He likes to poke fun at social standards, gender roles and sometimes do those type of jokes you’d expect from an older person. His jokes are often harmless and doesn’t come at the expense of others.  Character’s greatest joy in life: Art and his family Character’s greatest fear: Not being able to fend for said family.  Why?: Being an artist is time consuming and sometimes doesn’t pay well. He’s the one that has offered his children a home and he wants them to be able to grow up in a stable environment. His OCD often play on this fear of his, especially when it comes to his own art and the level of perfection he feels he has to meet.   What single event would most throw this character’s life into complete turmoil?: Character is most at ease when: At home in his studio, working or watching a movie with any of the kids.  Most ill at ease when: Dealing with deadlines, talking about his older brother, when his OCD act up Enraged when: It’s really hard to make Matías enraged?? It’s not as big of a hindrance as it used to be, but still gets him in trouble sometimes. Why?: Because it gets in the way of him enjoying his own work and steals a lot of time. It basically forces him to go through a ritual before and after he works on his art pieces and if he messes up or if someone interrupts he could end up trashing the whole art piece -- thus needing to start over. It’s expensive at that, art supplies don’t come cheap.  Character’s soft spot: I feel like that’s obvious by now.  Is this soft spot obvious to others?: Yes. Greatest strength: His patience and generosity towards people, he’s overall a great person to lean on if you got troubles or need help with anything.  Greatest vulnerability or weakness: However, it’s also a weakness as it’s easy to take advantage of a soft soul and his brother already proved that point.  Biggest regret: Letting his brother set up business through him, thus helping him network and possibly scam others.  Minor regret: He always lowkey regets throwing away his art work, but it cannot be helped.  Biggest accomplishment: His career! Drives and motivations: Besides his family and career, Matías is highly driven towards pushing more information about color blindness and making society more accessible to those that have a harder time reading and seeing colors. He does the occasional speech and educational seminar when he has time to spare.  Immediate goals: Catch up with all his deadlines.  Long term goals: Have a stable future, watch his kids grow up, work on his OCD.  How the character plans to accomplish these goals: Hard work and dedication.  How other characters will be affected: Not much, it’s mostly a thing of his own. 

FAVORITES:

Color: Matías mostly see the world in tints of red with some green mixed between and thus he tend to appreciate his narrow color spectrum as a whole. Music: Honestly, he will play anything by Gloria Estefan and Tina Turner on repeat. Food: Can always go for a good meat stew or an avocado toast Literature: Perfume by Patrick Süskind, but usually tend to read magazines rather than books. Hobbies: Same as with his entertainment.  Plays a musical instrument?: He doesn’t play one fully, but he has definitely tried a few out of curiosity. He also tends to do some crafting with Lillian or listens to Pollux as he rants on about astrology.  Spending habits: Stays within his budget, doesn’t buy thing he doesn’t need just for the sake of having it.  Smokes: Water pipes yes. 12.In what situation was your character the most calm they’ve ever been?

Ohh, I’d have to say when Matías first held/got introduced to his niece Natalie. There was a lovely connection between them from the start and little did he know that she’d be the thing to push him into a family life in later years. As a genderfluid and aromantic biologically born man, starting a family out of the blue isn’t as easy as it should be and he hadn’t thought he’d one day end up with four angels underneath his care. He ended up having a similar experience with Xander later, which is the reason he decided to pick him above the other children. That gut feeling never lies. 

33.In the face of criticism, is your character defensive, self-deprecating, or willing to improve?

It’s either self-deprecating or willing to improve, depending of what type of criticism it is, how it’s delivered and what state of mind he’s in. Matías doesn’t have the best self-esteem even if he acts quite a lot like someone who has his whole life figured out and his OCD/anxiety makes his brain throw a smaller tantrum whenever he isn’t all there and willing to listen. But otherwise he’s open towards having conversations that lead to growth of some kind, as long as it’s shared respectfully and they’ve asked him first if he wants to partake in such a discussion. 

36.How does your character behave around people they dislike?

Matías tend to be a rather calm and collected person and he’s rather not start drama unless the situation calls for it. If the person he dislike gets on his nerves he might throw a verbal punch of put them back in their place with a stern reminder, but I can’t see him make too big of a deal out of it unless pushed in that direction. He’s not one to start fights but he’s sure one to finish them. 

40.How does your character treat people in service jobs?

About as fair as he can. He will tip whenever necessary, compliment them when they do a good job and make sure to keep their time dealing with him as painless as possible.

