Not fic: Cursed Twilight addition

So I’m about to have my BNHA rights revoked but I just finished Midnight Sun (at the time when I started writing this) and started thinking about the characters and that Rosalie and Bakugo are weirdly similar so now here I am outlining a Twilight Au that no one asked for (except me but I’m garbage) that I will never write because I can’t focus long enough to write an actual story (fun fact this outline is taking months to complete). To be honest though this is more of a background on all the characters as opposed to an outline of the Twilight story (oops) which may or may not come later. Author’s notes are in parenthesis if you haven’t figured that out.

Basically I’m replacing Twilight characters with BNHA characters, not everyone will have the same back story, it’ll be blended(future me: um so that was a lie). Everyone’s quirks are still mostly the same but as their vampire gift with some variation to fit the word. It still takes place in the Pacific north-west because I’m not super sure if there’s a place as cloudy as there in Japan besides the mountains like Mt.Fuji (but that’s more misty I think) but there’s too many people around places like that I feel. But then again I’m not actually writing this whole fic so you’re welcome to imagine them still in Japan. If I did write this as a fic I would actually do proper research to decide where to put them but meh, this is a not-fic. As it is I’m calling the town it would take place in Forks/Crossroads cause that would be a cool alternative name. The backgrounds take place all over the word but I never actually say where. My bad.

Also if you do read this I love you very much and I am so sorry, this is ramble-y and has way too many run-on sentences and is written as if I were speaking to you as opposed to an actual written story. It’s also taken so long to complete things I wasn’t sure about in the beginning become solidified later but it’s also written out of order so probably reads really bad. Again my apologies.

So the characters are as follows:

The Olympic Coven/Cullens - The Might Coven/Aizawa-Yagis

Carlisle Cullen- Toshinori Yagi

So obviously I made Toshi Carlisle because suave blond everyone loves is both of their MO. Toshi is probably around 500 years old and like Carlisle was turned while hunting vampires. I still want him to have two forms but I’m not entirely sure how to do that within the confines of the Twilight universe. Maybe he was injured in a battle where he literally lost parts of himself and can’t fully heal so he’s become weak but still can’t die? He’s a doctor but might be semi-retired because of his injury, the cover story is an undisclosed chronic illness. He’s also a part time stay at home dad. He definitely used his vampirism to help and protect humans in the past.

Probably had a coven when he was younger with Nana and Torino but Nana was killed and Torino sent Toshi away for his own safety. He may or may not have started out as vegetarian, I can see Nana as veg or only eats bad people, Torino is an eats bad guys type but will eat anyone when pressed. Toshi either started out as a vegetarian before meeting Nana or if she found him immediately and took him in he would go animal based pretty quickly, She always respected his lifestyle. Grand Torino respects it to an extent but now that Toshi is hurt wants him to drink from humans because he thinks it’ll help Toshinori heal or at least be better for his body. He was in his 40s when turned.

Esme Cullen- Shouta Aizawa

It should surprise literally no one that I’m making this Erasermight because I am soft for my boys and anything is an excuse to ship them. Shouta is honestly the person who has taken the longest to work out along with Shinsou. Like so, so, long. These two are also related, they’re cousins or uncle/nephew or something. They’re also the most different from their counterparts, probably because it’s taken so long for me to work their stories out I’ve just completely changed them from original Twilight.

So the time period is really vague with him, it’s either the late 1800s or WWI. Hitoshi was an orphan around the age of 12 and Shouta his guardian is 30-31. Either way there was a war (and I looked at the wars in the second half of the 1800s, it’s just so many wars. What is wrong with this world?) and it could have easily been the civil war (and if so they were Unionist, obviously.) But wherever he and Hitoshi lived there was a war happening and he was probably not in the army at the time, just protecting his home and neighbors. At the same time Toshinori and Izuku were in the area trying to help civilians because wars suck and they’re basically un-killable so they can help and with the chaos of everything if someone started to suspect something of them they could fake their deaths and leave. And they probably did. But while traveling through they stop in a town/village and meet Shouta and Hitoshi.

Shouta is his gruff no nonsense self and Hitoshi is a little in awe of Yagi because this is still pre-injury so he’s this huge imposing man who’s gentle and knowledgeable about medicine. Eventually even Shouta comes around to liking Yagi, who has the nickname All Might because of his strength, even though he thinks his over the top enthusiasm in front of others is exhausting. In private Toshi ends up letting his guard and persona down with Aizawa because he realizes he doesn’t have to keep it up, he doesn’t need to make Aizawa like and trust him the way he does with the others, it’s just natural the way they click. Toshi probably fell in love first, vampires fall in love fast and long and all encompassing in a way that if they were human would be rather unhealthy (and probably is anyway because this is fiction but I don’t really care because this is fiction and I relate to unhealthy love way too much). Shouta was more reserved because he is a cautious man by nature and probably loves in a similar but more healthy way to vampires, long and devoted, but he must be careful to whom he gives his heart. I still don’t think he meant to fall for Toshinori, loving a man in the time that they lived was dangerous and inadvisable if one could avoid it. But Toshinori Yagi is the kind of man one cannot help but loving.

They didn’t tell each other how they felt though. A few months after Izuku and Toshinori’s arrival there was an attack on the town, Hitoshi they found safe but Toshinori caught wind of Shouta’s scent and followed, finding him mortally wounded. Desperate to keep him Toshi turned him and split off from Izuku and Hitoshi while Shouta adjusted to vampire life. They quickly became lovers, though Shouta had a brief stint as a human blood drinker as revenge for the destruction of his village. But it started to test their relationship and in the end Toshi and his own morals were more important to him than human blood. The four of them reunite a year later and they try to keep their relationship a secret but both of the boys figure it out pretty quickly. Izuku accepts it immediately because his dad is finally with someone and is happy while it takes Hitoshi a bit of time because period typical homophobia and it’s going to take a while for Yagi to earn his trust back after turning Aizawa in front of him.

Aizawa has an erasure power same as in canon. Since he doesn’t need to blink he’s a bit op but opponents who are faster than his eyes can track and multiple opponents are his weaknesses. He’s a history teacher at Forks/Crossroads high but purposefully does not have his own kids as students. He’s a mystery to most of his colleagues who probably haven’t even figured out he’s got five kids in the school.

Rosalie Hale- Katsuki Bakugo

Bakugo has a pretty similar start to Rosalie but because what happened to her is so awful and I have problems doing that even to fictional characters that part is different. He’s still a rich kid from the early 20th century, probably turned in the 1920s, but he and his explosive temperament pissed off the wrong people who jumped him in an alley and beat him almost to death, like actually thought he was dead so they left him there (I know this isn’t that much better than what happened to Rose but man she had a horrific end to her human life). He was around 17-18 when he was turned.

While human he had met Dr. Yagi, who was probably treating one of his parents for a chronic ailment, along with his son Izuku and his ‘companion’ Aizawa and Aizawa’s ward Hitoshi. All of the others gave him the creeps but Izuku was a relatively normal boy, a bit younger than himself and accompanied his father when visiting the Bakugos. Their relationship is pretty much the same as canon where Izuku likes Bakugo a lot and Bakugo is nothing but awful to him. They end up with a sort of ‘I hate you but you’re my best friend’ relationship except neither actually hates the other. When Yagi finds Bakugo half dead in an alley he turns him because he was weirdly fond of the angry young man and more so because he thought that the relationship between the two boys was growing into something more, he and Izuku hadn’t talked about it, as he was waiting for his son to come to him, and he didn’t have time to ask. He realizes later that no, Katsuki and Izuku are not star crossed lovers like he and Shouta but he can’t say he regrets turning Bakugo other than Bakugo’s own hatred of being a vampire. He loves his angry son okay.

Bakugo had a life goal which was probably taking over the family business though based off canon that would be fashion and I can’t see him interested in that. Whatever it was he was pursuing it with the same single mindedness that he possesses for heroism and since he can no longer achieve his goals as a vampire he resents it along with the fact that the decision to become a vampire or die a human was taken away from him. He does have a good relationship with Toshinori and Shouta even though he still acts like a brat. His cover story is that he’s Toshinori’s cousin’s son and is an orphan who they took in. He kept his family’s name.

Like a number of vampires Bakugo has a talent or gift. His is his incredibly powerful and dangerous explosion ability. He can cause explosions from his palms. So far the League has not discovered him but everyone worries that one day they will and the Might Coven will be hunted and slaughtered for Bakugo’s power.

Emmett Cullen- Eijirou Kirishima

Sometime around the 1930s Bakugo was hunting and found a bleeding almost dead Kirishima. It was either an animal attack like canon or an accident where he fell off a cliff (that feels like something he would do). I don’t think he decided to turn Kirishima, he just smelled blood and lost control. He’s still ashamed about how he reacted to this day as he’s typically better than that around humans. Luckily the others were hunting with him and were able to pull Bakugo off. He’s never held what Bakugo did against him and his enthusiasm and friendship actually endeared him to Katsuki despite his guilt. Eijirou was turned at 19 and has never had issues with being a vampire, it sucks that he had to leave his human family behind but he loves his vampire one just as much and he got the love of his life out of it. It took awhile but Katsuki and Eijirou eventually admit their feelings and they start dating. They’ve been married a few times now because Bakugo is extra and Eijirou loves confessing his love.

With Kirishima’s gift it doesn’t work the same as in cannon where you can tell it’s activated. In fact they still might not know Kiri has a gift or if they do it’s only a suspicion. He’s just harder than the other marble like vampires. Where the others have almost certainly had mild injuries (mostly from Bakugo’s explosions) like cracks that heal immediately, Eijirou has never been injured as a vampire. At all. He’s also immensely strong, because he was as a human, and that has been enhanced but he’s nowhere near as strong as Toshi was pre-injury. His cover story is he’s a foster kid they took in and he keeps the last name Kirishima.

Alice Cullen- Denki Kaminari

Like Alice Denki spent the end of his human life in an insane asylum (I refer to it as such because these were not hospitals and more like institutions of torture). I honestly can’t figure out if mental health care was so bad in the early/mid 20th century that a 15-16 year old boy with ADHD being sent to one is unrealistic or not. I’m pretty sure it was similar to Alice where he saw something he shouldn’t and was put in it to silence him.( I should probably figure out what that was sometime) Either way that’s where he ended up and of course he had to deal with electroshock ‘therapy’ which both severely messed with his memory and sorta brought out a natural resistance and even control over electricity, so he had to receive stronger and stronger sessions. This manifested in Denki’s electric power when he was turned into a vampire.

While hunting in the woods surrounding the institution, Hitoshi spotted Denki in the window and was instantly taken by the boy with eyes as golden as his inhuman family’s. He would make trips by the asylum just to get a glimpse and eventually took a night job there to meet him against his family’s advice. When they met Denki recognized him despite how careful, and honestly far away, Hitsohi had been and instead of being creeped out he was happy just to make a new friend. They would talk as long as they could and Hitoshi would bring Denki little bits of the outside world like flowers or decent snacks. And he would take care of Kaminari when his ‘therapies’ would leave him incapacitated and the nursing staff would neglect him.

Even after his family moved away to a location where the weather suited them better Hitoshi stayed working at the asylum not willing to leave Denki to his fate there (And to note this is around the time the others realized how serious Hitoshi’s feelings are and start planning how to help Kaminari or bring him into the family. Before this they were starting to suspect but kinda thought he was being weird about a guy he saw in a window. To be fair though he was being weird about a guy he saw in a window.) One night after an ice bath ‘treatment’ Denki developed a fever and over the course of a few days had full blown pneumonia. In his delirium he confessed his feelings to Shinsou who reciprocated and decided he would steal Denki away when he knew the trip back to his family wouldn’t kill the sick boy. Of course being a poorly run and over populated institution his condition was overlooked and ignored especially since a ‘specialist’ was coming to perform procedures on several patients, aka some guy with no degree was going to lobotomize as many people as he could fit into one day. Shinsou didn't find out until he came in that night and found out Kaminari was already in the procedure room. He flipped out and killed most of the staff there and took a severely injured Denki home to Toshinori in the hopes of saving him.

The change seemed to take longer than it had for the others but does end up working, though when he finally comes to Denki is much more quiet and subdued and remembers almost nothing about his past. All he knows is his name, Hitoshi’s name, and that he loves him. He also has weird headaches periodically for decades later and slowly becomes more like himself before the lobotomy. He never fully recovers his memories, a bit here and a piece there, all moments shared with Hitoshi. He decides he doesn’t need the rest, everything he needs is here and in his future with his family.

