The first wedding chapel in Las Vegas opened September 29, 1933.
There are no existing photo of the business simply known as "The Wedding Chapel." It was here 513 South 5th (Las Vegas Blvd), later known in the 40s as Lucky Wedding Chapel. It was a 24-hour service from the start.
In the late 20s California and other states adopted "Gin marriage laws" which established waiting period for marriages aimed at preventing marrying while drunk. Nevada's no-wait marriages and the boom in automobile travel turned Las Vegas a marriage destination. City Hall was the logical choice. The Wedding Chapel offered convenience.
“New Super Service To ‘Tie the Knot’ – Happy young couples contemplating marriage in Las Vegas need no longer worry about the many and varied details … J.D. Foster has opened a ‘wedding chapel’ at his office, 513 South Fifth street and he not only agrees to shoulder all responsibilities but will supply witnesses for the occasion if they are desired.” - Review Journal, 9/29/1933
Other chapels to open in the 30s included Gay Wedding Chapel, Potthoff Chapel, Hitching Post, and McKee's circa ‘39 which is still open today as Graceland.
In later years, Wee Kirk O' The Heather claimed to be the “original” and oldest chapel in Las Vegas, a claim that was went unchecked at the time the chapel was demolished in 2020.

Weddings 101 with Dieter Bravo
Chapter one: Transportation? I'll Cover it
Dieter Bravo x plus size OFC (Maya)
Fanfiction 18+ (not this chapter but later chapters will be)
Main Masterlist / Dieter Bravo Masterlist / Weddings 101 with Dieter / AO3 Link
Summary: Maya is just trying to be a good big sister. Yet, even the planes are conspiring against her. She encounters Dieter who who likes that sass and that ass. No candy was harmed in the writing of this chapter.
Warnings: Cursing, angst, self-doubt, bad jokes, Dieter being soft and cute, card games, body insecurities, brief mentions of drug use and alcohol, etc. (none too serious, that’s for later)
Notes: I've wanted to write Dieter for awhile and I'm glad that I was able to get a rough draft together, outline and now part one. I think it will be three or four parts depending on where I can take the story. I swear I did go over it several times while editing, but I was laughing at my own jokes, so there may still be some typos. 🤔
“So, what you're saying is that even though I have paid three months in advance and have my confirmation code right here both in my phone and printed I don't have my seat on my flight?!” A woman stood with both hands on the counter, visibly frustrated but not yelling.
“Yes, yes ma'am that, that is what I'm saying I again I'm so sorry just so sorry.” The young man at the service counter apologized again. It’s all he could do.
“I mean I appreciate that you're sorry but it's not gonna get me on the flight. I need to be on the flight so that I can be at my brother's wedding. Is there another flight going out later today?” The woman asked, wiping her brow. She had worn a sweatshirt and leggings because it was supposed to be cold in the airport and on the plane. The young man tapped a few keys on his computer and looked up, his eyes wide.
“There is ma'am, but the flights aren’t going out until like, 10 tonight.” He broke the news. The woman groaned.
“Sir you you realize it's it's eight in the morning. How… how can there not be any more flights to Hawaii of all places until ten tonight?!” She questioned, that time she did yell. She felt it was ludicrous, the entire situation.
“Well ma'am it's it's based on availability and, and, and consumer interest and it looks like most people were were interested in morning flights. No one was really booking any of the afternoon flights so we cancelled those and just you know some people wanted the red eye flights. I mean we will give you vouchers for the price of your flight and an extra $250 for future flights with our airline. Because I feel like that that's exactly this time…” All she heard was that she wasn’t going to be in Hawaii by later today. Which meant she wouldn’t check in, then have to find another hotel, maybe it would be near the wedding venue if they even had any availability ….all horrible.
Maya rubbed her temples in defeat because she had planned that she was going to fly out in the morning from San Francisco where she was now and then fly the rest of the way to Hawaii. She was now stuck in San Francisco with no way to get to Hawaii on time to participate in her brother's weeklong wedding to albeit his lovely wife but fucking destination weddings man. The woman stepped away from the counter, her gray slip-on sneakers squeaking on the cool tile floor.
“Hey what's cooking good looking, you need a flight out?” A man in a gray robe, sunglasses inside an airport for some reason, a Gray T-shirt, striped Gray and brown pajama pants maybe and grey Crocs. He appeared to be holding a goat. He sauntered up to the service desk alongside Maya and leaned on it casually. The man had been keeping track of the exchange, it was much more entertaining than the random loud kids running around and all the stretched-out pants that said juicy and they were not in fact juicy. Instead, he found the loud woman to be much more succulent.
“I mean I do, but he said there's no more flights out. What? Are you going to give me your seat because I got a wide ass.” Mya put her hands on her large hips, she leaned forward on her right foot and her thigh jiggled. The man in the robe took notice of her hips. They looked like they’d swallow his fingers when he held onto them, he would like to know for sure.
The man laughed and replied, “No. I got a private jet and honestly, I'm tired of looking at just my assistant because he tells me all kinds of stuff I can't do or shouldn't be doing.” He pointed at a nervous young man who held a briefcase and a duffle bag. “You wanna ride with me Miss Toblerone? You seem fun.”
Perplexed, Maya considered both the man's appearance and the offer. He seemed like he had just rolled out of bed, was holding a goat but also had this really fluffy hair. Honestly, it just made her wanna smack his head and like play with his downy mop a little bit. The man had this little mischievous looking grin that was surrounded by a little mustache and facial situation going. It could be that she was tired from getting up at 3:00 in the morning to make sure she was at the airport packing up her crap and making sure that it was indeed the two carry-ons and one personal bag per the airline. It could have also been the horrendous drive over that mostly was sitting in traffic for a ride that maybe should have taken 15 minutes but took an hour and a half. She had to factor the time in and also finding which gate after security, which security was its own monster in and of itself so at this point a pajama clad stranger with fluffy hair sexy grin and a goat was looking real good right now.
“Fuck it let's go, my name's Maya. I not particularly a fan of Toblerone though, they’re decadent. I guess it’s good to have one everyone once in awhile.” She replied to him and reached her hand out, he took one hand off the goat and shook it then held on to it a little too long. The fluffy man kissed it and trailed his lips up her wrist which the woman shivered a bit because it's like who who does that out outside of Bridgeton? Her new traveling partner said his name was Dieter Bravo which sounded familiar, but she couldn't quite place it. Just like she couldn't quite place him, she felt like she would remember if she saw any man looking like this, but she'd worry about that later right? Now she just really needed to get on a flight from San Francisco to Hawaii, so she gathered up her purse, her backpack and suitcase follow Dieter, but he stopped her and told his assistant to take her backpack and bag from her. Bravo then questioned why she had so few bags, Maya told him that she didn't want to pay the carry-on fees because it the price of the flight out here was outrageous already in addition to the hotel. Dieter asked why she was going to all the trouble, she told him it was for her youngest brother’s wedding.
“I think you can be more indulgent then that Toblerone. Especially for a wedding.” The actor took her hand and walked with her while the assistant got another person to help with all the bags, the majority were Dieter’s.
Dieter said once they got to Hawaii, he would look around for some more clothes for her. Maya laughed and said he's probably going to have to look hard for that stuff because she didn’t know if any of those designer stores there would have her size. Likely not, those mannequins are probably one of her thighs. Dieter grinned and told her that it was alright, there’s more to work with and to use. He then cleared his throat and said that he meant as far as fashion choices.
Maya had a feeling she knew what he meant. She had an extra bounce in her step at the thought giggled. She may consider it after they’re off the jet and they can find some privacy. She wasn’t into people watching her have sex.
Once at the jet they were greeted with two stewardesses in suspiciously short skirts, but the woman figured that's probably what Dieter or whoever Dieter’s people were had paid. Honestly this was a completely free flight, so it didn’t matter how she felt about anything. Besides, how much were those stewardesses getting paid? Could it be a part time job maybe, it’s something to look into. The pair were served with sushi which was actually pretty lovely, she hadn't had California rolls in quite some time. Bravo offered her two of his, he enjoyed watching her put them in her mouth. He did offer some wine but she said she's not really into wine.
“We got a bartender over here tell him what you want.”
So Maya told the mixologist to make her some lemon drops which was basically lemon, lime, and vodka with a little bit of sugar added in it. Dieter said that he hadn't had those for quite a while so they toasted and took off toward their destination. It was when they were in midair, when Dieter took out a pack of cards and shuffle them saying that they were going to play poker.
“My dear sweet man, I'mma level with you. I don't know a thing about poker. The only card games I've played are go fish and Uno.” Maya chuckled as she continued to sip, the alcohol was making her slur already and her eyes were a tad glassy.
Dieter’s eyes widened.
“I haven’t played Uno for years! Finally, someone else who wants to play uno!”
He hopped up out of his seat which the captain had not turned off the seat belt sign, so he bobbed and weaved a little bit and went to somewhere in the back of the plane. Maya couldn't quite see where he went, the fluffy man grabbed little Uno box and Maya cautioned him by saying you know we should wait until the seat belt sign goes off because she wasn’t trying to bob and weave as well on the plane. After about thirty minutes, the sign did go off and then they were free to sit across from each other at a little table that was built into the jet. In setting up for the Uno game, the two flight attendants couldn't be bothered because they're just they're here to look hot, not for weird games. The young assistant was just so happy that Dieter had someone else to focus on, he was taking a nap because that man looked stressed, he was probably going to have gray hairs before he turned thirty.
