#havent really decided if i ACTUALLY want to commit or not

been thinking about nulls design a lot lately and i think i want to update the hands a bit. ive been slowly altering nulls design to be more "practical" over the years since the design was originally made BEFORE the context. i wanted to make his hands more paddle/shovel-like without loosing the old silhouette entirely and without altering the finger number, which is an EXTREMELY important detail i do not want to ever change. this is a bit of doodling to figure things out

first one is a completely new design, leaning fully into the more mole-like shape. biggest problem imo was the loss of the thumb. it would be a step BACKWARDS considering it really closely resembles the shape of how i used to draw hands (which is why null specifically had 3 fingers- i used to draw hands ALWAYS with just 3 fingers, i just decided to intentionally keep it with null lol)

second one is the current hand design, three fingers with one acting as a tumb.

last is a "compromise" mix between the current and shovel designs, which i actually like a lot! connecting the pads on the palm and fingers accentuates the fingers while also making it clear that they're partially fused to make them more mole-like, while keeping the thumb. im still going to fiddle with it, but it's promising

Fuck it, pokemon oc info be upon ye

First up we got Atlas

Hes..... somewhere around his mid-20's, i dont know i havent thought about it

He was a normal pokemon trainer on a journey starting from unova going across all the regions, but he ended up joining team skull and sticking around Alola for a long while.

He joined the team just for the hell of it, really, since he thought it would be fun to let loose and cause chaos. (that, and he thought Guzma looked cool..) Over his time in the gang, due to his skills in pokemon battling, he ended up becoming an admin alongside Plumeria.

Atlas specialises in dark types, and his pokemon team includes: an alolan meowth, deino, zorua, malamar and an alolan muk.

I know he looks like he would be smart, but hes actually really really stupid. He threw his common sense out the window when he joined the gang, and now his solution to anything is to 'set it on fire!'. Thankfully, Plumeria keeps him under control and doesnt let him commit arson. He also cant cook for SHIT. He has multiple times almost set the team skull base on fire while trying to cook. (he has since been banned from having lighters, matches, or touching any kind of device that heats up.)

Next up weve got Z / Zee!

She has the intelligence of a 11 year old, as well as the looks of one

Shes not actually human, shes just a zorua that really wants to be human. She grew up watching people go about their days, and found that she wanted to be like that too.

Even though zoruas ability is called illusion, in most of the pokemon media they seem to be able to interact with their surroundings, so i assume its more like transformation. Thats what im going off of here.

Z is mute due to her vocal cords not being equipped for human speech. (going off of the pokemon anime, zoruas seem to not have the ability to talk, but zoroarks do.) Her disguise, however, is near to perfect. She has spent months honing her illusion ability, and managed to mix and match features from people she had seen to make an illusion she was happy with. an illusion she could call herself.

Ever since she got her illusion perfected, she has spent most of her time in it. She lives in the woods by herself, just like a pokemon would, except she sometimes wanders into town to cause some mischief. I havent decided where exactly she lives, but id imagine her to be well known around there.

At the beginning, she would obviously be illiterate and unable to communicate in anything other than gestures and body language, but she does eventually learn sign language! She learns how to read and write as well, but shes not very good at either of those...

While on the topic of Zoruas trying to be human..

Here we have Fuyu 冬! She resides in hisui

She has the intelligence of a 11 year old as well

She is also a zorua pretending to be human, but for different reasons as Z. Fuyu was hoping to infiltrate the towns of people in order to learn more about them, specifically their weaknesses. Like most hisuian zoruas, she holds deep resentment for people.

Her kimonos collar is intentionally the wrong way, because hisuian zoruas are technically undead. Thats why she looks a little lifeless too. I know their illusions dont seem to work the same way as a normal zoruas, but shh..... let me pretend..... let me pretend she can be a real girl..........

Her plan was to learn humans weaknesses in order to kill them all, but unfortunately for her, she got attached to one of them and abandoned her objective. That someone was warden Ingo, because id imagine he wouldnt be as familiar with the legends of dangerous shapeshifting pokemon, and thus wouldnt be too suspicious of Fuyu. Ingo was nice to Fuyu one time, and she was like ''oh. humans can be nice?'' and decided to just follow him around out of curiosity. Long story short, they get to know eachother over time (the best they can with Fuyu being unable to communicate, anyway) and end up having a sort of father-daughter dynamic.

pretty much everyone in hisui is suspicious of Fuyu, but Ingo vouches for her humanity, even after he finds out her true nature.

