I’ve been meaning to ask you something; as we read on the prequel of the bmb pieces, reader’s best friend and mother aren’t fond for tomura. How is the relationship between tomura and the rest of reader’s social circle?? What do they think of him? Do her friends and family approve the relationship between him and the reader due to the fact that he’s wealthy? Do they even UNDERSTAND its dynamic??

From what we’ve seen so far, it seems likely that they disapprove daddy tomura’s controlling nature that resulted to the isolation of the reader from her family and friends. Poor reader, being in the centre of this…

good questions! so reader’s bff + her mother were like, chief in her life—the two that have known her the longest and initially were the most important to her, being her childhood best friend and her actual parent lmao. because of this, they weren’t just about to let her slip from their grasp into tomura’s, and they knew much more about her relationship and what goes on within that relationship than anyone else. but even with that being said, the details they were aware of just barely scratched the surface of her very complex relationship with this man, and they ultimately were not able to convince her to break it off. she still keeps in contact with her mother on occasion, though the relationship is strained and tomura disapproves of it. her best friend she no longer has contact with.

outside of them, her social circle consists merely of her university friends, whom she more or less met around the same time she met tomura (she was in her first year of uni when she met him!). as such, they’re ‘surface level friends’/casual friends, for lack of a better term: she hangs out with them and does fun stuff with them (dinners, day trips, spa trips, little outings to local events, etc) but she isn’t necessarily close with them.

they know she’s dating tomura and that he gives her a very pretty sum of money to go out and have fun with, and they think she’s soooo lucky because he’s such a handsome, rich man, but they do not know very much about his extremely controlling, possessive and abusive nature. for example, they’ve obviously witnessed her having to check in with him and call him/text him photos of where she is, but without any other context, they all just interpret that as him being a protective boyfriend who cares a lot and likes to be in the know. they have no idea that a hefty punishment awaits her at home if she fails to comply with these things. as such, no, they don’t truly understand their relationship dynamic or even the basic transaction (for lack of a better term) that happens between reader and tomura (that of her obedience and submissiveness for his protection, care, doting, and money) that is one of the base tenets of their whole relationship.

her university friends only began to realize that there was something much deeper, much heavier going on here when she was forced to limit her contact with them after the threats began, and that when she did occasionally hang out with them, it was now always with that mysterious man with the inky hair and scars + tattoos. things became more secretive, and there were several questions she couldn’t answer with anything other than extremely vague responses. they didn’t press, though, because she seemed ‘okay’ and they all felt like it was really none of their business anyway.

she isn’t extremely close with any other family outside of her mother, so they do not know much about her life with tomura, nor do they necessarily care (and that’s how she prefers for it to be, honestly)!
