in my feelings was so good ahhhh i would love to see a part 2 where its the morning after or like tommy slowly showing reader how he rly feels !! deciding they are gonna stay married đđ
yes yes yes!! so grateful for the love on imf tho i kinda wanna mention that itâs highly inspired by in my feelings by lana del rey. so go stream it !! oh and fair warning; this is tooth rotting fluff. do not read if you arenât prepared to swoon.â ď¸ (part one here)
blue velvet𼿠- t, shelby ,,
that night, you and tommy didnât speak another word to one another.
for months, the only times you and him would speak would be when of two things. you would speak either about mundane things, like the weather and plans for the evening.
or, when the two of you fucked.
although he had you often, you were sure he was seeing other women, too. by the lipstick stains on his collars in a shade of red you wouldnât be caught dead wearing and also by the hushed whispering of the maids, feeling pitiful for you.
it killed you, because deep down, behind all the fights and âi hates youâs, you loved him. hatable as he is, yes, but you loved the person he was when he wasnât on his guard, who he was deep down.
but he was always on his guard. there were only a few times you had seen him off of it.
it happened when you were 13. tommy had just turned 15 and a party much like your wedding was thrown for him.
unbeknownst to many, tommy shelby was not a party man. never was, never will be. he was frankly the only person within his hectic family whom possessed that quality.
so, he snuck away from the garrison- where the party was being held- and carefully made his way over to the river bank behind your house.
he didnât know it was your house, honest. simply, he loved the scenery. he loved the sound of the horses happily trotting in their stables and the sound of the dogs chasing each other around the prairie.
there was no fence separating your backyard to the river, and so one of your dogs made his way to the birthday boy who was dangling his legs just above the stream.
âhey, buddy,â he laughed as your dog snuck up behind him, licking his face and neck. he quickly found himself forever petting frankie and scratching behind his ears, too.
he looked around and behind him, but no owner was to be found. he held frankie in his lap, resting his chin atop frankieâs head.
thomas remained like that for a while, occasionally speaking rhetorically to the dog. âtodayâs my birthday, you know. they threw me a party, can you believe it? i wish they knew me well enough to know i absolutely loathe parties.â
frankie was soon asleep in tommyâs arms, breathing serenely.
âfrankie!â your terrified voice called from a distance behind tommy.
he turned around to see your face relax at the sight of your dog safe and sound.
âiâm sorry, is this your house?â he asked, waving to the house and barn in the close distance.
the sun was setting, and the horizon never looked so beautiful as the waning sunlight shined on your face. that was the moment tommy knew heâd met an angel on earth.
the way your toothy smile shined stupidly as you sighed and nodded, being awfully proud of your home.
âoh, iâm sorry. iâll go, i didnât realize i was trespassing. my apologies,â
that had to be the first time you heard of tommy shelby apologizing to another person.
you quickly shook your head. âno, stay. you mind if i sit with you?â you didnât wait for his answer before plopping right down next to him, your legs being even shorter than his as they dangled next to one another.
he looked at you to see if you were joking or just completely oblivious to who he was. then he laughed, figuring he was in much need of some friendly company.
now, this was before you and tommy had ever met. however, you knew of him, of his notorious reputation of being cruel. you knew what people thought of him, but you wanted to know him. to you, he was just misunderstood, and in dire need of a friend.
you two sat there and talked. minutes turned into hours as you talked and talked until the cicadas sung and the blue hueâd moon began her nightly waltz with the silver stars.
he told you about his birthday disaster and his family, about his love for horses and for knowledge.
he laughed, he argued, he listened, he smiled, and he was happy. really, truly, very, happy.
you didnât judge him, didnât hedge or waffle around any subjects in fear of what he might do to you if faced with an opposing opinion. you treated him like a normal person.
âi like you, tommy shelby,â you admitted, the once cool grass beneath you now warm due to your everlasting presence atop the soil.
