Haylijah Whump Ficlet Based on the prompt: "I wish I would have never given you a chance" Thank you @originalbarbieklaus for sending it in!
Warning: physical whump
---- "I wish I would have never given you a chance."
Elijah chuckles weakly through gritted teeth.
"Why?" he rasps. His hand is clenched in hers, and a continuous tremor runs through his arm.
"Well first of all," Hayley starts, proud of her steady voice, "you are a terrible cook."
Keep him awake, Freya had hissed when they had finally found Elijah after days of searching. She, Rebekah and Klaus are still frantically hunting the remaining magicians, but as the minutes tick away, it is harder and harder to keep Elijah talking.
Elijah's fingers tighten around hers as he struggles against another wave of pain. Light blue veins have spread out from the silver rod embedded in his side, pulsing sickly in the darkness, and despite knowing better, Hayley wishes nothing more than to rip the rod out.
"And," she continues when the wave has passed, "you snore."
Elijah sluggishly shakes his head.
"I d'not," he mumbles. A white sheen shimmers over his half closed eyes.
"You do snore," Hayley insists firmly. "Ask Klaus."
"No, he's a li-"
The rod flares up in a bright, silver light. It gathers at the tip before crashing into Elijah's body. With a choked scream, Elijah buckles to get away, but the rod pins him firmly into place.
"Elijah? Focus on me!"
Heart pounding in her chest, Hayley reaches out to Elijah's writhing form. His fingers snap desperately around her wrist, applying enough force to crush her bones, but Hayley continues to murmur in his ear.
"Stay with me. Stay with me."
Elijah shudders, and they cling together, riding wave after wave, until finally the light disappears as suddenly as it came. Immediately, Elijah goes limp in her arms.
"Elijah? Elijah!"
There is no response. Freya's warning fresh in her memory, Hayley desperately reaches out, connecting her mind to his. She almost cries in relief when his eyes fly open.
"Hayley?" he whispers hoarsely as he stares up at her.
Hayley grits her teeth.
"Don't you ever do that again," she snaps.
She clenches her jaw as tears well up in her eyes, her breathing shallow.
"I really never should have given you a chance," she grits out, tears spilling over. "Now I can't loose you."
With what seems to be his last strength, Elijah reaches up to run his thumb over her cheeks, expression infinitely understanding. Hayley presses a wet kiss against his palm, burning the sight and smell and taste of him into her memory. She would never be able to let him go.
Freya, Klaus and Rebekah arrive not much later, the wayward magicians in tow. With enough encouragement from the Mikaelsons, they are willing to help remove the rod. Both Rebekah and Klaus have to hold Elijah down for Freya to finish the spell, and he is completely unconscious by the time she is done. But when Freya grins up at Hayley, exhausted but triumphant, the world shifts the right way up again.
Later that week, Hayley finds Elijah asleep, curled up between Klaus and Rebekah, basking in their warmth. A smile spreads out across her face, and she softly closes the door behind her, careful not to wake them.
They won't soon forget what had happened, and the remnants of the magicians' cult needed to be eliminated. But for now, all is again as it should be.

Haylijah Whump Ficlet Based on the prompt: “Take me instead” Thank you @thedumpster-fire ! I hope you enjoy it :D
Find the other ficlet here: stay awake with me (AO3)
--- "Why don't you take me instead?"
Relief and fear clash inside Hayley at the sound of Elijah's voice. Her captor - a young, blond man- clenches his fingers around the lever which connects the cage with the mainframe.
"Don't come closer!" he snaps frantically. "If you do so, she dies!"
A responding chuckle echoes off the walls of the makeshift laboratory, and Elijah saunters into the white, ghastly light. He glances at the lever.
"Yes, she probably will," he muses with a tilt of his head. "But your experiment will die with it."
Hayley holds herself ready, a new burst of energy pushing away the effects of the wolf bane in her system. She tries to get Elijah's attention, but he ignores her, focusing instead on her captor.
"Doctor Rochester, is it? I have to say, your experiments have caused quite a stir among many learned men."
Rochester's lips twitch.
"Have they?"
Lazily, Elijah circles closer to the machine, deftly stepping over the numerous cables curled on the floor.
"They have. But of course, with their petty minds, they could not possibly comprehend what you try to accomplish here."
He halts. Just in front of him shimmers a barely visible force field, held up by a strange combination of technology and magic.
"But I can help you."
For the first time, his gaze flickers to Hayley.
"That is, if you rid yourself of this hybrid filth."
Hayley flinches. Even though she knows it is an act - it must be an act - she can't help but cower down under the force of his cold stare.
"What do you mean?" Rochester squeals, head swirling from Elijah to Hayley and back again. He is dancing on his spot, his caution warring with his desire for an ally.
"Her bloodline is tainted," Elijah continues. "Use her, and your experiment will almost certainly fail. And why should you, when you have me?"
Rochester laughs nervously.
"This is a trick. You must think I am stupid!"
