We are watching Vento Aureo with a friend who, when I met them, hated the very concept of shipping. They got over themselves when I explained that it's just like having any other headcanon and that it's not that deep, but they were still adamant that they don't ship things at all and that it's embarrassing. We make it to the Soft Machine arc. Abbacchio, who has already caught their eye because of how I react every time he's on screen, rolls out his sad backstory, almost kills himself to solve the mystery and Bruno gets all protective and they share that weird moment afterwards yada yada and somewhere towards the end of this my friend turns to me, with what I can only describe with a look of horror on their face and goes "oh no" and I go "oh yeah" and they go "NO" and I go "YEAH" and I short they're very embarrassed but very tentatively admitting that they're going to go home and draw fanart of them now.

btw sry to the ppl who came for fanart and get blasted w all the oc stuff LMAOOO
its nothing new but i fell out of a few fandoms, gnshn mainly. due to all the ongoing drama w hoyogames caused by the fandom over the stupidest things (im not involved or get involved in any of that but it always happened i saw stuff here and there on my tl and its just wow), then all the stupid shit hyv pulled in the past months and get away with constantly, then how extremely time consuming and demanding and repetitive everything became etcetcetc i kinda have issues with playing their games. theres jsut no energy or interest left bc all this above is kinda outweighing anything that made me enjoy it before?
(i still adore a bunch of characters and might draw some again but i really am not sure if i will get into the game itself again. im just tired and nothing keeps me there anymore tbh)
zzz is enjoyable as its v chill on time and the team behind it is a new one so the game is sm more different it rlly doesnt feel like a hoyo game anymore. hsr is also ok tho i dont always keep track w it lately, sometimes i just get a bit bored of it when theres nothing interesting baiting me into finishing story stuff lol
whaaat i mean to say is thats kinda why im not rlly doing much fanart lately??? since there was no major thing that had my constant attention and kept me drawing 1000 things at a time lately. i jump from interest to interest rn when it comes to fandom stuff and draw whenever inspo strikes i guess
rn im going back to old fandoms again and rewatching/rereading/replaying all my most favorite things for some happiness. im currently hyperfixating real bad on my fav animanga once again so i might post some doodles of that or other shows i rlly enjoyed and rewatched, maybe even fate or FF stuff again
i rlly have to say since i stopped actively playing gnshn/spending so much time with keeping up with hoyogames and do all my stuff there every single day, i feel mentally SO MUCH better and suddenly have sm good time to use for other things (also ngl i feel like having to keep up daily w those type of games/playing sm gacha turned me really stupid and impatient over the years)
i even got back to draw OCs and create a new comic again after almost 6 YEARSSSSS of not working on my own stories. im feeling really happy rn, drawing stuff that is not gnshn/hyv related be it my OCs or other things i rlly enjoy like alnst etc (its prolly also another reason why im going back to old, favorite things rn bc i wanna create for everything that is dear to me and i didnt do before bc i didnt have my artblog back then yet)
anw sorry for rambling sm LMAO i guess you can consider this some kind of an update/explanation!! OC art and mixture of hyperfixations, favorite things and whatever im into atm, NOT a gnshn only artist
#i really cant recall if i explained my current problems w gnshn before sry if i already did and repeated myself lol#felt i should explain and whats coming up etc#babbles#tbd#long post

TATMR Rewatch
Saw this post appear on my dash again and felt like rewatching the movie again. Thoughts while rewatching a twenty-four year old film about magic talking trains included below.
Btw, if you want to watch this fever dream for yourself, the whole thing is on Youtube w/ ads:
youtube
Starting off and- hey it's Diesel 10! You remember Diesel 10, right? What a "blast from the past," right? Right?
I miss the hammy, over-the-top New Jersey accent they gave Diesel in this movie. The slimy, manipulative voice they gave him later on is fine, but c'mon, the guy's got a giant claw coming out of his back. There's nothing subtle about him. Give us our big dumb tantruming baby back!
Interesting to see Gordon shake w/ fear after seeing Diesel, considering how much flak people gave the last couple seasons of the show over the engines 'gesturing' w/ their bodies (same w/ Thomas sneezing later on).
The two ends of the universe: Anytown, USA and a remote island off the coast of England (I know its implied that Sodor is part of a separate magical dimension in this movie, hush).
That said, filming in the rustic British countryside really doesn't scream America:
Also what's that line about Shining Time being separated from Sodor by "oceans of time"? Dym like time zones (crossing the Atlantic) or time travel? The show is canonically set in the 50s-70s, afterall.
It's a shame that they didn't use the original Shining Time theme for the introductory shot. Not sure if it'd fit, but it's still a shame. Include it during the credits at least.
Oh, that fish is not having a good time.
Stacy Jones! c:
Billy Twofeathers (wdym he aways looked like that, hush)! c:
S/o to James' androgynous voice in this movie.
Diesel 10 is going to dominate you... sorry.
I know they recut this movie after audience testing, but it is odd having the mystery of the lost engine w/ Burnett's backstory revealed to the audience right at the beginning of the movie, only for it to continue being treated as a mystery by the rest of the cast until the climax.
