#OnThisDay in 1939: Audiences at the Fox Theater in Riverside, California, get a surprise showing of GONE WITH THE WIND, which the theater manager showed as a second feature. Producer David O. Selznick sat in the back and observed the audience reaction to his highly anticipated film.
A movie that every mother loves - "Gone with the Wind". I remember watching this movie with my mom every Saturday, it's great, even though it's long, it's worth watching.
*Thank you for such a positive response to my previous post*
Leading the field of artificial intelligence, Halfway, a subsidiary of Soul-Tech, provides customers with the opportunity to digitally upload their minds so that in the eventuality of their death, loved ones will be able to communicate with an AI simulation and gain closure. But at what cost?
A year after her brother Mark’s death, Florence is still consumed by grief. And though her parents encourage her not to dwell on the past, Florence decides to visit Halfway and speak to the simulation of Mark that was created not long before his passing. But instead of putting her mind at ease, speaking with the replica of her brother only unleashes destabilising questions and opens old wounds. Why are Mark’s uploaded memories different from Florence’s? Why are the circumstances surrounding Mark’s death becoming less clear? And what does Halfway have to hide?

It's a little shameful to admit, but I haven't actually seen Gone With the WInd.
I know it's a classic of Hollywood and a very influential film for a number of reasons. I know that Hattie McDaniel became the first African-American person to win an Academy Award for her work in this film, even though the awards ceremony was racially segregated. And I know that Vivian Leigh was beautiful.
But this is about Barbie.
Best I can tell, there have been four different Barbies released as Scarlett O'Hara, and one Ken as Rhett Butler.
This 1994 collection came packaged in boxes with a cutout for the face that opened up to show information about the film on the inside as well as, of course, the doll herself.
The red one in particular puts me in mind of something. At first I thought perhaps it was one of the dolls from the Great Fashions of the 20th Century series, but that's not it. Does anyone know what this doll is reminding me of?
I am sure if I had seen the film, I would be able to talk about the references here to the fashions of the film, but none of these look like the "frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" dress, which is 100% of Scarlett's fashion from the film that I know, so I am out of my depth.
I have been saving the best until last though because I love this green dress, and this hat that out of context I think makes her look like Robin Hood.
I looked up a reference picture for this one and it is just as charming - if not more so - on Vivien Leigh.
I have been avoiding talking about the Ken though, because I think they did Clark Gable dirty with this depiction. His suit looks illfitting, and his moustache looks much less flattering.
Poor Rhett Butler. Why did Mattel do you like that?
I make period drama style gifs. If you use gif packs, please like and reblog them. Most of my projects are already ready, but every day I post no more than 190 gifs. Because that was the reason why my previous account was blocked.
I tried to make gif packs in a format more familiar to you with a link to a separate page. However, unfortunately, I did not succeed because of the large format of high-quality gifs.
I want to explain about color processing. Usually, I improve the contrast, brightness and saturation, but leave the naturalness of the film. I don't make the contours too sharp because I like the aesthetic of it looking like a natural image.

I Dare You - B. Clarke
sobbing over here, thanks for this- bc he is 19, it'll be angsty or fluffy, not smutty- sorry.
TW; there is a line that could be potentially trigging for abusive pasts, talking about home. Please be careful when reading. 🤍
And it’ll take place in the future when he’s a full time NHLer

