adults would find creepy.
How can you stop it? There’s virtually nothing you can do to stop this other than strict parental controls and monitoring your kids’ internet use in real-time.
YouTube Parental Controls
Parental controls exist on YouTube. They are far from perfect and some bad content will still sneak through, but you can minimize the risk that your children will see something disturbing. Here’s what you can do through YouTube’s parental controls:
Block specific content types and creators. If there’s a specific channel you are aware of or a genre of content, you can block it.
Allow approved content only. Parents can also limit what their children watch by approving specific content. Kids will only be able to watch this content and nothing else.
Turn the search off. The search function on YouTube can be turned off. This is a great option for parents of children who are able to read and write.
Limit use to YouTube Kids. This is a popular option for parents who want a kid-friendly version of YouTube. While it doesn’t block everything, it does remove a lot of the adult content.
Snapchat
Snapchat is a messaging app for mobile devices where users can send images and videos to friends. The app is popular with teens and young adults, and surveys have shown that 32% of US teens have used Snapchat.
Unlike Facebook, you cannot monitor your child’s activity on Snapchat without having direct access to his or her account. Instead:
Ask your child to open Snapchat messages along with you.
Go into the app’s settings and make sure messages can only be received from friends rather than strangers.
In 2014, Snapchat was in the spotlight after a third-party “snap saving” app was hacked. Over 90,000 revealing photos were leaked on the Internet, many of which contained underage nudity.
Remember, “snaps” can be pictures or videos, so the same concerns you may have about Facebook Live or YouTube content applies to Snapchat.
Online Gaming
Video games have increasingly moved toward an online multiplayer business model where players can interact and communicate with other players. Games like StarCraft, World of Warcraft, PUBG, and Fortnite are entirely multiplayer, while others like Minecraft and Call of Duty offer both single player and multiplayer modes.
It’s important to understand that the ESRB rating system for determining age and content ratings for video games typically doesn’t consider online interactions. So, while a video game like Fortnite may seem child-friendly on the surface with its colorful graphics and cartoony art style, adult players can say anything they want to in the game’s voice chat.
Gambling Online – The CS: GO Gambling Scandal
Video game controversies can be extremely complex. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is an online multiplayer combat video game that offers in-game microtransactions, where virtual in-game items can be purchased using real money. In particular, CS:GO sells “skins,” or spray-painted designs to decorate a player’s weapons or character. Certain skins have been known to cost upwards of a thousand dollars.
It’s also possible to trade skins between accounts. This has led to the creation of websites built to allow players to wager the value of their skins against other user’s skins. Trading websites like these employ famous YouTube celebrities to advertise the service to millions of viewers as well.
Don’t fool yourself, these are gambling websites.
On these websites, players bet and win skins based on random chance and betting on live matches. While this setup is essentially gambling, trading skins manages to dodge the legal definition of gambling by not involving actual money, but rather virtual items that can be sold for money. Nonetheless, the game’s developers have been hit with class-action lawsuits over the possibility of underage players gambling on these sites.
There was even a major scandal in 2016 when popular Counter Strike YouTubers TmarTn and Syndicate, who were famous for creating videos of them gambling on these types of websites, were caught rigging bets on a website they owned. In these videos, the two players would gamble and show players how much they were winning. However, they never revealed to their audience that they were gambling on a website they owned. All of their winnings were staged, misleading their millions of supporters, many of whom were underage, and encouraging them to gamble.
Loot Box Addiction
A similar new trend is the rise of “loot boxes.” In certain games, players can purchase or earn a virtual crate which, when opened, give the player a randomized selection of further virtual items that can be used in-game. Thanks to the randomization factor, loot boxes have been claimed to be gambling in disguise.
In fact, the Belgian government ruled against loot boxes, calling them a form of gambling. Major corporations continue to push loot boxes because of how lucrative they are. In the video game industry, major companies have even coined the term “whales” for users who purchase an excessive number of loot boxes.
You might hear about loot boxes under different names. The video game Rainbow Six: Siege, for instance, refers to them as “Alpha Packs.” The screenshot above shows a seasonal “loot box” from Overwatch.
In-Game Purchases
Mobile phone games usually include microtransactions. These transactions involve any form of transaction that takes place in a game. They typically charge whatever credit card is linked to your App Store or Google Play Store account. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Pokemon Go, and Roblox are a few examples of free-to-play games that include excessive microtransactions.
Parents need to be aware of microtransactions. They can be addictive for your children, and in extreme cases, your child may rack up a large bill on your credit card.
The Takeaway
For the majority of kids and teenagers, the Internet has had a positive impact on their lives. Your responsibility as a parent, though, is to ensure a healthy balance between Internet use and your kids’ online privacy and digital security. Talk to them extensively about social media and content consumption, and be prepared to step in whenever issues do come up.
Be an active listener, educate them about the dangers of specific content, and make sure they understand that their actions online can have consequences. Take some time to understand the websites and services your children use the most as well. Teaching them how to engage with others online is integral to succeeding in an increasingly Internet-centered society.
