Gas Leak- BNHA mini fic
I am SO GLAD BNHA was requested! I just finished watching the two seasons of anime, and I just started reading the manga because of how good it is. So! Here is my attempt at a short self-insert story with BNHA! Be warned it has a lot of swearing and is kinda Self Shippy with Bakugo pfft.
Using prompts from This Post
19: “You’re in my seat.” 80: “What’s the use in fighting?”
“You did so well with that last test!!” Ochaco said, jumping slightly into the air next to you. You laughed, putting your hands up to hide the slight coloring of your cheeks and to rest your elbows against the desk.
“I thought I was the only one with a quirk good in water. Ribbit.” Tsuyu added, sitting next to you and letting her tongue blep out out of her lips slightly.
“I mean… It only helped a little.” You smiled, embarrassed at the attention. “I never tried making so much oxygen before… most of it was wasted in the water.” You thought back to the trial in the last class, where they had a simulation of a boat sinking, and it was the student’s job to get to a trapped ‘survivor’ on their own before it was too late. Thanks to your quirk, you were able to get to the survivor relatively quickly, taking the direct route of going through the boat itself.
Your quirk was Gas Conversion. The ability to pull in elements from around you, and convert it into a few different gases. Some of the students usually liked to compare you to Midnight, even though your gases could do more than put others to sleep. Well, not much more. But apparently creating emergency helpings of oxygen underwater was a plus. Of course after the test the teacher pointed out the dangerous flaw of relying on pure Oxygen, to your embarrassment. The others didn’t seem to notice.
“You are too harsh on yourself! You got in and out without needing to do any damage to the boat! I think you did really well!” Ochaco continued to gush, always the cheerful one. “It’s amazing so many of us were able to save the survivor despite not having quirks that matched the situation. Even the one’s that didn’t beat the time limit got so close! The only one that really struggled was-”
A hand slammed down onto the desk you were sitting at. “You’re in my seat.”
The interruption cut the conversation short, and your eyes followed the hand up till you were met with Bakugo’s face. He looked pissed… or was that just how his face was nowadays? Ochaco took a step back, and you could feel eyes of the other students on you.
“Last I checked, there wasn’t assigned seats.” You said with a plain voice and casual glare, not moving an inch. You knew for a fact up until last week, he’d been jumping from seat to seat. It’s not like he was attached to it or anything, he just was pissed at the test results and looking for someone to dump it on. “It’s not like your name is on-” Before you could finish your comment, a series of small explosions cause the desk to rattle, causing you to jump before you could catch yourself.
Bakugo pulled back his hand, and you could see a perfect charcoaled handprint on the surface of the wood. You looked up to see his eerie smile on his face as he looked down at you. “You were saying?” His crimson eyes gleamed, practically glowing in the shadows of his face. Damn, he was annoying.
“Oh, silly me.” You said with the most bored voice you could conjure. “I forgot vandalism was a legal form of dibs.” You overacted your shrugging and started to stand, but you suddenly felt shoved back down into the seat.
“You think you are so much better than me.” Bakugo’s smile was replaced with a harsh frown. You felt your eyebrow twitch with irritation and you opened your mouth to speak, but Bakugo leaned forward abruptly. “Shut up! I’ll kill you!” You could see Kirishima step forward, but you finally shoved Bakugo back.
“Oh, you’ll kill me?! What a surprise! I was worried that the last eight times you’ve said that you weren’t being serious!” Your voice dripped heavily with sarcasm as you motioned wildly with your hands. You rolled your eyes and stood up, ready to say something else when a cough was heard from the front of the class. Everyone immediately turned, seeing Eraser Head standing by the podium.
“Take a seat.” He instructed. The other students rushed to their desks. You ‘bumped’ shoulders with Bakugo on your way to another seat, and you could physically feel the anger radiating from him. Sucks for him, you smiled. He won’t have an outlet for that anger for the next hour.
---
Unfortunately, that outlet turned out to be you.
The next P.E. class was sparring with other students, decided upon random selection. And as cruel fate would have it, Bakugo’s name appeared next to yours on the first slot.
“You have got to be kidding me.” You muttered, seeing the digital letters hanging in the air for everyone to see. Midoriya caught your eyes, and walked over to you while the others talked and got ready for the sparring. This was meant to just be practice and getting used to other quirks, but you know this fight was going to be the real deal for Bakugo and you.
“Do you have a plan?” Midoriya asked, ever ready to help out someone.
“Yeah, walk my ass out of that sparring ring.” You sighed and put your hands to your face.
“What?! You can’t give up like that! What’s the use of giving up before the fight begins?” He asked, distraught that you would consider throwing the sparring.
