being told that he'd be the lead vocalist of the new group 'varsity', and even with the announcement of moving dorms, seojun can feel that he's definitely getting one step closer to his reason for being where he is today. of course, it's all thanks to his hard work and dedication that he's even able to claim a spot in the group, though he also thanks his looks for one of the main reasons why.
of course anyone who truly knows him would know that he's someone who would undoubtably use others around him as 'stepping stones' to get what he wants, though to anyone else who doesn't know him... well, that would forever be his secret. was he greedy? yes, he was. in fact that's one of the reasons why he became this way and even as he continues to run through the list of his new fellow members, he can't help but question who would possibly be the ones he'd get along with and who he'd butt heads with.
only time would tell. until then, he tells himself the same thing he always does in these situations — fake it 'til you make it.
he stands there, suitcase by his side and airpods in his ears as he watches his fellow members walking through their new apartment. for him it doesn't really matter which bedroom he gets, especially since they all get their own rooms in the end, so he's in no real hurry to decide on where his new 'private space' will be at from now on. as long as he has a door and a lock, he'll be satisfied either way.
it's not entirely like he plans on making enemies of his members, though the undeniable truth of him being used to being alone was there and showed even more at times when he was grouped together with others. maybe it was due to the fact that he grew up in the environment that he had which made him grow used to not really relying on others, or maybe it was because he just didn't really know how to interact with others as well as most did. either way he would at least do his best to make sure they all at least kept things civil. who knows? maybe he might actually grow close to those in his group... maybe.
after giving the others some time to choose their own rooms, seojun makes his way towards one of the free rooms that's left, glancing around and taking in the view before he places his suitcase on the bed. he unzips it and begins to unpack slowly, making sure to also organize everything as he does so. another thing about him was that he preferred everything to be tidy and in it's rightful place, a trait that he picked up from his father over the years. was he proud of this? well, it was one of the things he could proudly say he picked up from the man.
seojun stops the moment he picks up a family photo, eyes narrowing slightly as his gaze scans over each individual in the photo. his mother, him, and his father. now, he didn't exactly hate his father, especially since his parents had been completely supportive of his dream, though behind closed doors the two would occasionally have their moments of quarrelling over the most trivial things.
shaking the thoughts out of his head, seojun places the picture into the drawer along with a note before closing it, almost as if he's locking it away forever. the contents of the letter being words which helped keep him going, words that were not only written to him, but also spoken to him by his own father. all of them stuck with seojun over the years, though there was something specific that was told to him the day he began his journey to become an idol. words that would haunt him forever.
'if you're serious about this, then you better make it. don't think that, just because we're supportive of you going down this path that there won't be consequences if you fail. don't do something stupid to ruin your mother's reputation because if you do... well, you'll no longer be my son. remember what i taught you — don't trust so easily, do whatever it takes to succeed, do not make a fool of yourself and bring shame to this family and most of all... don't let anyone know where you come from. once you've made it? then you'll be able to claim a spot in this family.'
that's right, his family may seem like the perfect family to others, but despite his father giving him the 'ok' to become an idol, the man didn't truly believe in him. the only reason why he had agreed to it all was due to his mother's persuasion. if it weren't for her then he wouldn't even be where he is now.
a small sigh escapes from him as he plops down on his new bed, staring up at the ceiling as he mentally prepares himself for the phone call he's about to make.
"here goes nothing..." and with those words spoken, seojun digs out his phone from his pocket, scrolling through to find his father's contact name before tapping on the screen a few times and holding the device up to his ear. it rings a few times, even making seojun think that the man wouldn't pick up his call, especially since they hadn't spoken much since the day he entered the company. he's about to give up when he suddenly hears the familiar voice on the other side. "didn't i tell you not to contact me unless it was for holiday's or you finally made a name for yourself?"
those words cause him to scoff slightly as he sits up. "well, i guess i called when i was supposed to then. right?" there's a long pause, the sound of papers shuffling on the other end of the line. "just say what you have to. i'm busy and have a meeting soon."
of course, work had always taken priority over his own son, even back when seojun was a child it was hard to even have a conversation with the man or even receive the slightest bit of 'affection' from him. "fine, i won't waste your precious time. i just wanted to call and update you with the news of me being put into a group. not like you care, but it's called 'varsity'. thought you'd want to at least know that so you can have your assistant keep tabs on me, that way i don't embarrass you or anything."
more silence and more papers shuffling around, though this time his father's assistant can be heard in the background mentioning that it's time for the meeting. "don't screw this up." and with that, the line goes dead leaving seojun there to sit in silence as he stares off into space, thoughts running wild. what did he expect exactly? a 'good job' or 'i'm proud of you'? no, because the day that his father said either of those things to him? well, hell would freeze over when that happened.