Gucci snapchat
Snapchat is one of the fastest-growing social media platforms. Snapchat’s users doubled after the introduction of Stories, going from 200 million monthly active users to over 400 million in 2018.
Snapchat’s popularity shouldn’t be ignored by businesses. Active users tend to spend 30 minutes on the app.
78% of users are young (18-24) and almost 70% are female. Meaning Snapchat is a great place to engage with one of the most sought-after market segments in the world—millennial women.
Young people are a valuable market. Putting your brand in front of them not only drives engagement now, but you’re creating a brand loyalty with the generation that will soon hold the majority of the world’s wealth.
Let’s take a look at how Snapchat can get your brand in front of new potential customers.
Snapchat basics
Snapchat is a photo and video sharing app that sends content to selected friends for a short period of time. Once your friend receives your “snap,” it disappears within 1 to 10 seconds.
You can also use Snapchat to video chat with friends who are also active in the app.
Snapchat’s Story feature allows you to put videos and images on a single feed for friends to scan through and watch as many times as they like.
After 24 hours, anything uploaded a Story is deleted.
You can also send text messages within the app. They’re also deleted after a short period of time.
One of the things that makes Snapchat so unique is that the content isn’t permanent. It’s a brilliant concept because it means there’s always something new that users need to engage with.
What does that impermanent content mean for your business? For starters, it means that the content style is more laid back. You’ll notice some fancy ads and much-edited content from some bigger brands and fashion brands — like when Gucci let artists take over their Snapchat account for an hour per day:
Most businesses don’t need Gucci-level content. In fact, users on Snapchat want to feel the “realness” of your brand. They want a behind-the-scenes, unedited, uncut, look into your business.
Artist DJ Khaled is nicknamed The King of Snapchat. Most of his content is him, relaxing in his mansion, eating the meals prepared by his chef. This is appealing to users, but he’s really just living his life and Snapchatting along the way. Like in this Snap, where he’s relaxing in his jacuzzi:
What is Snapchat used for?
Snapchat is used for many different things. I personally use to watch video snaps of my baby niece that my sister sends. I have friends who love watching their friend’s Stories. I have one friend that religiously watches Kylie Jenner’s Stories. My teenage brothers use it to send me text messages. In short, it’s a great platform for everything from following brands and celebs to chatting with friends and relatives – all with the connecting theme of casual, impermanent content.
There are lots of features for editing images and videos. Users make lots of use of these features, but Snaps don’t really need to be edited to perfection. Instead, the edits are used more for fun, as with the virtual reality/augmented reality filters that are one of Snapchat’s biggest draws. These filters can give you a mustache or wrinkles, make you spit rainbows or fire, or turn you into a dancing hot dog.
Check out this example of an augmented reality filter by Skittles.
Getting started
There are tons of ways your company can use Snapchat to engage with users.
Just keep in mind that one thing to avoid is starting customer service questions with Snapchat because, since Snaps disappear, you won’t have any convos recorded.
Create a profile
First, set up your Snapchat profile. You’ll want to create a business profile, so you can either download the app from the App Store (available for iOS and Android) if you’re on a phone—or you can visit this link.
You’ll select a unique username. If the name is taken, a thumbs down will appear—if it’s available, you’ll see a thumbs up.
Remember, it’s best to keep your company usernames the same across all social platforms. The only way users will find your profile is through your username, so make sure the name is simple and as close to your company name as possible.
Update your settings
Make sure you update your settings so that everyone within the app can see your Snaps. Since you’re a business, you shouldn’t restrict your views to just friends.
Navigate to your settings from the home screen. Tap the top left button. Then, click the top right settings icon.
Settings > Who can > view my story
Change it from friends to everyone.
If you click the ghost icon on the home screen, you can update your profile, find users, scroll through friends, see who’s added you, etc.
Devise your plan
A company’s primary goal on social media should be to engage with their target market and direct them to whatever the company is selling. So, how can you get users from your content to a sales page?
Think about this before you start posting to Snapchat. Each post should be for a reason, with a clear goal in mind, not just an aimless effort to spur interest. Map out how users will likely engage and react to each piece of content you decide to post.
To get started, encourage users to follow you on Snapchat by sharing your new Snapchat account on your other social media profiles.
As your building your follower base on Snapchat, you can take clues from your other social media profiles as to what types of content your users prefer.
For example, let’s say you sell sneakers online and you’ve made the wise decision to automate your other social media channels with Sprout.
You glance at your Sprout Instagram Outbound Hashtag Performance and notice users are liking a ton of your content tagged with #redsneakerday. You could create some Snapchat posts around those same popular product.
You might create a Snapchat Story, where you show different people walking in various settings wearing your popular red sneakers. Maybe you show someone jogging on a track, another person hiking up a mountain, and another strolling in a museum or along cobblestone in a city. You can continue using your branded hashtag on Snapchat, too.