His cover story is typically as a foster kid so he keeps his last name Kaminari. Sometimes he decides to change things up and goes as a Yagi or even Bakugo’s brother when Katsuki is feeling generous.

Jasper Hale- Hitoshi Shinsou

Hitoshi’s early years were spent in his small town or village (I think the difference is size but I’m american and I don’t think we have villages no matter how small a place is so...) Everything was uneventful up until the war, I don’t know which war, civil war in US or WWI in Europe, but around the age of 12 his village was destroyed, his guardian was turned into a vampire and he had to go live with Izuku while Aizawa learned to manage his bloodlust. During that time he and Izuku grew really close and even now they have the most brotherly relationship out of all the siblings.

So after a year the four reunite with a vampire Shouta and an overly protective Izuku and a very weary Hitoshi. Everything goes on as it did for Toshinori and Izuku before they split but now with their two new additions. Yagi gives Hitoshi the best education he can without sending him to boarding school although they had discussed it. They were in a precarious position with a human boy knowing their vampire secret and they couldn’t run the risk of news getting back to the League, the governing body of vampires run by a mysterious head known only as All for One.

Years pass but unfortunately news of the Might Coven’s human pet gets back to the League and due to past history involving Nana and Toshi, AfO comes himself to deal with the situation and brings his two most powerful underlings, his adopted son and second in command Tomura Shigaraki and . A fight between Yagi and All for One happens and AfO rips out a piece of Toshi’s side and Toshi ends up crushing AfO’s head, killing him (maybe but probably not). Tomura, who had been fighting against Shouta and Toga who battled Izuku, realize they can’t win.

Now the vampire known as All Might is pretty popular amongst his kind but the Might Coven was at the time nowhere near strong enough or influential enough to fill the void that would be left by the dissolution of the League, which would happen if they killed all three of the vampires there. So they took a gamble and spared Shigaraki and Toga thinking their loyalty to AfO was limited, since most vampires don’t form bonds the way ‘vegetarians’ seem to, and that they would be happy with their promotion. They also agreed at Hitoshi’s insistence that he would be turned so they would no longer have a human knowing the secret about vampires. So Yagi turns Hitoshi and they let Toga and Shigaraki go and continue about their lives as much as they can with Toshinori’s injury.

Just like the rest of his family, Shinsou's quirk is the same as canon. If someone answers his question he can control their minds. It’s probably a little stronger than in canon too, at least against humans. Vampires have better resistance. His cover story is the most truthful, he’s Shouta’s orphan relative. He sometimes takes on Aizawa’s last name though in this school he decided to use his original.

Edward Cullen- Izuku Midoriya

The more I plot this out the more I’m taking Twilight, stripping it down to the bare outline, and making it into something totally different. Like the only similarities are Izuku and Shoto’s relationship follows Bella and Edwards, somewhat. Izuku is the tanned skinned, freckled, green eyed boy in a family of pale golden eyed outsiders. He seems completely human even to other vampires, til you get him in the sunlight where he literally shines.

I’m not sure when Izuku was born, maybe the 1700s, but he was still the first of the Might Coven besides Toshinori. Sometime after Nana’s death Toshi finds an ailing pregnant woman named Inko Midoriya who’s bizarre husband still hasn’t come home from his business trip to a foreign country. She’s convinced she is going to die before he returns and her pregnancy is so hard and so seemingly fast but her baby feels strong enough to survive so she begs Toshinori to please take care of her son till his father returns. Inko dies before she can give birth to her baby so Toshinori takes the baby out himself as a last ditch effort but there’s something not right, not with the baby or the amniotic sac that’s almost as hard as Toshinori himself. And when the sun shines through the window Toshinori’s arm glimmers and so does the new born baby. Dread at the thought that he’s holding an immortal child wells in him but he’s never heard of an immortal child being born and he’s especially never heard of a vampire with a heart beat. So against his better judgement he takes the child and runs, he can’t wait for Inko’s husband, and he can’t risk someone seeing the child and reporting back to the League. So he and Izuku, a name Inko had picked out before her death, stay on the run for years as the boy grew until he was at an appropriate age to be around at least vampire kind. Conveniently the half vampire boy doesn’t need blood to survive and seems to have very little if any bloodlust at all. Or so it seemed.

Now some differences I’m making will be Izuku’s aging. I know Rennesme ages fast and stops when she looks 21-25 but I’m thinking Izuku either ages very slowly or stopped when he looks closer to 15-18? Probably the first one. Also I think male half-vamps have red/gold eyes but Izuku has green because I said so.

His cover story is that he's Toshinori’s son from a previous relationship. They tried to call him a foster child in the past but they’re too close and Izuku uses Toshinori’s given name and dad interchangeably. He likes to use his mom’s last name as a way to honor her. Not every school but it is a pretty common thing for him to do and he’s using it in Forks/Crossroads this year. He doesn’t seem to have a gift but he’s a half vampire, his presence is a gift.

Humans

Bella Swan- Shoto Todoroki

Time for ‘technically main character number two but I preferred everyone else in Twilight over Edward and Bella so he and Izuku get put down lower on the list’. So Todoroki and Bella’s similarities are: new kid comes to live with other parent after the parent they lived with got married. I really don’t think there’s a lot else similar? But Bella doesn’t have that much back story to begin with.

So Shoto’s parents grew up in Forks/Crossroads but moved somewhere sunnier before he was born. He grew up in a city, maybe Phoenix (almost certainly Phoenix for the name alone). His parents had an unhappy marriage but I honestly don’t think it was full on abuse, I feel like Enji still neglected them but never physically or verbally hurt anyone. And since Shoto moves back in with Rei I don’t think she gave him his scar either, I think it was an accident where young Shoto pulled maybe a hot kettle onto himself? It probably was the catalyst for his parents divorce but ultimately that was happening either way. Both parents blamed the other for his accident but I think the courts realized it was just that, an accident, maybe some negligence (I don’t really know how custody courts work and what happens when a kid gets hurt and this isn’t a real fic so I’m not researching) but either way Enji gets Shoto (maybe all the kids but Rei gets visitation, comes down for the summer like Charlie? Kids go up there for vacation and holiday? Or split the kids 50/50? No idea this is still more backstory than Bella got) Enji is still a workaholic and Toya ends up running away/leaving probably shortly after the divorce anyway and Fuyumi and Natsuo eventually leave for college and are still closer to Rei even if they lived with their dad.

So when Enji gets remarried Shoto asks to move in with his mom since she’s all alone and Enji wouldn’t be and ‘wouldn’t it be nice to just be two newly weds with the house to themselves’. He makes a very convincing case and Enji is trying to let his youngest make his own choices so he agrees. Shoto moves north and it isn’t the worst, he likes both the heat and the cold unlike his parents, Rei hates the heat and Enji hates the cold. School is weird because people actually want to be his friend; there’s a group of stoic, pale, intimidating students he’s 90% sure are vampires; and there’s a beautiful boy who hangs out with them who looks partially horrified and disgusted by him, or like he wants to eat him alive, literally.

Renee Dwyer- Enji Todoroki (Technically)

So I ended up making Enji considerably less awful.

After the divorce Enji figures out his sexuality and eventually starts dating a much younger model who goes by Hawks after he saves him from a burning building (Enji is a firefighter). Shoto offers to move in with Rei after Hawks and Enji get married, he has nothing against Hawks and they get along as well as can be expected but they are newly weds and Enji might be going into semi retirement to travel with Hawks for his career. And the thought of being around his dad so much, who can get a little overbearing when not working, is just not something Shoto wants to deal with. Though it is weird his dad is married to someone so much younger, Shoto knows several other people in his class in Phoenix whose dads did similar and they cheated on their wives and didn’t even have a sexuality crisis in their forties so he’s letting his dad slide on this. Shoto definitely has a better relationship with Enji in this than canon Shoto but they don’t have Enji’s shity eugenics baggage here either. Overall Enji in this is just a neglectful workaholic who’s learning to work on himself with the guidance of the love of his life and is letting Shoto make his own decisions like living with his mom and this is all growth.

Charlie Swan- Rei Todoroki (Technically)

So Rei after the divorce moves back home because she hates Phoenix and hot weather. Maybe she gets custody in the summer or has Fuyumi and Natsuo since Toya took off and they split the kids? (I still haven’t decided how the custody went with those two but they don’t live in Forks/Crossroads or Phoenix so it doesn’t matter.)

After returning home she either started working at or opened up a yarn shop, I see her enjoying needle craft and she’s definitely not a sheriff type. She’s just a quiet, keeps to herself woman with a few close friends; children mostly grown and just happy to spend more time with her youngest.

Phil Dwyer- Keigo Takami

He’s a model who gets saved by Enji when his apartment burns down. He offers to take Enji to dinner and keeps offering to reward him until at Moe’s insistence Enji agrees. They hit it off and the rest is history.

Things I would have said in the tags but there’s a limit so I put the actual important stuff there and ramblings here:

It took me three weeks to finish this (midnight sun) audiobook. I literally drive for a living and couldn’t finish it in less than the entirety of my library rental time. Jake Able deserves more money.

I have read twilight three times now and it never gets easier. Yes I do have terrible taste.

I hope someone reads this. It took like three months to finish this post. I still have so much in my head. I haven’t even started talking about the League. Please ask questions, I want to actually write this but my brain won’t let me write full fics so this is what we get.

That fae AU has me like 👀. I wanna hear all about it, but particularly, I wanna know what the three have gotten up to thanks to their ancestry.

rubs my hands together god i'm so excited for an excuse to talk about this

as some of you may know, i'm very into this kind of thing. i own a Lot of books about mythology. the fair folk are some of my favourite things. oh shit hold on jasper wants my attention he's shouting

okay turns out he just wanted me to carry him around outside for a while. i'm back.

okay so first up! actually zeroth up! i'm gonna refer to everyone by their prefix but i'm not sure what names i'm using yet

but first up! so uhhhh fae have reflective eyes? like cats? or dogs? or most animals actually? so like. imagine. you are squirrel. you hear a bump. you head to check it out, and then just. glowing eyes stare back at you.

it's an experience.

(they don't notice this when the three are babies because it takes a while for it to fill in. just like pigment takes time, so does the reflective stuff. it doesn't show up to human eyes until about 3y old, and not like, Strongly glow-y until about 6y old.)

so yeah they all have very reflective glowy spooky eyes. it's one of the most inhuman physical features about them.

sorry jasper was deciding if he wanted up or down. he decided he wants me to stand and hold him. i did that for fifteen minutes. i need a kitty bjorn.)

anyway so yeah their eyes. their eyes are also so uhhh humans are omnivores so we have round pupils. good for seeing patterns.

the fae are tricksters that need to see Through things so their eyes are uhhh. there's something off about them: the iris is just a hair too wide and the pupil just an eyelash too narrow. and the three inherit that fully.

(lion, with his glowing, inhumanly golden eyes and just barely cat-like pupils: hm yes this is normal human stuff for sure)

let's see...okay so. lion passes the best for human. so to speak. he does inherit fae characteristics, namely, he is stronger and faster than humans, but 986666666666666666666-8574jui

oop that time it was freyja, mad that i pet jasper but not her, but also not wanting to be pet. she pressed my f7 key so many times god damn girlie. just let me pet you it's what you want.

anyway, he's strong and faster, but he looks a lot like squilf, he's physically capable of telling a lie (which is like, baby's first test for the fae), and unlike his siblings, he doesn't have a penchant for chicanery like a need.

jay and holly look p similar, and they both look like bramble. (i'm not sure how it works in this universe, but this is related to moth and bramble sharing a father in canon.) they're uhhh they're look. you do Not want to break a deal with them.

all three of them get up to a lot of antics together though. they go through a pranks phase. like. it's so hellish for poor squirrel and bramble.

"hey squirrel? have you seen a single left sock?"

hjl, giggling, in the background: there are no more left socks

they just like causing trouble. holly and jay are the most Internally fae, so they think and act as such, but they're the most physically human. lion is the reverse. he's strong despite not having nearly enough muscle, has very Gold Hair like That's Not Normal Lion, can move faster than a human can move in an unnerving way, but he doesn't like. he doesn't enjoy trapping people in logic and such.

so holly and jay are kind of the terrors of the town until they start to figure out how to manage their impulses in a less destructive manner. holly starts a gambling ring.

