Work you are most proud of (and why): 

Uhmmm well. Hm. Probably Three Times? It was the first one-shot I’ve ever written and it was very different to what I usually write, and I’d always wanted to write some kind of horror story. I re-wrote it like three bloody times too so the name is particularly fitting, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I like the narrator too, they were fun to write. 

Work you are least proud of (and why): 

I know that I’ll probably learn to like it a little more now that it’s finally done, and I’m so grateful for all the lovely feedback on it, but honestly, Before I Melt Away was a complete nightmare. It was the fanfic equivalent of a fucking annoying cat, every time I sat down to write it it would just sit on my fucking head and claw at my scalp and eat all my fucking food. It was far too rushed and I should have left more time for it but I didn’t ‘cause I’m a piece o shite. Hopefully that will change this year. 

A favourite excerpt from your writing: 

I quite like this little bit from Three Times...

Thinking of Pete helps - I'm not usually one for romance, but the relationship that blossomed between them was a rather sweet twist - and Patrick tries to remember what Pete usually says, replicating the shushing in his ear with his own breaths, running his fingers over his face and imagining Pete's lips against his own. He reminds himself who he is, one piece at a time, ignoring the throbbing in his wrist.

 He sips at his glass of water like it'll cure him of his ills, running fingers through his thinning hair and redrawing the worry lines in his forehead. I didn't make him ugly - I never make ugly people - but the world did, the lattice of scars across his body horrifying to everyone but Pete, who kisses them like he doesn't miss the unspoiled porcelain I gifted specially to Patrick. It's a shame to see my work so dreadfully ruined.

And also this one line from Before I Melt Away which is literally the only line I’ve ever written that made me feel an emotion...

Pete stopped believing in any kind of miracles when the kindest man he ever knew was thrown through a windshield.

Well @hum-my-name leaves such beautiful comments that she’s literally the reason I’m still writing and I love you unconditionally. She’s the opposite of annoying cat, she’s like the rat in Ratatouille, she sits on my head and operates me via my hair. 

But I love and appreciate all the lovely feedback, especially the amazing comments from @das-verlorene-kind , @allkindsofplatinumandpercocet and @laudanumcafe , you always leave such beautiful comments. And then there’s this:

A time when writing was really, really hard: 

Oh God, both of the one shots I wrote. I was up for most of the night trying to finish them, and I actually cried over Before I Melt Away ‘cause it wasn’t finished and it wasn’t good and aaah. Cats, heads, the whole shebang. 

A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: 

Hm, well seeing as I never plan anything, most things end up as a surprise. Andy turned out way more evil in DOA than I intended. Franklin is probably one of my favourite OCs. Patrick was originally going to turn back into the YBC monster in Three Times. Snowman Patrick was going to die for real. 

How did you grow as a writer this year? 

Uh, I guess I tripled my fic output, kinda? I also began to stop lurking and actually talk to some people on here, and it’s been great to have people to bounce ideas off. 

How do you hope to grow next year? 

Update more. Try to make characters more realistic. Update more. Try to be a bit more poetic and a bit less blunt. Talk to some more people, help beta some stuff. Update more. Feel free to send me motivational hate mail, everyone. 

Who was your greatest positive influence as a writer? 

Well obviously my fellow lurker, @hum-my-name . I love you and I want to send you all the hugs and thank you for tolerating my late-night rants about whatever the bloody hell it is this time. Your comments give me life, thank you. 

Also @sn1tchesandtalkers for shouting at me when I don’t do things and letting me call you an arseface 24/7. Thanks for everything, arseface. 

Anything from real life show up in your writing this year: 

Yeah, my deceased bandmates appeared in my bedroom in the middle of the night to saw off my various limbs. 

Any new wisdom you can share with other writers: 

Don’t let a demon cult claim you and make you kill your best friends. It might seem ‘cool’ or ‘trendy’ but it will result in your ultimate mental breakdown and death at the hands of said friends. Also, don’t lie on the internet. 

Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) next year? 

I will finish DOA. I will. Finish. DOA. I also wanna take part in some more challenges, maybe BBB if I can face it, and start another fic that might be quite a lot darker than anything I’ve written before. But we’ll see. DAMN this thing is long (said Pete to Patrick, heh heh), thanks for reading if you got this far.

Have Yourself Some Merry Little Peterick... 2018! Instructions on how to post!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone! The time is upon us for some holiday-themed Peterick goodness!

At 22:00 GMT (which is definitely the 22nd somewhere in the world!) the Have Yourself Some Merry Little Peterick 2018 collection will go live on ao3! It will remain open until... I remember to close it in the early hours of the 25th here in the UK. Tons of time, people. Ages! Anyway, here’s how to go about posting your masterpiece:

1) Go to “post work” on ao3 as usual, add the title, summary, tags etc as you would do anyway.

2) Look for this:

This is where you enter the name of the challenge. To clarify, it’s “Have Yourself Some Merry Little Peterick 2018”, don’t try to post in last year’s collection, that sucker is closed!

3) Post your fic as usual and it will be added to the collection.

4) Bask in the wonderful holiday spirit and enjoy all of the wonderful works everyone is posting.

5) Realise we’re going to start bugging you about Be My Peterick Valentine 2019 in like... two weeks and die a little inside!

Christmas music floats joyously through the air, filling the space of the living room with gleeful choruses about sleigh rides through snow covered hills and silver bells, as five stockings of different patterns , with names stitched in gold hang along the top of a cold fireplace, the mantle decorated with frames holding pictures of family, friends, and smiling children. Around the tree, basking in the abnormally warm Chicago sun filtering in through the windows of double French doors are two six year olds looking up at the noble fir tree, each holding a different color ornament in their hand.

“I think you should start on that side,” says the sandy blond haired child softly, motioning to the left side of the tree with a purple ornament in his hand. “And I’ll do this side. That’s how Papa and Daddy would do it.”

Hey everyone! I’m still alive and kicking! I’ve emerged from my cave to bring you this you this little bit of Christmas Angst for the @peterickcreationschallenge of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Peterick!” except it’s filled with angst....and im so incredibly sorry in advance!

Truth be told, I actually wrote this earlier this year during one of my incredibly low mood, and it seems only right to post this after the hectic and insane year I've had. Needless to say, life dealt me some cards and gave me a few lessons along the way this year, which i am forever grateful for. 

This fic is about moving on and about loss, and how this time of year can be so incredibly difficult for some, but in it all, I feel like the holidays is also a time for hope, for family, and just loving all around. I cried writing it, and nearly 10 months later, I cried editing it. Needless to say, it’s not for everyone, so please read with caution.