this should be a happy occasion for seojun, instead it somehow felt like he failed. he was doing this all for himself but why did it still feel like he was doing it all just to try and please his father in some way? when it had been announced that he was one of the members, seojun had felt happy(?), but at what cost? either he played his cards right and he gained the love and affection of millions, or he fucked up and got disowned by his own father for 'embarrassing the family'. there was no in between and a part of him deep down just honestly wanted to hear the encouraging words of 'you did amazing. i'm proud of you' by at least one person.
he scoffs at the thought, smirking slightly as he stands and heads towards the door. instead of wallowing in self-pity, he'd rather head back to the label and get some practice in. it would help keep his mind off of things and keep all unwanted thoughts from slithering their way into his mind.

As Jaeyoung packed up his vacation home, he couldn't help but feel a bittersweet mix of emotions. On the one hand, he had thoroughly enjoyed his time off and wished that it could have lasted longer. On the other hand, he was eager to return to work and get back into the swing of things. He knew the upcoming weeks would be filled with long training sessions, vocal and choreography practice, and a level of physical and mental exhaustion that would be difficult to shake off. Nevertheless, he felt ready to tackle the challenges ahead and was determined to give it his all.
Jaeyoung walked back into the label with a confident stride. Upon hearing that he had secured the top spot, he couldn't contain his excitement and jumped up and down shouting "Yes!" He then turned to his friend Sungho, who had also placed in the top five and offered him a similar aggressive congratulations. Playfully tossing Sungho's hair, he grinned and joked, "Well, not everyone can be number one, right?"
Jaeyoung's morale took a significant hit as he discovered that he was not selected to be the leader, despite being the one who represented the group. He nodded in disappointment, wondering if his strong personality was the reason behind not getting the role. Doubt crept in, and he couldn't help but wonder if his dancing or singing skills also played a part in the decision.
As the day progressed, it became apparent that Jaeyoung felt entirely withdrawn. During the group's transportation to their new destination, Jaeyoung sat by himself with his headphones in, sporting a pair of dark YSL shades that concealed his eyes, and a black les hommes hoodie that covered his head. It was evident that he was not in the best of spirits, and it seemed as though he had no interest in engaging with anyone at the moment. As they approached their destination, Jaeyoung couldn't help but wonder whether he was mad for not being selected for the leader position, or if it had something to do with Sungho being selected instead. It was clear that Jaeyoung was going through a tough time, and one could only hope that he would soon be able to snap out of it and rejoin the group with a more positive attitude.
Admittedly enough, as Jaeyoung stepped foot in the 2300sq ft, original oak wooden floors, engraved ceilings, and a fantastic view - a smile crept up on his face. He couldn't help it; luxury made him happy. Uncoincidentally, Jaeyoung and Sungho shared a suite. As Jaeyoung unpacked his backpack, he stopped abruptly - staring at his friend, "Bro, I'm mad low-key."

– changing tides
@hdjae
moving into a new apartment, debuting. all things sebastian wasn’t sure he would ever have, and yet here he was, packing his bags and closing a chapter, starting a new one. it felt crazy to think that so much changed in the last few months, and he was now getting to make his own music. sing. still, it felt like the end of an era. he had mixed feelings for sure. he bit at his lower lip as he stared at all the items that were left askew in his dorm room, and moved to pick them up, carefully, one at a time. he was waiting for jae to come join him, the younger male offering to help him move. it was sweet of him, and he would never say no to seeing more of him, not when it made his heart full, and lips curl up, smile so wide.
when he heard the knock on the door, and the text signifying that jae had arrived, he quickly opened the door for him and let the taller male in, cheeks rosy, and smile so soft, “hey, you made it.” he breathed out in english, their shared language, fingers reaching out to hold his hand, fingers easily slipping between the spaces so they could lace together instead, palms resting comfortably against each other. “i missed you.” he let out softly, feeling his cheeks burn, in the past he would cringe for letting such words out, but as time kept moving, he found himself growing more used to such words, and looking forward to saying them to jae.
“thank you for coming. i need to just pack everything away, and i’d be ready to move out.” he voiced out his thoughts softly, licking his lower lip as he ducked his head before leaning in to press a soft kiss onto his cheek, lips quirking upwards into a small smile, “are you excited about the group announcement and the fact that we’re all going to have our own space now? it’s exciting but- also we aren’t roommates…” he trailed off, cheeks jutting out and lower lip forming into a small, cute pout, “that’s okay though, we’ll just have to sneak into each other’s apartments then.” sebastian laughed, eyes bright and playful.