(this is based on something that happened in my high school. there was a major gambling ring the school actually had to crack down on certain types of notebooks of all things. kids were getting violent. we had a mini-organized crime thing happening.)

jay just starts fucking with people. tourists and the like. are there tourists? i don't know. my point is, he becomes local oddity but in like a good way. i'm not quite sure how to explain it. sorry.

all three of them are close with sorrel's kids. uhhh let's see tho bc while the three are triplets, sorrel's kids aren't. i think honey is older than them, by like 2 years, poppy is about a year older, and cinder is a few months younger.

but they all grow up mostly together. (poppy and mole were twins.)

jay likes to tell berry how he's going to die, for lion's sake.

as they get older and start to come into themselves, they all start to get harder and harder to believe as fully human without actively hiding it. by the time they're ten (i'm going very non chronologically here sorry), they're pretty much impossible to pass off as fully human. actually for a while they think they're changlings.

most people have never met a full fae, so the three seem pretty damn fae like. but they are not.

it takes one about thirty seconds with a full fae to realize this. the fae are taller than humans, with too many teeth, too sharp and needle-like, and their laugh sounds of bells, not like bells, but the sound exactly. they are intoxicating and thrilling and dangerous. they will dance you to death and not feel bad about it. (well, some of them will. they run a spectrum. like people.)

(currently imagining leaf bringing moth home for the holidays. i don't know who that tall vampire lady everyone loves is, but it has strongly that energy.)

anyway, holly's very charming. it doesn't work on her brothers, and thankfully it doesn't work on her parents. she could probably get it to work on them as an adult (25 or so), but definitely not as a youth. she's also the best with glamour. i don't okay i don't have like. glamour down in the high magic sense.

this is a fae au, not a fantasy au, if that means anything to anyone.

but holly is the one who can smile too wide, before her face snaps back down to its position. if that makes sense.

lion has a thing with fruit. i'm sorry that's so unhelpful he's just. overripe fruit, sweet and sticky, at his fingertips. i don't know how to explain this stuff, because part of the point is that it's not tangible, it's subtle and just off centre of reality, so you can almost believe you're seeing things, imagining things. describing it directly is hard.

but anyway, continuing.

jay has some foresight. he's also the best with words. holly is the one who will convince you to make a terrible deal, jay is the reason it's terrible. lion is the one who will enforce it.

but anyway, jay has a knack for phrasing and wording. he would make an excellent lawyer. but he's extremely perceptive, very good at that sort of thing.

Sorting Daenerys Targaryen and Jorah Mormont with the sortinghatchats system (GoT verse)

I didn’t want to write this post before I finished my Killing Eve sortings (basically Carolyn and Konstantin), but I’m stuck with them, so I decided to revisit an old fandom instead with a new approach. My take here is possibly an outsider’s take, given that I haven’t interacted with this fandom for a while, save for a few close friends I made in it. Now, bear in mind this sorting system IS NOT the original HP system, it is simply based on it. It sorts you into two houses. Your primary is you WHY, your reason to be who you are, what you believe in. Your secondary is your HOW, the way you act and approach life. Below is a little tl;dr of what each of them are (I’m using the animal terminology that’s being used in many blogs, by the way. If you know the houses, you know what each animal is supposed to represent).

Lion primaries are intuitive and guided by their moral compass, which is very strong (doesn’t mean what they believe in is in fact good or correct) and Lion secondaries are the people who charge straight at something, regardless of whether they will come out of it unscathed or not.

Snake primaries value people. Not any person, their people. They will go to hell and earth for their people to be safe and happy, which can get kind of self destructive. Snake secondaries improvise much like Lion secondaries, but they tend to adapt to situation and shapeshift their way out of problems.

Bird primaries also value right and wrong like Lion primaries, but they build their systems with external information and observation, not from their gut feelings. That means Bird primaries change a lot with time, because their ‘rights’ and ‘wrongs’ change. Bird secondaries collect. Skills, tools, random knowledge, they delve deep and acquire as much of them as they can, not because things are useful, but because it’s fun.

Finally, Badger primaries are also people-persons, but their communities are much broader than a Snake primary’s. They value people, tradition, cultures and so (but not every Badger sees everyone as people, so there’s that). Badger secondaries are the hardworking types in the sense that they cultivate things, they invest in them and even become them.

You can develop models of each house according to what you find useful or what society has instilled in you, but when push come to shove, the models aren’t the real you. All of these houses can burn, meaning their essence is somehow scared away from them due to trauma, depression, societal pressures, etc. That means a Lion stops trusting their instincts, a Snake no longer feels like they’re able to protect their people or their people are better off without them, a Bird loses faith in their systems and a Badger closes themselves off from their communities and adopts a smaller circle of people. Daenerys

Double Lion, no doubt (for most of the show). Dany knows what’s right, she feels it in her bones. She never tries to rationalise her decisions and she won’t usually budge, even if she is presented with a more rational plan. None of her advisors have really convinced her to do anything, they might have pushed her to do what they wanted, but if she had her way, Daenerys would only ever listen to her own heart. She needs people around her to help her not make impulsive, brash decisions(because of her Lion secondary that I will get into), but she definitely doesn’t need - and doesn’t want - a moral compass, hers works just fine. She was burned as hell in the first episodes of the first season, mostly because of Viserys’ horrible influence, because he had robbed her of a purpose, of her truth. Drogo also stifles her primary and secondary for a while, but he eventually gives her some space to be herself. When she unburns, she unburns fast. ‘Not a Queen, a Khaleesi’ is pretty much Day gong ‘yeah, I can do things my way, I can be my own person with my own values and my own self.’ I think from there on, her quest to liberate 1) take back the Iron Throne 2) liberate Slaver’s Bay and ‘Break the Wheel’ just show how much she is focused on a big quest that is not explained by reason, by her need to form a community or by the influence of someone in her life. She does it because that’s the Right Thing ™ to do, and that’s Lion primary in a nutshell. Another thing that points towards Lion primary to me is how she just won’t take criticism and specially betrayal well (not that anyone does, but Dany is particularly unforgiving most of the time). Lion primaries are particularly shaken when someone they admire doesn’t have the same moral standards as they do, because deep down they like to think they know what’s ‘good’ and ‘true’ (oops my Snake primary who doesn’t really get Lions is showing), so if you don’t follow them and their beliefs, you must be doing something wrong. This is why Dany is so fucking pissed at Jorah when she finds out he betrayed her. She is also devastated true, and she misses him, but her ideals and her ‘truth’ stop her from seeing things from his side ad from forgiving him until he has proven himself worthy. Her reaction to betrayals tie in to the fact that she is a MASSIVE Lion secondary. She headbutts her way into things and her liberal use of Dracarys is proof of that. That’s not to say she doesn’t think or plan or listen to her advisors, but when push comes to shove, homegirl ACTS. Fuck the consequences, I have three dragons, fucking try me. Don’t tell me that climbing on Drogon in the fighting pits and burning the Khals were calculated decisions. Burning the Lannister army wasn’t a calculated decision. She leaves the planning to the people around her. This is something I struggle with regarding Lions, but I have to admit they are much more prone to seizing opportunities that us Bird secondaries (because I do have a Snake model but it is utter shit).

Now, in seasons 7 and 8, she starts burning again. She gets to Westeros, where people aren’t flocking to her side like they did in Essos. Daenerys lets herself be swayed by Jon’s pretty little speeches that sound very Lion, sound very true to Daenerys, but guess what? She is fucking betrayed by everyone. The people she loved are killed, her children are killed (and the whole ‘I will take what is mine’ thing indicates that she might have a Snaky primary model, after all, she does some things because of what she claimed as hers, be it people or the Throne), she is left absolutely alone, so she burns, she loses faith in herself, starts doubting her actions and her instincts and no one is there to help her unburn safely, so the way she does it is destructive, as it often is with Lion primaries who don’t have guidance in order to regain their trust their instincts and their selves. To me, the KL incidence is her primary going ‘You fucking left me behind, you fuckers, now you are going to see that I was right and fuck the consequences’. Her primary takes a turn for the worse with the help of an impulsive secondary and she ends doing anything to reach her end goal, similar to Albus Dumbledore and his disregard for human life as long as Voldemort being defeated is concerned.

Jorah

I have no doubts whatsoever that Jorah is a Snake primary. I know the fandom likes to sort him into Hufflepuff when using the traditional sorting system and while there’s no doubts he is a loyalist to the bone, Jorah’s loyalties are much narrower than a Badger primary’s would be. Before he meets Daenerys, he wants to go home and make up with his family, because they are the ones who matter. Not his reputation, not the North, not Bear Islad itself, the Mormont House. Before that still, he does literally anything to keep Lynesse happy, including doing things that are against the law. This utter devotion to certain people are what makes him a Snake primery to me, a paricularly self destructive one. He starts worrying about the fact that he berayed Daenerys when he ‘adopts’ her into his circles and more so when she goes from being in his outermost circles to being the one person his Snake primary is attached to. Daeerys is everything to Jorah. Does he persoally care about freeing slaves or generally following her morals? No, he does it because it is importat to her and he wants her to see he is worthy of her attention (I, another Snek, still don’t kow if I like Florence + The Machine so damn much because I liked a girl who was into FATM or if my Bird secondary saw her taste for FATM and went ‘OMG ME TOO LETS TALK ABOUT THAT’ and the primary just said ‘huh, that’s legit. We’ll worship her from now on’, so yeah, us Snakes do that. On a side note, I never worked up the courage to ask her out, though). That’s why he goes batshit when she banishes him. He doesn’t burn, which means his primary is so strong it wasn’t fazed by being ast out of her circles; no, he is hell bent on getting back into her good graces and if he has to sacrifice his life fr that, so be it.

Now, when it comes to secondary, I’d say Jorah’s a Lion secondary too, even though he has a lot of models he picked up with time. Models are useful, models get you out of bad situations, but they’re not who you really are. Jorah wans to be a Bird secondary when he’s around Daenerys, he wants to be the careful planner who looks ahead and ensures she is successful and he also needs a Snake secondary model, because his life demands that he twists and turns himself to fit different situations, but deep inside he is a Lion. His most honest moments are the moments when he just does it, no thoughts head empty. Did he have a solid plans when he kidnapped Tyrion? Fuck no! Did he truly know what he was doing when he decided to fight in the pits? Fuck no! Did he think before he charged at the wights and saved Daenerys in Winterfell? Fuck no! His head was probably just going ‘my Daenerys is in danger let’s punch first and see what happens later’. He’s not like Littlefinger, who plans everything ad is so fast at analysing and changing plans he looks like a Snake. His models make him seem like the opposite of Dany, like a Bird to a Lion, brains while she is brawn, but when she is in danger, Jorah charges.

