DPxDC Liminal Gotham
So, you know all those liminal places and pictures? The empty hallways and forgotten buildings, the places-in-between, the floors that never existed, and alleys that no map can find?
In Amity Park, everyone is used to them. They have spent their whole lives living in a town located in the place where the Veil is thin - no wonder Fentons chose this exact place to punch a hole through reality. Although after the portal was open, the liminal places became even more of an everyday occurrence. At one point, it became absolutely normal to casually mention working on the fifth floor of the building that only has three. Everyone just rolls with it. It's Amity, no one is going to question how, it's just how things are.
But then Danny moves to Gotham. A city that also has a pretty high level of ambient ectoplasm. A sentient city that has its own spirit. All while being the Ghost King, a being that naturally affects the world around him.
And Gotham is not ready for this kind of shit to go down.
Or, well, Lady Gotham knew about it, and she was fine, glad even: after all, it is an honor to house the young King, and she could use some of the cleansing that Danny's mere existence causes. The Gothamites, on the other hand... Well.
People get lost in the streets that never existed before. They receive calls from unknown numbers that speak in the voices of their loved ones who passed away. They meet people - or maybe not people, but they look human enough - from other timelines or realities.
They quickly learn about all kinds of things. They stop looking in the mirrors at night to avoid switching places with their reflection. They carefully count the steps on every staircase since you never know which floor you are going to end up on if you don't. They try not to talk to people if they either don't look you in the eyes or don't seem to be blinking.
The Bats are going absolutely insane. They don't know what happened, they don't know how it happened, and they can't figure it out. Constantine came to the Cave, took one look around and all but noped out of it, saying something about not being paid enough to deal with liminal bullshit.
That is until one day - or should it be called night since it happened on patrol - Tim once again gets lost. He never gets lost in Gotham. But looking around, he sees nothing familiar.
Sure, the rooftop and alleys look kind of recognizable, just enough for him to still know he is in Gotham, but he can't find any kind of street signs. And he can't find his way back. Or forward.
A boy with icy blue eyes taps his shoulder, startling him.
"Red Robin, right?" The boy smiles, "You probably shouldn't be here, nothing worth a vigilante's attention ever happens on the flip side."
"Who are you?"
"Oh, name's Danny. Are you going to find your way back, or do you want me to get you out? The white-eyes are on the riot lately, though, so you might wanna be careful with your left turns."
Tim had found either a source of information or a way to his own death, but at this point he is determined to find out which one is it.
