9. What is their view of love? 10. What are their regrets, if any, about the ways they have dealt with their sexuality or gender status before?
Milo believes love is out there for sure, but he’s not really a love at first sight kinda guy–mostly cuz he’s pretty stupid when it comes to any and all social cues and signals of interest and attraction. Even though he’s had some rocky romances and he’s had his heart broken a few times, he tries to remain positive about it, though he was pretty lonely and isolated right before his voyage to Atlantis.
He really doesn’t pay much mind to love though, at least not in daily life, as he’s too busy to deal and honestly has a rather low libido anyway so romance, love, sex, they aren’t really on the agenda for him most of the time. He’s lonely, but he feels his academic work is a higher goal, and pursues this instead, sometimes simply to rid himself of loneliness as well as keep the memory of his grandfather alive. If he happens upon someone he’s interested in though, he’ll be hella down for love.
As for platonic and familial love though, he’s got lots to give, though there is a sadness within him as he’s lost his parents early on, and then his grandpa, leaving him essentially with no family by age 30. But he’s got lots of love to give and he gives it as well as he can, warming up to almost anyone who’s willing to listen to him and proving to be a loyal friend.
Regrets in gender are not very existent. He’s cis, and while he isn’t the most masculine man, he hasn’t had much interest in exploring femininity besides learning to cook and stitch, though that’s more a result of his bachelorhood and picking up homemaking skills out of necessity. The only gender-related regret I could possibly think of his trying to put up a gruff bravado act for the girls back in grade school and early on in college rather than being himself, which often resulted in him getting beat up by the other boys. Ah masculinity…
As for his sexuality, he’s got a few regrets. He lost his virginity to a much older man during his college years, who he met because he was already rather accelerated schooling wise and often had much older classmates. He felt quite used after that brief dalliance, especially since he was much more of a romantic in his younger years. And then rumors of a homosexual affair (that were actually true) when he worked in Paris did prove to act as a wrecking ball to his budding career, and his lack of social skills surely didn’t help to pick up the pieces…He wished he waited, or was more careful, or was simply heterosexual. But what can one do about one’s own sexuality? He has some regrets about women as well--namely being made a fool of when he had a crush on a girl at a fair when he was a teenager.
