I like how it's basically canon now that Haymitch names his geese after his definitely-not-his-kids-but-at-this-point-they-may-as-well-be so allow me to introduce y'all to the flock.

Katniss: the Katniss goose has no self preservation. She is nippy and a prick and refuses to accept Haymitch as a friend. However if Haymitch is in trouble you bet she'll be honking her ass over there to help.

Peeta: the Peeta goose is about as calm as a goose can get. He's the biggest of the flock, and rather quiet, and he likes to herd the group around to safety.

Johanna: the Johanna goose is just anarchy in bird form. No fucks given. Violence is not the answer, it is the question, and the answer is yes. Protect your ankles and groin this goose will steal your children and laugh at you.

Finnick: the Finnick goose is very agreeable and gets along with the rest of the flock. He is one of those very rare geese that actually likes humans, and demands affection from Haymitch. He also screams when he sees Haymitch and runs over to him immediately for some loving. A very demanding but very sweet goose. Will fight the rest of the birds for Haymitch's attention.

Haymitch choosing to spend his retirement raising geese, the most volatile, hateful, unfriendly animal there is- is so funny. I know for a fact Katniss and Peeta hear that man cussing out those birds when they attack him for no good reason. He just takes care of them while waiting for the liquor and I know it’s the stress of those unpredictable demon birds keeping him distracted. I bet he also has one that’s particularly mean and prone to attack and he’s named it Katniss.

I love the difference in Katniss and Peeta asking for love. Peeta is in full "You don't have to, it's ok!!! Please don't even make eye contact with me, no pressure!!" Mode during 'The Hunger Games' meanwhile Katniss for the rest of the series is just like this fucking goblin crawling out of the pits of hell like "No pressure, but I will kill myself if you don't breathe in my direction"

Honestly I think Dean Highbottom has some shit to answer to as well. The mockery, the derision, the outright admittance that he was hoping Coriolanus would fail and the Snow family would continue to suffer. How someone who loathed the Games still treated a young man with cruelty because of the past, because of social divides that would be so easy to tear down. In the end, it wasn’t just Gaul who shaped Snow into the man he became. So bitter and hateful. So incapable of compassion and forgiveness. Just like his father. Just like his Dean.

They set up a dark room in one of their homes’ walk in closets and they learn to process and print on their own.

Peeta loves candids - the gift of an unexpected print from Peeta Mellark is a coveted honor.

Peeta takes up photography after the war, when cameras make their way across the districts to ordinary people again. He loves taking pictures, of anything and everything especially his wife because he can save them forever and hold onto them as a physical reassurance of his memories. On bad days he uses them to remember what’s real and what’s not.

Also this is canon, Peeta told me this himself. I didn’t make the rules, I’m just enforcing them.

The Hunger Games epilogue is emotional in so many ways that I forgot so many details until I re-read the series this week. In the book of memories that Katniss makes, among all her and Peeta's memories of the games and the victors and district 12, Haymitch asks her to add every single tribute he mentored and lost ever since he won his own games. Earlier in Mockingjay, Katniss tells him something along the line of "you closed yourself off to everyone until Peeta and I came into the picture" and he neither confirmed nor denied. And while it is obvious that he loves Peeta and Katniss like his own kids, this one line in the epilogue tells me he didn't close himself off as much as he wanted to. He remembered all 46 children the Capitol put under his care only to witness them horribly die. Most of them were from the Seam, just like he was. All of them had families waiting for them, all of them wanted to survive. He remembered them and asked Katniss to write their stories and described them so Peeta would draw them, so that even if history books don't deem them important enough to remember, someone will.

Also while Everlark get married and have kids, he raises geese in his backyard. I think that's also important.