What the Jorleesi shippers do is take Dany’s Lion primary that is so focused on a quest and show her that she can also include people in her big aspirations. The gut feeling that is so characteristic of Lions is already inside her, all she would need is to put it into words, which isn’t necessarily the strongest suits of many Lions (that’s a Bird thing). Since most of their dynamics inevitably lies on Jorah’s models regulating Dany’s secondary, there’s not much point in ‘taming her Lion’. Jorah stays the same. The fandom looooves his Snake/Lion, specially since us Snakes tend to be too hard on ourselves. A self-loathing Snake who is also a stupid brave Lion secondary? Yes. They are both stupid brave. Also just stupid. Just talk, you two, for fuck’s sake. Get over your Lion, Daenerys, and talk to him, his Snake won’t allow him to bother you too much.

you’re born in 1997, in the north west of england. wilmslow, to be exact. a quaint and affluent town, just south of manchester. the family you’re born into is a comfortable one. not quite living lavishly, but not at all struggling, either. your parents both work in business out in the city. you go to a good school. but... all is not how you exactly want it to be.

see, your parents are quite pushy. they expect you to live how they want, rather than how you do. at the all boy’s academy they enroll you in as a teenager, they expect you to pick what they deem as intellectual subjects, such as foreign languages, further mathematics and computer science. there’s a focus on you becoming someone that makes a lot of money, rather than someone who is happy.

but you’re... not the kind of person that can be molded so easily. you’re a fairly happy-go-lucky kid, but also a rebellious one. your parents’ strict ways of trying to force you down their chosen path, only encourages you more heavily to choose your own.

at fourteen, you meet the guys. lennox, jovi & jasper. they’re some of the only kids at school who can be bothered to be around you, with your high energy and bolshy attitude. really, they’re the only people who embrace you for who you are. they encourage your weirdness and outspokenness. it’s not long before you find yourself wanting to do everything together. it’s not long before the four of you are inseparable.

from there, you fully detach from everything your parents want you to be. you embrace your individuality. you also find the courage and bravery to come out to your parents as non-binary at the age of sixteen. there’s not a single person’s opinion that you’re afraid of, or even care about.

it’s not all rainbows & sunshine, though. you struggle somewhat with anger issues, and a bit of depression. you’re also practically addicted to getting into trouble: picking fights with bullies at school, selling weed & pills to your friends around town, underaged drinking... you get the gist. though you keep your fears internal, you sometimes worry you’ll get nowhere in life.

so of course, the second the boys are talking about starting a band, you’re all in. imagine if you made it big someday? wouldn’t that be sick? you’re immediately drawn to bass guitar, and use a month’s worth of saved up pocket money to pick one up from the big music store in the city. thankfully, you pick it up quite quickly, because before you can even realize it, things are getting so... real. by sixteen, you don’t feel you have the option to stick around at school for sixth form, because drive like i do is already playing local venues and working on its first album.

you’re just seventeen when the album is released. somehow, the climb to fame is faster than you could have ever imagined. it seems like yesterday you were still watching bass tutorials on youtube in your bedroom and practicing in your friend’s garage after school. first is some notoriety across the uk, but before you know it — boom! global stardom. the fame is a heavy weight for someone so young to carry... but fuck it, it’s gonna be fun, and you know it.

you’re twenty-three now, and days are gone of pipedreams formed in your parent’s shoebox room. you split your time between manchester, london, and LA — and that’s just during rare moments of downtime from your world tours. your band is 4 albums in, and whoever hasn’t heard of you might as well have been living under a rock. is it narcissistic to think like that? maybe, but you don’t care. this is rock n’ roll, baby. this is the life.

naturally, all eyes are mostly on your very outspoken frontman. he’s controversial, but the media can’t get enough of him. as for you? to them, you’re... the band’s problem child. while you argue that your behavior is no different than that of your friend, he’s got the lead singer charm. they don’t seem to like you as much. why? well...

‘drink, fall, spew...’ ( troublesome tendencies & exposed secret )

you never really coped as well as you acted like you did, did you? while you were grateful for the fame, everything was... a lot, and it was all at once. you didn’t even get the chance to process it.

take four twenty-somethings and add constant prying journalists, paparazzi, and constantly full schedules into the mix. and why not pepper in some typical rockstar vices, too? alcohol, drugs, parties, throwaway sex. things are destined to get a little rocky. though you tried at first not to show it to your fans, your destructive behavior soon got the better of you, and you became known to drunkenly lash out at paps, smash cameras and storm out of interviews when the questions got too personal.

this all came to a head when you were caught on camera several times distributing acid tabs, cocaine and mdma at events, music festivals & awards shows. the press gave the band a pretty bad time over this, and given the other members’ controversies and lennon’s similar link to drugs, it wasn’t a good look for any of you.

it didn’t matter that you had a side to you that was good, pure. that you were always kind and loving and down-to-earth towards your fans and friends. you were a bad seed, and you wound up on exposed with the rest of your bandmates. hopefully you can prove there’s more to you than what the media shows...

basically a literal toddler. loves a laugh, loves a good time, but get on his bad side and he WILL throw a tantrum

it’s mainly people like press & paps he lets his anger out on. the band’s fans and people he’s close with on a personal level know he’s a good person underneath it all

Want to answer this one today because I’ve been excited to talk about this decision.

Firstly, shipping was not even remotely on my mind when I had Trixx use the word “partner.” The ladybug and the cat are meant to balance each other and act as partners. There’s nothing inherently romantic implied there.

Even in general, shipping wasn’t on my mind when I gave Luka the cat. It was a decision based on multiple factors. At best, it gives Luka more time with Ladybug, but it’s not as though being given the cat advances their relationship in any way.

Secondly, to say that Juleka is “right” for the cat is to ignore the other thing that Trixx pointed out in his words to Luka.

“But you gotta be ready to be Ladybug’s partner.“

Being the cat isn’t all about destroying the right thing at the right time. Cautiousness is a good trait (that Luka would have even more so than Juleka), but it’s not everything.

Being Ladybug’s partner means being ready to emotionally support her. Being Ladybug’s partner means being ready to drop everything if she’s in trouble.

Juleka cannot do that. Juleka isn’t ready to have that responsibility. Rose is where she’s comfortable and Rose has basically no baggage whatsoever.

Ladybug has Paris resting on her shoulders, and I’m not going to push that on Juleka when she’s still got herself to figure out and work on. That’s not fair to Juleka and exactly why Fu didn’t pick her for her cat.

Thirdly, Juleka doesn’t like the spotlight. She’s quiet and reserved. Even with Kitty Section, she’s not upfront and center. She’s in the back, playing support.

That’s exactly what the fox is. The fox can fight with the flute, but it’s not meant to take center stage. It waits, it watches, and then it acts.

Would Juleka like to wield the power of destruction? Perhaps, but let me ask this...

After all the criticism and harsh eyes that Chat Noir had faced, is all that just going to magically go away when a new cat arrives?

No, no it is not. People may be relieved or feel “good vibes” now that the cat has been given to someone else, but that doesn’t mean they’re not going to watch the new cat’s every move. They’re not waiting for the cat to slip up, but they want to ensure that the new cat treats Ladybug right.

Juleka would not be able to handle that pressure. Ladybug may be “the star,” but any time Juleka would show up as the cat, people would be watching her warily, hoping that she doesn’t screw up and/or make Ladybug uncomfortable.

Luka has a steady head on his shoulders. He’s not afraid of what the public thinks, as it’s only the opinion of those close to him that matter to him. He knows he’ll treat Ladybug respectfully and politely, so what the public thinks he might do isn’t important.

Juleka might’ve treated Ladybug in a similar way, but she becomes anxious at what others think. In “Reflekta,” the opinion of the person she cared most about (i.e: Rose) didn’t matter, because she felt like no one else truly saw her.

Waiting to give Juleka a miraculous while having Trixx around was to warm her up to being the fox. The cat, on the other hand, is a much larger responsibility.

The bee, fox, and turtle may be permanent, but they’re not required to go to every fight. The ladybug and cat, however, are. The cat balances out what the ladybug can’t offer: destruction.

I’ve talked about this before, but giving a miraculous to a person is so much more than saying that they look good in black spandex or even that they’d enjoy having whatever power.

Responsibility. Their kwami. How they use their status to help others.

It all matters.

Fourthly and most importantly, the concept of “destined lovers” does not exist.

Destiny does not exist.

For Adrien to admit that he was “right all along” would be to admit that it was “destiny” for him to have his freedom ripped away from him.

That it was “destiny” that dropped the ring into his hands only to take it from him.

If the ladybug and cat are “destined” to be together, then where did Chat’s chance go? Did destiny give him the cat and then say, “Oops! Wrong holder, my bad”?

No. No it did not.

It wasn’t destiny that gave Luka the cat. It was Marinette.

Marinette was the one who gave him the “glowing recommendation.” Fu chose Luka based on that recommendation.

That’s not destiny. That’s a choice.

To know that it wasn’t fate that had brought Ladybug and the new cat together...

To know that they had chosen it...

To know that they didn’t need to hide behind the excuse or hope of “destined lovers...”

That will hurt Adrien more than seeing Ladybug with a fox hero any day.

Adventure Rewrite Idea Dump (Again)

Listen I want to talk about my OCs but I don’t have the energy to actually write right now since I feel like literal ass so it’s random fact time! Warning: random mashing of English and Japanese names for Digimon ahead.

First off, I’m planning on giving one Armor evolution to all of the kids. Regardless of Adventure or 02 affiliation, all of them are getting one Armor evolution. Only Pegasmon and Nefertimon are staying the same while all the others get reworked/redesigned or new stuff entirely. The 02 kids get Armors first while the Adventure kids are later on.

Also, there aren’t going to be any D3′s needed to open the gate between the worlds. All of the kids are going to have the same original model Digivice from Adventure. For colors at higher levels of evolution on the others it’ll go as follows: Daisuke - Gold, Miyako - Turquoise, Iori - White, Ken - Black, Meiko - Magenta.

Everyone is going to get to have a Jogress partner, but not in the same way that 02 used them. Instead, it’ll be more like Omnimon: an evolution that takes place after the highest level is obtained. Pairs will go as follows: Taichi/Yamato, Sora/Mimi, Koshiro/Jou, Daisuke/Ken, Miyako/Hikari, Iori/Takeru.

As of now, my plan for evolution is going to have Agumon and Gabumon go Mega in the original Adventure while Omnimon shows up during Our War Game. Veemon and Wormmon will go Mega in 02 and Jogress during Revenge of Diaboromon. All other Megas will appear during the first half Tri (which will be rewritten entirely to include the 02 kids) while the second half has the remaining four Jogress pairs.

Since Jogress is being handled differently, the 02 partners get to go all the way to Mega on their own. The evolution lines are below: Veemon - ExVeemon - Paildramon - Magnamon Hawkmon - Aquilamon - Silphymon - Valkyrimon Armadillomon - Ankylomon - ??? - ??? Wormmon - Stingmon - JewelBeemon - GrandisKuwagamon

The only Jogress evolution that will remain from canon is Imperialdramon. The others will be redesigned entirely due to either not fitting as much (Shakkoumon) or being used already (Silphymon). As for Armadillomon’s evolutions, I’m going to have to design those myself. No matter how much I search, there’s never anything that properly fits in with the theme of Ankylomon, so I’ll just make up mons myself. Fight me on it.

For the 02 kids, they have the Crests of Loyalty, Passion, Integrity, and Kindness for Daisuke, Miyako, Iori, and Ken respectively. Meiko will also get a Crest, though Meicoomon is special in the way that she has no Jogress partner and will act on her own. In fact, Meicoomon is being handled completely differently than in canon and is not used as a villain because I said so. Tri is being handled completely differently, so nearly everything about the plot is different now. Again, fight me.

Hurricane Landing is going to be reworked so that it fits into canon. In it, Willis is not going to be designated specifically as a Chosen Child. Instead, he found Gummymon and Kokomon by pure accident, and they bonded to him on their own. Humans naturally have the power to make Digimon evolve at an advanced speed; a Digivice simply refines that power and makes it less unpredictable. Willis is partnered to them in a unique way since has no Digivice but is still able to make them evolve pretty reliably.

On a similar note, I’m not using the international Chosen. I was never the biggest fan of them, so I’m just cutting them out. I’ll handle things differently during the World Tour segment (assuming it even remains in the final draft) to compensate.

Mimi won’t be moving away to America either. I feel like it would be best for the sake of the plot if I kept her in Japan, so she’s sticking around there with the rest of the squad.

I mentioned before that Tri is getting a complete overhaul, right? The first step is axing King Drasil. Yeah. Oops. Instead, I’m going to create a much more direct rival to Homeostasis. For now, let’s call them Havoc (which is a placeholder in case I wind up coming up with something better).

Havoc existed in the times before Homeostasis was created. In between the birth of the Digital World and the arrival of the Harmonious Ones, Havoc seemed to rule over the Digital World from afar. They created Apocalymon as a way of manifesting their chaotic whims, causing a reign of terror over the Digital World. In an unprecedented course of events, Apocalymon caused a severe distortion in the Digital World that caused time to flow faster than on Earth. Apocalymon’s existence caused a rift between the Digital World and Earth as well, and that portal pulled in the original group of six kids in 1980 (Daigo, Maki, Hiroaki, Haruhiko, Kaya, and Chisane). Their partners eventually evolved to become the Harmonious Ones, and they sealed away Apocalymon in the process, though time remained sped up. Homeostasis was born as a result of the Harmonious Ones coming to existence.

Havoc was mostly left to linger in the shadows, forced back by the arrival of Homeostasis. The Order led by Homeostasis developed Digivices and Crests for twelve children based on manifestations from the original six. Another distortion caused by an escape attempt from Apocalymon opened a gate to Earth where the Greymon and Parrotmon fight took place in 1995. That selected eight of the twelve children, and when disaster struck and the Order was destroyed, the eight were called upon, prompting the events of Adventure to play out.

During the attack by Myotismon in 1999, Daisuke, Iori, and Ken all witnessed events related to the Digital World. While they were not the only witnesses of these events, they caught Homeostasis’ eye for fitting three of the four traits. This left only Passion lacking in a host, though it found one when Miyako watched the fight between Omnimon and Diaboromon the following year, making her the final child of the group to be Chosen.