That said, they still did an admirable job w/ it, considering they cut out one of the main antagonists. There's a few repeated story beats (Burnett and Diesel giving Lady's backstory back to back) and lines that don't quite work (Burnett telling Diesel, the magic talking train, he'll fail bc he "doesn't believe in magic"), but nothing too distracting.
Jumping from that slow, melancholic scene w/ Burnett to Diesel w/ his fucking goofy theme playing is fantastic.
Mr. C Humming the OG theme tune is a really cute touch.
Free Moby Dick!
"Stacy, where did you find this painting?" Mr. C, I'm pretty sure that's a drawing.
I can't get over Baldwin chewing the scenery in this movie, he's just constantly goofing off in front of the camera, picking up and talking to random props. I know all of it is prob in the script, it is a kid's film after all, but its just so silly that I love it.
I like the implication that Burnett was just a kid that Mr. C talked to and chose to entrust w/ Lady's secret, just like all the kids he'd (well, another Mr. Conductor), interact w/ on Shining Time.
Lily! c:
Bluebird! c:
Now there's the America I know! Cars everywhere!
I remember too many of these lines.
The scene w/ the angry painting of Topham calming down each time they cut back to it after Mr. C puts back the hat was and still is the best one in the movie imo.
Lady Hatt's portrait is still just one of the wooden figures lmao.
I have a deep-seated memory of constantly repeating the scene of Mr. C reflexively batting the ball he was just roleplaying w/ out of his hand and scolding it.
Nvm the scene of Diesel busting through the shed wall still goes hard as hell, esp. when Mr. C's magic starts failing (same for all of Diesel's action scenes tbh).
Here it is, the infamous sugar scene:
Also that face. :O
Jesus, why did they put this scene into the movie?
Hearing Stacy say that and start sobbing is genuinely upsetting.
I didn't even notice the railway (sorry, railroad) got replaced w/ a road in this scene.
It's interesting to think about how in the workprint, an older Lily was the narrator, meanwhile Mr. C would still out here constantly breaking the fourth wall by talking straight to the audience.
Very interesting low self-esteem James moment b/w him and Mr. C. It's a shame that isn't explored more in the actual series. James is usually portrayed as vain, not insecure.
Mr. C, you're on a railway. Why are you hiking in the woods to get to a windmill?
Bertie saying "vroom vroom vroom" after every one of his lines is the best decision they ever made.
James: "Mr. C's not at the Windmill. I looked!" Point proven.
Even though they lean into the sick Henry angle, it's nice to see he still has that edge to his personality, at least for two out of three scenes.
Presented w/o context:
youtube
Why does Junior have a Scottish accent? Is he from Ringo's side of the family?
Mr. C is in charge of this entire railway rn and he's just sleeping outside on the fucking ground having an existential crisis.
Hey Lily can play the harmonica! I need to break out mine again and harass people w/ my inability to play.
There he is! P.T. Boomer! I remember reading SiF all the time going over all the scenes left in after they axed that entire plotline like that freeze-frame of Stacy w/ the picture of Burnett, Boomer, and Tasha.
Lady's ghost whistling still works as is, but just imagine hearing it thru out the film w/o that knowledge. Much more haunting.
They did Toby so much justice in this film. Consistently a wise voice of reason that gets his own spotlight moment vs Diesel.
I... I forgot this movie included a version of "Really Useful Engine" in the middle of it.
I know the film was criticized for how much focus it put on its all new human cast, but I actually really enjoy these scenes. Maybe bc they're part of the quintessential Magic Railroad experience.
That said, w/o the inclusion of Boomer, the human plot lacks tension or stakes for much of the runtime. The Sodor plot (thru the character of Mr. C) is doing all of the tension-building for the whole movie. As it stands, there's little reason for an audience to actually get invested in that part of the story as is outside of just liking the characters.
Man, this film's special effects have not aged well.
Oh yeah, Annie and Clarabel only get a single line in the entire movie. :/
Oh Alec finally gets to start acting serious towards the end of the film. It really helps the tension building.
Mr. C: "No he is not a dog. Let's just say he's a puppy in need of a good trainer," while Junior is kneeling in front of him w/ his tongue out panting. I get that it's meant to be a short little gag but wtf is this movie?
It's my favorite character! Tumbleweed!!!
OMG TUMBLEWEED APPEARS IN A SECOND SCENE! I FORGOT ABOUT THAT!
CGI Thomas just out here chilling on top of a cliff in the real world.
Thomas falls down and almost dies and Lily doesn't notice at all.
The smelter's yard continues to be the best set in this entire series. With the lighting turning the steam red it looks genuinely hellish.
Burnett: "Well Lady, this is your shining time too." Hey they said it!
The viaduct collapse scene is so good! It feels so real and weighty. Props to the props department.
Burnett: "Now we'll always remember our shining time together." 🌈🌈🌈
God, this movie is so cute! Really fun watching it again in full some all these years later.
HEY WHAT THE FUCJK IS THAT CREDITS SONG?!?
youtube
HELLO??!?
I've legitimately never heard this before. I must've just stopped watching at the credits as a kid. this movie just ends w/ a 2000s pop dance song. okay. sure.