âi like you too, y/n y/l/n.â
and you met him at the same place everyday after that, just talking. you told him everything about you, all your innermost thoughts and secrets. about your mother and your animals, about your love for history and reading.
and in return, he- eventually- let you know of his vulnerabilities and weaknesses.
from tommy, that was like being gifted the most expensive, purest, most glimmering, block of gold.
his feelings towards you were becoming stronger and stronger each time he returned to the river bank. tommy soon realized he couldnât be around you anymore.
although he told you most of his weaknesses and such, he never told you of one.
you.
he felt a certain way about you, a feeling he couldnât shake. he was growing weak, and thomas shelby could not be weak.
- and he wasnât planning on it, so he just⌠stopped showing up.
for weeks, you would wait for him at sunset by the stream behind the stables, but he never showed again.
and when you became friends with ada and often visited her home, he would avoid you like the plague. it confused and angered you. how could someone go from so warm to so cold in less than a month?
you gave up on it soon after, figuring you wouldnât chase after anything thatâs running.
as a result, you ignored him just as he ignored you.
up until year 9.
you always wondered what happened, what caused him to become so cold to you when he was just letting you in.
it was too late now to simply ask, so you were left to be forever in the dark.
tommy came home late that night, as he did every night. yet another confirmation of his infidelity.
you sighed to yourself, forcing a semi-smile on your face as you walked out of the drawing room to greet your husband.
âhello, thomas,â you smiled through gritted teeth, trying your hardest to maintain a smile as he scowls at your sudden appearance.
âalright, then. iâll be reading if you need me, i suppose,â he nodded dismissively at you, and all sense of respect you tried to hold for him, drained in an instant.
your smile dropped and you rolled your eyes with a grimace when you walk away, not even bothering to spare him another glance.
by the time dinner was served, you hadnât seen tommy once.
you ate alone, as thomas was busy in his office. you sighed after you finished your meal, grabbing a clean dish and fixing tommy a plate.
your heels clacked against the wooden tiles beneath your feet as you made your way to thomasâs office, plate in hand.
you knocked twice, not bothering to wait for his response before walking into the study.
âyou missed dinner, thomas,â you placed the food before him on the desk, disregarding the important paperwork and documents you sat it atop.
he sighed, looked down at the plate, then up at you through his gold-rimmed glasses.
âiâm sorry? is that what you want to hear?â he continued working studiously, secretly willing you to leave him alone.
it took everything not to set fire to that desk.
âwhyâd you come home so late? hm?â you asked softly, but wished to scream.
âthere was work that needed to be done,â said tommy nonchalantly.
you laughed. like, genuinely laughed. âhuh. work that needed do be done at brothels?â
he looked annoyed, like you were some bothersome pest. âwhy do you care? you really expect some faithful husband from me? youâre the one who wanted this to be an arrangement,â
you opened your mouth to yell back but realized he was right.
no, this marriage is not one you want. so? was that his fault? it wasnât, but you so badly wanted it to be, because how could he have stolen your heart then abandon it like breathing? and get away with it?
it was then you realized you were crying. tommy suddenly rose from his desk. âoh, i-iâm sorry. i didnât-fuck- i didnât mean to make you cry,â
he tried to approach you, put his arms around you, but you turned around and put your arm out, signaling for him to stop.
ây/n, iâm sorry. really, iâm sorry. please donât cry,â he ignored your request for him to stay away and wrapped his arms around you.
you tried to push him off of you, but he just kept holding you.
he let you fall into his chest and collapse on the ground.
âwhy?â you croaked out, looking up at him through wet lashes, your nose rosey and cheeks stained.
âwhat?â he was confused, but continued to run his fingers through your hair.
you sniffled and rose to your feet again, thomas following suit.
âwhy did you stop coming to the river bank?! why did you leave me alone just when you finally began to let me in?!â
you were hitting him now, pounding your fists on his chest, and he was annoyingly unaffected.
âwhat? sweetheart, slow down,â
your heart was pounding in your ears and you felt your heart drop to your toes when you heard that. tommy hasnât called you anything but your name since the river bank. and at the river bank, his favorite nickname for you was sweetheart.
insanely enough, you started laughing through your tears. laughing because you were confused? hurt? you donât know, all you know is for some reason, this is all fucking hIlarious.
tommyâs confused, more confused than you, probably. ây/n, what is so funny?â he approached you again, and this time youâre too wrapped up in your head to care or stop him.
all of a sudden, the pain hits you again, with the force of a train, and you are desperate for closure.
