NICKNAMES : nico loves his significant annoyance okay. he also calls will tesoro which is italian, a lot of his nicknames for will are in italian since that’s his first language

HONESTY ABOUT FEELINGS : not just “i love you so much it’s stupid” feelings, but nico is a rather private person in general, and doesn’t talk about how he feels. i think being honest and open about his emotions with will is his way of saying that he trusts and loves will enough that he knows will is gonna take him seriously and listen to what he has to say. 

PHYSICAL CONTACT : nico haaaaaaaaates overly affectionate couples, so he and will aren’t one. which makes them being physically affectionate with each other, etc. very significant. he’s very particular about what sort of physical contact he’s cool with, so the main types of physical affection he shows are holding will’s hand ( he’s not huge on this one because it’s very They’re A Couple and he likes physical contact that isn’t immediately indicative of them being a couple ), letting will put his arm around him ( he’s way shorter and it makes him feel Safe ), and just resting his head against will’s back, usually when will is trying to do other things. 

SHARING INTERESTS / DETAILS ABOUT HIS PAST : nico doesn’t really get excited about things around other people often, so it’s a Big Deal when he does get excited. sharing things he’s interested in like mythomagic, music, etc. is a big deal, and letting will see him be excited about things is a symbol of how he loves will enough to be something other than the sort of grumpy, surly ghost boy persona he puts out there. talking about the fantasia movie is a big deal this is just a dumb hc but that movie’s really significant to nico and when he finds out about fantasia 2000 he loses his goddamn mind which i think is one of the biggest examples of this ( please consider : nico running full speed across chb and barging into the infirmary so he can tell will that there’s a second fantasia movie ). so stuff like that where he allows himself to act more like a kid is an important way of showing he loves and trusts will.

BANTER : will and nico bicker a lot in the books. for nico, this is really important to him. he’s got kind of a prickly personality to begin with, so being able to have that banter with will and have will engage in a friendly way is really important to him. what that means to nico is that he is loved and will doesn’t mind perhaps the less than pleasant sides of his personality, so whenever they bicker ( see : significant annoyance / “will you be my buddy?” scene ), it’s very affectionate.
