Babe i am kicking my feet and nodding along to ALL of this.
Your tags tho are chef’s kiss perfect because #i genuinely think it does a disservice to rest of the cast of characters to act as if they wouldn’t completely understand #the exact reason why batman couldnt kill the joker in revenge beyond his his no kill rule #youre seriously gonna sit there and tell me journalist clark kent doesnt understand the inevitable fallout of batman breaking his one rule? #are we talking about the same guy? because the clark i know the kal-el that i know is fully aware of the domino effect that #batman killing someone would have #the superman i know would physically restrain batman from killing the joker to prevent his friend from starting that domino effect
I bring it up a lot because i do think it should be remembered, but not because I’m “mad” that Clark held Bruce back from killing the Joker - i agree with all of his reasons for doing so!! But since the “you didnt kill him” is so often used as a shorthand for “you didnt love me enough to kill him”, the fact that Superman - Superman - had to be the one holding Bruce back is important! The fact that after that rage somewhat died down Bruce was able to see the consequences and agree with Clarks assessment doesnt take away from that.
And i do wonder if a Bruce who was truly alone, no Alfred no Dick no Babs, would the idea of destroying Batman, the symbol (of hope, of second chances, of a morning that doesnt dawn on dead bodies but instead opportunities and a fresh start) be as important to him? Its why Zach Snyders Batman, despite being nothing like my ideal Batman, works as a possibility. Bruce has nothing and no one to uphold that legacy for, no wonder he’s sliding like that!
(Also im almost sure i said that thing about Joker dying and becoming a kind of martyr/copycat figure. Dont know if you saw it from me tho lol.)
I do disagree with Jason being scared both of dying again and of Joker, just because its even funnier and more tragic to me if the only reason Jason is keeping Joker alive is so Bruce can someday kill him, as some kind of final test to prove his love.
I dont think Jason realizes that he’s quite literally asking Bruce to kill the version of Bruce that loves him when he does that
ok time to be negative again i cannot stand the trope “character x finds out bruce ““let”” his sons murderer live and chews him out then goes to kill joker” because 60% of the time its a character who has an independent no kill rule, and absolutely zero business yelling at Bruce about anything. Fuck ooooooffffff with the guilt tripping about bruce not committing murder!!!!!