"I can't do this anymore Brandt!"
“What do you mean?” He asked.
You didn’t respond, keeping your focus on your hands as you picked at the skin around around.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
“This! I can’t do this anymore!” You whispered, “I’m tired of being home alone all the time. I’m tired of you being gone. I’m tired of when you are home, you’re fixated on something else. We never spend time together anymore and I just can’t hand it anymore Brandt.”
“What do you mean?” He asked as he stepped towards you, trying to take your hands in his.
“i just told you and you didn’t listen!” You all but shouted as you jerked your hands away, “I need you to listen! I don’t know how else to put it!”
“I’m- I’m trying here.” He muttered, “I’m trying to understand, but I don’t.”
“Understand this then- I think I need to leave for a while.” You muttered, “I cant be here right now.” your anxiety getting the better of you as you walked toward the front door.
You let the flood gates open, his face changing from angry to worried.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, his hands moving to the sides of your arms, his thumbs slowly rubbing circles, “What’s on your mind? You’re not usually like this.”
“Get your fucking hands off of me.” You hissed as you grabbed them, shoving them away, “Do not touch me.” You grabbed your purse, slinging it over your shoulder, praying your phone and wallet was in it.
“I fucking dare you to walk out that door.” He hissed, lightly grabbing your arm, “If you do, don’t come home.”
No man or anyone would talk to you or put his hands on you like that. You jerked your arm out of his grasp, giving him a light shove away from you; which didn’t do a whole lot.
“Fuck you Brandt Clarke.” You were seething by this point.
By the time you got down to the apartment lobby, you had already realized you didn’t have your keys, your wallet, or your phone; just an almost empty bottle of gum and a crumpled up receipt from TJ Max.
“Shit.” You muttered to yourself as you stomped your foot, angry at yourself.
You unzipped a pouch in the purse, luckily finding a five dollar bill, “Thank god.”
You continued walking down the street, the sign of the cafe that you and Brandt frequently visit coming into view. You kept walking, thankful that you had found that five dollars in your bag, enough to buy a small coffee and a scone.
“What can i get you dear?” The sweet old lady from behind the counter asked, her recognizing you, “Y/N? What’s wrong?”
“Can I get a small caramel latte and a scones?” You whispered. The woman, Scarlett, gave you a pitiful look, but she gave you a comforting presence. She was working every time you and Brandt had came in and you had had multiple conversations with her, “We had a fight. And I left.”
“Oh dear.” She said as she rung up what you had told her, immediately holding her hand up as you went to hand her the money, “It’s on the house sweetheart; don’t worry about.”
“No- please let me pay you.” You said, tears starting to trail down your cheeks at her kindness, “I cant accept it without-“
“No ma’am, don’t worry about it.” She said, “You need a pick me up.” She leaned in as she whispered, “It’s perks of being the owner.”
“Thank you.” You whispered as a sob left your lips. She quickly prepared your order before giving you your coffee and bag.
“I hope it all works out.”
You gave her a sad smile before tucking the money into your sweatpants, which just so happened to be Brandts’, before making your way towards a booth. You sat with your back towards the wall, your eyes on the door as you watched people enter and exit the building smiling or in a rush.
It wasn't too late in the day when everything went down so now would be the time people would be meeting up with friends or family to grab something or even just getting off work. Even though it was still earlier in the evening, the sun was starting to go down pretty early as it did this time of year.
You looked around the room until it dawned on you that you were sitting at your usual table, tears rushing to your eyes again.
It wasn't that you wanted to end things with Brandt, but you were just tired of living his lifestyle. You wanted a partner that was home every night, not one that was gone weeks at a time. You loved and adored Brandt, but it was getting harder and harder to ignore how you were feeling.
You were so caught up in your own thoughts that you didn’t hear the chair scooting across the ground nor someone sitting down at the table.
“Baby?” Brandt’s voice shook you out of your thoughts, your eyes darting to his disheveled features.
You didn’t say anything which was causing him to start panicking. He knew you were upset, as was he, but he didn’t want this to end. He loved you and would follow you to the ends of the Earth, if it meant you were happy.
“If you don’t want to come home, that’s fine, but please- let me at least get you a hotel room or something. I’ll drive you wherever. I just don’t want you on the streets alone with it getting dark.” he started, “I just want you to talk to me.”
You watched him run his hands over his face, the clear evidence of stress being there.
“I’m so sorry.” You mumbled as you started, “I just- I don’t know what I want. I want you-“
“You have me baby.” Brandt said as he grabbed your hand from across the table, giving it a tight squeeze, “You’ll always have me and I know it’s all tough right now. The road trips, the constant training. I know. I’m sorry. I really am, but I don’t want to lose you. I cant lose you. Not like this.” He whispered as his eyes scanned your face, him giving another squeeze when he saw your bottom lip start to quiver, “and I know I’ve been distracted by everything, but if you just come home and keep fighting for us, I promise I’ll be better. I shouldn’t have made you feel like this, but I promise it won’t happen again.”
“Okay.” You agreed, “I’ll come home.”
“Thank god. I thought I was going to have to carry you out of here.” He softly joked as his thumb ran over you knuckles, “You’ll never feel like this again baby, i promise.”

In this spectacular saga as radiant, thrilling, and beguiling as Hollywood itself, Adriana Trigiani takes us back to Tinsel Town’s golden age—an era as brutal as it was resplendent—and into the complex and glamorous world of a young actress hungry for fame and success. With meticulous, beautiful detail, Trigiani paints a rich, historical landscape of 1930s Los Angeles, where European and American artisans flocked to pursue the ultimate dream: to tell stories on the silver screen.
The movie business is booming in 1935 when twenty-one-year-old Loretta Young meets thirty-four-year-old Clark Gable on the set of The Call of the Wild. Though he’s already married, Gable falls for the stunning and vivacious young actress instantly.
Far from the glittering lights of Hollywood, Sister Alda Ducci has been forced to leave her convent and begin a new journey that leads her to Loretta. Becoming Miss Young’s assistant, the innocent and pious young Alda must navigate the wild terrain of Hollywood with fierce determination and a moral code that derives from her Italian roots. Over the course of decades, she and Loretta encounter scandal and adventure, choose love and passion, and forge an enduring bond of love and loyalty that will be put to the test when they eventually face the greatest obstacle of their lives.
Anchored by Trigiani’s masterful storytelling that takes you on a worldwide ride of adventure from Hollywood to the shores of southern Italy, this mesmerizing epic is, at its heart, a luminous tale of the most cherished ties that bind. Brimming with larger-than-life characters both real and fictional—including stars Spencer Tracy, Myrna Loy, David Niven, Hattie McDaniel and more—it is it is the unforgettable story of one of cinema’s greatest love affairs during the golden age of American movie making.