“Toblerone, we got to make this game interesting though.” Dieter stated as he removed his robe and shuffled the card. “I’m gonna take this seriously.” His sunglasses came off next, serious indeed.
Maya scoffed, finishing off her drink and leaned forward. Removing her sweatshirt, she revealed she had on a pale pink t-shirt that read ‘Live loud and love long.’ She rested her elbows on her knees while Bravo delt the cards, she noted his triangle tattoo on his forearm and wondered how long it took to fill that in. She just had scars and stretch marks. Dieter’s eyes floated to her shirt and licked his lips. He found himself curious about the second part of that shirt.
“So, it's not just enough to be playing Uno in a private jet? We have to have stakes too? And my name’s Maya, not Toblerone. Still not a bad nickname though.” The plush woman picked up her cards and scanned them, not a bad hand, but not great either. “How often are you playing games with stakes in the air, lovely man?” She was trying to find a nickname for him as well, none sounded cool though. Dieter could have cared less, he soaked up any name she was willing to call him. Her voice sounded like smooth caramel to him. Wait, he had an idea.
“Yeah, I haven't really done it with anybody else for like a while.” He paused. Was he just talking about the cards? His assistant was normally troubled by Dieter’s lack of routine, but kept his schedule packed, which left little time for extracurriculars he was used to. The pregnant pause caused Maya’s head to tilt with her lips pursed. “No, no, no, no. Scratch that. I do it all the time. Cards all over the place. On the walls, Several packs at a time. All the packs.” The croc clad man stuttered as he attempted to clarify what he meant, which just solidified what he said further. He’d won awards for his acting, yet his was doing a piss poor job right now. “If I win,” Dieter explained as he picked up his cards and looked at them, once of his hands held his chin, presumably deep in thought. He was but he felt like he embarrassed himself. There was no way she was going to agree to meet with him after they left the plane. “I get to keep calling you Kit Kat, Milky Way or Toblerone and you have dinner with me.”
Maya just stared at him smiling. “Dinner? I honestly thought you were going to mention cards on the ceiling and on the beach.” She waved her hand, their banter was one thing, but dinner? This man did not want dinner. He just wanted a fun night because his assistant has been cockblocking him. She wasn’t opposed, but she didn’t want to be a fun fat fuck for him either. It wouldn’t be the sex that would be bad, though it could be, she just didn’t want to wake up with that shame again or alone in bed as she had too often before. Her smile dimmed. “I’ll agree to the nickname game but not dinner. We ate here on the plane.” Her eyes focused on his hands, then lips, Maya couldn’t directly at his face. It was bad enough she was considering it.
Bravo noticed her demeanor change. The card talk had been too much. It’s not like he hadn’t thought of getting her in bed or wherever she would agree since seeing her at the airport. He didn’t want her to feel bad about it nor obligated. Maya had been fun to talk to, he hadn’t felt the need to snort or shoot anything yet. He wanted to know why, he thought dinner might help with that.
“What we ate wasn’t a full meal. I’m still hungry.” He played his first card, “I want dinner with you because I like you, Maya. For more than getting a quick thrill, plus if I don’t see you later, I won’t be able to use any of your nicknames.” Dieter flicked his chin toward her, indicating her move.
Smooth bastard. “Fine but if I win, I get to call you Sugar lips, soufflé or pretty boy.” Maya sucked her teeth and drew a card from the pile, she didn’t have the right color or number. She started to tap her foot nervously, this was dangerous. He was cunning, deceptively so. She hated that she was enjoying their wordplay.
“Wait the first one I get but why the second one? And why pretty boy? You called me man earlier Toblerone?” He was able to put down two more cards. Maya cursed under her breath and was able to be rid of one card on her turn.
“We’ll see how this game goes and that will tell me if I call you a man or a boy Dieter.”
Maya lost uno and Dieter decided he would keep Toblerone and Milky Way. He did tell her that she could call him Sugar Lips. He liked that one. Maya drank a second lemon drop as did Dieter. Now dinner was happening off this plane. He danced with his third drink, snaking his hips in a circle to music only he could hear. After polishing it off, he grabbed Maya’s hands and pulled her up to dance as well.
“What song are thinking of Sugar Lips? I can’t tell by your dancing.” The man’s laugh was infectious, and Maya started cackling as well. They spun around as once of his hands ran down to her side, grabbing a handful of her hip. He guided her from side to side, slowing down. His lips kissed the back of the hand he still held in his.
“No particular song. I just felt like dancing. I get to have dinner with you, my Toblerone. I’m excited.” Dieter answered, he kissed her jaw and met her eyes. His hand on her hip loosened as he started to circle his palm over her hip and part of her ass. “You’re soft Maya. Wanna find out what makes you that way. I feel like I need to, you know?” Her breath hitched with each of his touches, her resistance fading with each movement they took together. Would she make it to dinner?
Next: Chapter 2

Unforgettable Romance: Exploring the Best Couple Tour Packages to Jamaica and Hawaii
Whether you're newlyweds looking for a dreamy honeymoon or a couple celebrating a special anniversary, Jamaica and Hawaii offer some of the world's most romantic couple tour packages and all inclusive travel packages. With stunning natural scenery, luxurious resorts, exciting activities, and rich culture, these two gorgeous island destinations promise to bring you closer together and create lifelong memories. In this blog, we'll highlight some of the best deals and trip ideas for couples wanting to get away to Jamaica or Hawaii.
Jamaica: Reggae Rhythms and Tropical Tranquility
Known for its laidback vibes, flavorful jerk cuisine, and sandy stretches of beach, Jamaica has long been a favorite tropical locale for enamored duos. Today, countless couple tour packages to Jamaica with resorts cater to lovebirds with amenities like overwater bungalows, private beach dinners, couple massages, and sunset catamaran cruises. Whether you're looking for an active, adventurous trip or pure relaxation, Jamaica delivers.
Some top trip ideas and package deals for couples include:
Negril beachfront all inclusive hotels with benefits such as Champagne breakfasts in bed and cocktail mixing classes held outside while breathing in the fresh ocean air as a hint for the spa treatments for two. Generally, the greater community in the area offers free wedding packages and vow renewals to veterans and their spouses.
Luxurious vacations of the mountains of Ocho Rios, where one can have private infinity pools, secluded villas, and scenic attractions like Dunn's River Falls, are not only fun but also a memorable experience. As with a spa treatment and a personal yoga class, completing the zen vibe.
Jamaica follows wellness trends having concrete, nature, yoga, and clean eating retreats. All of them center around the two main partners either enjoying a meditative experience together or going through art therapy, counseling services, and communication games.
Guests taking a well-rounded day hike will have the choice of the romantic coffee plantation inn or bungalows as a stay. Chose to get immersed more in rum, coffee tasting and authentic Land Rover adventure tours.
Hawaii: The Epitome of American Paradise
With its postcard-worthy beaches, volcanic peaks, luxe resorts, and vibrant aloha culture, Hawaii sets the gold standard for American tropical getaways. Luckily for lovebirds, Hawaii also offers endless couple tour packages catering to every interest, budget, and personality - from surfers to honeymooners.
Top Hawaii couple trip ideas include:
A classic multi-island honeymoon package to Hawaii, hitting highlights like Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, the Road to Hana, Volcano National Park, and the island of Kauai. Most offer newlywed extras like champagne, massages, and private excursions.
Luxury wellness retreats on the peaceful island of Lanai, with health-focused amenities like guided meditation, yoga by the sea, spa treatments for two, and farm-to-table dining. Reconnect with nature and each other as you unplug completely.
Beachfront condo rentals on Maui with full kitchens and amenities for independent couples wanting a home base for exploring the island's treasures like Haleakala, the Road to Hana, and snorkeling Molokini crater.
A surf camp getaway on Oahu's famed North Shore, where you'll take lessons together, enjoy sunsets by the sea, and soak up the vibrant surf culture alongside world-class waves and beaches.
Tips for Booking the Ultimate Couple's Getaway
The one venom is the one that can spell the success of a couple's romantic getaway or the one poison that can break it. Here are some tips for picking the perfect escape:
It is wise to know what your must-haves and deal breakers are from the beginning - If seeing something new and exciting is what you want or you prefer a relaxed atmosphere. Do you care more about whether you stay in cozy little boutique hotels or big splashy resorts? This will allow you to limit your choices to breeds compatible with your circumstances.
You have an easy tool on hand, comparison shopping! - Thus, don’t book the first package you see. Use websites like TripAdvisor to review deals and discover special offers. From learner to learner: Engaging with fellow language learners through platforms such as community chat groups, online forums, or language exchange apps can not only provide emotional support but also practical feedback and motivation.
One very important element to consider when comparing package pricing is airfare and transportation costs.
Be sure to get into the fine prints into exactly what they're offering - some deals may sound like they are giving so much that they are malicious and often don't include taxes, fees, tips or certain activities.
Travel insurance would be a good idea, even for more peace of mind, especially during the storm.
Go for containment systems that offer adaptation with optional variations in case the initial plan does not work.
Whether you select beachside or retreat in the middle of the forest, Jamaica and Hawaii will take your relationship to the next level and bring the two of you closer. As your relationship develops, the memories and experiences are certain to last a lifetime! Instead of staying at home, choose our vacation journeys to extraordinary places and escape the ordinary now. Immediately book your couple's vacation of a lifetime!

If the year consisted of only one season, which would you choose?
Summer because long days, but not 30°C, please.
You've had sex within these past 10 days haven't you?
Sadly, I have to say yet.
You have to get a piercing, what do you get?