"On the contrary. You are the smartest person in this room. But you need a pure source of energy. One that cannot die."
Black veins dance below Elijah's eyes.
"And I am truly immortal."
Electricity cracks when he touches the force field. Hayley had seen it kill a normal vampire, but Elijah just clenches his hand into a fist.
Rochester gapes at him. He is shaking, from excitement or fear Hayley can't tell. Slowly, his hand slips from the lever, and he stumbles closer, like a child fixated on candy. Like a siren, Elijah spins a tale about ancient societies and hidden knowledge, only available for a select few. He sounds perfectly reasonable. Perfectly understandable. In a brief moment, Hayley sees him like their enemies must see him. An ethereal creature, beyond human, luring them to their deaths.
When the force field comes down with a crash, Elijah snaps his fangs in Rochester's neck. Before the body has crumbled to the ground, he is kneeling in front the cage, his hands roaming over the iron bars.
"Hayley, are you alright?"
His cold stare has been replaced by frantic concern, and Hayley nods mutely, her exhausted mind struggling to catch up. As soon as the bars give way under his strength, he pulls her free from the wreckage. Hayley buries her nose in Elijah's shoulder, shivering as he traces soothing circles over her back.
In a daze, she hears Klaus arrive. He and Elijah argue softly, until Elijah pulls her upright.
"Come on," he says gently, "I'll take you home. Niklaus will take care of the rest."
Too tired to argue, Hayley leans heavily into his side as he leads her to the car. To her surprise, it is still light outside, and she takes in a grateful breath of fresh air. Elijah stops when they reach the car.
"Hayley, what I said..." he starts, but she cuts him off.
"I know," she rasps, her throat raw from disuse.
He shakes his head in protest, so she kisses him instead, swallowing his words. Hunger and desire kindle inside her, and she sneaks her hands under his jacket, unable to stop a rumble in her throat.
"Go ahead," Elijah encourages hoarsely.
Hayley makes a quick cut on his throat with her nail and presses her lips against the wound. She sucks deeply, relishing in the soft gasp coming from his mouth and the clench of his arms around her.
When she finally pulls away, she feels like she is floating. She is barely aware of Elijah lifting her up and placing her in the car, and when she comes to they are half way back to New Orleans. At his fond, reassuring smile, she laces her fingers through his before closing her eyes again, shifting to make herself more comfortable.
The next time she woke would be to the sight of her daughter.
And then she would take a long, well deserved bath.

Haylijah Whump Ficlet Based on the prompt: “Run, and don't look back” Thank you again @thedumpster-fire !
Find the other two ficlets here: stay awake with me (AO3) and Safe and Sound (AO3)
So, this became a TO Wild West/Cowboy AU... Hee Haw!
-- The heavy boots of the soldiers pound on the wooden floor as they enter the inn. Hayley curses softly under her breath. The rough voice of their commander drifts up through the ceiling, shouting an order at the innkeeper. While they could leave through the window in the back, the square with their horses is swarming with soldiers.
"You know where the camp is?" Elijah asks urgently. Hayley frowns, but nods as he lifts the curtain and glances outside.
"Good. Find my brother. He will take care of you."
Elijah inspects his two revolvers with practiced ease and places one back in the holster on his hip.
"Elijah," Hayley says slowly, trailing him as he walks back into the room, "what are you doing?"
Elijah sighs. For the first time since the battalion of soldiers had arrived in town, he stops to pay her full attention. Gently, he places a hand on her cheek. His dark eyes flicker over her face, as if he is burning it into his memory.
"Run, Hayley," he says roughly. "And don't look back."
"Elijah-" Hayley warns, but then his lips are on hers, cutting her off. She leans into him, almost tasting the desperation. When he pulls away, his fingers ghosts over her lower belly and the small life that grows inside it. Elijah places his priced revolver in her hand.
"Please," he whispers.
She has no choice. She can get away. The soldiers are not looking for her. Swallowing away her tears, she presses another quick kiss on his lips.
"We'll come for you."
Abruptly, not giving herself a chance to hesitate, she throws their bag over her shoulder and climbs out of the window. She reaches the horses without a problem, and climbs up into the saddle. A group of soldiers is guarding the exit of the town, but all they see is a farm boy searching for his luck in the West. She tips her hat at them, heart racing even as they let her pass.
She is about a hundred meters out of town when a revolver shot echoes over the land.
---
"They will execute him next month."
Bile rises in Hayley's throat as Marcel sinks down on the nearest stump. With a shaking hand, Rebekah offers him some water, which he gratefully gulps down, while Klaus curses under his breath and starts pacing.
Hayley clenches her jaw, sending a glare towards Elijah's brother. She and Elijah had broken off their quiet farm life only because Klaus called for aid. If it weren't for him, and his-
She swallows and takes a deep breath, forcing the thoughts away. Arguing would only escalate the situation. And given the haunted look on Klaus' face, he must already be aware of that fact.