Recap/review 15.02: “Raising Hell”
THEN: Sam shot God! Welcome to the end. Demon!Jack. Last week's non-scary ghosts or spirits or whatever. Strangely missing from the "Then:" Sam's godhole vision. It's actually a very short "Then." Maybe the episode itself is so good, so crammed full of wonderful things, that the "Then" had to be kept brief to make room for all of it.
Or then again, maybe not.
Now. We're still in Harlan, Kansas. A woman holding a scarf over her nose and mouth sneaks into the forbidden zone, and is startled by a neighbor. Or "neighbor." She's seen Close Encounters and knows the benzene story is fake (but if it was true, lady, I don't think that scarf would save you). And yet she's apparently never seen a horror movie, because the fact that her "neighbor" is silently and creepily staring at her doesn't raise any alarm bells. He stabs her a few times and then smokes out into an old-timey ghost who says "Disembowel. D-I-S-E-M-B-O-W-E-L. Disembowel." Well. Okay. She certainly doesn't look disemboweled, but I'll take your word for it. I mean, you spelled it and everything.
Title card. (BTW, you need to check out this very through breakdown of everything you're missing in the title card. It's fantastic.)
Nighttime. Harlan High School. Sam is large and in charge, but the people are restless. And apparently there are "hunters in the zone." Sam gets everyone's attention and tells them the EPA will be here tomorrow (a lie) and they need to stay out of the zone (the truth) and is adorably befuddled when he asks if there are any questions and everyone raises their hand. He's wearing a huge chain around his neck and, unfortunately, has gone back to the undershirt.

The zone. Dean and Belphagar. Dean's EMF meter is going crazy, and Belphagar says there are spirits about (are they ghosts? souls? spirits?) but they don't like him so they skedaddled. (Do we believe that?) Dean can't believe he's working with a demon again, and Belphagar can't believe he's working with a hunter, and it's the classic buddy comedy all over again. Except it's not a comedy and they're not buddies. (Do I miss Metatron?) He reminds us that his rationale for working with hunters is that he liked Hell the way it was. (Do we believe that?)
There's a fiery blast at the zone border, and even though Dean was facing it and Belphagar was facing in the other direction, Belphagar is the one who points it out and says "escape attempt, eleven o'clock." The bad guys can't cross the barrier, but rock salt can, which is convenient. Dean blasts a spirit away, who I believe is the same one from the "Then" but I can't be bothered to confirm and is relieved that the warding still works. Belphagar expositions that it won't last forever, and these ghosts/spirits/whatever are more dangerous than average. For example, the ghost Dean just shot was Francis Tumbelty, aka Jack the Ripper.
(Sidebar: Okay, I did actually rewind and use closed-captioning to confirm what Jack said, because what I heard was Francis Tomelty. And here's how my brain works: I can't remember my kid's phone number, I can't remember my license plate number, I can't remember to call the guy to fix the garage door opener, but I do remember that musician Sting's first wife was named Frances Tomelty. That's how useless my brain is. But Wikipedia confirms that Francis Tumbelty is, in fact, a Jack the Ripper suspect.)
I know, Dean, I feel the same way.
High school. It's daylight now. The citizens are still restless, someone's wife is "missing," the benzene story is wearing thin (sidebar: I'm still using captions, and they misspelled benzene,) and people are plotting an escape.
Zone. Ghosts/spirits/whatever are gathering in one of the houses. Francis Tumbelty, who does not have a British accent (but it turns out he was born in Ireland but raised in America so okay, I guess someone did their research), informs the group that they were released from Hell by God himself. And all of these spirits know what hunters are. And Belphegar's name is actually Belphegor. Well. So much to learn tonight. Tumbelty says they need to gather the spirits who are still in hiding. And they can break the warding because "Warding is a door, doors have locks, locks have keys." Actually, the analogy I would have used is that warding is a lock but WHATEVER. Their plan is to "make it as ugly as possible for those who stand guard." Well, the ineffective spooky makeup will help.
Outside. Hunters are patrolling the perimeter. Civilians sneak out of the bushes and then walk right down the middle of the dang street. And then meet a couple of very unscary ghosts. Oh no, what will happen?
I don't know, because we cut back to the high school. They found the first woman's body, and Cas thinks they need to tell her family, and Sam's all, can't do that yet, people are gonna panic. They're interrupted by the arrival of Rowena, which was a surprise to me because I covered the guest star credits. Although it shouldn't have been a surprise, since Dean called her for help in the previous episode. (See how useless my brain is?) She pretends to be more interested in Cas than Sam but I'm not fooled.
Sam says "Remember a couple of years ago when we were trying to get rid of Amara," as if that's how the conversation would go, as if that's anything either of them would need to be reminded of. What he really would have said was "You know the soul bomb you made for Amara? We need another one of those."
WHATEVER.
They don't want to use it as a bomb, they just want a way to capture the ghosts. Rowena thinks it would be too difficult, but they're interrupted by someone who tells Sam they have "a situation."
