Here is the list of horror/thriller-esque movies from the last decade that y'all helped me create. I added an honorable mentions section for movies suggested that didn't fit the timeframe. I can't wait to go back and rewatch some of these (I can't believe I forgot about The Perfection), and check out some of the ones I haven't seen yet! I added the movies as a couple of screenshots to save space, but I'll also add the text version under a read more. Happy watching!

Alien: Romulus was a blast. Not only was it a solid entry into the Alien Franchise, but it was also a solid piece of sci-fi filmmaking completely independent of the films that came before. Which is to say that it was one of the best science fiction films I've seen all year, and I watched all 3 Alien "prequels" in the space of 12 hours yesterday.
Alien: Romulus already had a tricky tightrope to walk being a sequel following up two Scott Alien films, it's actually a timeskip movie, taking place in between Alien and Aliens, which poses its own problems, chief among them being "the shock of seeing multiple xenomorphs in Aliens is significantly downplayed if you were to watch these according to the series chronology and not numbered by release." Yet it pulls it off.
Where the previous two films were distinct departures from the Alien "feel" (Prometheus' being welcome, Covenant's less so) of steam and vents and grime and tennis shoes, Romulus brings us back, and does so in style. We get the cassette futurism back, we get the CRTs and clacky buttons. It feels like a cinematic DLC for something like Alien: Isolation and this is a very good thing.
More importantly, the story was strong. A girl and her synth board a derelict space station in search of components that will get them offworld and away from their Weyland Utani (a company it feels like I've done consulting for) corporate mining world. It's got heart, it's got fun antigrav physics, and they bring back the pulse rifle instead of those stupid looking M4 variants the colonists in covenant were using.
Something I've felt about every Alien movie is that each film takes a unique look at how different slices of society survive the Xenomorph (and by extension, the real monster of the film: HR Reps). The first film is about space truckers, the second about the military, the third about factory monks watching over a distant prison. In the prequels we have archeologists and space colonists. In resurrection it's Winona Ryder apparently but I haven't seen that one. The point remains, no matter the quality the films always have an interesting angle they approach the Xenomorphs from, and I appreciate that.
Plus, if "intergalactic scrappers fighting for survival on a doomed space station" doesn't sell you as a premise, I'm not sure what will. Go watch Alien: Romulus

The Barkimedes Isekai AU continues
Tumblr media
I HAVEN'T WATCHED THE NEWER EPISODES YET BUT I WANT MORE BARKIMEDES CONTENT
Honestly, I have SO MANY IDEAS ABOUT THIS AU but I've been busy and kept forgetting to draw them so here's this for now
I couldn't decide if he would either be utterly terrified at G1 Romulus or be chill with him. Knowing him it would definitely be the second one but to be fr Romulus would be intimidating as hell (DUDE LOOKS 30 AT A HIGH SCHOOL).
Though with Howleen, definitely would become friends with her no doubt. Probably the most familiar face to him and probably teaches her to skateboard.