Last but not least,

Silas!

Hes like..... somewhere in his 30's... he just got really good genes..

Silas is a retired pokemon trainer. He used to travel around the regions but eventually settled down in unova and started up his own little flower shop in Nimbasa. Its a little two tier building, the first floor serves as the store, and he lives on the second floor. Hes the only worker there, if his pokemon dont count. He was born in Alola, but soon embarked on his journey at the ripe age of 12 like most other trainers. His first Pokemon was actually his phantump, but he kept it secret from professor Kukui because he wanted to get a rowlet. (he got one)

By the time he settled down and started the flower shop, his Pokemon team consisted of; his Phantump named Thumpy, a Decidueye named Cider, a Shuppet named Doll, a Morelull named Marianne and a Petilil named Lily. He likes small pokemon, so most of them arent evolved.

Hes quite introverted, and has a sort of gloomy aura about him. His voice is soft, airy, and quite hard to hear. He pauses mid sentence often, and his way of talking is quite creepy to a lot of people. He looks quite uncanny when he smiles, even though he doesnt intend to, thus he often scares off customers…. phantump always floating over his shoulder doesnt help... Overall, despite his pretty face, his behavior makes him seem quite weird to normal people.

i mean its like an infinitely rich wellspring if you know how to tap it. the nature of growing up in a world you're only just beginning to understand and the existential threats posed by new information, cultural notions of childhood, the types of childhood that get codified by Media Aimed At Children vs. the complicated and varied reality; the various mechanisms through which children are implicitly and explicitly forced into an oppressed position... there is much to consider if you decide you want to tell a story through Children's Media But Fucked Up. but i don't often see it happening.

i feel like the works that clear the "pure shock value" bar but still miss the mark for me tend to enter the territory of some kind of lamentation, where the unsettling and dark aspects of the work exist as a means of "confronting the difficult realities of life". it's sort of a feeling of, "i wish someone had prepared me for this," while also often lacking a good answer for why that never happened or how it might be possible to be prepared for these things. some works can ask questions without posing answers, but i feel like a lot of these works feel incomplete. i suppose if one wants to go this route i would be interested in a deeper exploration of the confusion and disappointment that is brought about by these things; not just letting your inner child speak up about their pain but actually dissecting (and maybe healing, who knows!) some of it

also there's a whole sidebar about whether the creator (in the real world) wishes to consider the intentions and experiences of the fictional creators of the fictional story. considering things like who operates the puppets, who writes the scripts... those can elevate a work i think. i havent been keeping up with Welcome Home due to it developing something of a cursed nature + me hating to do ARG business but it seems like the author considered these elements and that's something i appreciate.

i also think you can go on the flip side and fully commit to the work being "creatorless", in the way that as a child things magically come to you fully-formed without you really considering how it was made. that perceived contextlessness is inherently eerie and i think a lot of people tap into it without fully realizing.

there could even be something compelling about slowly realizing that there IS a creator, that there IS intent, that this isn't a little autonomous terrarium but in fact a planned and executed project. who knows! it's free ideas!

one other thought i have is that a lot of creators don't actually seem that invested in the reality of children's media and seem to rely mostly on their nostalgic recollections, which could be an interesting avenue if it weren't seemingly the dominant paradigm. i feel like the outcome is that there seems to be little to no attempt at replicating anything other than the most basic hallmarks of the "genre"; it's like the children's-media-facade is just window-dressing for the "fucked up" part. i think that's silly. taking a little more time to research (whether rewatching things you used to like or seeing what's new) can allow you to more strongly wield the specific and notable trappings of the genre. in that way, you can better integrate the horror with the more cute or comforting parts.

time for a star trek update. sunday we watched ds9's "dax" and tng's "tapestry," and last night* we watched ds9's "the passenger"

i feel like we sorely needed this episode bc we havent gotten much out of dax yet, except for how she (he? to refer to the old one right) and sisko fucked twins together or something (and good for them)

i like the ethical questions it presents. IS jadzia responsible for crimes curzon committed? she both is and isn't the same person, but who she is can't be split down the middle, so how can you be fair to both halves?