Zone. The situation is that the two civilians are facing down Dean and Belphegor. And apparently they've been standing there long enough for Sam to actually show up at the zone, which is miles away from where he was. WHATEVER. Dean explains that the guy is married to the woman who was D-I-S-E-M-B-O-W-E-L-E-D earlier and came to look for her. (BTW, we're almost 10 minutes in, and this is the first scene with Sam and Dean together.) Sam, in his kind way, tells them they need to go back to the school. Then black goo drips out of their eyes and Dean realizes they're possessed. The whole standing-and-staring part didn't clue him in (WHATEVER) but now he gets it.
Bowlegs! Hair blowing in the breeze! Something for everyone!
Tumbelty appears and tells them if they don't open the warding, the spirits are going to kill these two civilian vessels. The civilians drop to the ground, groaning in pain, and I remember back when the guys would have let the spirits out in order to save two innocent people. Or at least would have been conflicted about it. (WHATEVER.)
However, some unexpected shots ring out, sprinkling the possessed civilians with... confetti? How festive. Tumbelty zaps out and the Winchesters and Belphegor turn to see none other than Arthur Ketch. Who is also a surprise to me. I guess that gig as an insurance agent didn't work out. Dean seems ridiculously annoyed to see him. Ridiculous considering that they were working together fairly recently. (WHATEVER.)
And now, since none of my regular download sources worked out and I'm forced to rewatch on the CW app, I'm sitting through commercials. Like a goddamn animal.
Back at the school. Ketch says he just happened to be in the area when they sent out the call for hunters. Dean's still not pleased. What is his problem? Am I forgetting something? Did they leave on bad terms? His gun, stolen from the BMoL, shoots iron flakes. Which somehow expels the spirit without hurting the vessel. He and Rowena reacquaint themselves, and she holds no hard feelings against him regarding the whole prisoner thing, since he let her escape. Well, you actually bought that escape, Rowena, but okay. There is an uncomfortable level of eyefucking, as least as far as the Winchesters are concerned.
Belphegor shows up and they have to explain to Ketch that Jack is dead and oh, Sam's face, when he says "dead." This is the first time this episode has made me feel anything. Well, anything good. And it turns out Ketch was actually contracted by "an attractive female demon" (seriously, that just means a demon in an attractive female vessel but WHATEVER) to kill Belphegor. Her name is Ardat and I guess she's gonna show up later. Yawn.
At least sad Sammy is good.
Reno? I laughed and said ha ha, I wonder if Amara is here and it turns out she is! (Because, again, I covered the guest stars.) She's getting a massage. Her maseusse is replaced by Chuck, who looks about 10-20 years younger than he did the last time we saw him. (Just for Men. Find it in the men's section.) She's annoyed with his presence. He's rambling. He liked the Game of Thrones ending, which I guess is supposed to signal what an awful hack of a storyteller he is. Or to warn us that we won't like the ending of our own Show. Or both.
High school. Poor Cas has to lie to Restless Citizen #3 that they're looking for the other missing citizens. "You said you'd keep us safe!" the guys says. That cuts deep, man. Meanwhile, Rowena has given Dean a shopping list. She asks him about Ketch, even though, as Dean points out, they've obviously met. "That was more of a torturer-torturee relationship. Fun, but I didn't really get to know him." But Dean doesn't want to play matchmaker, and says she shouldn't get involved with Ketch. "I mean, Sam is right here," he says. "Why don't you guys get off high center and do it?" (No, not really.)
Cas comes up behind Dean, all rumpled and sad and wanting a hug, and he apologizes for "dropping the puck." Dean doesn't want to hear it. He's so very angry, at Cas and at Chuck and at his life being one giant rat maze. Cas doesn't think their whole existence has been a lie, because even though they were in a maze, they were still living their lives in that maze. That's what life is. Chuck sets up the obstacles, but they still run their own obstacle course. Dean doesn't accept this.
It's interesting that Dean is the one who's taking the truth about Chuck so hard. Sam and Cas were the ones who had faith, and you'd think they'd be knocked harder by the realization that there was never a benevolent God. But on the other hand, Sam's so used to being manipulated by outside forces; this is nothing new to him. And Cas has already seen how the sausage is made. So they're both just, yeah, this is how it is, let's deal with it.
However. I'm not feeling the Dean-Cas conflict at all. I don't really care. And I suspect it's going to be a Big Deal. {sigh}
I’m definitely feeling angry Dean. So much.
Zone. Nighttime. Dean and Ketch are on patrol. I mean, I guess it makes sense to leave Chief Sam in charge at the school, but I'm tired of the guys being split up. Dean gives Ketch one of the giant chains they've been wearing, and says it's iron, to prevent possession. Wow, that would be a heavy chain. They talk about God and Rowena, and then Dean gets a text message. "Trouble. Two hunters haven't checked in." Uh oh!
Meat packing plant. Seriously? There is a meat packing plant in the middle of this residential area? So many chains hanging from the ceiling. I wonder what kind of cage flashbacks Sam would have in here. (And if you fic that, I'd like to be notified, please and thank you.) Dean and Ketch search the place and then it gets cold and then Ketch is hurled against a wall. Hard. Lizzie Borden appears, prepared to take an ax to Dean's head, but an electronically altered voice says "Stop! Get out!" She zaps out and we see the voice belongs to... Kevin???