Another ear piercing.
You have to get a tattoo, where and what do you get?
A triangle in ace colours, place is yet to be decided.
What are you wearing?
Black cargo pants, black t-shirt, and all my pracelets and my wedding ring.
Do you miss anyone?
Yeah, my parents.
When is the last time someone of the opposite sex gave you a hug?
Last time I was at work, Jasmine gave me one and she said she was happy to see me.
Plans for tomorrow?
Going to the sea again. And looking through online shops just because.
Is anything wrong?
Not at the moment.

Sleeping.
What were you doing 2 hours ago?

Of what? Jealousy is unfamiliar to me.
What are you doing today?
Travelling around the country and cleaning the house.
What jewelry are you currently wearing?
My wedding ring and all my piercings, except one in my right ear.
Could you go the rest of your life without smoking a cigarette?
I've never even tried, so what is that question about.
Have you ever in any way, been betrayed by someone you trust?
Yeah, but there's too much to talk about and I'd rather not.
How late did you stay up last night and why?
Until 21:30 because yes.
Are you picky about who you give your number to?
Yup. Only business contacts and good friends.
What do you prefer: McDonalds or Burger King?

Day 18: Honeymoon
⚠️Warnings⚠️: Somewhat public sex, heights, bent over, hair pulling, and cussing Y/N's POV
Our wedding was beautiful, Ethan looked perfect, we became husband and wife, and the reception was loads of fun, and I couldn't ask for anything more. But now, Ethan and I are in Hawaii, by ourselves and spending quality time together as husband and wife. We have been sight seeing, going to the beach, and even swam with dolphins, but we decided that today we were just going to relax and stay in our hotel room, maybe take an adventure to the pool but that's about it.
Ethan ordered food service and we are now just waiting for it, sitting on our tenth floor balcony and watching the beach, and taking in the beautiful scenery. When I felt Ethan's hand grab mine a smile drew across my face, he just is so affectionate and I love it.
"It's truly beautiful out here" I said to him, still staring off the balcony.
"It really is" Ethan responded before he dragged his hand down to my thigh, grabbing the skin that my shorts didn't cover. "I love when you wear these" he said as he looked down at my small shorts on my legs, I laughed and questioned him, he responded with, "because you leave nothing to my imagination, I know exactly what's under here" he said before putting his finger under the hem of my shorts.
I smirked and he continued with his hand, rubbing my thigh, touching the sensitive inner parts and digging his nails into the skin. "Ethan, don't start something you can't finish" I warned and he just turned his head to me, he spoke "I can only guarantee I can make you finish" in a low a tone, I smirked even more and brought our lips together.
I separated only to sit on his lap then to bring our lips back together, Ethan brought his hands to my ass, grabbing each cheek and digging his nails into my shorts. I thrusted my hips against his hoping to create just a little friction, Ethan let out a groan as I pushed myself against his cock.
"Stand up" Ethan said, I followed his order, standing and awkwardly waiting for his next command. Ethan also stood up, grabbing my waist and pulling me against him. He ghosted his lips over mine, teasing me and pressing his fingertips into my skin.
"I could take you right here, push you against the railing and just fuck you" Ethan groaned, I took this as my moment to connect our mouth. Our lips danced together as our bodies tried to get as close as they could.
He brought his hands to my shorts once again, moving to the zipper and button and undoing them, pulling the shorts down after. Leaving me in only my underwear and shirt on our balcony, Ethan smiled and grabbed my hips, digging his dull nails into my skin, "you look so pretty" he said before moving his hands to his own pants, the colorful shorts soon falling to the floor.
"Turn around, love" Ethan said, guiding me to the handrail and bending me slightly over it. "I don't know, Eth, isn't this a little dangerous?" I worried, "isn't that what you want" Ethan responded before sending a light slap my ass.
He pulled himself out from his boxers and I could hear his sigh as he pumped his member a few times before grabbing my panties and pulling them down.
"Are you ready?" Ethan said as he slightly bent over me, I nodded but clearly that wasn't enough. He sent another smack to my ass, which is when I knew I needed to say it in words, "yes, please" I whimpered. "Good girl" he praised before leading his cock inside me, I moaned and grabbed the railing even harder.
Ethan rocked himself inside me, grabbing my hips and staring down. When I started to get his rhythm, I pushed my hips back towards his, trying to just get him deeper inside me.
"Fuck" I whined out when Ethan grabbed some of my hair making me stare out to the beautiful view, some people on the beach who would never know what was happening behind them. "You look so fucking beautiful" Ethan praised once again, he continued his thrusts, going faster when my moans got louder.
Suddenly, Ethan's pace became so fast that I couldn't keep up with my hips, all I could do was stand there and take it, my thighs getting sore from his hips slapping against them. All I wanted was Ethan to go harder, fuck me so hard I couldn't walk and I make me moan so much that I cant speak.
"Fucking ruin me please, I-I please baby" I begged Ethan, only wanting him on my mind and nothing else.
Ethan must have heard what I said because he immediately fucked me harder, going deeper and faster than he ever has. "Oh my god" I whimpered, incoherent moans leaving my mouth, when I felt the familiar bubbling in my stomach I knew I had to cum. My hips tensed and I felt my legs start to shake and want to give out, I let out a yelling moan and felt myself cum, but clearly Ethan didn't.
He continued his thrusts until I felt his grip on my hair loosen and his hips slow a bit, I heard his strangled moan and I knew he was cumming. His hot seed filling me up and leaving me feeling warm inside, I let my body rest a bit and relaxed the arch in my back that I created to help Ethan.
Ethan must have been tired as well as he rested against my back, running his hands up and down my sides and just caressing my skin. "You're so perfect, Mrs Nestor" Ethan breathed against my skin, I smiled and let out another sigh, "I love you so much, my husband".
My body must have been out of energy as my legs started to wobble and I had to pull myself on the railing to avoid falling. Ethan's hands grabbed my hips and helped me stand, we both let out a laugh and a deep breath as he pulled out of me.
"I know I liked the idea of fucking you so hard you couldn't stand, but god I didn't think I'd do it this way" Ethan said with a laugh before he sat us both down onto our lounge chair. He held me close to him as I rested my head on his chest, appreciating the beautiful scenery and my amazing husband.

The Wedding Planner
Description: The number one rule when it comes to wedding planning is 'Don't fall in love with either of your clients.' What if you already were?
Warnings: soft smut
Word Count: 3.4k+
"Lillie, cue the lights and get the bride for me, thanks," you spoke into your little Bluetooth thing allowing you to communicate with your entire without disturbing any of the guests.
You watched as the lights dimmed down and the music began playing as the bride and her father walked up to the altar, feeling proud of yourself for planning such a wedding at a short notice. Everyone was in awe when she passed the guests, she wanted a princess fantasy wedding, so you and your team gave her a princess fantasy.
"Y/N, everything is all set for the reception," Lillie whispered standing next to you while watching the ceremony as well.
"Thank you, I don't know how I could work without you," you sighed and she shook her head.
"I think you would do fine," she said, making you scoff.
"I don't think so. You're my assistant, you know how I like things to be done," you said and she nodded her head this time with a smile.
"Oh Lillie, we can't go to the reception today. We have an important appointment at the same time. We need to leave in around….. ten minutes," you paused to look at your watch, "so if you could please go over the reception one more time, while I finalize some stuff here, that would be great,"
"Okay, I'll meet you by the entrance," she said before quickly walking away nodding her head.
"Okay, guys! Great work today, as always," you said into the 'microphone' getting thanks from everyone, "I'll see you guys tomorrow at our meeting, bye guys,"
You grabbed your things from a small room where you were settled in and walked to your car where Lillie was waiting.
"So, who are we working for now?" she asked as you opened the car getting inside.
"Some big YouTuber and a model," you sighed turning on the car after putting your seatbelt on, "She was kinda cocky on the phone, I'm not gonna lie," you sighed making her chuckle.
"Aren't they all like that?" She asked and you shrugged.
"I don't know, but let's hope my judgment is wrong," you sighed making a few turns before pulling up to your office.
You've owned a Wedding Planning service for a couple of years now. You used to work for someone but you were the best of the best, so you decided to part ways, and it was going great. You've planned for many celebrities and important people, so your company was doing well.
"Is that her?" Lillie asked pointing to a brunette girl that was waiting by the door. "I think so," you replied with a shrug, and got out of the car with Lillie following close behind.
"Hi, how can we help you today?" you asked with a smile as you approached the girl.
"Hey, I'm Tylah, we had an appointment today," she said, returning your smile as you unlocked the door.
"It's great to meet you, sorry if we're late we just came back from a wedding," you apologized walking in as she shook her head.
"You guys are fine, in your defense this was a bit rushed," she said and you slowly nodded your head with a smile and walked her to your office.
"Okay, I'm just going to quickly explain how the process works, is that alright?" you asked and she nodded her head, "Okay, so, the first thing we do is look into venues or places of interest, and we also write important things down, to go over things that the bride and the groom want. After that, we go to the venues to help you pick one out, then we get into the actual planning since we have a clear image of the venue, then we go dress picking if you haven't done that already, flower picking, and my team will take care of all the decorations, while me and Lillie go over everything, and stay close with you, by that I mean we do the rehearsal, choreographies, train the best man for his speech and the maid of honor, and make sure you like everything before we bring the plan to live," you explained as she nodded her head and listened.
"That sounds great. When do we start?"
"We can start the first 'phase' tomorrow, is the groom coming in?" you asked and she nodded her head.