âdo you know how long i waited for you? every day, by the river?â your eyes were drying now, and anger was overtaking you.
he blinks and suddenly itâs like he finally understands the seven wonders of the world. âfuck, is that why youâre upset?â
you couldnât help but stare at his stupidity. âthomas, you led me on for weeks, weeks! and then you stop showing up, because, iâm presuming, i grew boring? or you found some new, young, prettier, thing? you could have told me!â cried your weakening voice.
he opens his mouth to speak, but you arenât done. âi guess not much has changed. iâm still so boring to you? you still need other women although iâm ruining my life being with you, isnât that ri-â
he abruptly cut you off âfuck, y/n! itâs because iâm ln love with you!â
your attention was immediately all on him.
âyou⌠what?â
âthe reason i stopped coming to the river bank in because iâm in love with you. the reason i go to the brothels is because i am so fucking in love with you and i canât be! i know, i know, you donât love me too, okay? i know this is but an arrangement, i know. but, please understand that it kills me to pretend like i donât,â
you couldnât believe what you were hearing, the word âloveâ sounding foreign from thomas.
âthatâs doesnât make any sense. why would you stop seeing me if you loved me, start seeing other women?â
now he was scoffing at your ignorance. âdonât you get it? i canât afford to be in love, not when i have the biggest bounty in the city on my head. i canât put that danger on you, iâd die before. also, it scares me, quite frankly,â he whispers the last part.
you couldnât hold back the twitching smile on your lips. âwhy didnât you say anything?â whispered you softly.
he chuckled lightly. âyou know yourself, youâd never had given up on me,â
you tilted your head in a âtouchĂŠâ manner.
âi do love you too, you know. in case you couldnât tell,â
a short silence whisked in the air like a winters breath.
âcâmere, sweetheart.â his voice beckoned you over towards him.
you slung your arms around his shoulders. âwhat if we⌠didnât divorce?â
you smiled up at him before kissing him. âi think thatâs a good idea.â

Can I ask for your thoughts on why the Syndicate should be disbanded?
The Syndicate as it is can stay together because realistically it hasn't done much at all and it's as if it never existed, so I see why some people would be 'meh' about it.
Howeber, if we look at its core ideology, aka dear leader Technoblade, we see that it is deeply controlling and authoritarian. Him being in charge of anything makes me ill at ease and I would rather he stayed in his cabin forver.
1. Technoblade, in his firm belief that no one should tell others what to do with their lives is telling what others should do with their lives. By using strength, threats and coercion. A true hero. To start with he has no right to found a Syndicate- he has no right to dictate what others can and cannot do no matter how noble the intentions. It's not how things work, especially since take into account that we can count the members of each individual faction on our fingers. The Syndicate aims to control everyone's actions and that's very Technoblade.
2. It's formed by four to five people out of thirty three. That's 15% if the overall population. Three of those five have Wither Skulls in their possession as well as plenty of materials- in short, they're the richest of the rich with nuclear bombs going after people like Tommy who lives in a dirt house. Doesn't that make anyone else go hmmmmm, or is it just me? (and yes they are against Tommy, the average L'manburg enjoyer) Not to mention that two members (Niki and Ranboo) have no interest in being there, Ranboo is there just in case Technoblade finds about his marriage with Tubbo "Government" Underscore, and does something that Ranboo fully believes he will. Yes the Syndicate should absolutely be disbanded, if only for Michael's sake who is innocent and even has Phil worried for him.
3. He actively goes into other people's houses ala gestapo to inspect their property and confiscate anything "dangerous" they "shouldn't have" and that's reprehensible. Literally Dream and Schlatt did that. "Tubbo has nukes tho." Yeah and so does Technoblade, I love how everyone just forgets about the 120 Wither Skulls currently in his possession. Would Technoblade let Tubbo do an inspection in his property as he did? No. So that's hypocrisy for the long list of faults. And before someone gets a nefarious thought, Tubbo was justified in searching Philza's house, one of the three perpetrators of Doomsday. I think people forget what terrorism means sometimes because Technoblade says it so flippantly. There are rules and they apply for everyone, not just when Technoblade wants them to.