Meiko was not a Chosen under Homeostasis. Instead, Havoc was the one who selected her. After the fall of Apocalymon, Havoc tried to concoct a further plan to usurp Homeostasis and take over the Digital World, and they created Meicoomon. By imitating the power of the Digivices seen up to that point (which was only known to evolve Digimon up to Mega), Havoc created another Digivice, the one that would later come to be used by Meiko. Since Armor and Jogress capabilities hadn’t been seen yet, her echo of a Digivice lacked both of those powers. She was given the Crest of Darkness, and Havoc planned for Meicoomon to evolve into another world-breaking monster on par with Apocalymon. During the events of this AU’s version of Tri, Meiko purifies the Crest into the Crest of Balance, and Meicoomon doesn’t slip into her destructive ways, instead finding a place as Rasielmon.

As for the original Chosen, they split up after their original adventure. Hiroaki and Haruhiko grew distant from the rest of the group while Daigo and Maki went on to attend school together. Kaya and Chisane (both of whom are my OCs; fight me if that’s a problem okay) became romantic partners. All of them went on to live regular lives, most of them in the Odaiba area. Kaya and Chisane moved out to Tottori while the others stayed in Odaiba. When Digimon started to rise to prominence after the 1999 war with Myotismon, Daigo, Maki, and Haruhiko came to work together as Digimon researchers. Hiroaki remained on his own since he had other work at the TV station.

As for Kaya and Chisane, they established a small restaurant in Tottori. They left Odaiba without a word once they were old enough, tying the knot and living alone while owning and running their cafe. Chisane couldn’t stand the city life due to the noise and crowds, and Kaya wanted to follow her. They avoided much of busy life, staying away from any incidents involving Digimon despite wishing to see their partners once again.

All Crest bearers are sensitive to influence from Homeostasis, but their connection is on the lower side. Hope and Light are easily most connected due to their angelic links, though Light’s link is the strongest. Keepers of the Crest of Light can communicate with Homeostasis easily while bearers of Hope can still do it but are harder to contact. All of them are also sensitive to the balance of other worlds, but again, Hope and Light are most affected.

Since Chisane was the original bearer of Hope and Light (all the original six kids had two Crests), her connection is so heavy that it borders on being dangerous. Being near so many Digital Gates in Odaiba can cause sickness for her at times since she has a lacking constitution and immune system. When the worlds are unbalanced, it has a horrible impact on her. To avoid any unnecessary sickness, Kaya moved with her out to Tottori where there were fewer gates. They moved not long after the Parrotmon/Greymon duel in 1995 since the sudden outburst by Apocalymon’s escape attempt sickened Chisane immediately. The destabilization of the worlds always harmed her, but that was the most prominent example of imbalance at the time, causing terrible harm.

While the two mostly kept to themselves, Chisane was still vulnerable to being contacted by Homeostasis. She seems to speak to herself somewhat often, though this is more often than not Homeostasis asking for permission to borrow her body and mind. It was through her that Homeostasis learned more about how things were on Earth from the Digital World.

When the Mochizuki family moved in near them, Chisane and Kaya took to avoiding them. Chisane was fine with Meiko at first, but when Havoc placed the Crest of Darkness inside her, being around Meiko for too long began to make her feel nauseous after prolonged contact. Kaya grows incredibly protective of Chisane when Meiko is nearby, coming off as hostile due to her blunt nature.

The Digital World was created as a mix of three things: digital networks on Earth, the world of dreams shown at the end of 02 (one where everything is possible), and the Dark Ocean. The second of these two worlds is called the Dream Light. When all three of these lands came together, they spawned the Digital World. From there, lifeforms from all three lands were combined to create Digimon. Havoc emerged naturally, starting off as a virus program from Earth before mutating into something much larger and worse.

The Video

PART ONE PART TWO

Summary: The Reader has a difficult time processing what happened at the Eden Club and in attempts to make sense of things opens and watches the forbidden testing video of their self and the RK800 during pre-testing.

Characters: Reader, Connor, Tracis

Warnings: Death

Words: 1700 approx.

You shot one of the WR400 models, the one with the short brunette hair. The android swayed for a moment before collapsing to the pavement. The other female android crawled over quickly to the collapsed WR400. Its LED was a bright red as it proceeded to sniffle and trace the deceased androids face. "Why?" It whispered looking up to you, synthetic tears clouding its eyes. "Why did you kill her?" It asked, voice trembling with every word. You stayed silent, gun still trained on the deviant. You had no idea what had just happened or what was going on. One moment you were in the garden with Amanda and the next you were outside of the Eden Club with a gun in your hands. The blue-haired android looked back to you again. "She had nothing to do with any of this." You watched as the blue-haired Traci proceeded to bring the deceased androids arms to rest on its stomach. Humans did this as a sign of resting for their loved ones when they passed. Your LED was a solid yellow as you watched the Traci interact with its deceased twin. The android was abnormally gentle and affectionate with the way it touched the other Traci. It began to speak again, explaining what had happened with the victim inside of the club. Connor and Lieutenant Anderson stood on the sidelines watching the whole scene unfold before them. The RK800s LED was a bright yellow, identical to yours. "....wanted to get back to the one I loved and forget about the humans." The Traci began to slowly approach you, "The smell of their sweat and their dirty words. But you've - you've taken her away from me." There were tears running down the androids synthetic skin. None of this was real. Deviants were simulating emotions, they weren't alive. Machines couldn't feel emotions the way humans did. That is why androids were perfect, that was why you are perfect. "I love her." The android said sparing a glance down at its 'lover'. "I loved her!" Before you could react the machine came dashing at you taking the gun in your hand and drawing it up so the barrel of the pistol was pressed underneath its chin. In an instant it too was shut down permenantly. Then it was just the utter silence. The silence and the rain and you, RK800, and Lieutenant Anderson. You stood there letting raindrops slide down your synthetic skin. love. love. L0v3.

You shook your head. What was it you were just thinking about? You looked to the RK800 watching as his LED spun a bright yellow. He looked.....contemplative. Without another thought you dropped the gun to the ground and left. You heard the Lieutenant say something along the lines of "My god..." on your way back into the club. A taxi took you back to Cyberlife. Your counterpart would arrive soon enough to recharge. Instead of heading to your pod to recharge and go into low power mode you instead took a seat on a nearby stool and sifted through your mental files. Before arriving at the club you saved an encrypted Cyberlife file: RK800-Rk800.1/compatibilitytests/cyberlife2038.video The nature of this video file name had you intrigued. Why was it encrypted? It took you a mere ten seconds to bypass the firewall put up around it to protect it. You were apprehensive to view to the video. Amanda would be disappionted that you were snooping in Cyberlife's business, however, this could potentially help with the investigation. It would be wise for you to know more about your counterpart and yourself as well as your capabilities. The LED on the side of your head blinked a mild yellow as internally you began to review this mysterious video. Externally it looked as if you were sitting and staring off into the distance. It started as a standard Cyberlife testing video. The company tended to record everything when it came to testing their prototypes. It seemed standard, you were sitting on a bench with a technician in front of you asking you to flex your fingers for them. Then they brought the RK800 into the room; "RK800.1 meet the RK800 Connor model." the technician said stepping to the side. The unfamiliar android stood tall and looked down at you with a friendly smile. "Hello, my name is Connor." it smiled and stretched its hand out towards you in a kind gesture. You took its hand and shook it and then released it letting your hand fall back to your side on the bench. Another technician was fixing the plating on the back of your neck. The plating closed with a hiss and they backed away. "We will leave the two of you to become acquainted." the technician said, the one that introduced the two of you. The two Cyberlife techs left the room leaving the two of you alone. The RK800 looked around in wonder, hands clasped behind his back as he walked around. "Your model is unfamiliar to me, I cannot access any information on you specifically." he said turning to face you. By now you had stood from the bench and looked around yourself. There was some information on the RK800, you had much to your disposal. "You are an RK800 designed to act as a detective for the Detroit Police Department. You have already been outside, your test to save that human girl from the hostage situation was a great success for Cyberlife. Besides everything I just explained you are also designed to hunt deviants and your main mission is to find the root cause of deviancy and stop it." The information flowed out of you like a waterfall. Your model was smart, half a step up from the RK800. You had almost everything to your disposal whereas you knew he was limited to certain files in the Cyberlife database. His brown eyes fixed onto your face, he scanned you again. The only thing that came up next to you for information was your model: RK800.1 Curious. The android was very curious with you. "What is the purpose of your creation?" he asked. You blinked a few times, LED going a bright yellow. "My purpose?" You whispered to yourself. This question seemed to catch you off guard. It seemed that not many people had asked you about yourself before. You walked over to him, he seemed very magnetic. Your gaze never strayed from his figure since he entered the room. The two of you were similar in many ways but you were in no means identical. "I was designed to protect you, I am to ensure that you do not get destroyed. I am also to ensure that you do not become affected with the deviant virus." It was a mouthful. The technicians let the two of you speak and wander the room freely for a few hours. "Is Detroit as troublesome as the news reports state?" You ask. Cyberlife had yet to allow you to leave the building let alone this room. Connor had got to go outside into the world. He got to see things you had yet to. His LED blinked yellow for a moment, his eyelids fluttered for a second as well. "I sent you the information." he said, the corner of his mouth slightly quirking up. "I cannot receive information via the Cyberlife android link. I can only connect with another android through a physical connection." You explained. Instead you reached forward, the palm of your hand resting against the side of his face. The synthetic skin on your hand peeled back up to your mid-forearm. The synthetic skin on his face peeled away around where your hand met his cheek. He leaned into the touch and let his eyes close. You had never connected with another android before. Was this how a connection worked? You snatched your hand away after a moment and fell back onto the ground. Your visuals were clearer and there was no nagging voice in the back of your processor. Connor looked down at you, his gaze soft and gentle. All of your protocals had been wiped clean from your processor, any mission you had was now non-existent. What did he do to you? The room seemed much colder, you wanted to leave. You......wanted to leave? The doors to the room flew open as a flurry of technicians ran inside. You were scared. What were they going to do to you? "Its connection has been severed from the module and the garden, reset her." one of them said to the other four in the room. You scrambled to your feet and grabbed at Connor's grey overcoat. "Don't let them reset me. This is your fault, what did you do to me?" You asked, your voice was different now as well. "Let go! I don't want to be reset! Let me leave!" You screamed as the technicians grabbed a hold of you. The video cut there with your model being dragged away kicking and screaming. You were once a deviant. How could the RK800 turn a prestigious model like yourself deviant? Later, when you were in low power mode you would have to ask Amanda. Surely she had the answers to your questions. The doors to the room slid open, you turned your head to see the RK800 enter. It crossed the room and stopped in front of you. "Lieutenant Anderson did not appreciate the destruction of those deviants at the Eden Club." it said taking a seat next to you. "My relationship with Lieutenant Anderson is not imperative to my mission." you responded. Could it do it again? If you connected with it would you become deviant? But you've connected with the RK800 before and nothing happened. Cyberlife must have improved your model by now after the incident. "My relationship with the Lieutenant has been affected by your decision, please discuss any plans you have to affect the investigation with me beforehand." it said with a small smile. Was he always smiling or could he do that on command? It. Connor was not a 'he' it was an it. Androids were machines, you were a machine. Humans only gave androids pronouns because it made them more comfortable.

I’m forever an asshole obsessed with fire/ice ships so Thunderbird or Sunfire, fuck the inhumans one off and St. John. Also, Rahul Kohli as Neal Shaara/Thunderbird/Agni. Also I’m sposed to be asleep so ignore if this is a shit idea.

For the record, I actually kinda like the Inhuman guy, cuz I mean, its not his fault he’s part of a trash franchise. I think it probably helps that I’ve only ever read one issue with him, so as to render it absolutely impossible for his writing to piss me off. I like to just close my eyes and pretend he’s a mutant. Y’know. Like I do with Kamala!

Who is obviously a mutant.