“What’s the use in fighting? He’s batshit crazy, and my quirk is completely countered by his! Not even that, it’s directly is in his favor!” You explained, trying not to raise your voice. Your quirk had a lot of possibilities; putting people to sleep, releasing a stink into the air, becoming a human febreze, apparently a limited oxygen supplier… Even immunity against most other gases. The only problem with your quirk was that all of your gases were flammable. Every single fucking one. It wouldn’t matter if you tried to use your sleep gas on Bakugo, all it would take is one spark to set the entire area on fire, you included.
“So just because he has the upper hand, you’re going to give up?” Midoriya asked, and you shrugged. Bakugo didn’t have the upper hand, he had the entire goddamn deck. “What happens when you fight a villain with a fire quirk in the future, are you just going to give up then too?”
Check and mate.
You didn’t have anything to counter that. Even if you did, the teacher announced that it was time to start the sparring. You spent all of the time you could have used for planning instead trying to explain why you were going to back out, and now you couldn’t even do that. God, Bakugo was annoying.
You stepped up to your side of the sparring ring, seeing Bakugo already standing there, confident smile plastered on his face. He already had this in the bag.
“Don’t even think about running away.” Bakugo’s hands opened beside him, small explosions emphasising his point. “I’ll chase you down.” He threatened, and for once you felt like maybe that was a serious threat.
A plan. You needed a plan. Your gas was useless at a distance, and if you tried it in close quarters then he’d just explode it anyway. An idea popped into your head, and you immediately hated it. Worst idea ever. 0/10 would not recommend. However, having your ass handed to you on a fiery platter didn’t sound that much more appeasing either.
“What’s the matter, don’t have any cheeky comebacks for me?” Bakugo asked. Before you could think of replying, the air horn sounded, and he rushed you. You barely had the time to duck before he went sailing over you, and the gas behind you exploded, sending you flying towards the center of the ring. You tumbled into your landing, getting up just in time to jump out of Bakugo’s way again, landing hard on your stomach.
“Are you just going to keep avoiding me? How long can you keep that up?” He landed heavily beside you, deciding to fight you straight on rather than flying at you. “I told you that you aren’t better than me!” You rolled, and his foot smashed down where your head was a moment ago. Cracks spider-webbed under his foot, and you had to force yourself to not think about what would have happened if you didn’t decide to roll. Instead, you saw your opening, you grabbed his leg and brought your own legs up, wrapping them around his waist. You pulled, and he lost his balance, falling backwards. One of his fists came down on your leg, and you felt the impact of one of his explosions. You bit your tongue to keep from yelling, and quickly let go of your hold. You quickly rolled and pulled his leg at an angle he wouldn’t be able to get up in, and you could feel his hands instinctively grab your sides as he yelled. You felt the small explosions burn through your training outfit immediately and singe your skin, but thankfully you weren’t releasing any gas for him to catch on fire.
You needed to end this quickly. You were starting to get light headed, and who knows how many more chances will have to end the fight in your favor.
At the same time, you really, really didn’t want to win like this.
Giving up and accepting this was the only way to get out of the situation alive, you released your hold on his leg and flopped onto him, smacking your lips onto his.
Burning heat exploded from under you, sending you flying. You landed hard on your side, rolling until you were inches from touching the edge of the ring. You coughed and struggled to rise to your hands and knees, seeing Bakugo, already standing in his smoke.
“Fucking bitch.” He growled, taking steps towards you. “What were you th… What were…” His breath came out roughly, and you could see his feet stumble ever so slightly. “What did…” He uttered, before his eyes rolled up and he collapsed face first onto the ground.
The other students exploded into cheers as the teacher announced Bakugo was down and out. The teacher tossed a sweatshirt at you, and you immediately put it on, realizing a good portion of your shirt was burnt off in the last few explosions.
“Eh?! A secret hidden move?!” Ochaco asked, amazed. She clapped her hands together, happy with the outcome.
“Ah, I see. Since she has immunity to her own gases, she made some and held her breath with it until the last possible moment. That way Bakugo couldn’t light it up.” Iida noted, glasses shining with the light at just the right angle. You stood up, spat, and rubbed your mouth with the back of your hand.
“Wow! It’s just like some sort of… Goodnight Kiss!” Ochaco said, declaring the name before you could stop her.
“Isn’t that a drug?” Kirishima asked, and Ochaco froze.
“A...ah… Let’s not call it that then.” The others laughed, and you made your way down from the ring. Two robots traveled up to Bakugo, ready to take him to Recovery Girl. You glanced back at the others, seeing them all happy that you won. Though your victory was bittersweet, just imagining Bakugo waking up after all of this made you regret not letting him explode you into oblivion.
You won… but at what cost?
#@curlyyshepard#Bakugo x reader#bnha#mha#it feels so weird writing something not related to undertale#also weird writing something that doesn't have a serious cliffhanger#sure I could continue this but it is a good standalone I think#I hope you like it!#@ladytitanium