"Great, you can come in anytime in the morning, and I will be here, do you have any questions?" you asked.
"No I'm great, we'll come by at 7 if that's okay?" she said and you nodded your head.
"That's perfect, I'll see you tomorrow," you replied, getting up from your chair to walk her out.
"Thank you so much for doing this after I called out of nowhere," she said with a smile.
"It's okay, thank you for coming to us. Have a great day," you replied before she left the building.
"How was she?" Lillie asked, making you shake your head.
"She was actually really nice," you said with a smile. "Lillie you can go home now, make sure to be here before seven,"
"Okay, thank you. Make sure to eat something, you haven't eaten anything all day," she said and you nodded your head.
"I'll grab something on the way home," you replied, walking away to grab your stuff, "Drive safe," you shouted when you heard the door opening.
"You too," she shouted back.
The next day you were up at 5 am, getting ready and eating breakfast to be out the door by 6, and getting to your office at 6:30. You were never a person to be late, you were always on time, or before time, but never late. It's just how you were wired, which is great when it comes to planning stuff. For every event you plan, you have a schedule detailed to the last minute, wanting to give your clients their dream wedding. The wedding you never got to have, for a certain reason which motivated you to give them exactly what they want.
"Good morning Lillie, you ready for today?" you said as you walked inside your establishment to be met with Lillie.
"As always, did you eat anything?" she asked and you nodded your head. "Good, I don't want you passing out on me, again," she said, making you shake your head.
"I won't, I promise," you sighed before walking away to your office and setting everything up.
"Y/N, they're here," Lillie said, knocking on your door.
"Let em' in please," you said and she nodded her head before walking away.
"Good morning, how are we doing?" you asked once you felt people walking inside the room, not taking your eyes off the computer.
"We're good, how are you doing?" Tylah replied making you smile.
"I'm doing grea-," you began saying before looking up to be met with who you least expected to see. "I'm doing great, just fine," you continued after clearing your throat. That was a lie.
You weren't expecting to see him again. At least not in your office.
His eyes stared at you, while you tried to avoid all sorts of eye contact with him, so you tried to focus on Tylah as she spoke about the things she liked, and what was important to her.
Her phone started ringing and she excused herself before answering it, "I'm sorry guys but I have to go. You don't need me anymore anyways. Grayson, make sure the things you want matches with mine yeah?" he said before walking away leaving you and Grayson alone.
And after what seemed like hours of silence, you decided to speak.
"So Grayson, what things do you like? What do you need to have at your wedding?" you asked in your nicest tone while looking into your computer.
"Y/N, look at me," he sighed, and you looked up at the ceiling before turning to look at him, trying to hide any emotion you were feeling.
"Listen-," he began saying before you cut him off, shaking your head.
"- Grayson, please don't waste my time. Not again. So please tell me what you like so that I can write it down and we can start planning your wedding," you sighed shaking your head.
"I don't know what I like," he shrugged, making you sigh.
"Of course you don't," you whispered mainly to yourself, "What colors do you like the most, flowers, what's your aesthetic, just something?"
"I like green, and minimalist," he said and you nodded your head, and typed it into the computer, and turned off your heart for the day, and the next 6 months.
"How about flowers?" you asked and he shook his head.
"None, after what you told me, I don't like any," he whispered and you nodded your head.
"Well, that was my personal opinion, flowers are not actually for dead people Grayson," you chuckled.
"I know, but as you said, they die, just like people," he replied and you shrugged.
"Yeah, anyway. Do you have any place where you want this to take place? And areas that interest you, for the uh- for the honeymoon?" you asked, the words, the words getting stuck in the back of your throat.
"I don't know. What did Tylah say?" he asked.
"She said an afternoon in Paris," you said trying to hold back a laugh as you read, "have walks around all the parks, and visit all the restaurants and clubs,"
"I don't want to do that," he whispered and you shook your head.
"Let me guess, yeah? You would rather go to Australia or Hawaii, without any clubs," you said and he slowly nodded his head.
"I'll see what I can do, and come up with an agreement where you both get what you want," you added, writing it down on a sticky note.
"I'm sorry," he said and you looked at him.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean this. This must be weird for you, planning your ex's honeymoon," he said and you shook your head.
"It is weird, but what's weirder is planning a wedding and then having to plan another one with that same Groom but this time with the first bride's sister," you said, making his eyes widen.
"I'm not even going to ask questions," he said and you nodded your head.
"Yeah, it was a struggle, but it is what it is," you shrugged before closing your laptop. "Anyways, I'll see you guys after tomorrow to go and visit the venues," you sighed before getting up from your seat.
After Grayson left, you quickly called Lillie into your office.
"Lillie, you're gonna have to take over this wedding for me," you sighed and she gave you a look.
"What do you mean? Did you break the rules? It's too soon," she said and you shook your head.
"No, it's been broken. Remember the story I told you," you said and she nodded her head.
"It's him, Lillie. It's Grayson. And now he's getting married and I'm the planner," you sighed as tears threatened to spill.
"But you don't love him right?"
"I do, Lillie. I never stopped. That's why you have to plan it, I'll come up with an excuse as to why I can't do it," you said wiping the few tears that managed to escape.
"I can't Y/N, I'm sorry, she asked for you specifically, she wants the best wedding planner in the state, and that's you," you said and you shook your head.
"I don't think I can continue this. He left me after I had everything planned he left me, and I don't think I can plan this without breaking down halfway," you sighed before taking a sip of your water.
"Yes you can," you said standing next to grabbing on your shoulders to make you look at her, "pretend you hate him. Make yourself believe you hate him, even if you don't, at least until the wedding is over," she said and you nodded your head. "You never told me the full story. Do you want to talk about it, it might help?"
"Well, we started dating in High School, then he had to leave but we stayed strong, even after he had to fly to LA and go to Jersey all the time. When he finally moved to LA, we made it work, I was still in school and he was out here doing what he had to. Graduation came around and I got into Stanford so I moved out here with him. A couple of months later, he proposed and we got engaged. We planned our wedding all by yourself, and three months later he called it off. In his car."
Flashback:
"Y/N, can we talk?" he asked you as he pulled into his driveway.
"Sure, is everything okay? Did something happen?" you asked, taking off your seatbelt and turning to look at him.
"I just, I just think we're rushing a bit," he said, his words hitting your heart with a knife.
"What do you mean," you asked, your voice coming out broken.
"I think we should take a break," he said, his tone cold and bitter.
Breaking your heart with every word he spat.
"Grayson, you can't ask someone to marry you and then ask for a break. That's not how it works. You can't ask me to marry you and say we're rushing. We've been together for 5 almost six years, how are we rushing?" you asked, anger clouding your mind.
"Because I don't want to be with you anymore," he spat, finally crushing your heart.
"So why the fuck did you take me on a fucking date tonight? Why the fuck did you ask me to marry you? You don't lose feelings for a person in month Grayson. Why the hell did you ask me to marry you, and move in with you when you don't fucking want me?" you slightly shouted before getting out of the car, walking to who knows where in the rain.
That night you walked for what seemed years but was only a couple hours. You found a hotel and stayed there. Never wanting to see Grayson Dolan in your life.
You cried and cried. You cried until no tears came out. Cried until your sobs could no longer be heard. You cried until you felt nothing.
He broke you, for no absolute reason. He came up with a fantasy and shared it with you, only to take away and crush you.
You wondered if you've done anything if you hurt him in any way. But you just couldn't come up with an answer.
Mainly because you never did.
You did nothing but love him. You were there for him. Always. You stopped studying just to listen to his rants. You gave him advice. You tried to help him in every way you could.
But clearly, that wasn't enough.
The way he spat the words replayed on your mind over and over.
'Because I don't want to be with you anymore,' was engraved on your brain for months.
What hurt the most was the way he just didn't care about you. He didn't bother to look for you. He didn't care whether you were safe or not. He didn't care about anything.
Back to reality:
"That's fucked up," she sighed and you nodded your head.
"What's more fucked up is that I still love him," you sighed and shook your head, "I tried to force myself into hating him, for breaking me, for crushing my heart," you sighed laying your head on your desk.
"But I couldn't because, for the bad things he did, the good things outweigh them. Each and every time. Every time I thought of when he hurt me, I remembered all the good times, all the times he loved me. All the times he flew me over or flew to Jersey. But he claimed we rushed, but now he's getting married, a year after he left me?" you sighed and finally left the tears fall.
"I just don't understand what I did wrong. I gave him my all Lillie, I gave him everything times one hundred and that wasn't enough. And what hurt the most was the way he said it, "Because I don't want to be with you anymore," he said it so carelessly, so bitter, like if he never wanted me in the first place. Like if he hated me," you sobbed and she moved to the side to hug you.
"Y/N, from what you're telling me, you did nothing wrong," she sighed, running her hands through your hair.
"So why did he leave me? If I was enough, why did he leave me?"
"Because he doesn't deserve you. Because you'll always be better than he ever was," you said and you shook your head.
"And why does it still hurt? Why is he back in my life," you sighed sniffling.
"I don't know. But remember how you told me there's a reason behind every time? Then there's a reason behind why he's back in your life. And it's up to you to figure it out," she said and you nodded your head.
"Thank you. I'm gonna go home for the day, can you stay here today?" you asked and she nodded your head.
You went home and cried again. You cried in the shower. You cried as you made yourself dinner, you cried while watching a sad movie that you put on to make yourself even sadder, and you cried as you fell asleep, until a knock on your door woke you up.