Instead of spending thousands of dollars on a professional videographer like you might need to do for other channels, you could simply ask your friends to wear your sneakers and send you a video that they took from their phones. Remember, Snapchat is all about “realness.”
Send your first snap
To send a Snap, navigate to the camera screen (a.k.a. the home screen). From here, just tap the camera button to snap a picture or hold down the camera button to take a video.
You’ll know you’re recording video because there will be a red line that fills the white line around the camera button. One video recording is complete when the circle is full, but you can record multiple videos back-to-back. The videos will also play back-to-back, without interruption, when viewed by your audience.
Like we mentioned before, some of Snapchat’s most popular features are the filters. Geofilters add text overlays or augmented reality to a Snap based on location. So, if you’re at Joe’s Coffee Shop, you might see a filter pop up for Joe’s Coffee Shop.
Check out this example of a Geofilter from Gujarat, India.
Remember not to stray too far off brand within Snapchat—brand still matters, even when there are tons of filter options at your fingertips.
But don’t be afraid to let a little loose with brand guidelines when it comes to showcasing “behind-the-scenes” stuff. You could use Snapchat to showcase:
Manufacturing processes
Employees
Team outings
Workspace environments
New products/releases
Product teases
Celebratory content
Snapchat is meant to be less stylized than the other platforms. It’s more personal—which is one of the reason’s it’s so popular, particularly with young people. So, don’t go overboard perfecting each image or video that you share. People on Snapchat are looking for authenticity above all else.
Use Snapchat to your advantage
Snapchat for business purposes is still a lesser-known subject.
There aren’t nearly as many businesses competing for Snapchat user attention as there are businesses competing on other social media networks.
This is a huge advantage for you—beating your competitors to the punch and building a following for yourself before they get there.
Get creative with filters
You can get insanely creative on Snapchat. Taco Bell is infamous for silly filters on Snapchat. For example, check out their Cinco De Mayo filter from earlier this year:
Hollywood also creates blockbuster Snapchat filters. Like this one from X-Men Apocalypse:
Both of these filters are great because users are excited about them, and when they share their images with friends, they’re also sharing the branding from these campaigns.
Generate engagement
There are over 3 billion Snap videos, pics, and Stories created every day. That’s a lot of opportunities to get users interacting with your company. There are lots of ways to drive engagement on Snapchat. Let’s take a look at some of the best ways.
Hold contests
A great way to encourage more people to follow you on Snapchat is to offer Snapchat-only giveaways and promotions.
For example, let’s say you’re a digital agency. You could create a contest for a package of free social media graphic design work. You share this contest with your other social channels and encourage followers to follow you on Snapchat for a chance to win.
Check out this contest on Twitter by the Cleveland Indians encouraging followers to follow them on Snapchat. Not only does it engage their Snapchat audience, it also drives users to interact with their Twitter account too – expanding followings on both channels.
Partner up
Find some Snapchat influencers and find ways to connect with them. You could also find other businesses with larger numbers of followers and ask to partner with them for a few posts. You can co-market your business with the help of others who share your same target demographic.
For example: If you’re a digital agency that does design work, you could partner with an SEO agency with more followers to create Stories that explain digital marketing tactics.
Check out this example, once again featuring the “King of Snapchat” DJ Khaled, partnering with Stride Gum.
Stay consistent
I’ve said this before—if there’s a golden rule for building a following on social media—it’s consistency. Keep Snaps coming on a consistent basis. Keep your brand image consistent across all of your social media profiles, Snapchat included. For example, if your go-to is a laid-back yet professional style, don’t suddenly curse every other word.
Engage back
As your brand grows, your fans are going to comment and engage with you. When they do that—don’t ignore them. Engage back, show them you appreciate their comments and likes. If people go out of their way, give them a shout out in your Snaps, better yet—share something they’ve Snapped.
Ask questions
Asking your followers questions encourages them to reply back to you. If you read our blog often, we practice this tactic by asking questions in the conclusions of our posts.
Questions don’t need to be complex. Simple questions are easier to answer. You might ask your followers:
What do you wish we offered that we aren’t yet?
How could we improve our customer service?
Would you rather us do _____ or _____?
Another great way to ask questions is to consider what’s relevant. For example, when football (American football) season is picking up – if your business markets to American dudes, you’ve got a golden opportunity to drive engagement with something that is trending.
You could ask:
Who’s going to win ______ or _____ ?
Who’s your all-time favorite quarterback?
Top 5 picks for Superbowl 2019?
Make great stories
Besides consistency and driving engagement, you need to focus on the quality of your content. Not so much in a “look and feel” way—remember Snapchat’s got a laid-back vibe.
Keep things interesting. Don’t just post pictures of your office or of your employees all day. Add your dog (people love dogs)!
Instead of sharing pics of your team, share pics your team takes. Or, share your customers’ content. You could try sharing industry news, or how-to videos.
Don’t forget to have fun
Snapchat is all about being footloose and fancy-free. If you keep it creative and consistent with your posting, you’re going to see more and more engagement.