G: What was their first job?

Matías used to work side by side with his mom his first couple of years after high school ended. He was still dealing with his OCD and therapy at the time and needed something mellow to keep him occupied. He kept an eye on bookings, helped serve costumers or aided during larger jobs and meet-ups. 

I: In general, are they organized or messy?

This was also answered in the massive headcanon post but he’s the organized kind of OCD person, really wants to keep his stuff in place where they’re easy to locate later. Doesn’t mind a bit of a mess though. 

A: Who are their exes? Do they still keep in touch?

He doesn’t have any exes, partly because he’s aromantic and partly because his teenage years were riddled with other matters to attend to. He never fully had the time to explore himself until much later – where he eventually figured he was bisexual and owned no romantic intentions with anyone. 

N: Are they clumsy and/or prone to accidents?

T: How quick are they to cry?

Matías is far from the stoic type of person and can definitely show himself as emotional when the times call for it, but he’s also not someone who grabs for a tissue as soon as something emotional hits him. Growing up, he often kept his feelings and problems to himself as his parents were already busy and constantly on the go. He wants to offer a different type of childhood to the children underneath his care though, especially for Lillian who has issues expressing her own emotions after her father’s passing. You feel a lot better by showing people whenever you’re happy or sad, rather than keeping it all bottled up.

D: What time does their day usual start?

Matías has to be an early bird and tends to be up and about around 6:30am on a weekday and, if he gets to sleep in for Xander, he sleeps until around 8am on the weekend. He prefers to have things ready to go by the time the kids wake up. 

E: Are they the happiest they’ve ever been?  

I sort of already replied to this in the hc sheet down below, but yes I’d say he’s in a pretty good spot in his life right now. He has nothing to complain about and things are moving in the right direction. At least for now. 

V: They’ve been arrested, who is their one phone call to?

Depends on why he’s been arrested, really? If on false accounts or if he simply need some backup, he’d call Antonio since he has police connections already. If for moral support, either Silas or Miguel. 

Y: What movie could they watch over and over again?

Matías isn’t much of a movie lover, but more so the type to mess movies and actors up and give you a bunch of cryptic and vague descriptions whenever he tries to talk about a movie he’s seen. However, he does appreciate movies made in stop motion and tend to give these more time of his day.

Not really, is usually steady on his feet.

M: When’s the last time they talked to their mom?

Matías meets up with his family regularly, they have dinners and his parents babysit his three children whenever Matías is busy so I’d say at least every second to every week. Depends! 

A: Who are their exes? Do they still keep in touch?

He’s aromantic, doesn’t have exes. 

T: How quick are they to cry?

Matías is a sensitive person, yes, but he’s rarely prone to actually cry. It has to deep cut or his anxiety has to play high enough for him to share some tears. 

I: In general, are they organized or messy?

Organized for sure, especially with him having OCD and four children to look after. He does things in a pattern most times, makes it easier if he knows where it all is. 

S: How do they tell someone they’re sorry?

Matías would be direct with his words and move straight to the point. Depending on why he’s apologizing and who they are, it could be anything from a quick discussion to make sure things are fine between them, to him buying them a gift or allowing them to pick a punishment/activity for them to blow off some left over steam and move on. If anything he’d try his best to make sure it never happens again.

26. what are they most passionate about? what could they debate about for hours?

Matías isn’t really known to debate things, he’s more the type of person who wants to have a mutual conversation where both parts walk out of it carrying new information. However, as obvious as it would be for his character, he loves talking about art, especially art made my other colorblind people such as himself. He loves talking about techniques, color theories he can debunk or turn into a challenge using his disability as a core. He’s also super passionate about genders, gender identities and discussions about the nuclear family model. 

3. do they take baths or showers? do they prefer one over the other?

He’s definitely more of a shower type of person. Might get stuck in there for half an hour but who cares? It gives him time to dwell and work on some ideas of his. 

22. do they have a fear they want to conquer, but haven’t yet?

Any fears of his would steam from his OCD and the main one he still carries with him is the fear surrounding his main income -- aka his art. He basically has a ritual he needs to perform every time he starts to paint, as his head otherwise tries to convince him his art his trash, no one is going to want to buy it, which means no money to carry for his family and it’s a big no! He’s been known to trash paintings and start over due to breaking said ritual, feeling as if the canvas is now cursed and he cannot continue. He’s overcome most things in regards to his OCD but that one he just can’t quite shake off, but he’d like to try it.
