it's a shame we haven't yet seen coop interact w/friends pre-war very extensively and i struggle slightly w/trying to pin down how social i think he is bc canon would more suggest that he isn't very but i think we just don't get to see him w/ppl he likes very much. like we see him @ the vault-tec party and he is the picture of anti-social, throwing back drinks and immediately heading outside where there's no ppl and just happens upon seabass out there.

however, i do get the vibe that he is quite social. he may have his very close circle of friends that he is Truly Himself with but that he is the kinda guy who has lots of friendly acquaintances bc he's an agreeable/likable guy for the most part. and he likes to be around ppl as long as they're ppl he doesn't actively dislike. (i think his one quick interaction w/bud turns him off to everyone in that company except his wife lol). he likes time alone w/his family and such as well but he has a very healthy taste for both introversion and extroversion and can happily 'recharge' socially w/the right group of people.

post-war this changes considerably obviously. and his "social skills" are non-existent outside of his 'ghoul' persona and the acting he's doing as that role. his real social skills are thus far reserved for Four....the dog lmfao. and even that took a few eps. he's lived a very solitary life and his interactions w/people have left him sour towards almost everyone. if he cannot see what use a person may have to him, he won't bother w/niceties often. not willingly at least.

but i do think an important thing to recognize and remember is that he hasn't forgotten how to be social and interact w/others in "appropriate" ways....he just deliberately chooses not to or it's part of his act/manipulation to gain favor w/useful ppl/whatever will keep him alive.