"What are you doing here?" you gasped as you opened your door to be met with him.
"I can't stop thinking about you," he sighed and you shook your head.
"No, no, please don't do this," you sighed shaking your head. "How did you get my address?"
"That's not the point, Y/N. The point is that I never stopped thinking about you, I never did," he said making you sob.
"Grayson please, you can't do this. You're engaged, you're getting married. Please don't hurt me again," you shook your head, trying to close the door before he stopped you by slamming his lips against yours.
Your hands moved up, getting tangled in his hair as he picked you up, wrapping your legs around his waist, as he walked inside and closed the door with his foot.
He laid you down on the couch, his lips moving down to your neck, instantly finding the spot that always made you melt.
Your hands moved from his neck to the hem of his shirt, signaling to take it off, which he did, following with yours.
And piece by piece, all pieces of clothing were discarded and thrown on the ground.
"Ready?" he asked and you softly nodded your head. A gasp falling past your lips when you felt him push.
"Fuck I missed you," he groaned at the feeling of you clenching around him, making you moan.
"Gray," you moaned clutching on to his shoulder as his lips drew small marks on your neck.
And after all the bliss and good feeling moments, you felt disgusting.
Whatever happened was not enough to overpower whatever you were feeling about yourself.
"No. no. no, what did I do?" you asked yourself after slipping your clothes back on.
"Grayson what did we do? We shouldn't have done that, oh my God," you started freaking out before Grayson moved towards you and grabbed your hands.
"It's okay, she did it to me too," he shrugged and you shook your head.
"No, it's wrong, and did you just use me to get back at her?"
"What? No, I told you I missed you," he said and you shook your head.
"Well, you can't miss me. I can't believe I just did that, that's rule number five," you whispered. "Grayson you need to leave please,"
"What?"
"I said you need to leave. We've already done more than enough. This is not professional at all, and I can't risk losing everything so please leave, before you hurt me more than you have and before you hurt her too," you getting up from the couch and walking to the door.
"What about what you want?" he said, making you let out a sarcastic chuckle.
"What I wanted died years ago, and now I need you to leave and to never speak of this again,"
this sucks ass

The doorbell chimes, alerting you to the entrance of a new customer, a cold breeze blowing behind him. Your gaze shifts from your intricate arrangement of peach blossoms and orchids in the window display towards the tattooed man who's draped in variations of black clothing. You eye his hefty combat boots, arching an eyebrow as he steps off the welcome mat and tracks snow into your shop.
"I'm sorry, sir. I think you have the wrong store. We sell flowers here, not dumbbells. Try the idiot and his gym next door, and maybe before you track mud and snow into my damn store?"
Jungkook rolls his eyes, backtracks to the welcome mat, and makes a show of him wiping his boots. His eyes lock with yours the entire time, and he gestures with his hands after a few moments. "Happy now, your worship?"
You eye the twenty-something up and down, tilting your head to the side as if trying to make up your mind. "Nah, you're still here."
As you turn back to your work, Jungkook steps into the shop, ignoring your last comment. "Well, I've come here to place an order, in case you're wondering. Do you have any florists that are actually nice to customers?"
"Since when do you want to buy flowers?" Brushing your hands onto your jeans, you move from the window display back to the other side of the counter. Offering a forced smile to the brunet on the other side, you muster your most obnoxious customer-service voice and ask, "What can I get for you, sir?"
Jungkook rests his forearms on the counter and leans forward a bit, coming eye-to-eye with you. "How do I passive-aggressively say 'fuck you' in flower?"
Tapping your chin, you offer, "Well, I would want to know specifically who this 'fuck you' is directed towards, but a good place to state would be Geraniums for stupidity, Foxglove for insincerity, Meadowsweet for uselessness, yellow carnations basically say 'you have disappointed me,' and orange lilies will show the hatred of a thousand suns."
Jungkook's grin widens. "Perfect. I'll take a dozen arrangements. Deliver them as soon as possible to my best friend's apartment."
"That'll be six million won."
His eyes bulge at the price tag. "Six million!"
You pout at him, sticking your lower lip out and batting your eyelashes. "Not worth bothering your best friend after all, Gym Bunny?"
Jungkook's facade breaks down at the mention of your longtime nickname. He snickers, his grin causing smile lines to appear at the corners of his eyes and tops of his cheeks. His laughter is contagious, eventually enticing you to do the same.
"Damn, I am glad you're back," he sighs.
You'll never admit it, but those words send a wave of warmth through you. Jungkook is someone you've been friends with for a long time, since before high school, before puberty, before being best friends with the opposite sex was awkward. For that, you're grateful. There's only been one thing that hasn't changed since then, and that's how you both feel about each other. You've been attached at the hip for over a decade. For most of your teen years and early adulthood, there wasn't a day that went by when you hadn't at least texted or called.
Even as you grew older, your lives turned out pretty similarly. Jungkook took a few college classes, decided it wasn't really for him, and opened up his own gym with fellow Busan-native Park Jimin. Between the two men's drive and natural athleticism, you weren't surprised at all when the business took off. You joined forces with fellow botany major students Jung Hoseok and Min Yoongi, and shortly after completing year two out of a three-year program, the trio of flower-children put a hefty down payment on the shabby chic building in old Seoul. By summer's end, the flower shop was in full swing and getting orders from both individuals and companies for events all over the city.
As luck would have it, Jungkook and Jimin's gymnasium is right across from your shop. This makes for healthy competition between the two groups, but no more so than between old friends. You both have always tried to out-do one another, but it's always with friendly intent. You harass each other like it's the last thing you'll ever do—you call him Gym Bunny, and he refers to you as his Flower Child—but in the end, there's no one you'd rather have in your corner than the boy standing in front of you.
"You've said that about seven times since you picked me up from the airport at Christmas."
"And I mean it, every damn time!"
"You sure about that?" you chuckle, shoving his shoulder from across the counter. "I mean, a single fall semester and you've broken up with your lady friend the second I came back."
He brushes your comment off with a wave of his hand. "Aish, that wasn't you. That breakup was a long-time coming. Thought it would be best to do it before the holidays so we wouldn't have that awkwardness to deal with on top of family drama."
You make a sound of disbelief and shift over to the back room. Jungkook follows you as you pick up several more empty vases and begin to take them to the adjacent window display, two at a time.
"I still feel bad for you, Kook. I mean, you didn't have anyone over Christmas or New Year's. Now it's the Lunar New Year, and not only do you not have a girlfriend, but the boys are also out of town."
Jungkook shrugs as if it's nothing. "I have you!"
"Well, actually..." Biting your lower lip, you turn towards him with a sheepish expression. "I kinda have to work late today to get some orders done for a wedding next week. With the holiday, and my fearless business partners out of the country, I'm cutting it close as is. I didn't want to wait until the weekend was over before getting those in. I was going to tell you, but..."
"Oh, I got you." He shakes his head fervently. "No, trust me, I understand. You're a business owner. You gotta do what you gotta do." He glances around the shop. "If it's worth anything, I like what you've done with the place."
You follow his eyes, spotting the tiny handing lanterns and ruby cards handing along the periphery of the shop. Even with two of the three owners absent, you wanted the store to feel celebratory. The small space was now a perfect blend of vibrant viridian and striking scarlet. You'd put in the effort a week or so ago, and it feels nice to have that acknowledged.
"Is there anything I can help with?"
"Um..." You gesture towards the supply room behind you. "Go back there and look at the register on the wall. Tell me how many sets of gold and red ribbon I have."
Jungkook eagerly slips into the back room and begins doing as you ask. In his absence, you turn moving merchandise across the shop.
"Yoongi and Hoseok leave you hanging on this order, huh?"
"Not their fault, they didn't know we were going to get such a massive job while they were away." You return to the backroom for the last set of vases. "Those two haven't had a day off in a while; between the final year at university and the shop being as busy as it is, there's always something to do. I told them I could handle it, no problem. It's about time they had a holiday by themselves. Didn't realize they'd go as far as Hawaii..."
Your companion snickers, "At least Yoongi-hyung will get some sun for once. And you have five rolls of red ribbon, and two rolls of gold."
You snap your fingers, an idea popping into your head as the final set of vases are set in the window display. "That reminds me: I need to place an order for that as well."
"What else do you have to do before you close?"
Biting your lower lip, you grab your notebook and pull the pencil from the spine, going down your list. "I need to handle the details of that big order, which includes a call with the clients. I need to get the vendor to confirm the details of a separate order. I also need to place an order for some supplies, which now...includes...ribbons." You scribble the notes in the margin so you don't forget. "Also a few admin things like paying the rent and utilities, which usually Yoongi handles...Oh! And changing the irrigation, which Hoseok usually does every month...and I think I'm a week late—shit."
Seeing your uneasy state and hearing you ramble on about all your tasks, Jungkook places a hand on your shoulder. You jump a little at his touch, nearly dropping your notebook as he breaks you out of your mental spiral. Luckily, your best friend has the reflexes of a cat. He catches it before it makes it to the ground.
"Are you sure you're okay, [Y/n]?" His voice is soft and concerned, nothing like the playful and teasing tone of before. "I know I don't know much about running a flower shop or ordering from vendors or cleaning out the irrigation-whatever...but you need someone to help you. You can't possibly get all of this done alone, tonight. Can't any of this wait until tomorrow?"