"It is a trap," Klaus growls. "They know I will come for him."
"And the town will be well guarded," Marcel adds with a shake of his head. "Everyone will want to witness the death of one of the infamous Mikaelson brothers."
Klaus opens his mouth to reply, but halts with a frown, deep in thought. Hayley glances at Marcel, who shrugs. The silence stretches, and just before Hayley has had enough, a grin splits Klaus' face.
"That idiot," he murmurs.
"Care to share with the group?" Marcel drawls, leaning back.
Klaus spins around to face them.
"As you are well aware, for months now, those pesky soldiers have bested us. They have cut of our supplies, attacked our allies, all with no discernible pattern."
Klaus' gaze lands on Hayley.
"By allowing himself to get captured, my brother has forced them all to gather in one place."
He smiles, and Hayley finally understands why he is known as the Demon.
"All we have to do is pick them off one by one."
---
Hayley is not allowed to be part of the preparations. She protests, but Klaus cuts her off.
"What if we rescue Elijah, only for him to find you dead?"
So Hayley relents, albeit reluctantly. When the group of bandits finally set off, one week before the execution, she stares at the cloud of dust they leave in their wake until it too has disappeared. The camp has gone awfully quiet, and all she can do is pace and sit at the fire, her hand on her belly.
It takes them ten days to return. Hayley is alerted by one of the look out kids, and without hesitation, she grabs her horse and rushes out to meet them, almost sick with fear and anticipation.
Klaus is riding at the head of the column and calls for a halt as he notices her approach. In the center of the group is a small horse drawn wagon.
"Go ahead," Klaus rasps. There are dark circles beneath his eyes, but his lips are curled up in a grin.
The sight of Elijah, far too thin, with unkept hair and covered in dirt, is the most beautiful thing Hayley has ever seen.
Their child is born half a year later. When it is over, Hayley leans against Elijah's shoulder, completely exhausted but intensely happy. Her small baby rests in her arms, draped in clean linen.
Elijah presses a kiss against her temple. He is still recovering from the torture they put him through, but he is growing stronger every day.
"I love you," he whispers. Hayley smiles and laces her fingers in his.
"I love you too," she murmurs, before she lets herself drift away.

rules: choose your favorite works you created in the past year and link them below to reflect on the things you put into the world in 2020. tag as many writers/artists as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love
Thank you @evanescentrainbow and @kylermalloy for tagging me!
So I've realized I've posted 41 TO stories, 1 Lucifer story and one A:TLA story in 2020... It's fun to see the growth in both length, content and writing style. Thanks again to anyone who sent in prompts! It helps immensely to get the creative juices flowing :D
I'll make it a top 10, in order of publishing:
Aftermath My first foray into Klelijah fic, and it is still very dear to my heart. I had to overcome some insecurities with this one, but I'm very happy I did it any way. I love how it turned out.
In Another Life I loved exploring the different sides of known characters, keeping them in character while also having them change because the events changed. And Elijah naming his son Niklaus made me tear up a little
The Howling This one was actually my first planned multi chapter fic, so I learned a lot from writing it. And I also learned to write more self indulgent stuff... Note to self: write more whump/hurt/comfort.
Hope's School Adventure I adore this fic. It came to me in bits and pieces, and then suddenly I thought: I should write this down, and I wrote the whole thing in one setting. Outsider POV on this crazy family is still a favourite of mine, as well as hilarious misunderstandings. Also writing the thought process of a 7-year-old was interesting!
When It's All Over I've got to add a Haylijah fic as well. Hayley is a great character, but a lot of her struggles are not shown on the show, so I want to do that. And I love me some Elijah!whump and hurt/comfort. NOTE TO SELF:write more whump/hurt/comfort
I'm gonna love you (like I'm gonna lose you) First time writing smut and it's incest! My 15 year old self is gawking at me lol. "I'll never get incest" she thought. Well, boundaries crossed and all that... Compared to this, Aftermath was very tame, but I love both fics equally. This one also recently hit 100 kudo's on AO3 :D :D Thank you all!
The Monster that Howls and Weeps So fanfic is a wonderful playground to try out new things and this fic proves that. Why not write a fairytale klelijah fic? It was especially fun to use the fairy tale trope writing style, with repeating patterns, not using names, etc..
Hope's and Klaus' Painting Adventure Little Hope is so adorable. And throwing in little tidbits like Elijah and Hayley being the princesses in need of rescue made me laugh while writing it
Old Wounds A shorter piece, but any Finn x Freya x Elijah interaction is so fascinating to me. Elijah's intense dislike for Finn is great to write, because normally he is more of the mediator during fights.
The Originals: The Hunger Games It's still ongoing but I wanted to mention it nonetheless. This one is huge for my 1000 word fics standards, and I hope I'll be able to get it to where I want it to go. It really teaches me plotting more than any of the other fics.
I’ll tag @originalbarbieklaus and any one else who wants to do this and hasn’t been tagged yet!