Turns out when Chuck said he was sending Kevin to Heaven, he lied. Um. Why? What's the rationale for this? I mean, he did things to make a good story, but what was the purpose of sending Kevin to Hell and not letting the Winchesters (or anybody else) know? Dean promises they'll get him to Heaven, and Kevin accept this happily, because Kevin knows that Dean always takes care of him, as promised. (Ha.) Kevin can feel the wards weakening, but he doesn't know if the other spirits can detect it. And the other spirits are afraid of Kevin because he was personally cast down by God. Um. Okay. WHATEVER. But this tells Dean they can use him as a spy.
Reno. Chuck is flipping through channels, and he spends a couple of seconds watching a cooking show where the recipe involves tripe. Which is so meta, isn't it?
He's whiny. I'm over it. So is Amara. And she suddenly detects (WHATEVER) that he needs her for some reason. She can feel his own version of the godhole? She pokes at it and it hurts. "Something happened. You're not complete. You're not at full strength."
Zone. Sam doesn't think using Kevin is safe. Well, he's already dead, so. Belphegor shows up and they're all, your wards are failing and he's all, duh, I told you that was happening, I thought you heroes would have this wrapped up by now. (Are they really fading due to the nature of wards, or is this deliberate? Discuss.) And this spell was a one-time thing - he can't do it again. Because...? We'll never know, because neither brother asks. WHATEVER.
This conversation is like some people. Stupid but pretty.
Belphegor knows Kevin and calls him a "whiny millenial" and my goodness, he gets around a lot for a low-level grunt, doesn't he? He tells the guys that Kevin can't get into Heaven because once a soul is cast into Hell, Heaven can't take it. I am quite sure that Show has forgotten about John and Bobby, who both accomplished that very thing, and I'm shocked to find Show actually address this. Belphegor says God made an exception, and that isn't likely to happen again, since God doesn't like them any more. Oh no! The only way to fix this is if someone else takes over for God!
Reno. Chuck checks out his own godhole, which looks just like Sam's. He pokes at it and winces in pain.
Zone. Sam feels pain in his own godhole. Because they're connected! He lies that he's okay and it's getting better and Dean's all yeah, right.
Sam, for a professional liar, you are so bad at it.
Zone. Spirit meeting. They know the wards are fading. Tumbelty thinks they should attack at a weak point, rather than waiting for the whole thing to collapse. Kevin shows up. They all know him, and some fear him. But Tumbelty knows he's buds with the Winchesters. Because all these spirits know the Winchesters. You know, I can understand all the demons knowing who they are. That's justified. But every resident of Hell? I'm not feeling it. WHATEVER.
High school. More heavy flirting between Rowena and Ketch. Somehow Ketch knows something she doesn't know - that a jolt of electricity will fast-forward her spell. Can we just skip this part? It makes as much sense as the Rowena/Gabriel detour when they were trying to open the rift. They're interrupted by a call from Dean, who demands she hurry. Yes, please.
Zone. Rowena shows up with a bag and runs right into Tumbelty. Who knows her. Because they used to date. All this romance for Rowena, and Sam's still sitting alone at the high school. Come on, Ro. Climb that mountain. Tumbelty tells her they've got Kevin, and sends a message for the Winchesters to meet them at their spirit house. Ketch shows up behind him, with his iron confetti gun, and blasts him, but Tumbelty whacks him with a rock. However, Rowena escapes.
{Commercial time. Zombieland 2 looks good.}
TFW is finally all together. Rowena tells them about Kevin. Dean asks if she has the soulcatcher, and for some reason, Sam has a problem with the name soulcatcher. I suppose this was supposed to be humorous. She does, but she doesn't know if it will work.
Spirit house. Winchesters show up. Tumbelty says if they shut down the warding, he won't devour Kevin. They say no. Tumbelty sticks his hand into Kevin, and this takes a really really long time, but Rowena finally shows up with the crystal and catches all of their souls. Boy, it's a good time devouring Kevin's soul took so very, very long. Rowena tells them this crystal isn't as powerful as the earlier version, and can only gather a few souls at a time. In fact, some of the souls here got away. Oooh, I wonder who.
Kevin tells them about the plan to break through the warding at the weakest point. Jump to the weakest point. There are at least 100 spirits there, according to Belphegor, and more are coming. Dean brings his gun up when someone approaches, but it's only Ketch. Oh, good, he escaped safely from Tumbelty's clutches! How fortunate. It's odd that he's no longer wearing that huge iron chain, though.
Dean tries shooting at the spirits they can't see, but Belphegor tells him there are too many. So Rowena goes forth with her soulcatcher. She still seems to be on this side of the warding, which means she's able to drag the souls through the barrier. I wonder if it would have worked better if she'd gone past the barrier. Then Ketch backhands her because, SURPRISE SURPRISE, he's actually possessed. He drips black goo from his eyes, just to confirm, and picks up the soulcatcher. Dean tries to shoot him, but is conveniently out of ammo. Tumbelty!Ketch monologues and then Dean pulls out his handgun and shoots him and he... tosses the soulcatcher to Dean? Drops it horizontally? Somehow, the thing ends up flying into Dean's hand.
WHATEVER.
(Or did Ketch toss it to him once he was depossessed? Discuss.)