WWWILD that people fight for the honor of being possessed by a worm. i think that sounds horrible. not everyone has to agree with me, of course

i like whatever sisko and dax have going on. "you used to be way older than me and my father figure and we fucked twins one time but now you're a SUPER hot young woman who i both know very well and also don't know at all and one time you touched my face oh So gently." like, what the hell was that, firstly, and secondly, he can't even decide if he's attracted to her or not. the upshot of it all being that if jadzia was only jadzia she would, hilariously, be way too young for him

kira didn't have much screentime in this episode but i like when she and sisko instantly and nonverbally worked out that she was gonna be a shit about bureaucracy simply to get dax's ass out of the frying pan. and she smiled the whole time she did it!! i love i love i LOVE that she smiles when she's angry. one hundo percent my fav thing about her

they didn't exactly answer any of the questions they set up in this episode bc dax got off on a technicality (didn't do the murder) but i kind of like it better that way. like, you really CAN'T answer where dax ends and jadzia begins, that's the point of it. if i was ranking ds9 characters from most to least favorite (adn trust me i WILL get to that), dax would probably be near be near the bottom, not bc i don't like her but because usually she's very closed off and not interesting, but this was fascinating af. good for her

firstly, q didn't add anything to this episode. like he didn't save picard from danger, or affect change in any way whatsoever. picard coded but lived. that's the exact same thing that would have happened had q not interfered. so what did he even do that for? normally he gives a reason even if it is a bad one but this time it's ???

way too few moments of q wanting desperately to fuck picard while picard wants desperately to be away from him bc he a wretched little man. i bet he watched picard fuck that girl though

which by the way is sooo weird. she's too young to be kissing sir patrick stewart, love and light

the story picard told about getting stabbed to wesley was actually one of the cooler moments of that episode, but seeing it acted out, especially by the actor who played young picard, made it...less cool. sir patrick stewart did a better job because he's sir patrick stewart, but i was so done with the episode by the time we got there that i didn't care

what was the message of this episode exactly? it's dumb to have regrets? you should always get into bar brawls that can kill you and you're a bad friend if you don't do it? don't attempt to initiate a romantic relationship with a girl you've been crushing on who has stated that she likes you back? picard's like "hey maybe we shouldn't provoke these guys who can kill us over a fucking game" and suddenly everyone in his life thinks he's a bad person?? like he was afraid for his life and his friend was just bulldozing over all his concerns THAT GUY is a bad person. not picard?? for once??

anyway, i haven't decided if anyone in ds9 is my specialest little princess yet but odo, sisko, and kira are currently my top contenders.

ok im jumping off that tangent to think about how heavily ace attorney plays into themes of facades & masks. like its the part I most love Kristoph for but now I'm thinking about it, the motif is everywhere. in Dahlia, of course, as she also presents a soft, delicate side that hides her cruel interior (although she is less insufferably polite and moreso just self-infantalising which is why I never really latched onto her as I did Kristoph), but also in Godot/Diego, who. literally wears a mask. but also conceals his reasons behind why he hated Phoenix, how his mask showed not only that but also how he was unwilling to face his past, unwilling to forgive, unwilling to let go and accept what happened, happened.

Which tf character is your favorite in terms of personality?

Well obviously there's my man Store Bought Ice Cream. He varies so much across every continuity and yet I love each and every one of them. From devious scheming gremlin to noble warrior who needs a hug to fucked up guy who commits various atrocities. The bot's got range! He is such star much screaming <3

Bayverse Crosshairs is also fun. While I do like bayverse to an extent, it is a very immense compliment to say a character has a definitive personality in that universe lmaoo. But yeah Crosshairs there is so fun, I love his morally dubious nature and constantly having to be kept an eye on. Not to mention he's just an overall badass. Him, Hound, and Drift almost tricked me into rewatching TLK ahjsdk

Beast Wars and Armada Megatron are also very very fun! Yesss, their suaveness is so funny and I love how simultaneously badass and hilarious they can be. Beast Wars Megan is so dramatic, I'm still losing it over him wearing a wholeass judge wig just to decide if he should kill a traitor or not ahsjdkfg.

