SPOOKY HAUNTED UPPER BIG LAKE - Charleston, Missouri. A few miles north of Charleston, The Upper Big Lake (a former bend in the Mississippi River before the river changed course centuries ago) is an allegedly haunted area where unaccounted-for voices are supposedly heard and misty apparitions are said to be seen. It is definitely spooky (and we did hear something strange) - but the vibe here in this leechy, swampy area is more “Stand By Me” than haunted abode. Nighttime blackness may tell a frighteningly different tale.