(And like.....let’s be real. The dude is a pyrokinetic with a demon form, the codename INFERNO, and his REAL name is DANTE Pertuz. DANTE. INFERNO. Like, that’s the on-the-nose-fuck-your-subtlety-we-came-here-to-be-pretentious-as-fuck-with-our-literary-references-look-how-dignified-it-makes-our-character balls to the wall character concept I am HERE for. I’m like OH HAI I SEE WHAT U DID THAR. And they’re like “oh yeah? You got it? Hahaha, we were worried nobody would, phew, good job tho. Totally adds to the character right? Pretty clever of us.” And then I’d be like Hahahaha no, not even a little bit, but ‘scool, I like him anyway cuz I’m easy like that. I put out for puns.” And then they’d be like awwwww, dammit, we worked so hard on that. And I’d be like....well, that doesn’t speak highly of your abilities, I mean it was a super obvious joke. And then I stopped making up conversations with hypothetical people in my head.)

Also, in defense of comic book St. John Allerdyce and absolutely NO OTHER VERSIONS EVER because agreed, they all suck....

Comic book St. John is a snarky Australian asshole who in between acts of mutant mass destruction, has a side career as a successful romance novelist under a pen name.

(I’m not even joking. Comic book St. John, in canon, writes romance novels in his spare time as a hobby. LOLOLOL c’mon, how is that not a great character beat for a supervillain slash occasional kinda-if-you-squint-superhero).

Anyway.

I too am also trash for fire/ice ships because SCREW SUBTLETY, WE SHIP THEMATICALLY. But like, its gotta be the RIGHT fire/ice ship. I weirdly have standards with my fire/ice ships? Probably just because I’m obsessed with Bobby Drake but whatever, who cares, how is that relevant.

I mean, OBVIOUSLY, you have your proto-fire/ice ship, the one, the original, the Word I came out of the womb prepared to preach and ship and like, spread to the masses....Bobby Drake/Johnny Storm. Because like. They are elemental dorks whose competitiveness is only matched by their dumbness, how can you not love them, I DEFY YOU TO SAY.

I’m kinda meh on Iceman/Pyro, because like, original comic book Pyro and Bobby never even interacted I think? And in cartoons they’re always totally different generations/age groups, and in the movies they’re like....boring and stale and not even all that attractive and also did I mention boring, omg no offense to whomever wrote them, but I tried reading Bobby/Pyro movie fanfic years ago because like, that’s the only movie Bobby fic there is, unless you want to read about him being an asshole to Rogue and/or cheating with Kitty and just generally driving Rogue into the arms of the much (much much much much, like ewww) older Logan or Gambit. Because srsly, so appealing. So obviously, I caved and tried reading Bobby/Pyro fics because like, they had the word ‘Bobby’ in them, and the bar is too low in my X-Men fic reading habits. And omg I fell asleep. I just. It was all just the standard m/m cookie cutter generic ‘good boy plus bad boy uwu yaoi-zowey’ bleh starring two not at all deeply written or well-acted meh-looking white dudes, and just. Why.

But that’s what I mean when I say I’m wary of fire/ice ships, because sometimes with powered characters like, authors think oh hey, LOOK ONE IS FIRE AND ONE IS ICE, THIS TOTALLY COUNTS AS THEM HAVING OPPOSITES ATTRACT PERSONALITIES AND THUS I DONT NEED TO GIVE THEM A PERSONALITY, RIGHT? Like. They’re just very boring and unimaginative in execution, just because they expect the basic premise of fire and ice/’obvious opposites attract, obviously’ to do all the work for them.

(Katey if you’re reading this I’m super for sure not talking about YOUR superpowered romances, because you are wonderful and GOOD at writing and imaginative, and thus none of this applies to you. Requisite disclaimer.)

So, when they did this random Bobby/’New Pyro Dude like where did he even come from I still dont know’ hook-up, I was prepared to like, yawn endlessly, because I figured it would be more boring imaginationless ‘ooh look what an obvious pair they are and yet still praise me for how clever I am for pairing them’ crap.

And I was absolutely right!

(But I mean, it was written by Marc Guggenheim, the odds of it sucking were totally in my favor. Betting against them being well-written under his pen might feasibly be construed as cheating. Whatever).

And also, the art did them ZERO favors, like I know they’re both generic blond dudes in their twenties, but I LITERALLY COULD NOT TELL WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE WHICH in any of the panels that they were like, in bed together or dressing or talking or literally anything until they started using their powers to fight bad guys. It was soooooooo bad. Like the art just manifested every ‘look at the white gay date his mirror reflection lol what is variety even’ cliche and beat you over the head with it.

(Also Bobby is supposed to have brown hair, which at least would’ve helped a LITTLE bit. Meh. Still was gonna suck because like, nobody had any intention of WRITING them together, like, developing their characters and laying the groundwork for a possible relationship. It was just ‘oh look, the fire and ice dude got drunk at a wedding and hooked up, cool deal, now on with the story.’)

Anyway, the ONLY redeeming potential for a Bobby/Simon relationship in my opinion is ENTIRELY due to a fic I read with them. Its probably the only fic written about Simon ever, lmfao, so its not like the writer’s characterization of him has any competition among either canon or other fans’ renditions of him. But it was pretty well written, I actually liked their portrayal of Bobby, which I’m SUPER picky about in fanfics, and they actually invested time in developing Simon and his POV and giving him an actual personality and shit, that wasn’t half bad. So if Simon was written like that in the comics and their relationship progressed in similar ways, I could feasibly be on board with them.

But it won’t, so I’m not. Meh. Anyway.

I actually really REALLY like both Shiro AND Neal, with the caveat that I hate Neal’s stupid offensive-ass codename, I know Claremont only named him Thunderbird because he introduced him in an anniversary issue that was supposed to be a call-back to the original Giant Size lineup, and he needed a stand-in for John Proudstar, but like....wtf Claremont, just use your brain and save Neal to introduce a whole issue later and stick Jamie in John’s place the way everyone else does. He literally went by Thunderbird in the comics already in his Hellion days, which YOU wrote, so why the fuck did you feel the need to be stupidly offensive and act like Native American people and traditions are interchangeable with those of a guy from India? Ugh he’s so....gah.

Anyway. So I actually like both Shiro and Neal, though pretty much only when people other than Claremont are writing them, lololol. Which is admittedly...rare. Because of all his pet characters, they’re both at the top of the list of ones nobody else has any interest in touching. Bizarrely, my favorite run involving Shiro was when he was randomly shoe-horned into that Alpha Flight relaunch in the late 90s, that only lasted a couple years? Dunno if you know what I’m talking about, the team with Radius, Flex, Murmur, Heather as Vindicator and Mac was a robot or some weird shit.

I have no real thoughts on either of them with Bobby though, for a fire and ice pairing. Tbh I can’t really see Bobby/Shiro like, at ALL lmfao. For one, Shiro’s always felt written as though he’s a good ten years older than Bobby at least. Like they’re not really compatible dialogue-wise lol. And he’s pretty much never had any patience for Bobby in the comics, which has a lot to do with most of their interactions being written by Claremont himself, and Claremont infamously haaaaaaates Bobby’s character and trashes him any chance he gets, aka the few times editorial makes him actually use Bobby in a script. But I also think even under other writers, like....Shiro honestly is not the type to have any patience for Bobby’s antics or brand of humor, like.....he’s like JP but without the superficial crush JP used in canon to view Bobby’s idiosyncrasies as endearing instead of migraine inducing. I don’t think any readers would buy someone of JP or Shiro’s personality-type crushing on Bobby twice, lololol.

I DO however kinda like the idea of Neal/Bobby? If someone ever actually brought Neal back and gave him a new codename and stuck him on a team with Bobby? They’ve also barely interacted in canon, and the only time I can think of, Neal was super rude and dismissive of Bobby, because like, Claremont was writing it of course, so it made total sense for him to have the dude who’s literally been an X-Man for two issues talk down to the X-Man of several decades like the latter had no clue what he was doing, lol. Oops, still slightly salty there.

But honestly, I doubt anyone who didn’t have hyperfixation fueled grudges on a fictional fave’s behalf would ever even remember that one canon interaction, and tbh Neal’s pretty much a blank slate character wise. His only defining traits from what little he’s been used are that he’s fairly young, in his early to mid-twenties, from a wealthy family, a little full of himself but in a ‘really wants to impress people and prove himself’ kinda way instead of an overly entitled ‘i genuinely believe I am superior to all you buffoons’ kinda way. And he was always endearingly enthusiastic and eager about new stuff he encountered from being with the X-Men.

(He was also randomly obsessed with Psylocke, but I truly think Claremont was like, well I’m just gonna write him like I would Warren Worthington because why not. So yeah, obvsly he’s super obsessed with Betsy. Duh.)

Anyway - I would like someone to do something interesting with Neal, and I think his and Bobby’s chemistry has a lot of potential and they could bounce off each other well.

Also, I like Rahul, but I was randomly fancasting some of the more obscure X-Men awhile back for Reasons (I forget what they were tbh, but I’m sure I had them. I usually do). I came across this Indian actor named Karan Tacker and was like ohhhhhhh he totally looks like he could be Neal Shaara.

I mean, I’ve literally never seen him act, so who knows what his acting is like, but since we’ve established Neal’s character is essentially whatever the person to actually use him next wants it to be, I don’t think that’s a big deal lol.

So this is totally superficially based casting, like I think this guy looks and ‘feels’ the way Neal’s typically been drawn and the kinda vibe he gives off.

Also, incidentally, having absolutely nothing to do with anything, let alone my selection process, by pure coincidence the dude just so happens to have abs for daaaaaaays.

But I mean. Like I said, that is neither here nor there. Obviously.

It’s been a while since I first addressed this ask, so it’s ‘bout time that I got around to doing that part two that I mentioned! (Part one here.) I’m referencing how canon Rome demonstrated his attitudes towards his death and his existence in the afterlife in Vol. 2’s strip “Grandpa Rome Pays a Visit” and the more-recent blog strip “Grandpa Rome’s Visit Home”. I wanted to go in-depth about the issue of how they view their deaths, but that means I ended up with more differences than similarities. Oops-- I hope you enjoy anyway!

In canon Rome’s visit with Germany, when he’s giving Germany a little history lesson, he glosses over everything with a nervous laugh and a scratch at the back of his head. I found this behavior extremely odd coming from a personification of Rome, a culture that very much prided itself on preserving its own history to the point that it made shit up about itself all the time just so that there wouldn’t be any plot-holes. Even if Rome was bashful about some part of his history (there are some kinda embarrassing hiccups), I don’t really buy it that Rome would just act apathetic about his history and avoid the subject. He’d probably make something up to compensate or paint things in more dire straits than they were to make himself look good. (Like for instance, Rome in canon just passively mentioning “beat the crap out of Carthage” like it was yesterday’s news instead of announcing it as an epic struggle of a beaten but divinely-favored underdog overcoming a tyrannical, morally-corrupt superpower that Romans actually framed it as. Take some pride in your own history, man!) Lucius wouldn’t pull any punches with telling people about his history.

But, that’s generally-speaking. Now, talking about his own death? Canon Rome initially starts to reveal how he foolishly thought that his wealth and glory would last forever, but then suddenly goes extremely vague and claims that “the next thing I knew, that thing happened” and never explains what that thing is. It’s more understandable that a dead personification would dodge questions about their own death, because I’d imagine it’s not really a pleasant thing for any of them to talk about.

Lucius isn’t exactly eager to relay how he kicked the bucket either, mostly because it’s extremely shameful for him. Suicide was the proper Stoic response to the universe letting you know that your life isn’t “natural” anymore, and it was also a proper soldier’s response to the threat of capture by an enemy (in both cases, a man’s suicide was the preservation of his dignity); so in that regard, he’s not ashamed of how he died. He’s very ashamed of what kind of person he was when he died, though. Broken, beaten, pathetic, and practically-prideless, Rome was a shell of his former self. He had a lot of reason to be, but still-- for a man that built much of his external and internal image of himself around his perseverance, it’s a pretty shameful way to be when death comes. Maybe if Rome died in a dramatic final clash he’d actually talk about it openly, but given that the state ended up falling mostly out of internal weakness it’s a bit of a sore thing to talk about. So yeah, Lucius would be vague. He wouldn’t come off as lackadaisical about it but that just comes down to a big difference in overall demeanor between canon Rome and my Rome. If Lucius were given a microphone from the afterlife, he’d probably just say:

Touching on his attitude presented in the strip “Grandpa Rome Visits Home”, there’s not much complaint I have here aside from, again, the personality differences. Rome is understandably upset at how much things have changed from the time of Roman rule, but he’s reassured by the fact that the world remembers his legacy and that now he can be at peace in death. The first thing is probably the most reassuring, because in Roman culture great emphasis was placed upon having a concrete legacy and being remembered. You can find this theme throughout the writings of Romans, such as Ovid, who wrote that his soul (the memory of himself) was contained within his book Metamorphoses and he would essentially live on through that. Having inscriptions of your face and name was also very important, because it was a more concrete form of remembrance through time. So if you really wanted to do someone dirty when they died, you’d have as much physical evidence of their existence erased as possible. On a bigger scale, it’s probably why Romans tended to get rid of evidence of the culture of a people they conquered, like (as it’s theorized) the large-scale burning and destruction of Etruscan culture, particularly their literature, after Roman conquest.