Armada Megan is also incredibly fun and is actually my favorite meg so far. He's got THE BEST design of all the megans and this weird complexity you wouldnt expect from first glances. it ultimately comes down to lack of context. like... it really does. because as i said otto and corlys are functionally similar but we're given far more context for corlys. especially emotional context. and criston killing joffrey was like... at least a little bit more justifed than daemon killing rhea but people treat them as similar occurances because of the lack of context. if i point out daemons a murderer people bring up criston and joffrey and like, whatever, murder bad and all that, goes without saying, but joff was Really pushing it going up a guy he didnt know and kinda threatening him by saying 'i know a secret that would get you dishonoured and executed if it got out'... that was not very smart. and we can see how it suddenly all seems to have gotten out of cristons control so he goes a bit crazy with fear and shame, kills a man in public, and then immediately goes off to try and commit suicide? this is a man in fucking crisis lmao.

whereas daemon just decided rhea had become too inconvenient and had to die - and unlike joffreys murder it was totally premeditated. but as often is the case in this show the consequences faced (in this case those of a white cloak taking the virginity of a princess) werent made obvious (especially since criston so readily admitted his indiscretion to alicent just before this) and so criston could be seen as completely over the top in his reaction to joffrey later on? ...but it was his entire life and legacy being threatened yet again. like im not excusing it, but his reaction is not as disproportionate as people like to imply - at that moment joffrey represented the possibility of losing what little he still had left.

this is a problem the greens face time and time again. there just isnt enough explained about how this world is stuctured, so they often look like their fears are unfounded. for example the laws around bastardry arent made clear at all. i dont think people understand that if alicent had accept for helaena to marry jace... if he was later declared to be a bastard then any children they had together would also be illegitimised. and thats just one of the better outcomes alicent could have hoped for... i still cant quite fathom why she was framed so negatively for protecting her daughter? they never even let her vocalise that she would be afraid for helaena; they let the audience believe shes bastardphobic for no good reason she just wanted be a bitch.

i think they've admitted they are going to try and balance the scale more next season. whatever that means. but idk if they actually understand what the issue is with the writing so far thats making it all skew so heavily in favour of rhaenyra's contingent. im worried they'll try to make the greens more superficially sympathetic instead of investing in storylines that flesh out the world around them and show why the greens actually have very legitmate fears and desires.

the aegon thing is definitely a problem... i havent seen the og quote so correct me if im wrong but i think TGC said something about it undermining aegon's character to make him a rapist because very few will want to invest in his growth over the series after that. and... yeah. agreed. i have so many criticisms of the way they dealt with aegon, not least because its just kind of insulting to the audience to make that kind of person rhaenyra's competition, as if the audience needed to be so heavy-handedly manipulated in one direction. i still hope we're going to see some extreme evolution from aegon but ultimately even if we do its always going to be bit overshadowed by these early decisions.

How did you decide on Arsay's romantic partners? Did it happen as you played or did you plan in advance based on spoilers/osmosis/etc?

OO thanks for asking! I will be rambling about this haha It was a little bit of a mix tbh! I saw cute g'raha tia art on my TL all the time but aside from knowing he at some point gets covered in crystals, I had 0 sense about what his character was. I just really loved his character design and I was ready to play the whole game just to meet him! I was pretty much blind about everything in the game aside from seeing character designs via fanart. (the MONTHS i spent thinking people were rting master xehanort fanart... smh) My friends were adamant about not spoiling things for me either so I was able to come across things naturally and form my own opinions on the characters! I did instantly love G'raha the moment he showed up during the CT raids but I was actually on the fence about shipping Arsay with him for a long time!! He was always there in the back of my mind but I was waiting for some other character to come in with the steel chair and become the blorbo that I never expected to love. Unfortunately all the male characters that I could potentially throw at Arsay were too dead, had a shitty personality/gone from the msq for way too long, or get table scraps of content which I didn't really feel like dealing with this time around. (> had just came out of a years long stint of making content for myself for side characters iykyk) I was legitimately hetcomp-ing Arsay which is insane of me!! smh at my past self. Y'shtola was literally running at me, chair in hand, ready for the knock out. I have no plans whatso ever to ship Arsay with her. At MOST I thought they could be friends. Me shipping them together was absolutely a product of slowly going through the game, figuring out Arsay's character, and realizing how perfectly it compliments Y'shtola's. Y'shtola was coming across as the type to keep walls between herself and others, meanwhile Arsay was becoming the silly bean who does not know what personal space is. It was the perfect grounds for a "bright character lights up the moody character's life" situation!! And so I thought, "well Arsay's still waiting for g'raha (maybe??) but her and shtola can at least be besties!". But literally any time I put them next to each other all I could think was that they both are in love and are too dumb (arsay)/stubborn(shtola) to do anything about it. Arsay wormed her way into y'shtola's heart and Y'shtola became someone who Arsay always looked forward to seeing.

