I'M SOBBING THESE R SO CUTE I LOVE THEM,,,,,,,,, cuddly marcia YEAH I kind of hc her like that in canon bc well. She Does seem to hug ppl a lot for someone who 'doesn't do hugs' BUT in this au she has Friends so <33 also this marcia is like 10% less anxious bc sarah tells her literally all of the new and interesting gossip around the castle so she can be reassured that everyone is not talking abt her behind her back all the time actually. Also she has the Sad Wet Beast eyes when she's upset which is just a side effect of being part seal but nonetheless is funny <3

Going insane a little bit abt selkie marcia au combined w silas+marcia friends au which I don't even know if u care abt. And I know I COULD make an actual post abt it but I don't want to SO uh. Silas+sarah r friends w marcia in this au. Silas bc one time he was over at her place when they were younger (like she was. 8 and he was 14) and picked up her Coat to move it and she panicked and started crying and as soon as she told him what was going on he went OH SHIT. and never touched the Coat again. Silas is the only person besides like. Her mother that knows she is a selkie and she complains abt it to him a Lot right up until he leaves school at 17 and they stop talking to each other as much and then at all. And then she shows up at the heaps at age like. 15 after she left home and is like uh :) hi :) and silas offers to let her stay for a while and she's like I can't what if ur wife finds out abt me :( and he goes oh its fine shes a dryad. And so marcia stays w silas+sarah for a little bit before she can get her own room in the ramblings. Except her room is right next to their room anyway so she's basically still living with them for the next few years. And also marcia+sarah sometimes have tea and talk abt being Mythical Creatures and eventually they r just. Friends <3 more than once silas has come home to find a literal seal having a nap on the floor bc marcia was too lazy to light the fire but was cold. Simon has vague memories of her from when he was rlly little but he doesn't rlly process it as marcia overstrand extraordinary wizard he just remembers her as. Maybe his babysitter? And those memories r mixed up with ones of getting to play with a seal which clearly isn't right so maybe they aren't even real

I DO care about it that is sweet :') Marcia & Silas begrudging but incredibly close friendship means so much to me and !!! cuddly Marcia which is somehow what my brain conjures the moment she has fur.

So I gope you don't mind bc I immediaely had to sit down and hastily sketch all this

After the custodian is gone it's not at all uncommon to see sarah heap and the eow sitting in some random cafe #and they will be judging the people who go past #THE CUDDLE PILE YEAH #maxie loves her and she genuinely thinks he is SO annoying but he makes a good weighted blanket so whatever #tbh I think silas would keep it a secret so simon wouldn't find out marcias a selkie unless she outright told him #which. I don't think she would ahdidndijd #but he DOES still have the memories and he DOES ask silas abt them and silas is like haha. Wow look at the time I've got to go. #like the ones where u have a bunch of platonic soulmates. Maybe family as separate #but it's like not so much one where ur guaranteed to be friends with ur soulmates #it's just. These r people u could be friends with if u tried. U can lose soulmates if u hate them hard enough #sep talks #septimus heap #oh and it's one of those where ur soulmate can see whatever u write on urself that type of one #anyway marcia and silas r soulmates just because I think it's funny. They find it out and then r like fuck that. and hate each other #but not Enough bc they're still soulmates #(bc they do in fact care abt each other)#alther would just write the shopping list on his arm so marcia would buy stuff while she was out anyway #if ur soulmate dies the last thing they wrote stays on u forever and marcia still has a note from alther asking her to grab milk or smth #after they're done at the palace #I'm making it so u can like. Target who ur writing to bc tbh it seems like it'd be a pain if u couldn't #after marcia drops off jenna w silas the first thing he does when he's home (after trying and failing to console sarah)#is write 'marcia what the fuck' on the palm of his hand so she'll see it for sure #and she does! Oh I can't remember if I said this one yet? But I've always had a hc that when marcia left home she ended up staying w the heaps for a while bc. Her leaving was v spontaneous and she kind of just. Stuffed a spare set of clothes and her favourite magyk book in a bag and then left and immediately panicked bc all her money is still inside. As is her key. And she Knows she's fucked if she asks her mother to let her back in to get them so she goes to the only person she has anything resembling a friendship with and that is silas heap.

Also like how old was she when she left bc she was 17 when she got the apprenticeship and I'm? Assuming she was on her own for a bit before then? Did she just up and leave home at like 15 or 16

heheheh here are my thoughts on that:

· marcia is seventeen when her mama abruptly decides she’s had enough of the castle and wants to move them back to the old country. marcia does not want to go, but her mama insists that there is nothing to stay for. she takes this to mean that she must find something worth staying for.

