Antique map of the Haute Loire Departement in South Central Eastern France. Department 43. Carte Ancienne de Géographie de Département. Main cities/towns are Le Puy-en-Velay, Brioude, Yssingeaux. Geographer Victor Levasseur established his reputation as a mapmaker between 1838 and 1854 with a series of maps in this style. The map is from a disbound copy of "Atlas National Illustre des 89 Departements et des possessions de la France" published by Pelissier in Paris in 1861. This map is hand-coloured. This is contemporary and not a later addition. The map supplied is original NOT a reproduction. It is 157 years old, a genuine antique and collectable. It would grace the wall of an office, lounge or bedroom. Its size is approximately 37 x 52cm (14.5 x 20.5 inches) including the wide margin.