Rowena takes it back and sucks up the few visible souls, including Tumbelty's. Yay! Success! Is Ketch alive? Dunno!
Time jump. Ketch is alive, with only a wounded shoulder, and is being loaded into an ambulance. Cas tells Sam that he tried to heal him, but couldn't. "You're just tired," Sam says. "We all are." Oh, I don't think so, Sam. Dean apologizes to Ketch, and lets us know it was an iron bullet, which is why it expelled Tumbelty. Ketch and Rowena exchange a longing glance. Dean stares. Angrily, maybe? Angry that Mary's ex dared to look for love again? Angry that Rowena is flirting with someone else right in front of Sam? Angry that Ketch is such a wuss that he actually needs an ambulance, and medical treatment, for a mere bullet to the shoulder? Angry that he's stuck inside a Buckleming episode? All of the above? He and Rowena exchange an uncomfortable look.
Aftermath! Kevin doesn't want to stay in the zone and hang out with the guys. He knows he can't get into Heaven, so he's just gonna ghost around and wander the earth. Sam tells him this is a terrible way to exist, and Kevin points out that it's better than Hell. And Kevin and Sam give us what might be the motto for just this episode, or maybe for the entire season:
I'm sorry, Kevin. I wish there was some way to make this right.
Me too. But there isn't. And sometimes, you just gotta accept that.
Kevin tells the Winchesters he loves them (d'aw) and they don't say it back (aw) and Belphegor quite easily makes a little opening in the barrier. So easily, that it really makes you wonder why he has so little power to keep it going. Yep, it sure does. Kevin is gone. Sad waves.
Reno. Amara is hitting the road. Chuck isn't invited. And she knows he's too weak to do anything about it. He can't leave this world without her help, and she ain't helping.
Zone. We see dozens of glowing souls flitting about. The warding won't last long. We need a plan B. "How," asks Dean. How indeed.
So. When I watched this for the first time last night, I desperately wanted to fast forward through the scenes with the spirits in the house. And the Ketch/Rowena stuff. It wasn't any better on rewatch. Some of this episode was just the usual Buckleming nonsense - badly written, stupid things happen for stupid reasons, yada yada yada. But the Kevin plot... can we blame that on the Buckleming? Or was that a showrunner master plan? Either way, it's annoying. And probably pointless. The only good thing about this episode was the confirmation of the connection between Sam and Chuck. I noticed a distinct lack of excitement on my Tumblr feed, so maybe a lot of us feel the same way. If you haven't watched this one yet, my vote is: don't bother.
Please help me stay unspoiled, thanks!

I know Regular Show has already ended, but do you plan on doing anything Regular Show related in the near future?
Omgosh! Yes~! I’m not done w/ Regular Show- don’t worry~! *haha
I still plan on making fanart for the finale (and maybe even giving an in depth review as well) but it might take awhile- like, it might even have to wait until next month; which seems like such a long time but in all honesty it’s b/c of a few things:
I’ve finally come to terms with how long it takes me to make certain pieces of art. And like, if it’s the first time I’m attempting something (e.g. semi realistic human anatomy, better perspective, composition studies, different colouring techniques, trying out new mediums etc, etc.) then yeah, my first attempts are going to take me awhile to complete. I’ll eventually get better with more time and practice but until then I’ve gotta pay my dues and just be OK with being slow and taking my time.
I’m also juggling all of this in between life, chores, cooking, cleaning and I’m also trying to make time for other hobbies too (like baking and art journaling 🍪🍰📝🎀💕) so art doesn’t become such a struggle for me like it was last year.
In the past I always put RS first and foremost, especially when it came to fanart and projects and I let so many other things that I wanted to draw just- fall to the wayside and I never really experimented with anything else. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I had a blast drawing Mordeson and all of those other characters but a part of me would always feel kind of sad that I could never make time to draw other things. And like, with me, my passion for certain fandoms and ships gets very intense at first and then after awhile it kind of peters out and once it’s gone then I just, don’t feel like making content for it anymore (or @ least for a long time or I might have moved onto something else- it’s always different) and again, I let so many drawing and art opportunities pass me by over the years b/c I thought I just didn’t have the time but really it was b/c I wasn’t making the time and I also wasn’t being realistic with how long my process can take me sometimes. So this year, I’m making it a point to grab that inspiration when it hits me and just run with it for as long as I can and right now I’m all about Roadrat. I just- love the Junkers and I’ve never drawn characters this detailed before and I’m finally studying human anatomy and perspective b/c of them so it’s like- Win/Win- yay~! 🐷🐭✏️💕 *haha
Valentines Day is coming up and then there’s a fandom event called Roadrat week happening @ the end of the month and I really want to try and participate which means getting started now and it’s gonna involve some planning and just- //HHHhhh////- there’s just so much do and I’m pretty excited. I mean, I don’t know if I’m gonna make the deadline but I’m gonna try.