You shake your head with a sigh. "The vendors are closed after tonight and won't open until Monday. And the wedding those flowers are for is Friday. If I don't order tonight, they won't ship in time to get here. And the bills are a little late as is; I have to take care of those or Yoongi will kill me. And the irrigation is super important for plant health—"
"—But your mental and physical health is important, too," Jungkook reminds you with a gentle insistence. His brown eyes stare straight ahead, showing you with his attention how serious he is. "When did you get here this morning?"
"Um...I don't remember exactly, it was sometime around six—"
"—And what time did you leave last night?"
"Nine-ish?"
The brunet sighs, running a tattooed hand over his face. "You're gonna burn out, jagiya. You can't keep this up."
"It's only for tonight, I promise! Once this order is in, and these few things are taken care of, I'll be better about my schedule. I promise."
Jungkook shakes his head at your stubbornness, raising his hands in mock defeat. "All right, all right. You win. What can I help with?"
"Seriously?"
"Yes," he laughs. "What do I always say? You're the platonic love of my life; I'll do anything for you, Flower Child."
Your teeth sink into your bottom lip to help your mind stay off his usual comment, one that somehow feels different these days. "Well...can you go home and feed my cat?"
He arches an eyebrow and crosses his arms. "Are you serious? I meant here, at the shop, idiot."
"And I'm serious! Elizabeth the 3rd needs attention and dinner. You'd be doing me a huge favor, Bunny."
"You know, that cat hates me."
"Hey, she might be on to something. You are pretty shady."
Jungkook throws his hand up as he turns towards the door. "Y'know, the greatest part of you studying abroad was not being harassed every single day."
A mock-evil, villainous laugh bursts from your mouth, a sound you know only annoys him further. "You love me anyway!"
"Yeah, yeah. I'll be back after I feed your damn cat, and I'm picking up dinner. What do you want?"
Your eyes widen, and your laughter fades as you bounce up and down where you stand. "If you bring Natsukashii takeout, I will love you forever."
Throwing a wink in your direction as he reaches the door, Jungkook replies, "You already do."
After he leaves, flurries of snow blow through as the door closes. As they dance in the air, melting against the hardwood floor and the potted plants that fill the cozy space, you gnaw on your lower lip subconsciously. A shiver runs down your spine, and your hands rub up and down your arms to stave off the chill.
But the late-winter weather isn't the cause of the tremor down your back, or the hairs standing on end along your forearms. This exact reaction is one you'd been shoving in the back of your mind for a while. Thoughts of Jungkook in a way you'd never considered before, something more than what you've been for the past decade, something that's changed so slowly over time you'd hardly noticed it, something that is definitely not platonic.
Heaving a sigh, you shake thoughts of Jungkook away, forcing them into the smallest closet in the back of your memory. With the last bit of mental power you can manage, you shove the metaphorical door closed and lock it tight. Those thoughts will be there tomorrow, just as they've been there every day for the past six months. You can deal with them then, because there's no way you'll consider acting on a fleeting emotion that might lead to the end of the one stable thing in your life. The one permanent thing. The one good thing.
Not a chance in hell.
The vermilion lights seem brighter as the darkness sets in. Lunar New Year is finally here, and the city is alive with festivities and revelry. The season of scarlet and change is upon Seoul—and for once in your life, you're relieved to be spending it alone, amongst the flowers.

Stay Golden Sunday: Guess Who’s Coming to the Wedding?
Okay, we’ve got past the pilot, the show has been greenlit, and it’s time for our first Dorothy-centric episode. Bea Arthur gets to flex her acting muscles, and we meet one of the show’s best recurring characters: Stan Zbornak.
Picture It...
The episode opens with Dorothy anticipating the arrival of her daughter Kate, who’s bringing along a boyfriend. When Kate arrives, she drops the bomb that she and her doctor boyfriend, Dennis, are getting married. Dorothy, while thrilled, balks at Kate’s plan to elope to the Bahamas.
DOROTHY: You are not getting married on an island by a priest wearing clamdiggers and a Harry Belafonte shirt.
Kate reminds her that the main reason she and Dennis are eloping is the animosity between Dorothy and her ex-husband Stan, who divorced her and ran off to Hawaii with a stewardess after 38 years of marriage. Dorothy offers to keep the peace with Stan in exchange for throwing Kate a wedding in Miami.
Dorothy calls Stan to invite him to the wedding, and manages to keep her cool, as when he attends he’ll be “close enough to kill.” Rose and Blanche laugh at this but swiftly realize she’s not exactly joking.
The next day, the Girls are working on wedding prep while Dorothy complains about Stan. Kate arrives with Dennis, who makes an excellent impression on Dorothy and Sophia, though they are a bit weirded out to discover his specialty is podiatry. Dorothy happily welcomes Dennis into the family and he promises Kate will never want for everything.
SOPHIA: And maybe one of your children will be a real doctor!
But the good times cannot last. The day of the wedding, Dorothy answers a ring of the bell to see Stan, and immediately slams the door in his face. Get used to me saying that, by the way.
Stan rings again and manages to cross the threshold this time. He greets the ladies and Kate, who’s in her wedding dress. He needles Dorothy enough that she loses her composure, and, when Kate and Stan leave for the church, almost refuses to attend her own daughter’s wedding. Rose and Blanche convince her to hold it together, and say they’ll keep an eye on her.
After the wedding, Stan continues to push Dorothy’s buttons. Blanche helps Dorothy keep from exploding by sacrificing the bones in her hand. Later, Sophia finds Dorothy sulking in her bedroom and tells her that, if she’s so angry at Stan, she should tell him rather than let it continue to upset her.
DOROTHY: “Anger is like a piece of shredded wheat?”
SOPHIA: You want poetry, you listen to Neil Diamond. You want good advice, you listen to your mother.
Later, after seeing Kate and Dennis off on their honeymoon, Dorothy asks to speak to Stan. Once alone with her ex-husband, she unleashes all of her frustration over his treatment of her during their divorce, ripping off his toupee to make her point. I can’t really sum it up. You have to see it to really get it (and marvel at Bea Arthur’s performance):
youtube
She ends by telling Stan goodbye, like she wasn’t able to when he walked out. Stan leaves, and the girls go to comfort Dorothy. She says she feels better, but that she does have one souvenir of their encounter: Stan’s toupee.
“Of course I’m right. You think I got this old by being stupid?”
Considering this is only the second episode, I think it’s amazing how GG immediately shows a more nuanced, complex handling of emotional issues than many other sitcoms I’ve seen. In just about every other show I’ve ever seen, Dorothy as the wronged woman would be the absolute center of sympathy and the whole show would probably be an extension of the final diatribe she gives Stan. I’m not saying that would be bad, just a bit self-righteous, no? I’m fairly certain that was the exact plot of the pilot episode of Designing Women.
Instead the show adopts a bit of a tough love attitude. The show is on Dorothy’s side, but her making the occasion all about her and how she feels is portrayed as a bad thing. Blanche, Rose, and Sophia make it clear that, while they love and sympathize with Dorothy, they aren’t going to let her self-pity ruin Kate’s wedding. Sophia even tells her she’s acting like a jerk. “You’re not the first woman to be dumped by her husband.”
You could argue (and I’m sure many who’ve been in Dorothy’s position would have a point) that this is diminishing how Dorothy feels, which is probably still pretty raw. But their pushing is ultimately good for Dorothy, as it encourages her to deal with her feelings on her terms.
I don’t know if it dates the episode that Dorothy manages to scramble a full-blown wedding for Kate within a week, but the fact that Stan is able to make plans to fly from Hawaii in a few days on the spot does feel a little 80s -- kind of like the opening scene in Die Hard where John McClane open-carries a sidearm on a plane. It just makes you say “Well, there was certainly a time when this was plausible.”
Similarly, it’s maybe a little odd that Kate’s getting married to man she’s known for six months to a man neither of her parents have met. Again, maybe that’s something that only feels odd today, but whatever, it’s in service to the plot. Still, all the parts where Dorothy showers praise on Dennis, not to mention the part where she says she’ll kill Dennis if he doesn’t take care of Kate, feel rather awkward given what happens next season. We’ll get to that episode when it happens.
Herb Edelman is great as Stan, but watching this episode, it’s amazing that this nasty, spiteful character who keeps making digs at Dorothy in spite of her doing nothing wrong would eventually become the likable goofball we know from the rest of the series. I’m not mad about it, because him being so terrible in this episode is what makes Dorothy’s speech such a powerful one, but if you watch this one back to back with, for example, “If At Last You Do Succeed,” it’s like watching two completely different characters.
I concede that an explanation for this could be that Stan’s had several years to change by the time of the latter. But Stan’s pivot from villain to a likable recurring character is still pretty jarring. Again, I think it’s a change for the better, but it was worth pointing out.
Also, I’m not sure how, but the episode already trips up its own continuity. In the pilot, it established that Dorothy and Stan were married for 38 years, having been married after Dorothy became pregnant, and they divorced two years ago. Kate is Dorothy’s only known child at this point, and she certainly doesn’t look 40 (her actress, Lisa Jane Persky, was 30 when the episode aired). We meet Michael Zbornak later in the series, but he’s even younger. Dorothy should really already have children-in-law and grandchildren by this point. But hey, then we wouldn’t have this episode.
I’m still working out a rating system for the episode, so for now, let’s say... 4 cheesecake slices out of 5? Dorothy’s speech alone bumps it up by a point if nothing else.
Favorite Part of the Episode:
ROSE: I don’t know what I would have done if Charlie had suddenly paid a visit. SOPHIA: He’s dead. You would have fainted.