okay quick update on the stuff i'm working on for my website for october (i'm writing this while i take a break from editing my 3.2k word review of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice because damn that's a lot of words to keep looking and tweaking at over and over again).
for those not in the know, i have a (wordpress) website where i post my poetry and movie reviews. near the end of this post, i've made a list of future non-Halloween-related projects i have started working on and intend to finish, so i ask you to peruse that list and see if there's anything there of interest.
firstly, i'll go over my october/Halloween-related posts.
things i've finished writing and have scheduled to post:
-a review of Alien: Romulus (which will be going up on tue 1st october) -a review of Coraline (which will be going up fri 4th oct)
things that i have started writing, have yet to finish but am fairly confident i will finish in time for october:
-a review of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice -a review of Speak No Evil (2024) -a review of Imaginary -an essay about bigfoot found-footage horror movie Tahoe Joe
things that i still need to start but hope to post in october:
-a review of MaXXXine -a review of A Quiet Place: Day One -a review of Abigail -a review of The First Omen -a review of The Substance
things that i would have liked to post in october but will work on when i'm not under time pressure:
-an essay about Ghostwatch (i will be rewatching it in october so i'm hoping that once i've seen it again i'll be able to make some more progress with the essay) -a ranking and review of the Paranormal Activity movies (i'm going to do a full rewatch of the Paranormal Activity movies in october to celebrate Halloween, but i don't think i'd want to compromise the depth i want to go into for the sake of releasing it in october)
seeing as there's a lot of horror movie-related stuff i want to write, it's not like october will be the only time of year that i post anything to do with horror. the main reason i decided to focus on horror for october is 1. so that i can have a month with a regular posting schedule after posting sporadically for the past several months, 2. so i can have enough horror-related posts that i might attract some potential loyal readers who would be interested in my horror opinions as well as my non-horror opinions, 3. it'll be fun to focus on horror stuff for Halloween and will be my way of celebrating the holiday outside of watching a horror movie every night. i'm aiming to get a post up every tuesday and friday in october, but if i end up writing enough, i'll post on sundays, too.
as well as movie reviews of movies i've been to see at the cinema this year, my website also has my poetry and a couple of essays/articles, one about Gonzo, Muppets from Space and being nonbinary, and one about Heartstopper season 2.
beyond the posts i want to release in october, there are some other things i will resume working on after Halloween. these include:
-a ranking and review of every Hulurama episode (so far) -a ranking and review of The Land Before Time movies (from someone who's got a soft spot for them) -an essay/article about Penelope Featherington -an essay/article about anthology episodes in adult animated sitcoms -an essay/article about Carol Ann Duffy's poetry collection the World's Wife -other movie reviews (some that i've started include Robot Dreams, Barbie and Argylle)
i might also use my website to post about my original fiction projects, but i haven't actually made much progress with any of those beyond jotting down some ideas, so i'll consider that when there are actually updates to make.
if any of that sounds interesting to you, i'd really appreciate if you checked out my website. i've worked really hard on the writing i've done for it and i will continue to work hard and improve. i'd also appreciate if you reblogged this post if you have any mutuals who might be interested in reading and keeping up with the stuff i write.