[More stuff under the read-more 2 spare everyone’s dash]
There are so many new things to consume- like ALL THE TIME these days- it’s nuts. Like, this February alone the new Lego Batman movie is coming out, plus all new SVTFOE and TMNT 2012 episodes and on top of that there’s a lot of old media that I’m rewatching and dissecting (e.g. GITS Stand Alone Complex, Pug Davis) and all of those things take time to properly consume and digest. And NGL, there’s also the urge to make fanart for all of those things too *shrugs*
AND- the last season of RS- just- flew by SO quickly. We didn’t get confirmation that Season 8 was going to be the last until October and then a few weeks later we found out that the Series finale was actually going to happen in January instead of the Fall like it usually does and it actually took awhile to properly sink in. I mean, again, that combined with all of the other things I have to take care of on a daily basis and all of the other things on this list, well- I’m only one person and I can only do so much and I just- wasn’t really prepared in January to make proper content for the RS finale /weeps/
And that’s probably the gist of it- for now anyway. Sorry for the wall of text BTW but this was actually weighing kind of heavily on my mind for the past few weeks. I mean, I LOVE Regular Show and I felt bad that I haven’t made anything for the finale yet but like I said- there’s just so much to do and I want to make time for other fandoms and grow as an artist and just- have fun with my art and not let it stress me out like it did last year.
Thanks so much for the question though and again- sorry for the mini-essay *lmao

"What are you looking for? - the punchline." omg lol I love a show that doesn't take itself too seriously when they don't have to! You were right, this openings are the special kind of pleasure, possibly ones of the best out there))
Agreed. If I recorded my reaction, you would hear one long groan morphing into laughter during every main title sequence. They really crown these intros. I remember one time when he was away, they just filled the spot by going a bit meta, “You know what Grissom would say here.” “Something ironic, I’m sure.” lol
ok, the rest of the asks are behind the cut bc it got long again:
#2.
3x22. I don’t have words. PS I didn’t realize Sara was a forensic psychologist. How the hell did I miss that?! Do I need to schedule a rewatch? HDD PS #2 well it’s nice to at least have an acknowledgement from Grissom that he realizes that sth is going on between them. You gotta figure it out you dummy she’s been waiting for you for years!!!
Maybe I need another re-watch, too, bc I have no memory of Sara having psychologist credentials? I mean, they all have traces of a forensic psychologist in them, but I can’t remember any team member officially holding that title.
That “let’s have dinner” scene… well, the timing is terrible but yes, yet another brief acknowledgment that this connection is not just in Sara’s head, and I love her “I will wait for you to figure it out, but I won’t wait forever” ultimatum. If he weren’t interested, it would be relatively easy to cut her losses and move on, but ofc that’s not the case.
When Grissom is truly scared, he becomes the most ridiculous and irrational version of himself, which just shows how human he is (contrary to popular belief that he is a robot). Remember when he asks Doc Robbins for a second opinion in 323?
Boy, I wish you’d come to me sooner. Your condition’s pretty far along. Why did you wait?I hoped it would go away.Doesn’t your mother have this condition?Yeah. It’s hereditary. … I know. I wasn’t rational.
This is also what he does w/ the “Sara situation”. He feels what she feels, those feelings are progressing, but he has been living within v specific boundaries his whole life, so the implications and consequences and risks terrify him, so for a while he just waits and hopes the inevitable will not happen. But it does. ;)
#3.
OK so I finished s3 and my uni is kicking me in my butt so I might have to slow down a little but for a tease what should I look forward to in s4? Is there going to be some kind of resolution? I mean this burn is *so* slow (a lot of fun though). Also it’s a rare show where I actively root for ALL the cast, not just a few characters, everyone is so relevant, this show will ruin me for other shows lol
I’m right there w/ you anon. They are so well-crafted/well-acted, and even when there is conflict, you can see where each is coming from and why. Now that is rare.
in S4 the burn is still slow, but they start to throw in some quality accelerants + the season is just full of great moments and cases and more puns. You can look forward to the entire season, really. 403 is a heavy but excellent one. 405: furries. 406 is a Grissom special. 407 is where, for a few moments, the slow burn almost sets the layout room on fire, and this is also where the big background question of this season surfaces, i.e. how Grissom’s feelings/fears impact Sara’s career (and yeah, she calls him out again. and again.). 412 is A LOT, it is my big fave in S4, and 413 is just the type of delightful fun (there is a lil’ duct tape and singing involved) we need to ease the mental-emotional toll of 412. 414 loops us back to the officer who threatens Grissom in the 2parter premiere, and it is a case study of professionalism. 416 is yet another excellent one that delves into the world of substance (and various other types of) abuse and also clowns (there really is a nice balance of serious/tragic and hilarious/comic on this show). 418, 419 are again just A+ cases. 420 is where the team enters a marathon and naturally Grissom spots a corpse along the road (from his car while blasting Chariots of Fire bc he enjoys running the same way I do - in theory). And the season concludes w/ GSR handholding, so just going by that single detail you can tell it is an excellent one.
#4.
