YEAH. I also like silas but both him and marcia were both definitely not at their best in magyk. I can,, not Excuse but Understand his "any decent eow would've gotten rid of the custodians" thing because a) even if marcias had it Worst, silas hasn't exactly had it Good and being stressed and tired can make u say horrible things (and also. He doesn't Know most of the specific stresses Marcia is under. She puts effort into not letting anyone know. It's not silas's fault it's working), b) he's not actually been at the tower for the past 10 years? (Somehow?? Doesn't he work there??? Idk) And assuming that the wizard tower never like. Directly attacked the custodians. Its not entirely unreasonable to think they didn't try anything? Especially since anything they DID do would probably have been very secret. c) again. Silas hasn't been at the tower for 10 years. He most likely doesn't have any idea that Endor was one of like 3 people Marcia trusts and possibly was her only friend. d) there has 100% been custodian propaganda abt marcia going around for the entire 10 years, and as well as sarah being bffs w sally probably means that most of what silas has heard abt marcia in the last 10 years has been Not Good at best. Anyway all this to say that Silas WAS undeniably being rlly shitty but like. I get it. I'd probably not be very nice either tbh

I know Silas is a fan fav; but at the beginning of Magyk I HATE this man. During the assassination attempt and subsequent fleeing I think you could reasonably argue that Marcia is having the worst time of anyone in the party (if she is second to anyone it’s Sep, and even then it’s close). This woman has relived the worst day of her life, gotten stinky and slimy (and we all know she’s ND so that would be hell) and then harnessed so much magyk she almost ceased to be a human while everyone acted like she was doing nothing that hard at all, in order to save everyone’s lives for a SECOND time in this sequence of events (and don’t forget in all of this she also managed to save Sally Mullin too).

Then, just as she thought they might be safe for a bit (it’s midnight on this beach and she was awoken very early by alther if you recall from the Scene of Hair Curlers™️, so she’s probably creeping up on 20 hours of being awake) Alther comes and tells her 1) the one terrible thing she thought she’d done enough to stop happening had, in fact, happened. 2) the only person we hear Marcia mention with any kind of positive attitude; and by extension, someone she could trust, is dead. 3) that person was murdered as a direct result of number 1. 4) Not only has this insane sociopath that would very much like her dead not only invaded her place of work, that clearly makes up part of her identity, but also 5) moved into her HOME (siri play my tears ricochet by taylor swift) which is an absolute violation.

The Very Short List of people Marcia trusts and cares about gets another person on it murdered, and Marcia does not have the time to mourn her AT ALL because she knows she needs to focus on how she can undo this mess without causing the death of a ten year old girl. And what does Silas say? ‘The custodians are simply a load of thugs any *decent* ExtraOrdinary Wizard would have seen off years ago’. Be so fucking real right now. Fuck you man. She saved your sorry arse TWICE. She kept you and your family alive for TEN YEARS. SHES THE ONLY REASON YOU DIDN’T WATCH YOUR TEN Y/O KID GET VIOLENTLY MURDERED. SIT TF DOWN.

im am cracking up at the thought of ellie getting her first gf and trying to get some advice from joel and red. like ellie really wants things to go well w/ her and joel and red are the only people she would feel comfortable asking, but i just know red and joel would accidentally make the whole thing awkward and ellie would lowkey regret asking. god i love my fav emotionally constipated family 💓

Joel had never looked like he was dying on the inside more than that moment. It was a moment of many firsts. Sarah hadn't quite made it to the point where boys were a discussion so he never had to talk about it with her, thankfully. And back then he only had to look big and imposing and maybe bring Tommy along with him to the school pickup lines to deter any boys.

Now, he was having to sit in a whole new world, twenty years later, while his new surrogate daughter stumbled her way through talking about a friend who he was quickly catching on wasn't just a friend. It took him a while to figure out that's where the conversation was going because while Ellie wasn't necessarily girlie, he was almost certain he was going to have to deal with that boy Jesse asking her out. Turns out it wasn't Jesse he was having to worry about. It was Mia. Red looked equally nervous and anxious, though not surprised. It was more because Ellie was starting to ask their opinion now. Opinions on maybe asking this girl out. The three of them were equally uncomfortable. "I just...wanted to see if you two had any advice? On, like, telling her I'd like to go with her to movie nights or the community party next week or something?" Ellie's face was red and her hands were flat on the table in front of her, eyes diverted but flickering up to them as the silence stretched. Joel looked at Red and quickly saw the panic in her eyes and the slight shrug of "don't fucking look at me." "Um, kiddo, you're like wanting to ask her out on a date?" he tentatively asks though he knows that's exactly what she's asking. He needs to hear it confirmed because he's not about to put his foot in his mouth. His mind is still trying to wrap around that its girls he's going to have to deal with, not guys, and how the fuck do you scare off girls in the apocalypse? It's not like he can put his shotgun out, everyone fucking had a shotgun. Girls were ballsier than boys when it came to dads and he couldn't go around scaring them off easily. Ellie fumbles though at his direct question, face growing brighter red, "I mean- no- yes, kinda? Look I know it's weird-" "It's not weird," Red quickly cuts her off forcefully, teeth clenched, "It's fine-" "Yeah, totally not weird," Joel joins in, both their voices overlapping, "You like girls and that's fine and we're fine with it-" "You can like boys too, you can like both or everyone, whatever you want-" "Doesn't matter, as long as they respect you and down the line, like way way down the line, you're safe-" "Oh god," Ellie is shoving her face in her hands, "That's not at all what I want to talk about! Can't you just tell me how you asked other people out?" There was a hesitant silence. Joel didn't want to tell her that his previous attempts at dating were all in bars on liquid courage and his last actual relationship before Red was with Sarah's mom who he married when he was barely twenty-one after getting her knocked up. And he knew Red's was twenty years ago with her high school sweetheart of six years whose face she shot off.

They both had fumbled their way together through hate sex so that wasn't going to get brought up at all. "You see, I..." Joel started then drifted off, not quite sure where to progress.

"Um," Red winced and stared at him with panicked eyes, visibly trying to think back and coming up empty, "You could have a friend ask her? Or...have you tried a card?" "You two are the fucking worst," Ellie groaned.