Really, though, Lucius definitely doesn’t need someone to remind him of the impact of his existence on the course of history. If he could look on at how much he influenced history for centuries to come, he wouldn’t be surprised at all. There’s never been any doubt in his mind of his own impact, even prior to his death.

But, I do take issue with the last bit, where Germania implies that “being liberated from your boss and war” is a good thing. In the Aeneid, basically a mythological treatise on Romans’ views of themselves, Aeneas’ father Anchises remarked: “remember, Roman… to rule the nations as their master: these thine arts shall be, to engraft the law of peace, forbear the conquered, and war down the proud.” In essence, the Roman art was to make war and conquer other peoples. Although Romans liked to think that their wars of conquest were ultimately “self-defense” it’s pretty undeniable that the Roman machine of state was a fundamentally militaristic one in terms of foreign contact. I’d argue that Rome’s biggest pride re: how it interacted with the world is it’s success in conquering others. Juxtapose this with a civilization like Greece, that prided itself on its cultural influence. That all taken into consideration, and I don’t know how much Rome would really feel satisfied with a life of eternal peace that wasn’t won by conquest. For my Rome, since he died without a grand final stand, he’d be pretty dissatisfied and peace wouldn’t be very reassuring. A dissatisfied (or improperly buried) Roman ghost tends to wander so maybe that’s why everyone’s seeing him all over the place… Lucius may want peace and relaxation, but he’s really just too much of a psycho to live with it.

the story that doesn’t know what genre it wants to be

my brain had an idea for a sci-fi/adventure/dystopia story, and here we are. we have the wonderful Sanders Sides in the starring roles, along with some ocs because I needed to put the name “calrex bennova” somewhere. enjoy my headcannons as offering #1 :)

The Universe:

-Made up of thousands of galaxies, what we mortals call “AUs”

-Common languages include Laolae, Kirou, Aresan, and Falafel (I was hungry writing this)

-Rumors say that there is a dangerous creature lurking in the cold depths of space, but only conspiracy theorists on message holograms would believe that...

-Strings of galaxies are often ruled under one leader, because most species are kind and have their act together unlike humans

-Speaking of humans, Earth is dead. :) there was a great meme war (haha no, it was something much more dark...)

-Logan, Roman, Patton, and Virgil are all outlaws aboard the ship Sanders Yersinia, all with prices on their heads.

Logan:

-A highly advanced prototype of AI-ingrained people. They look like people, function like people, but don’t have icky emotions get in the way of reasoning and judgement.

-Oops Logan’s creator made a mistake so Logan does have something resembling emotions.

-His original name is L.O.G.I.C., but whatever it stood for was lost to a fire, in which Logan’s creator also perished. Patton called him Logan by accident, and the name just stuck.

-He is wanted for trying to break into a laboratory to “fix” himself and reprogram himself.

-Logan is quiet and suffers from love... of learning. He unfortunately doesn’t have infinite memory, so he sometimes must delete some of his knowledge in order to acquire new information.

-He is actually connected to the Cloud, which remained after Earth screwed themselves, so he understands all human languages and also has a secret habit of going onto human websites like Tumblr and YouTube. (He enjoys book commentaries and audiobooks.)

-The most mature of the crew of Sanders Yersinia; plays adult way too often for his liking

Roman Prionsa:

-A usurped prince from the Galaxy DR-34-M (i’m not creative lololol), on the run from the new King’s soldiers, who want to finish the job of destroying the royal family.

-The biggest idiot of the crew

-After Virgil introduced him to Disney, with the (unwilling) help of Logan, Roman won’t stop singing the songs and quoting them from heart. Virgil regrets his decision.

-He suffers from constant nightmares, in which his family is burned alive at the stake at the hands of the one who exiled him and he can do nothing but watch.

-Roman is very generous and understanding and gentle to everyone but can be extra and obnoxious with the flip of a Bitch Switch, which has landed the crew in several less-than-optimal situations.

-One time Roman tried to out-flirt a mermaid on an aquaterrestrial planet and ending up burning down a couple trees and getting his head blown up double its size by said mermaid. (“It’s finally big enough to fit your ego!” -Virgil)

-Despite his overly-dramatic “charm”, he won’t hesitate do run into battle if it means saving his crew members or innocent bystanders. He will also be extremely serious when the time calls for it.

-He occasionally wears make-up because a pRINCE HAS GOT TO SLAY

-Oh Roman also has butterfly wings he can unveil at any time and an everlasting flower crown/halo of light around his head. He was born glamorous.

Patton Hart:

-His real name is Pattryon Heartasea, but “Patton Hart” is so much easier to say (and it doesn’t autocorrect, so there’s that, too).

-He lived in a magical world called Noira, and is called a Drisine, also known as Shapeshifters.

-Patton’s “true form” is a woodland creature similar to a centaur, but galloping is not allowed in the ship, so he has to settle for running around as a human. Patton’s true form is beautiful, full of flowers and cookies and everything fluffy ever to exist. You will actually die if you look upon his true form (unless you’re a Drisine yourself) because no-one can handle something so pure.

-He has telekinesis, enhanced reflexes, and a larger spectrum of emotions.

-This makes it harder from him to articulate his feelings, leaving him feeling misunderstood and sad.

-The crew is known as the Patton Protection Squad, and will hunt down and destroy anyone who even looks at Patton wrong. They are alternatively known as the Virgil Protection Squad.

-Patton loves baking and enjoys visiting markets on whichever planet they visit to gain new recipes and is already to cook for his fellow crew mates.

-He is the closest thing the crew has to a fighter/soldier. But Patton doesn’t believe in hurting others who’re just doing what they’re told, so he refuses to fight, much to the dismay of everyone else.

-His crime is refusing to fight. Noira is very close to Roman’s home planet, and thus is also under the rule of Roman’s family. As a teenager Drisine (his seventies in human years), he refused to fight for the royal family because it was against his morals and was thusly imprisoned.

-Roman, on a tour on the castle in preparation for the day he would succeed his parents, saw Patton in a cell and immediately had him freed.

-Roman and Patton are now inseparable friends and will die for each other without hesitation.

Virgil Sorge:

-The last survivor from Earth. He witnessed its destruction and is now anxious that every little thing will destroy the last things he loves in his life.

-He was 20 when he was picked up by a alien ship surrounded by blue and red lights.

-He‘s quiet and moody and has really low alcohol tolerance, as discovered by Roman.

-One of the only things from Earth that he took with him is his hoodie, which his mother hand-knit for him for his sixteenth birthday and is basically the last thing he has to remind him of her.

-He knows every MCR, P!ATD, TOP, FOB, Green Day, Black Veil Brides, NateWantsToBattle, and Ivalo song there ever was (note: ivalo is not a real band, please don’t be confused when search results yield nothing about them).

-He’s overprotective of his crew members and is always the first one to offer medical help in any situation.

-Virgil is Logan’s apprentice. Logan knows there will be a day that he will break, so he’s training Virgil to do all of his jobs when that day comes. Virgil, of course, just thinks Logan wants to show off his knowledge, but he’ll do anything that’ll prove his worth.

-Virgil technically never committed any crime, he was just so grateful to be saved from the dying Earth that he fought alongside the crew and eventually people just decided four troublemakers in jail is better than three.

Calrex Bennova:

-My OC who I love. go and fight me. You can’t win against someone with a name this cool.

-Calrex is from a planet lost to time and space. They hardly remember anything from their past, other than screaming and their parents’ silver eyes full of tears. (Foreboding, I know. You’re welcome my brain writes nothing but angst)

-If they were human, they were be a mix between Alaskan Native American, Latinx, East Asian, and Pacific Islander. They basically look like a fusion between Yuuri Katsuki, Moana, Miguel from Coco, and an Inuit (I can’t name any Alaskan Native Americans because there’s NO REPRESENTATION in the media).

-They’re originally found by the crew in a dark back alley behind a pub called “Sleeping Stars” and are taken into the crew because 1. they’re a badass bitch and the crew needs an actual fighter and 2. they have some pretty rough injuries.

-When they wake up, they freak because why are they in a spaceship? and why is someone watching them as if they care? and if they don’t want to claim the bounty on their head, and they don’t want their body, what the fUCK DO THEY WANT? FRIENDSHIP?

-Cal is known intergalatically as “The Pirate” because they have a history of petty offenses. Oh, and they also are rumored to have wiped out an entire galaxy without mercy. But even Cal doesn’t remember that, so...

-They always wear combat boots. Always. Even to bed.

-Their first night in the ship, they refuse to sleep with everyone else in the Dorms, so they sleep in the Control Center on the floor. But a mysterious member of the crew brings a sleeping Cal a blanket and a pillow :) kindness still exists, happily

Thomas:

-The Sanders Yersinia’s A.I.

-Loves making puns, overanalyzing every possible outcome of every possible situations, informing their passengers of useful information at the worst possible moment, and playing Disney songs to wake Roman up from his beauty sleep.

-Logan even designed an avatar for Thomas that appears on the screen, though only his waist above is ever shown.

-He can never be sad. Ever. You are doomed to always have an optimist’s perspective at the worst of moments.

I just started reading FFAK like 3 days ago and I've already caught up because I love it so much! I'm kinda confused though. At one point at page 2619, we have a scene where we see the crosshatch unit acting like scissor instead of cash, but we know scissor wasnt in crosshatch until way after this point in time right? Am I getting my time frames mixed up?

We haven’t seen much of Cash’s perspective over the years, but its not so much that she is acting like SCISSOR cuz.. #1 he didnt exist... so its more like.. her and spoon just are rather similar individuals? that early version of her personality/behavior was during a time when she was still sorta young and totally unhinged. she didn’t really understand emotions or empathy and acted in very extreme behaviors. much like.. how spoon acts! although once cash gained that perspective on how others felt-- as well as some other life experiences which influenced changes-- she corrected her behavior to be kinder to others because she didnt like upsetting/hurting people. meanwhile, spoon is ttly aware of how others feel, he just doesnt change his ways b/c he likes to upset people. cuz hes a fucking asshole. So, when Spoon is acting as his Scissor persona, he also just attempts to amp up that silly cartoonish nature that is inspired by his best friend, who is his best friend partly because they both have a lot of things in common already! and bonded over those traits/experiences they share. like in the end they’re both into a sort of dark sort of.. “”humor”” of life but they also have deep compassion for others. (spoons just exceptionally picky about who he cares about, cash cares abt everyone.)So.. anyway!! the differences between them might not seem very apparent but they are there. its just sort of subtle to pick apart. (one thing tho, cash is the one who loves memes.)I hope that kind of makes a bit of sense for now?? we’ll be sure to get more of an insight on Cash’s backstory. its just.. like many things with ffak, a very long story.(I like to think that young cash was far more destructively violent (and doesnt know own strength) and oblivious (doesn’t understand social cues or how ppl communicate with eachother) vrs scissor who is acting goofy lawll!! but actually being very methodical as he picks apart the people around him to influence his goals. scissor also has a much more chill and relaxed, natural posture/body language, while cash was like..very stiff and ‘robotic’ and took up a lot of space no matter where she went, sometimes disregarded using a door and just walked thru walls, ect ect. i could go on all night oops)

She's definitely referring to Adolin as the whitespine here, hinting entirely unsubtly that she believes he (or at least a Kholin or one of their army) killed her husband. But does she have information we don't know about? Also, mark 2 for Adolin being associated with whitespines.

Go Adolin, that is exactly what needed to be said. And! Ialai's actually listening! She's treating Shallan like little more than a servant, though, and that is a very deliberate slight to her honor/authority.

!!! So. Ialai has no idea of Mraize's Ghostblood affiliations? Okay, okay, I'm now less on edge regarding this interview.

Oh shit, Shallan, he knows. Did you honestly think he wouldn't have that tidbit of information?

The spren “have a destination in mind”. That does not bode well. Odium will need an army, not just a Champion, and turning them all in one place might be his plan rather than leaving them in smaller numbers with a better chance of getting overwhelmed by Rosharan forces.