World trade decline (Financial Times) World trade experienced an “unprecedented” decline in April as most big economies suffered from strict coronavirus lockdowns, according to widely watched data which found that the eurozone was the hardest-hit area. The volume of global trade in goods dropped by 12.1 per cent in April compared with the previous month, according to the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis—the largest monthly contraction since records began in 2000. The drop exacerbated the 2.4 per cent decline in world trade in March, the bureau’s CPB world trade monitor said, leaving global goods trade volumes 16.2 per cent smaller than the same time last year.
A step toward 51 (NYT) Today, for the first time, the House of Representatives is expected to approve statehood for Washington, D.C. The bill is likely to pass on party lines, with Democrats voting in favor and Republicans against it. Afterward, it is almost certain to die in the Republican-controlled Senate. But the vote is still significant, because it signals the Democratic Party’s growing focus on the issue. It now seems possible that the District of Columbia will become a state whenever Democrats next control the House, the Senate and the White House, which could be as soon as next year. Alaska and Hawaii are the most recent states to join, in 1959, which means the U.S. is in its longest stretch without adding a new state.
Texas Pauses Reopening as Virus Cases Soar Across the South and West (NYT) Just 55 days after reopening Texas restaurants and other businesses, Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday hit the pause button, stopping additional phases of the state’s reopening as new coronavirus cases and hospitalizations soared and as the governor struggled to pull off the seemingly impossible task of keeping both the state open and the virus under control. The announcement by Mr. Abbott—which allows the many shopping malls, restaurants, bars, gyms and other businesses already open to continue operating—was an abrupt turnaround and came as a growing number of states paused reopenings amid rising case counts.
Venezuelans take extraordinary steps to beat water shortage (AP) Venezuela’s economic collapse has left most homes without reliable running water, so Caracas resident Iraima Moscoso saw water pooling inside an abandoned construction site as the end of suffering for thousands of her poor neighbors. Workers had long ago stopped building a nearby highway tunnel through the mountain above them. Yet, spring water continued to collect inside the viaduct and then stream past their homes, wasted. The construction firm had also left behind coils of tube. Moscoso, 59, rallied her neighbors to salvage the materials and build their own system, tapping into the tunnel’s vast lagoon and running the waterline to their homes. Today, they’re free of the city’s crumbling service and enjoy what many in Venezuela consider a luxury. Venezuela’s water crisis is nothing new, but it’s started driving residents to extraordinary measures—banding together to rig their own water systems and even hand dig shallow wells at home. Water today is even more important as a way to protect against the pandemic. An estimated 86% of Venezuelans reported unreliable water service, including 11% who have none at all, according to an April survey of 4,500 residents by the non-profit Venezuelan Observatory of Public Services.
A matter of state delays a matter of the heart (Foreign Policy) Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has had to postpone her wedding for a third time, after an extraordinary European Council summit was called on the weekend of her planned ceremony. The EU meeting, scheduled for July 17-18, will be the first in-person summit since the coronavirus pandemic began. In a Facebook post, Frederiksen pointed out that Denmark’s priorities come before her family’s, meaning her fiancé Bo Tengberg will have to wait. “I’m looking forward to saying yes to Bo (who fortunately is very patient),” she wrote.
After waves of COVID deaths, care homes face legal reckoning (AP) As families flock back to nursing homes that first reopened to limited visits in April and more widely this month, thousands no longer have mothers, fathers, grandparents and siblings to hug and to hold. With graves so fresh that some still don’t have headstones, grieving families across the country are increasingly demanding a reckoning, turning to lawyers to try to determine why almost half of France’s nearly 30,000 COVID-19 deaths hit residents of nursing homes, scything through the generations that came of age after World War I, endured the next world conflict and helped rebuild the country. Many homes had few, even no deaths. But others are emerging with their reputations in tatters, having lost scores in their care. Increasingly, homes are facing wrongful death lawsuits accusing them of negligent care, skimping on protective equipment and personnel, and lying to families about how their loved ones died and the measures they took to prevent infections. In the United States, nursing home residents account for nearly 1 in 10 of all coronavirus cases and more than a quarter of the deaths. In Europe, care home residents account from one-third to nearly two-thirds of the dead in many countries.
Scores dead in Indian lightning strikes (Foreign Policy) At least 107 people have died after being struck by lightning in India, according to local officials. The strikes are common during the country’s monsoon season, and the most recent figures show more than 2,300 Indians died from lightning strikes in 2018. Lakshmeshwar Rai, the disaster management minister for the state of Bihar, said it was the highest daily death toll he has seen in his state in recent years.
China’s Military Provokes Its Neighbors, but the Message Is for the United States (NYT) In the same week that Chinese and Indian soldiers engaged in a deadly brawl, one of China’s submarines cruised through the waters near Japan, prompting a scramble of aircraft and ships to track its furtive movements. Chinese fighter jets and at least one bomber buzzed Taiwan’s territorial airspace almost daily. With the world distracted by the coronavirus pandemic, China’s military has encroached upon its neighbors’ territories on several fronts throughout the spring and now into summer, flexing its military might in ways that have raised alarms across Asia and in Washington. China’s military assertiveness reflects a growing sense of confidence and capability, but also one of confrontation, particularly with the United States over the pandemic, the fate of Hong Kong and other issues that China considers central to its sovereignty and national pride. “I think the possibility of an accidental shot being fired is rising,” Wu Shicun, president of the National Institute for South China Sea Studies, said at a conference in Beijing this week, unveiling a report on American military activity in the region.
Toilet paper limits reintroduced as panic buying returns to Australia (Washington Post) Supermarkets in Australia have been forced to reintroduce limits on toilet paper and other goods to stop a fresh wave of customers from bulk buying unnecessarily. The recent panic is believed to have been triggered by a surge in coronavirus cases in the southeastern state of Victoria. Compared with other countries, Australia has had better success in containing the virus, with 7,595 confirmed cases and 104 deaths. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Friday that Australia’s handling of the virus has been “remarkable,” but he added that there were “some challenges” in Victoria, citing the recent outbreak. Victoria recorded 30 new cases overnight, the 10th consecutive day of double-digit rises. Morrison described the behavior of those engaging in panic buying as “ridiculous.” Photos shared on Twitter this week showed empty shelves in grocery aisles in Sydney and Melbourne, as fears of a second wave seemingly spread across the country.
The coronavirus is jeopardizing a ‘very, very finite’ workforce: Africa’s doctors and nurses (Washington Post) Doctors in Nigeria have gone on strike, demanding face masks and pay that reflects the rising risk. Hospital staffers in Guinea-Bissau had to shutter a treatment ward after nearly everyone on the floor got sick. Nurses in Cameroon are working through fevers—even dodging tests—because they can’t afford to lose a shift’s wages. The coronavirus pandemic has tightened its grip on much of Africa, where reported cases have more than tripled over the last month, jeopardizing overstretched medical teams as the need for care soars. African health officials and medical professionals are raising concerns about cracks in a crucial armor: Infections among health-care workers have shot up 203 percent since late May, according to the World Health Organization’s Africa arm, following a spike in community transmission and a drop in access to protective gear. The trends have alarmed epidemiologists at the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, who warned in a June report that most countries face a “catastrophic shortage” of medical professionals.

Lift Me Up | Sam and Caitriona AU
Sam and Caitriona get stuck in an elevator at work... what happens next?
It was just like any other day. If that day included getting stuck in a lift with your co-star that you were trying not to have feelings for. And by trying, you weren’t really trying at all.
Sam and Caitriona had to be on set in twenty minutes. Season five had just started and it was a nice feeling to be back on set with all the cast and crew they loved. It was like a big family, where everyone got along. For the most part.
It had been a weird back and forth thing between Sam and Caitriona over the break. They’d spent weeks together in Hawaii and days together in New York. They had lunch in Los Angeles and spent their nights together. But it couldn’t work… it shouldn’t work. Truth be told, they were both lying to themselves about how they felt. They knew they loved one another, that much was obvious.
What they needed was a divine intervention to say what they needed to without any interruptions.
Today, they were filming in Cumbernauld, doing some interior shots. Caitriona checked her phone and saw she still had time for a quick snack from craft services, which happened to be on the second floor. Walking over to the lift, she saw that Sam was already standing there waiting.
“Happy about your new wig?” She smiled, pointing to it on his head.
“Oh, God yes. It’s still a wig so it itches, but those bangs were a menace,” he smirked. “Yours looks better too.”
“Thank you,” she tugged on the end of hers, loose and curly. “I always preferred Claire’s hair down anyways.”
“Me too,” Sam smiled and then the lift dinged and the doors opened. He held out his hand, signaling for her to go first. She mumbled a thank you and walked past him. It was always a bit strange on set with each other. People knew about them, but didn’t say anything because of the NDA’s everyone signed.
Which meant on set they were more free, but they also felt guilty for not telling the truth. That they belonged together and that it shouldn’t be kept a secret.
Caitriona pressed the number 2 button to go up to craft services and the doors closed.
“Twenty minutes right?” She confirmed.
“Aye, I think so, at least that’s what my call sheet says,” Sam smiled down at her.
All of a sudden, the lights flickered and the lift shook, halting to a stop. The emergency lights came on inside, creating a dark glow. The lift had stopped.
“Fucking hell!” Sam said and pressed the doors open button, but nothing happened.
“Press the call button,” Cait suggested, coming over to look. Sam pressed it, but nothing happened. “Are we trapped?!”
“Maybe the power went out?” Sam pulled out his phone… no signal. “Shit, do you have signal?”
Caitriona checked her phone and to her surprise, no signal. “What are we going to do? Does anyone even know we’re in here?”