· her mama hates magyk and marcia doesn’t wish to have an apprenticeship to any wizard who isn’t the extraordinary wizard, so she intends to find something else. something respectable. but no one wants to take her on. she’s not well liked, even at seventeen, but she knows it’s not her brutal honesty and rule challenging that’s disqualifying her from every position she applies to. it’s the color of her skin and the country she is from.

· her mama plans to leave the castle for the old country at the end of the year, which is rapidly approaching. on the day before the last day of the year, marcia’s friend endor has an idea. she protests as endor drags her to the wizard tower that morning. a wizard apprenticeship is only going to solidify her mama’s decision to leave, but endor isn’t listening to her.

· the door wizard refuses to let marcia into the tower. endor can enter just fine. she doesn’t need a pass because she has an ordinary apprenticeship lined up for next year. but marcia has no apprenticeship and no pass, and therefore is denied entry. endor doesn’t give up. they can ask every wizard who passes through the front gates, but marcia snaps at her. this wasn’t ever going to work. even if her mama accepts this, which she won’t, not one wizard is going to offer her an apprenticeship because she is unknown to the magykal community. did endor forget that? wizards don’t take on apprentices they do not know. as she insults wizards and their customs and the tower, she fails to notice that endor’s eyes have widened and that she is no longer paying attention to her until a throat is cleared behind her.

· marcia whirls around and fucking fuck, it is the extraordinary wizard himself. in a strange turn of events, he is amused by her disrespect, someone has highly recommended her for the extraordinary apprenticeship, and he offers it to her then and there. the first word out of her mouth is no, but then she corrects herself. yes, yes please. he writes her a pass for the tower and tells her to stop by his office in the tower later that evening. they’ll make it official and then they’ll have her apprenticeship dinner in the great hall. he walks away and she is miserable.

· endor doesn’t understand her. this is literally everything she has ever wanted, but marcia now has to tell her mama.

· she tries to stay quiet when she gets home. this isn’t just crossing a line with her mama, this is stomping all over it. but she is all tall and no poise, and trips over the packed boxes in the entryway with a resounding crash. “you’re not usually home this early,” says her mama from somewhere further into the apartment. “I thought I’d come home early to pack,” marcia replies, but she is a terrible liar. her mama peeks her head around a stack of boxes. “try again,” she says dryly.

· she takes a deep breath and tells her that she’s received an offer. “weren’t all your applications denied?” her mama interrupts. “not that kind of offer,” marcia says quietly. “the extraordinary wizard has—”

· “no.” her mama disappears into the sea of boxes. “the extraordinary wizard has offered me an apprenticeship,” marcia continues anyway, louder, following her. they argue because the only way the extraordinary wizard could have known about her is if marcia is sneaking off to the wizard tower when she’s skipping class. she insists she hasn’t been—this is the only time she’s been to the tower and it was all endor’s idea, because she doesn’t want to leave her life behind.

· her mama inhales sharply, suddenly unreadable. marcia is uneasy because it is never a good thing when her mama is unreadable. “you have accepted the offer,” her mama states. she doesn’t say a word, but she doesn’t need to. “rescind it,” mama snaps. “you shall not be any wizard’s apprentice.”

· “no.”

· “no?”

· “no,” marcia confirms.

· there is silence. then her mama marches toward her and grabs her arm. “mama!” marcia shrieks, but her mama drags her out of the apartment and all but shoves her into the street. “I will not have magyk in my home,” mama sneers. “you can stay here all you like.”

· the door slams. marcia tries everything to get her to open it, to talk to her, but she never does. so marcia doesn’t look back.

· she goes to endor’s first. she lends her a dress she can wear to her apprentice dinner later that night and helps her fix her hair. she doesn’t ask any questions, but marcia knows she must have several. she is miserable the entire night, something she is certain the extraordinary wizard—alther—must notice. he offers her the spare room in his apartment when the night is over and she lies. she is still living with her mother, she says, knowing full well that her mama will be gone in the morning and that some other family will move into their apartment.

· she doesn’t want to face endor again. endor had held off on her questions the first time, but she won’t the second. she walks all the way to silas heap’s apartment on there and back again row. he doesn’t say anything when he opens the door, nor does he seem surprised to see her in green apprentice overrobes with nothing else to her name. he hadn’t gone to the dinner, so she wasn’t sure if he knew. “it’ll only be one night,” she says, and he sighs and opens the door wider, motioning for her to come in.

· it’s not the first time she’s gone to the heaps to escape her mother, but it is the last. silas doesn’t ask her what happened and she doesn’t tell him.