Random update on my journey to become a pretentious film buff:
I've been trying to push for a movie a day, at least. Sometimes two if I'm lucky. Sometimes none if I'm lazy. But after my last post where I watched the entire Alien Franchise (sans AvP and Romulus), here's what I've been watching:
Psycho: Yes, I finally watched the original Psycho. To be honest, I've always had a problem watching older movies, so I was surprised at how easy it actually was to watch this one. It was pretty good, though perhaps for the wrong reason. I was honestly laughing through most of it over just how bad these people were at committing crimes and getting away with them. Like that girl was acting so incredibly sus in front of that cop for no good reason. Anyways, 4/5 stars I guess (I'm using Letterboxd to keep track of this).
X & Pearl: In case you don't know, those are two separate movies but they're related via the main character. I watched X first, and Pearl second. Not sure what the intended order of it actually was though, but whatever. It wasn't too bad in that order. Both I thought were pretty good, though I kind of preferred X to Pearl because I thought the "antagonist" motivations in X were...let's just say unique. I can't recall a time where I've seen that particular motivation used. I gave X a 3/5.
Pearl was still pretty good, I just liked X better. Unless you're an idiot like me, the connection between these two movies is pretty obvious, but it tripped me up at first so I didn't wind up understanding it until the very end. Anyways, this movie's good. 3/5 stars (these are arbitrary lol).
Boy Kills World: The one and only non-Horror movie I watched recently. I'm not exactly trying to focus on horror, it's just sort of accidental at this point. I'm in a horror mood so I'm just bingeing horror movies I haven't seen. I swear I watch other stuff too lol.
Anyways, this movie was about as good as one could probably expect it to be. It's just a cheesy, dumb action flick. The plot is middling, but it works. The plot twist is alright. I didn't see it coming exactly, but I also wasn't like "omg no way, what!?", it was just a thing that happened, ya know? Overall, I think my only criticism is that it felt like it was missing a second act. Bill Skarsgard is insanely nice to look at throughout the entire movie though so that's a plus. 3 1/2 stars.
Brightburn: I'm gonna be honest, I didn't care for this movie. It tries to go with the whole "bad guys win" ending that, to me, just fell flat because I don't really give a shit about the bad guy. I'm not sure if I'm meant to feel for him inherently because he's a child, but he's a pretty boring as fuck child so I wound up not caring when he inevitably won. 2/5 stars.
Smile: This movie was OK, but it really felt like that scenario when someone asks to copy your homework and you tell them to just change a few of the details. The one who's homework they're copying of course is It Follows. They have very similar premises, only instead of the monster passing through sex like a shitty STD, this monster passes through trauma like a shitty ex. Personally, I think It Follows did it better. 3/5 stars.
The First Omen: The last on this update, I just finished this right before writing this and it was alright? So, perhaps controversially, I've yet to see The Omen (watching it literally as I type this) so this movie didn't do much for me. I understand it's setting up The Omen though, so that's where the supposed payoff is, but I personally think movies should be able to stand up by themselves, even if they're connected to a franchise, and I'm not sure this one does.
This movie left me confused. It focuses hard on this young girl, leading you to believe she's vitally important and you reasonably assume she's the key figure or "MacGuffin" in this movie, only for us to find out that she's not, and it's actually the main character who's the important one. But then I'm left wondering why I spent the last hour and a half of this two hour movie focused on a red herring.
Not to mention, there's a lingering question I had by the end when everything is burning down which is... if y'all have the actual fucking Devil chained up in your basement as your demonic sperm donor, why the fuck do you need the antichrist so bad?
I'm also just kind of curious about their overall motivations here. Like, we're told that they belong to a different sect of the church who believes that they need to make bad things happen so that more people are drawn to the faith, which at face-value I'm like okay cool, reasonable motivation I guess. But then what is the plan with the antichrist then? They have him get raised by some well-off politician (to set up the Omen) but then what? Presumably you intend to kill him at some point? Is the idea to let him get powerful enough to show everyone he's the legit antichrist, but not so powerful that he doesn't wind up destroying the world like he's meant to? It's just confusing is all, I don't know. Hopefully the Omen explains it. Or the Omen II. Or III. Or IV lol. Anyways, 3/5.

Title: Cuteness Member - Fuse V4
Hello, November. Here’s another pay commission artwork for my friend, Romulus907.
• Thanks with the trailer released of "Gundam Build Metaverse" (which, I haven't watch, yet or their recent "The Witch from Mercury"), Fuse's armor (as well as his uniform changed) upgraded with few parts from "Shin Burning Gundam" into a full blazing glory! 🦾🦿 Fuse's armor calls it, the armored "G-God Burning"! 🔥🤖
His information is still ongoing, so, I'll update my post when he posted...
BTW: • #1: Its been a while, since I've made a commission for Romulus was on July of this year. • (and) #2: Also, he asked me to trace this pose from one of his custom gunpla shots from (now defunct) "Gundam Breaker Mobile" rather than my sketch style, but hey, this is what "Cuteness Defender" looks like than before (say from 2008).
Well, that’s all for now.

