the thing that really kills me about the Buck-Eddie-Chris dynamic is that it's not just that Buck is ALWAYS going to be there for them. It's that Eddie KNOWS that. It's that Eddie EXPECTS that. It's that he's had that expectation since before the tsunami.
He knows Buck loves them. He knows he loves Chris. He knows that Chris is and never has been a burden to Buck. He dropped his eight-year-old son off at his depressed best friend's apartment and said BYE HAVE FUN. like. that wasn't a request.
And EVERY time since we've seen Eddie entrust Christopher to Buck, it's never framed as a request. It's an expectation. It's a fact. It's an intrinsic truth he has never questioned. The will is obviously the most glaring example but the expectation is there EVERY time. it's in the way in 5x13 he apologizes TO Buck for scaring Chris. It's in s6 when Eddie asks Buck if Christopher is telling Buck his secrets, fully expecting that if there's something HE doesn't know about his son, Buck will. it's during the lightning strike when Chris demands to go see Buck and Eddie capitulates, because Chris's relationship with Buck is not something he can or ever will stand between. it's in the way in 7x01 Eddie says "Nothing. Not yet. I was kinda hoping...you would!" sounds almosttttt like a request but the way he says it very much isn't. It's "i do not know how to handle this so I am handing it off to you. BYE HAVE FUN."
Buck is not Christopher's dad. But he IS Eddie's coparent. That's pretty indisputable at this point. He treats him like one in almost every way. He doesn't just KNOW Buck will be there for Chris even when Eddie can't. he EXPECTS it.
And the thing is, Chris expects it, too!!!!! He called Buck in s5. He sat down with Buck and opened up about his complicated feelings about his mom in 7x01. Buck has been the most stable adult figure in Chris's life other than his dad for almost SEVEN years at this point.
The other thing is, I don't think Buck even realizes how important it is that they have that expectation. that they're ABLE to rely on him and trust him so intrinsically. that it's never been a question for either of them that Buck is supposed to be with them. HE knows he'll always be there for them, no matter what, no questions asked. ("I'm here, what can i do?") but I don't think he understands how monumental it is that Chris and Eddie both know that, too.

Hi do yk when the next episode of 911 will be out.. it's been 2 weeks already
Hi Nonnie! Sure, ep 409 will air on April 19, so we have four more weeks to go. Six weeks in total may feel like a lot, but it’s nothing compared to how much we’ve waited between eps 318 and 401, plus a whole third is already behind us. And there’s still so much good content being produced. So hang in there, it’ll be okay! ;) xoxox
This isn't really a question, I just wanted to say: Going into this ep, I really thought the one-on-one with Buck and Chris would be him babysitting, but we really got that AND Chris RUNNING to Buck?!?! I'm still in shock that it's real. I've read similar concepts in fanfic so many times, seeing it happen on the show in real time was such a rush. The fact that I can go and rewatch that scene? Magical. I love them so much, I hope we get more Buck and Chris scenes in 4b.
Hello Nonnie and thank you for this! Yep, I adore that scene so much, too! There’s a reason I just had to draw it, you know? I was pretty sure the talk with Buck would be meaningful and touch upon Eddie dating again, but the way it was done? Wow. It made it so clear how significant Buck is to both Chris and Eddie. As bad as the Anna and Eddie relationship is being handled, it only emphasizes how good the r/s between Buck and the Diaz boys is and I am so here for it. I hope we never stop getting great Buck and Chris scenes, showing Buck really is his other parent, and great Buddifer scenes, because the three of them together are just an amazing little family unit that makes me smile nonstop! Hope you have a great day and thank you again for this lovely reminder of a great scene! xoxox
(one more under the cut for the sake of everyone’s dashes)
A plot bunny that I popped into my mind and I may write one day (ignore me if you want, I just wanted to share it :D). An "Overboard" Buddie AU. Buck is the son of the millionaire Buckley family and he feels so lonely that he engages in bratty, reckless behaviour and he sleeps with everyone available. Eddie as a hard working single father who's hired to fix something in Buck's yach or whatever. Buck flirts with Eddie, Eddie tells him he's a brat or something hurtful, they have a fight...
2) Buck fires Eddie and kicks him out of the yatch (he feels guilty for doing that, because Buck is like that, but he's very hurt too). Then, like in the movie, Buck has an accident and falls off the boat and loses his memory. Eddie pretends that Buck is his husband so that Buck can "pay off" his debt. Buck starts being a disaster, but then he learns (using the internet and a good dose of Buckley stubborness) and he's really good at it. The firefam, of course, are the neightbours.
3) Buck learns lots of new stuff (chores, the neightbour gossip...) and he's being happier he has ever been (not that he remembers). Chris wants him to stay forever. Buck is in love with his husband and Eddie falls very hard for Buck. Of course, lots of hilarity issues, with Buck trying to seduce his husband and Eddie wanting to have sex with Buck but not wanting to cross the line. And then Buck remembers, they fight, they get back together and happy ending, getting married and living at Eddie's
The movie Overboard is really good (I liked more the old one, instead of the reboot, but that one is not bad). Btw, I send you lots of energy for the new exercises! You can do it! :DDD
@roadnotsodark Thank you so much for sharing your idea with me in this series of asks (and for re-sending the second one). Honestly, I love this so much, it’s such a fun scenario with tons of potential for hilarious situations as well as awesome will-they-won’t-they tension. I haven’t seen either movie version (though I know that the old one starred Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, who are both awesome actors, especially Goldie IMO, and that this is how they met and fell in love in real life, meaning it can only be gold). I think you’d have insane amounts of fun writing this fic, so I hope you do! Also, thank you so much for the kind words! That means a lot. Sending you tons of hugs, love and lots of positive energies, too! xoxox