“Maybe if we bang on the doors?” Sam shrugged, laughing a bit.
“Worth a shot,” Caitriona smiled in light of the situation and they both banged their hands on the lift doors, shouting for help. “There’s only three floors, surely someone is walking by.”
Sam banged harder, his hand banging against the metal. “If the power is out then when it comes back on, the lift will start up again.”
“So we just have to wait?”
“What?” Sam looked at her, “I’m not about to push ye up the lift like some movie, Cait.”
Caitriona looked up at the top of the lift, but there was no such paneling like in the movies where one could escape. “Shit, we’re stuck. Are you sure you don’t have signal?”
“No,” he checked again. “I don’t.” Sam sighed and sat down on the ground, defeated, knowing nothing they did would help them. They would simply have to wait it out. “Come sit down, Balfe. You standing up isn’t going to make the doors open.”
“Shut it,” she smirked and then joined him on the ground. “I’m fucking hungry,” she sighed, rubbing her hand over her stomach.
“Oh, I have some nuts in the sporran,” Sam reached into his sporran and pulled out a packet of nuts, handing them to her.
“Of course you do,” she smiled, shaking her head in laughter as he took them. This felt like some kind of cliche, being stuck in a lift. Did these things really happen?
“At least we have to be on set soon and when we don’t show up, they’ll come looking for us,” Cait shrugged as she started eating the nuts.
“Or they’ll think we’re off fucking,” Sam said before he could think.
Caitriona said nothing to this, knowing it wasn’t a lie. They’d been late to set a few times because of that very reason, but she didn’t need to bring that up again just now.
“Are you happy to be back?” She asked instead.
“Yeah,” Sam scratched at his head, wishing he could take off the wig. “I mean it’s long days and hard work sometimes, but I love it here. I love being on set with everyone. You?”
“Yeah I am,” Cait smiled and crossed her legs out in front of her. “I hate getting up in the mornings and getting home late sometimes, but set life is pretty fun. Besides, there are worse jobs we could be doing.”
“What, like being a model?” Sam nudged her in the ribs.
“You wish you were a model,” Cait laughed, nudging him back. “You have a pretty good runway walk, I must admit.”
“Learned from the best,” Sam looked at her. It was dark in the lift, just the glow of the emergency lights. “And…” he added, “I like our Scottish bubble.”
Caitriona smiled and looked down at her hands to avoid his eyes. “I like it too.”
They were both quiet for a few minutes, both wondering idly how much longer they would be stuck — it was getting hot.
Sam stood up and removed his jacket, laying it in the corner, careful not to get it messed up. “You wanna take off your knit shawl thing as well?”
“Sure,” Cait shrugged and stood up too, removing first her shawl and then the next layer of her costume. If the power didn’t come back on soon, they’d both need to keep stripping off layers.
“Cait,” Sam said at the same time that she said, “Sam.”
“You first,” Sam said, laughing.
“Do you ever feel guilty? For what we’re doing? I mean, we spent the better part of the break together and we practically live together, but then…” she held up her left hand where the engagement ring usually was. Instead she was wearing Claire’s wedding bands, but he knew what she meant.
“I do, but then I remember why we’re doing this. You know how I feel about you, about us…” Sam took her hand, squeezing her fingers. “We both know that the engagement is just a farce. A way to protect our privacy. You said it yourself.”
“I know I did,” Cait ran her free hand over her head, then remembered she was wearing the wig. “I just can’t help but feel like I’m lying to everyone, to my friends and family. Our co-workers.”
“Trust me, Cait. People aren’t as dumb as we’d like to think they are,” he laughed. “People know. If they have eyes, they know. It’s just us… that needs to figure it out, once and for all.”
“Are you saying… you want to tell the truth?” Cait looked up at him, shocked. “I thought this was the plan. So that we wouldn’t have so many people asking about us.”
“You said it yourself, we spent the break together, we basically live together, and most people have already figured it out by now, but are too kind to say anything,” he shrugged and then cupped her cheek. “Aren’t you tired of hiding?”
Cait didn’t know what to say. Yes, of course she was, but she’d built up a wall so high around herself she wasn’t sure where to begin tearing it down. They’d lied… about their relationship, about her engagement. It wasn’t real, it never had been. Tony was her assistant and friend, nothing more. But, she still held back from Sam because she was afraid of getting hurt and having the world know.
“Yes,” she finally said and squeezed his hand back. “I am tired of it. I just don’t know if I’m ready to share you.”
“Technically, ye already have been sharin’ me,” he smiled and moved his thumb over her lip. “But its our life and no one can get in the way of that. Everyone will just have to accept it… whenever you’re ready of course.”
“And besides,” Sam slid his hands to her waist. “We can still keep our relationship private, but we don’t need to hide it anymore.”
“I don’t want to hide it,” Caitriona gave in and stood up on her toes to kiss him. It was relief she was feeling as she melted into him. They’d been avoiding this conversation for some time now. Years actually. “I just want you,” she said softly against his lips.
“I’m yours, Balfe,” Sam kissed her. “I always have been and I always will be.”
As small as it was, the lift was a good a place as any and with the power not coming back on any time soon, they started to rid each other of the rest of their costumes.
“Now I really hope that the power doesn’t come back on,” Sam laughed as he untied the laces of his trousers. Caitriona was wearing thick skirts and she was only sliding out of the first layer, still in her shift. “Damn it,” he couldn’t wait.
Sam pressed her against the wall making it shake, his hands roamed her waist and squeezed. She kissed him, her belly aching and burning as he touched her. He lifted one leg and brought it around his waist, pushing her shift up around her hips.
“No panties?” He asked as his fingers pressed lightly against her.
She moaned and bit her lip, her own hand pressing firmly against Sam’s cock through his boxers. “Not today, no. Don’t you usually go commando, Heughan?”
“Unfortunately not today,” he laughed and then grunted as she pressed her hand harder against him. Slowly, Cait hooked her fingers in the waistband of his boxers, tugging them down over his arse. His cock jutted out, erect and throbbing for her.
“I didn’t expect this when I came into the lift,” she looked down, sliding her finger along the shaft.
“Fuck,” he muttered between his teeth and looked down at her hand touching him. “I don’t think I can wait.”
“Really?” Cait smirked and stroked him and pressed her hips against him. Ever so slightly, the tip of him grazed her entrance and they both let out a simultaneous moan. Sam couldn’t take it anymore — he grabbed her hands and lifted them up above her head. Her leg was still around his hip and so all he had to do was push forward and was home.
“You’re so wet, fuck,” Sam held onto her hips and when she tried to let her hand fall on top of his shoulder he shook his head. “Up.”
Cait whined a bit, a sound that went straight to his cock and he pressed his lips against hers. Even with no hands, she was still able to twist her hips in a slow motion. He began to thrust, relentless and without abandon. He wanted her and he wanted her to know she was his and much as he was hers.
“I need you,” he muttered and then Cait was pushing off the wall and using her hands to push him to the ground. She settled on top of him, and he had to move his legs up because he was too tall for the lift. His hands squeezed her hips as she started to move up and down the length of him, taking him in.
He was hot and slick and filled her so completely. She remembered the first time she’d been with him, how sore she’d been for days after. Sam was big, but her body accommodated him well. Caitriona moved her hips, rolling them in time with his thrusts.
His hands traveled along her stomach and then rested over her breasts, squeezing over the thin material of the shift. She was becoming more restless, needing some kind of relief. Sam sat up as best he could, capturing her mouth with his and then licked along her jaw and neck.
Cait grabbed onto his shoulders and soon it was her now on the ground, with Sam looming above her. He held onto her legs, lifting them in the air and pressed harder into her. It was overwhelming, to feel him like this.
“I want you, Cait…” he moaned and looked down at where he was sliding in and out of her. “I want you anyway that I can.” She reached up for him, pulling him down and he landed on her breasts instead. He began to suck on her nipple over the material, leaving a wet spot. The sensation was enough to drive her crazy and she felt her climax coming quickly.
“Sam, please…” he heard it in her voice — how close she was. He angled his hips and kept up his pace all while he nibbled and sucked on her breasts. Cait began to call out his name and that was all he needed to finish, his body trembling as she flexed her thighs around him.
He pressed himself over her, rolling onto their sides as best they could in the small space. Caitriona pressed her hand over his cheek, rubbing at his scruff. They both breathed hard, still feeling that rush of adrenaline.
“I guess I’m glad the lift is broken,” she laughed.
“I am too,” Sam kissed her nose. “But I think someone will notice when they see the state of our wigs.”
“Oh shit,” Cait burst into a laugh, her hand skimming over the top of Sam’s head.
“We can say that we both got scared and when the lift shook, we grabbed onto each other’s head,” he shrugged.
“That’s the stupidest excuse I’ve ever heard, Sam,” Cait chuckled. “We just won’t say anything.”
“No,” he smiled and sighed. “But I’m sure someone knows we’re in here with all that sound you were making.”
Caitriona hit him lightly on the shoulder and he laughed, but pulled her close, still inside of her. His cock twitched and she rolled her hips against him. “Again?” He asked.
“You’re the one who hasn’t pulled out!” Cait laughed and then moaned as he pushed forward.
The power wouldn’t come back on for another hour, giving them plenty of time to finish what they’d started. It took being stuck in a lift for them to finally admit what they wanted and what they need to do. And no one did ask any questions when they finally came out of the lift, half dressed in their costumes and wigs on sideways. Because everyone knew… all it took was a pair of eyes to see the love that was between them.