Hello, hope you lovely ladies are well! Putting this question to you and your followers: I try to watch at least one new-to-me horror movie for Halloween every year, and I'd love some suggestions!
I have watched a fair bit but I'm sure there's still some good stuff I haven't seen. I'm open to everything except t*orture p*rn/anything super-gory and violent. But ghost stories, creature features, vampires, werewolves, non-supernatural horror, it's all good! Thank you!!
Ooooh I love this topic and I don’t think we’ve talked spooky movies this fall yet! I haven’t had a chance to watch an horror yet this fall, but I’m hoping to catch Alien Romulus soon and the new movie Hold Your Breath on Hulu. The premise sounded really interesting! Have you seen No One Will Save You on Hulu? I watched it last year and thought it was pretty good. The one drawback was the really bad CGI, but I remember thinking if they would have nailed the look of the alien down better it would have been scary AF in a lot of parts. I did watch The Watchers recently after reading the book, and didn’t enjoy the movie much at all in comparison to the book🦎

Journal of Peeta Mellark-Peeta tries out wrestling
October 8th 75 ADD
Coin has placed new restrictions on "edible frivolties" the cartel is In negotiations with coin on cake as our newest product. She will allow the cartel to sell 20 cakes a month. Making those cakes is me, we haven't had any orders yet.
Haymitch declined a job as a siphoner in our cartel but he likes our morphling cakes. He is a great customer he is thinking of ordering a cake! Haymitch also spends time in the den.
'Haymitch was involved with the cartel?" Katniss immediately thinks as her face shoots up, she is amused by this. She knew about it before, began seeing Haymitch in the den, he also saw Haymitch with Morphling. She didn’t bother to try to make him sober again. Not only that Effie also began smoking Morphling.
I am making a new plant book for the cartel, of different types of morphling in the forest. They have a 25 year old plant book but the couriers want an update to it. More then happy to give it to them,I haven't drawn any plants before as far as I can remember.
Katniss remembers watching Peeta draw the plant book it reminded her of the way Peeta was before and she shed a few tears silently watching watching the mutt that replaced Peeta draw as if he is Peeta. Yet I watched so as to enjoy the memories of Peeta drawing the plant book.
I am going to try out a new hobby, wrestling, in District 13 there is a wrestling center in the training wing, I have plenty of time so going to try out on Monday. As a Mutt, wrestling should come naturally to me and I vaguely remember doing it in the past. I want to crush and smash and beat people up. In my first day someone tries to taser me and it feels like I'm being tickled I laugh and say it tickles. I pick him up and he is screaming like he is about to die. I throw him to the other side of the rink and put my foot on him he is screaming. After 10 seconds pass he is allowed to leave. I scare people and it feels good. They say I sound like a mix between a capital mutt and a career from district 2.
Useful memories re-emerge of my past as a wrestler. Me fighting with Rye, me fighting with Phineus, my wrestling with Hersh, Than, Bowl. My combat with Cato and Brutus. My attempt to kill Dr Jones my successful murder of Harry Thread, Romulus Threads demented brother in the capital. When the capital tried to have me prostituted I swiftly snapped the necks of of my would be 'clients'. I killed an entire family of such scum they came to the room, I killed the dad, then ripped the moms head off all in front of their teenage son who began crying and was evacuated by peacekeepers. Many avoxes did not go down without a fight many killed their masters after Snow's announcement and I saw many mutts killed by avoxes. I tried to choke Katniss. It's not desperation or human nature or whatever crap Snow said deep inside me I was always a murderer. Its time I put my repressed violence to use for the rebellion.
Katniss is sure that with all the other stuff Peeta is dealing with Snow’s attempt to traffic him like Finnick got overlooked. But how could Snow be so stupid as to attempt this. Or was he? Snow wanted to test the lethality of his mutt and used this capital family as test subjects
Here is my schedule
At 8:00 I meet with Plutarch until 9 pm, at 10 pm I begin painting some bottles and work for the victors cell continues until 4 pm or even 6 pm. Then in the evening I aid with the combat training of rebels. Lunch is at 7 AM, and I wake up at 630.
Work is often just as effective escape as morphling is, like with morphling I've become addicted to working and I love feeling useful