So I couldn’t resist and watched 4x01. You’re right Sara is getting hotter by the minute! And Cat too. Not that they needed any improvements on that front. And Grissom with that beard, yum. I usually prefer stubble over beard but in this case I could probably swing that way (lol swing, that case was really creepy)
shh, anon. the kids mustn’t know. ;)
Your self-control is about as strong as mine, it seems. I have 3 books and 8 articles to go through this weekend but… yeah. And - generally speaking - I’m not a big fan of facial hair (save me from those pornstaches), but some guys just pull it off in a way that … well, let’s just say it prevents me from focusing on books and articles. thankfully, the only on-again-off-again relationship on this show is that btw Grissom and his beard, and it’s amazing how it can transform his face like in one season he is Bug Boy, in the next he looks like some silvery, centuries-old winter king of some otherworldly realm who was so absorbed in his thoughts, he took a wrong turn and accidentally ended up walking among us humans.

a few goldfinch thoughts
tom cable re: the cigarettes: “yeah my mom blew up over that too” like jesus CHRIST tom did you HAVE to phrase it like that??
when theo rlly talks to pippa fr the first time at her house and the heart guirland on her bedposts frames him like a halo
hobie.........everything abt hobie...... i love
we’re all adopting baby theo. we’re all adopting baby andy. we’re all adopting baby pippa and her post surgery undercut and her damaged little body falling asleep holding a medicine lollipop. we’re all adopting baby boris reacting to hearing the door slam and immediately shifting into protect friend and dog mode. we’re adopting all the babies right now no discussion
i love every single fucking thing about the pool scene it’s probably my favourite of the entire movie. the kids lying next to each other with their heads level and boris’ feet sticking out way further. theo’s secret abt the dreams of his mom. opening up and fucking crying because hes a child and has been through too much and the guilt is consuming him, all the time. boris proposing they swim bc he’s theos only semblance of a support system but hes an equally messed up child and sometimes it just be like that and there’s not much you can do. jumping in the pool. the footage reversal with the water closing over their heads to make the feeling of underwater suddenly disorienting as it triggers a reliving of the bombing. the muffled sound of being underwater/the muffled disembodied sound from waking up after being knocked out frm the blast into a hazy hellscape
i didnt rlly pay much notice to it i just sort of went in to Experience but i get the feeling both diegetic and non diegetic sound design was p fucking good btw? i mean the songs playing both in universe (eg on hobies radio as him and theo are in the workshop together) and tracks as part of the general mood setting sdtk for the audience but also. i get the feeling a lot of sound (eg scenes of theo on the street or @reeve wat the FUCK does that have to do with me?) was enhanced to be even more loud and jarring to reflect theo’s experience of them when he’s in a panicked& heightened state? then again i know i can be kinda sensitive to sound sometimes so idk if that’s like. edited w extra attention or just shit that stood out anyway idk. only afterward i realised i wanted to check if they’d worked in the tinnitus theo mentions popping up like a phantom experience whenever he feels stressed but i forgot to explicitly listen fr it so ill probs take a note of that on a rewatch but like even if they didnt do anything w that tiny detail. im no expert but still feel like the sound design is deserving of some recognition
popper did a great job and i love him
genuine tears when hobie lets theo stay fr as long as he likes, and he won’t get sent away. extremely good fucking shit, i die, im glad this was in the movie the way it was
platt hot
i genuinely thought we were never gonna see the mom’s face but when you do and then keep seeing it and get a sense of completion, things coming full circle and everything’s gonna be okay. god it hits me good. w the book you get the same wholesome feeling of shit being resolved twrds the end but again, to have that extremely good pool scene with theo’s confession abt the dreams and then in the end him finding peace with it and forgiving himself and then you see her face and relive the moments Before and it doesnt really hurt because he’s accepted the snippets of joy in all the pain im. really fucking tender. perfect use of the visual capabilities of yr medium thanks
i feel like the casting was fucking SPOT on btw not just re: kids vs older versions (though that was rlly appropriate still) but in every possible way thank you casting directors and actors great work all round folks
also let me say, moving back n forth in the narrative instead of keeping it chronological? god tier decision
my ONLY critique is that this movie couldve lasted fucking longer. i feel like it’s a perfect adaptation keeping true to the source material but do genuinely feel like the personal experience was enhanced by having read the book (eg the moment of theo getting hit by his dad. it’s jarring. it’s a shock. it’s hard fr actors to portray the subtle language of long term abuse so as an audience member you might think this is the first time this line has been crossed but if you’ve read theo’s thoughts the entire time before, directly leading up to and during this you know he had been expecting the jovial mask to fall off and when his trepidation twrds his fathers friendly attitude is proven valid.. a cold hard realisation confirming the truth theo’s been trying to navigate....... oof). not to be a “uhhh the thicc af book is better than the movie uhh you should read the book” pretentious snob bc it really is a solid adaptation and portrays the flow of events just right but also donnas writing is rully fucking good and shows a deeper subtlety you can’t really translate easily into a movie without reverting to a like straight up narration or smth ya feel. so i do still recommend the book first and foremost and then you can watch the movie with a full understanding
yes i do know this movie is two and a half hrs already i do not care i want it all
in other words i think i just want someone to sit me down and gently read this book to me accompanied with a slideshow of the movie. i want to experience the story in full through any type of media i can get it simultaneously and the movie i welcome with open arms
#the goldfinch spoilers#i liked it it was good thank you#@the critics who got mean shit to say: this is not ABOUT you!! this movie is not FOR you!! it is for ME and for MY FRIEND who LIKED the BOOK