I really did need to know everyones vibes in ShB before I could make the final choice of what to do wolship wise. I herd that a lot of changes happen in that expac and I was worried the characters would no longer be compatible. I also did not realize the exarch shows up IN ShB and not in the ShB patches. (my friends kept saying G'raha comes back in 5.3, I did not realize they were being very specific in the language there haha). It was the day after I finished the greatwoods section in ShB that I was actually like "oh Arsay has been going through it I think she needs a girlfriend in these trying times" and pulled the trigger on that front. I had already been teasing the idea to some degree but didn't want to make it official right away. I half wrote a "Arsay finally figures out she's in love with her best friend actually and panics" fic. I still havent finished it since incredibly brilliant me decided that her confidant through all that turmoil would be Urianger and writing his dialogue requires knowledge of Shakespearean english that I do not posses.

I did kinda put myself in a corner cause then I had to figure out what to do about G'raha now. I still hadn't fully committed to any prior romance between them in the CT raids so it wasn't like that was an issue. however, as I continued to play through ShB I knew I couldn't not ship Arsay with him too. He was WAY too in love with her. They had WAY too much synergy together. THANKFULLY she has two hands and its not uncommon for Miqo'te to have multiple partners. I don't generally do OT3 or poly shipping myself, but for my catgirl to be the happiest she needs both of them in her life! And I'd like to believe she would make their lives happier too! The three of them all have their own experiences with loneliness and isolation, it warms my heart to imagine them finding a forever family in each other!

tl;dr: I was tweeting "who can I possibly ship arsay with 🥺" twice a week for 9 months despite in my heart knowing the answer and just waiting till I got far enough in the story to confirm things could work out.

any advice about how to read more <3?

hi hello bab!! i do have a little bit i think!! it is something i was actively working on last year once i decided to get back into reading so there were a few things that worked for me but might not work for everyone but!!

if you havent read anything in a while and are trying to find the willpower again i think reading some short books to start with is really helpful and rewarding because its not too much to take on and it wont take long but by the end youve still. read a whole book and gotten to enjoy a whole story!! and to start with i think that was really valuable in getting me back into it because before that id try to start reading again with these big bricks of a book and it was easy to just. lose interest and give up again. and then obviously once youre back to reading more regularly its easier to commit yourself to longer books xx

also i found. building like a decent-length 'to-read' list was really fun and got me excited about reading again. i use storygraph to log the things i read and keep track of them (my memory is terrible) and while i know people have pointed out b4 the danger of apps like that leading to you. reading for the sake of meeting a goal/saying you read x amount of books in a year or whatever. i actually just find i really useful and fun to document things i read which i would definitely forget otherwise. i use it to keep track of books i see that id like to read and not only was it fun to. collect names of books that i think id enjoy but also knowing that i had a lot of books i was excited about lined up helped me to keep reading consistently from book to book rather than finishing one book and then thinking uhh i have no idea what i want to read now.

and then finally in terms of. reading regularly/making it more of a habit i just try to devote a bit of time to it every day!! i use public transport nearly every day so i read at those times, and often ill just read for like. half an hour in the evening with a cup of tea which is very nice and relaxing xx just setting some time aside which is definitely easier said than done sometimes but also is easier to do if i am excited about what i am reading and actively want to read more of it!! i think this is mostly what helped me get back into it after quite a long stretch (talking years) of not really reading anything outside of what i was required to for my englit course so. hopefully something here is at all useful!! have fun bab!! <3