4. He is not actually an anarchist and the Syndicate has no other plans other than Government bad- which is counterproductive and damaging. :O I hear the gasps. I'm right though. Anarchists actually believe in things like communes and mutual aid and like... don't witch hunt human beings for gathering in settlements? When has he proposed any alternative to the poor delusional slaves living in L'manburg? When has he uttered the words cooperation or commune? It's easy to make a crater out of someone's home if they don't agree, but it's simply unimaginable to offer some sort of asylum or a guide to them huh? From the citizens of L'manburg's POV Technoblade practically strolled in and told everyone to disperse or else. He's all about destroying infrastructures, but has put in 0 hours of humanitarian work- the whole point of anarchism. It's like rescuing someone from drowning and leaving them abandoned in the middle of the desert, but then it turns out that someone was actually just diving. I'd spit on his face too.
5. In his mind three groups exist. 1. Him and Philza, mighty illuminated gods as the ideal of morality that can never do no wrong and always know what's best. 2. Government, everyone who has ever told anyone to do something, humanoid representations of an abstract thought. Must be expunged from the face of the earth. 3. Slave, weak homeless orphans who don't know what's good for them, but he won't hesitate to curb stomp if they get in his way by using any means necessary including the Syndicate. I hate that and I wish someone found a way to transport him back in pre-lmanburg dsmp with an empty inventory just so he sees what's it like.
6. There is no government in the smp, actually. Technoblade made it up. In his words not everyone who gathers together, lives together and has a leader is a government. "That's like saying book clubs are a government." So he agrees that L'manburg build upon cooperation, mutual aid with the grand total of nine members max at any given time is not actually a government just because they call themselves that for different historical reasons right? Right????? On the topic of labels. He can claim the term "anarchist" despite not following the ideology's basic principles, so he should allow the same with people like Tubbo (who did more than the Syndicate ever will for the lower classes of the server such as providing housing and help), right? He can be hand-wavy with the basics and the terms and whatever, but L'manburg with their "president" couldn't?
"There are structures of power though." Yeah so does the Syndicate. L'manburg and the Syndicate are literally one and the same no matter how much he wants to twist it. Do you think that Technoblade would let anyone else but him dictate what to do, or keep the Wither Skulls? No.
7. When has he used physical force, or the Syndicate's powers for the benefit of anyone but himself? When has he actually saved someone from the evil clutches of Government? When has he done any good with the god-like powers he possesses? Never. Never ever ever. All he's done is hurt others. Even Dream cared about the smp members at some point or something. He doesn't deserve to have the Syndicate at his beck and call.
8. Technoblade has no idea what the fuck he's talking about, actually. He has zero understanding of the events prior, during or post his arrival to the server. He lives in a bubble and refuses to cooperate or at least investigate others. Is that the man you want in charge of a powerful group tasked with... uh... fighting Governments? Man isn't even aware of the actual power structure of the server- am I supposed to root for him? He called Schlatt a rightfully elected president and is helping Dream, it has to be satire I'm not understanding. The Syndicate is nothing but a small footnote to the sham that is Technoblade's entire philosophy.
So in conclusion, the Syndicate is nothing but a tool for an egoistical destructive man and it absolutely deserves to shrivel up and die like the thoughtless, cruel and exploitative organization it is if it ever decides to show up and do something.
/nm i just hate pig man. just in case

In terms of your series of what happened to the characters after Dunkirk: what would you suggest the probability of Tommy surviving in a POW camp would be? Brief research suggests that around 7,000 British POWs were killed of 200,000 captured - obviously these are approximations, not exact statistics, and as someone whose expertise lies in a different area of history I defer to your judgement. I just wondered how your idea of Tommyâs self-sacrificing nature extended to the possibility of capture
Ooooh, excellent question!