Speaking of things the Parshmen stole from you, have you been checking back with the spanreed to- Ahhh, no, they took that too.

The spren! Stone/earth associations at the moment; perhaps flame, but that's colour alone. Still not entirely sure what kind of spren she is.

Well. That Tukari “god-king” seems… unhinged. He's not going to roll over anytime soon, and I worry that Dalinar might end up fighting a war on two or more fronts here. Negotiation isn't going to do anything.

No one believes that you won't attack. No one believes that you, in particular, have changed, and what reason would they have to do so? No more than they do to believe that the warring Alethi will do anything else either.

How much of a tyrant will you be, Dalinar Kholin?

Chapter 25 – The Girl Who Looked Up

The sketch-picture page preceding this chapter is really unsettling. Seriously, Shallan, you need a therapist.

The note before the chapter isn't particularly reassuring either.

Perhaps there is information here, and you just haven't delved deep enough to find it.

A theatre! Oh man, yeah, Pattern would love the theatre. THE BEST KIND OF LIES.

Acting out the play with stormlight figures! Excellent practice for moving illusions that are separate from the Radiant.

Bit of an Attack on Titan vibe going on from that wall and the lack of wondering about its origins.

Eyeless crowd? Creepy, Shallan. You'd better save some of that spherelight for your walk back too.

“All but one” WAIT. WHAT. A shadowy figure? Spren or human? Considering Shallan, could be either.

Aaaaaand she's slipping into Radiant's personality again. Again the name changes.

Why the different light-versions of yourself? To confuse the shadow? To light the room? What…? I'm confused.

Oh, shit- Yeah, spren. With extra body horror.

She's changing personalities even easier than before. It seems she's still consciously doing it, but she doesn't have to spend any time getting into the mindset of another personality anymore. It simply flows.

Rock? It attacked Rock? Like Shallan stabbed the Horneater called Ur at the bar. And after Sadeas, that mirror-murder was a soldier. The spren – it has to be this shadow-spren - it's looking for at least some physical commonalities in its choice of victim. It's not just murder it's reenacting either – just. Violence. Maybe there needs to be blood involved? Or an emotion like fear?

“I don't want to be blind anymore.” Oooo, another seeking secrets. This definitely won't be the last we see of you, Ishnah.

Chapter Twenty-Six – Blackthorn Unleashed

So the Heralds are still 'worshipped' in Iri, even if the names are changed, and they have a similar practice of burning prayers. The largest difference is the 'god' at the top of the chain – possibly split between Honor and Cultivation, or perhaps the origin of the Iriali's 'One' stretches all the way back to Adonalsium.

Oh, you'll know in a few decades what it takes to earn the ardent's displeasure, and by then you'll care more about it as well.

I love Evi already.

Dalinar “what are hugs” Kholin

Chapter Twenty-Seven – Playing Pretend

Shallan curled up all comfortably is a good sign. The fact that the strange shadow-figure is definitely some kind of Odium-spren, not at all. Also not encouraging is that Shallan refers to “Radiant” as if she were separate.

Something is cutting off their lines of communication. Deliberately. Fuuuuuuuuuck.

I support Aladar in the use of some judicious ass-kicking.

YES GIVE US MORE ON THE NEW MAYBE-RADIANT. 'Spark' is a good name for a spren, but that bit about destroying things… We need to know what kind of spren the Dustbringers bond to. Now.

Chapter Twenty-Nine – No Backing Down

Back to Veil again, and worrying about Shallan's mental state.

Her description of the thing she saw, that she knows is watching – the sound of a tunnel extending into darkness, the feel of breath on the back of your neck in a dark room – I'm definitely creeped out. Consider me creeped.

Do your soldiers know you as Veil, or do they only know Shallan? Ahh, just Shallan. So it remains that only the Ghostbloods know about your dual (at least) nature.

A fingering joke, are you kidding me. Well, at least he's taking her rejection with nothing more than an ah well.

Her personalities are delineating themselves, becoming more distinct and real unto themselves. But was it any of these main three – Shallan, Veil, and Radiant – that drew the disturbing pictures? She remembers what she does as those three, so what if there's another personality lurking, submerged, that she doesn't know about….? I am concern.

Yeah, I thought it might be the hanging rather than the bashing. Given the choice, it'll probably go for the more violent of two acts.

Truthwatchers and Lightweavers share the Illumination Surge. Perhaps their ability to sense the wrongness - “illuminating” the hiding shadow, if you will – is tied to that.

Of course Adolin's going to dash right in to cover the retreat, Shallan, what did you expect?

And now we finally get a bit of description of the Glysblade(?) - “long and thin, with a waving pattern to the metal” - still no indication if curved or straight, but my current guesstimate is katana-like

Well then. To fight or back down? You noted only moments ago that she could have swept you away with little effort. With light in the hands of a Lightweaver, will that be enough to do… whatever it is you're planning?

Not sure what to think of this, if she's thinking it in a literal manner or on a deeper level. It could be a sign of self-realization, or it might not.

Whatever it is, everyone is screwed if you don't manage to at least make it retreat.

Chapter Thirty – Mother of Lies

That title alone is unsettling.

“not completely aware, not completely cognizant.” So, like pretty much all the other non-bonded spren in the Physical Realm, except this is definitely a Thing Of Odium. And it immediately tries to tear the Nahel bond apart.

!!! She's a true Splinter then?

It's gone all dark and Pattern's physically there in his larger form – I'd lay spheres that they're somehow halfway into (or at least dipping a toe into) the Cognitive Realm.

They bound her. One of the Unmade, and a Lightweaver of the past actially managed to bind her. But with all these shadows coming up into Urithiru… I doubt that's the case right now. She was freed, or broke free. And now she remains close, though deeper in the bowels of the mountain.

….you could hold a lot of stormlight in those gems.

An aesthetic song. They both know that things won’t ever be perfect, but they have each other and that will be enough. Even during times when the routine of running and fighting and barely scraping by drives them to the edge.

Reminded to me of the end of the third book. So near the end of the struggle, where they are separated again and the feeling is almost bittersweet but they do find each other again. Like how they say they aren’t leaving each other even when they aren’t together.

DNA - Clarity

(Todd) His life in New Prentisstown living without Viola. (Viola) Her life with the Healers learning about the growing rebellion against the Mayor. They feel out of place, lost, feeling the tension around them, but remembering that the other is out there somewhere.

No explanation needed, it’s all the lyrics. Let your sappy OTP loving heart be free with this song.

Don’t Let Go - Adam Taylor

An instrumental song. It’s from a soundtrack, but give it a chance. This one is hard to put into words, but somehow it just has that heartbreaking and yet hopeful feel to it that captures them well.

The End of All Things - Panic! at the Disco

Another sappy OTP song. This song makes me cry every damn time. ‘In these coming years’ makes me think of when Todd finally wakes up, and they know they’ll be together for the rest of eternity.

Fears - MTNS

The sense of sadness they both feel when they fear that the other has betrayed them (aka when Viola sees Todd with the uniform on walking with Davy, when Todd thinks Viola voluntarily left to join the Answer/when he saw her hug the Mayor).

Feels Like The End - Shawn Alexander

Their time separated in New Prentisstown. There are parts that remind me of the desperation Todd felt when Viola was shot and they were greeted by an empty Haven and Mayor Prentiss.

Glass Heart Hymn - Paper Route

This song gave me “ Chaos Walking “ vibes. Yes, Todd and Viola are still the main focus but it feels almost like an anthem for the story as a whole. ‘One brother’s dead, a new brother’s born’ - Davey getting killed, Todd being replaced as the son in the Mayor’s mind. The chorus of Hallelujahs from female voices like the Answer cutting into the men’s chaotic world. ‘Memories as heavy as a stone’ - the horrible acts that happened in Prentisstown’s past. I could go on and on about this song.

Hurts Like Hell - Fleurie

(Viola) That horrible, horrible moment at the end of the last book when Todd died. Because he did die, and before Ben heard Todd’s Noise deep deep down, they both thought he was gone forever. And she broke.

Heart Hope - Oh Wonder

There’s a bunch of Oh Wonder on here, oops. But their aesthetic is so mesmerizing. And because Hope was a theme in their story, this song seemed fitting. Even if they both never really thought they felt it.

Home - Gabrielle Aplin

(Viola) The girl who’s never had a home outside the walls of a spaceship. Journeying the new world with Todd, keeping her parents in her heart, trying to see if she can really find a home on this new planet, and realizing that home is wherever Todd is.

Human - Daughter

(Viola) About Todd. Especially when he seems distant because his Noise is lost to her, when he seems lost from her in general, when it feels like they might lose. When she’s questioning her own humanity.

Just My Soul Responding - Amber Run

You guessed it! Another OTP song. A bit of an angsty one, when they feel like they’re divided because of the choices they are making in New Prentisstown.

Kids - Stranger Things

Because at the heart of it all, Todd and Viola are just kids. They have seen a lot but they are young, and they are resilient, and they are brave and brilliant and a bit broken.

Landslide - Oh Wonder

Wow another Oh Wonder song, is anyone shocked? This song is really adorable and sweet. It’s just about people being supportive and kind and caring to each other. Which is exactly what these two have with each other.

Livewire - Oh Wonder

Whoops, another. Not sorry. The moments before they kiss. And then they finally do.

Lost Stars - Begin Again

(Viola) The lyrics will explain it better than I can. Because even though Viola was met with death and fear from the second she landed, she still has a soft heart and won’t lose who she is.

Get ready to cry. From the viewpoint of either of them in the moments when they thought they were going to die in the arms of the other.

Catching glimpses of each other in New Prentisstown. Separation. Hoping against hope that they would be together again soon. I feel this is more from Todd’s point of view than Viola’s, but both work.

(Todd) As the world is watching him become a solider against his will, fighting a war he never wanted and did everything he could to stop.

Madness - Ruelle

Both Todd and Viola being held down by the Mayor’s control and unhinged mind. Watching as he plunges them into war. Watching the world start to burn all around them.

Sledgehammer - Rihanna

These kids keep getting the hell back up every damn they fall. Reminded me of this quote from the book: “Here’s what I think. I think maybe everyone falls. I think maybe we all do. And I don’t think that’s the asking. I think the asking is whether we get back up again.”

Start A Riot - BANNERS

Both Todd and Viola questioned how dangerous they can be when fighting for each other. Everyone around them knows they would burn the entire world down for each other. They fought and won that war for each other.

Start of Time - Gabrielle Aplin

This song was written about the feeling of relief and release that someone experiences when they finally find someone who shares similar ways of thinking, ways of viewing the world, similar experiences. It’s a story of feeling lost and alone but finally being understood. Because the rest of the world always thinks they understand Todd and Viola, but they don’t. They have each other for that feeling of belonging.

True Love - Once Upon A Time

Okay I will admit that this song is a bit cheesy for them, but the title grabbed my attention and I still love this song in general. For those of you who watch/watched the show like I did, you know what scene this is from. When I listened to it for this playlist, I imagined it as the end of the last book, starting with the two of them on the beach right after the Mayor finally gave in. Moving to when Todd was hit, moving to realizing he was alive, moving to past the book’s end to when he wakes up finally.

Wait - M83

Another aesthetic song, really. I’m not sure how to describe it, but it just has a certain feel to it. Some scenario where the two of them are silent next to each other, gazing up at the stars. Or the two of them being separated and staring up at the sky at the same time, wondering where the other is.

The Way - Zack Hemsey

(Todd) This song is pretty intense. It is gritty, and painful, and emotional, and brought me this sense of clash and broken-but-not-taken-down. It builds and builds and builds.

White Blood - Oh Wonder

Ah yes another Oh Wonder song that also doubles as another sappy OTP song. Enjoy.

Wondering - Jaymes Young

Flips flops perspectives between the two of them, during the time when they were separated.

Who We Want To Be - Tom Day

Another instrumental piece because I’m a sucker for instrumental pieces. This song always has the ability to make me a pile of angsty feelings. It’s bittersweet. Hopeful but sad. Light but deeply intense. And the title really seemed to fit them and their struggles, their war inside themselves as war begins and people die because of what they’re doing.

To Build A Home - The Cinematic Orchestra

(Todd) Think about Ben. And Cillian. And Todd. And how everything was taken from them so suddenly, before any of them were ready. How their small family was broken apart and how Todd lost his home and dads all in one fateful moment.