going to the cinema is one of my greatest joys in life atm i literally can not function without going at least a few times a month (im going bankrupt if u cant tell 😞)
the price of cinema tickets are getting too much tho its not even funny anymore guys
im going to see alien romulus with my dad later bc it's literally one of the only somewhat decent looking films left that i have yet to see bc i REFUSE to watch deadpool and wolverine, sorry to all the marvel fans out there but it is not for me 😔 my stepdad wanted to go see it with me but i got out of it and now i've gone to my dad's and he wanted to watch it too so i redirected him to the alien one instead bc i would not be able to cope in that cinema for that long with nothing but a marvel film in front of me. then again idk how much better alien romulus will be bc i've never really watched any of the previous films from the franchise but we'll see.
i watched avengers endgame and black widow in the cinema when they came out and i literally forced myself to go to sleep out of boredom.
once again sorry to any marvel fans but your allowed to have your own opinion on it ofc, it's just not my thing
anyway summer is pretty much over now but i haven't started school again yet so im literally on a movie grind rn while i still have time yk so if anyone has any recommendations pls pls pls do tell me 🙏🙏 and not just the same 4 films everyone recommends i need smth good and different that in ur head u know for almost definite barely anyone has seen cuz yk im all up for obscure and underrated movie recognition by all means

A movie you haven't seen yet 👀
any movie?! I only have 2 on my 'to see in theaters' list currently so...
Alien Franchise
never seen | want to see (Romulus) | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great (1 + 2) | favorite| masterpiece
I watched the original Alien last year and really liked it! Awesome sets and effects and monster design. Wasn't really gonna watch any more until I saw the trailer for the new Romulus movie... I like the body horror 😳 so I went back and watched Aliens and liked that too! Again, awesome sets and effects and monsters. Tbh I don't plan on watching any more Alien franchise movies after this new one. I will be satisfied as long as I get some truly horrific visuals. ^_^
Beetlejuice
never seen (original) | want to see (the 2nd one) | the worst | bad | whatever(?) | not my thing(?) | good(?) | great | favorite| masterpiece
Willem Dafoe is in the new sequel....so I gotta watch the OG soon. I'm expecting it to just be 'eh, it's fine' for me. Will be interesting to see how the humor and overall vibe hits when I don't have nostalgia for it. I know it has a niche fanbase but I saw more people get into the musical more than anything lol. Tbh the sequel has that 'what other properties can we bring back for money' smell on it to me BUT that doesn't mean a movie will be bad (I think that was the case for Twisters, blatant recognizable IP motive but it was decently received) so...we'll see!
ask me about a film

Get to Know Me Tag
Tagged in by @kookaburra1701! Thankee!! - Last Song: Oh gosh this's a hard one. I tend to just throw on a playlist on random and let it take me where it takes me, not remembering the individual songs so much as the 'set'. According to youtube it was Genghis Khan - which tracks, I get that song stuck in my head a LOT. - Last Movie: Last movie at home was Alien 3 - showing it to my fiancée since she's never seen it and its my favourite of the franchise. Was nice rewatching it, haven't in aaaages. Was way slower paced than I remembered but still liked it and hella excited for Alien: Romulus. Last movie in cinema I saw was The Watchers and THAT was a fun time. Fun fae stuff + beautiful creature design. I am nothing if not a sucker for beautiful monsters. - Currently Watching: Silent Sea, by recomendation of my wonderful fiancée; not very far in yet but enjoying it. - Currently Reading: Nothing! Tho very much wanting to get back into it. It'll probably end up being 'Utterly Dark' by Philip Reeve - he's my favourite author ever since reading the Mortal Engines quartet as a kiddo and I haven't read these new books yet and excited to see what he's cooked up. - Currently Craving: Running a game!! I've been on a dry spell of not running any tabletop RPG for... a while now... and even though its hecking TERRIFYING thinking about starting up again after a few months, GOD do I miss it terribly. DMing brings me so much joy. - Last thing you searched for writing purposes: Humorism and just ye olde medicine in general.
Tagging... hmmm... @skyrim-forever and @itheliaapologist!