Okay, so first off Iâm just going to say that regular Nazi POW camps are not something that I have super specific knowledge in. I have better knowledge of the Luftwaffe run POW camps (because I worked at a museum for three years in the town where the first Canadian WWII POW lived [he was captured before Canada was even in the war, bless] and he was held in Stalag Luft III, so I know his specific accounts of live in a Luftwaffe-run POW camp for six years) and concentration camps (super fun times studying the Holocaust for four semesters while doing my BA). So, with that said, if anyone who has studied Nazi POW camps wants to better explain this, please jump in!Â
Now for my answer!
I think Tommy actually has some pretty high chances of surviving a POW camp, like way better odds in surviving the war.Â
So as Dunkirk does SUCH A GOOD JOB SHOWING, German soldiers in WWII acted a lot like vicious, angry, cruel children (especially at the beginning of the war before Hitler decided invading the USSR was a brilliant idea). These were kids who were born in a totally impoverished, devastated Germany where money was so useless people literally were using it for kindling in their houses. Germans were literally brewing âcoffeeâ from dirt and like ground, dried beans in the 1920s and everyone was starving to death. These German kids then have their formative teenage years influenced by Hitler coming to power. Hitler was sooooo persuasive and seductive to these devastated Germans because he basically said âWe are suffering not because we did something wrong, but because we were betrayed. We have been destroyed by the English and by the Frenchâall your money has gone to them. All your food has gone to them. You are devastated because of them. You have been living in poverty and starvation because of them. Because of the Treaty of Versailles you have grown up in absolute devastation. And who signed the Treaty of Versailles? Jewish-German leaders.â Obviously the Jewish-German leaders bit was a lie piggybacking off of the âstab in the backâ myth post-WWI, but you see how Hitler did it. He gave the German people, ESPECIALLY THE YOUTH, a very clear outlet for their anger. So Hitler then spent the next six years fostering this anger, giving it purpose with an outlet being âBecome the best military and we will take back what they stole from usâ.Â
So when you see the German soldiers toying with Tommy in the opening scene of Dunkirk (carefully taking out all of the other soldiers to terrify him, taunting him by making him run and shooting at his feet but not actually hitting him, shooting from different angles so he has no clue where theyâre coming from) you are seeing the outlet of this lifetime of anger and resentment. They see a British soldier. They see a British person who got to live in peace and prosperity and enjoy his youth, and they want to punish him for the youth they did not get because he stole it from them.Â
So, with all this said, in the POW camps you did get a lot of cruel people who would purposefully torture Allied soldiers because they were angry and resentful and wanted to make these people pay for their devastating childhood.Â
Where Tommy is going to be able to survive in all of this is his ability to keep his head down and just compact himself so heâs as small as possible to keep attention away from him. The soldiers who were running the camps want to take their anger out on loud, cocky people. Tommy is not one of those people. Tommy keeping his head down is going to allow him to go relatively unnoticed by his captors and thus make it to liberation. Tommy also has the good instincts on sensing when things are going to turn quickly, and so in Dunkirk we see him trying to take preventative measures in mitigating the fall out of these situations. This, also, is going to really increase his odds in surviving.Â
Where Tommyâs brand of quiet heroism is going to get him in trouble in a POW camp is if he helps someone who got singled out and is caught doing so. Yes, Tommy is heroic, Tommy is willing to make sacrifices to help people, but typically his survival senses overrule those. So, Tommy isnât going to be making any big, visible, heroic sacrifices (that is probably more up Farierâs alley). Tommy is going to be making small sacrifices like probably slipping someone else some of his food or working more to cover someone elseâs inability to meet a work quota. And Tommy will largely be able to get away with this, but itâs gonna get him in trouble if someone in charge sees this and is feeling particularly vicious. Thats how Tommy would make himself a target, and probably end up getting himself killed.Â
Ultimately, tho, I think that if Tommy wound up in a POW camp, that would be his best chance at surviving the war. (ridiculously long answer, but there you have it, you got a nerd to ramble)
#dunkirk#tommy dunkirk#fionn whitehead#you got a history nerd to ramble#so i would say i'm sorry about the long answer but i am not#post dunkirk series
