I LOVED this season of Bridgerton. I might say even more than last season. But oh what a shocker to see so many Indians be distasteful of it. Of course, when we as south asians finally get representation we never seek to be optimistic about it, no, we are downright hateful. It is saddening to see that most of the hate this season and its protagonists are receiving is from Indians. Agh. Simone and Charithra were splendid. I felt so much for Anthonys character too. Eloises and Benedicts subplots are beautiful. I am just so annoyed at the continuous hate Indian people continue to give their own. I am not surprised of course, because while they found Rege absolutely stunning last season, and the sex scenes probably caught their eye, this season you can see the level of colourism and internal racism that goes around in India with the Sharmas receiving MUCH LESS love. So many articles were published in the news the last season, this season when we actually have something to boast of, when an indian song has made a mainstream shows background, we do not celebrate??! We do not rejoice!!???? We do not further encourage it???? Agh. Anyway, stream season 2 of Bridgerton

I’m rereading LO so I can better explain my opinion and have some thoughts 1) just bc two men are around eachother does not mean they will act like literal grade schoolers ( @ “the big 3”), 2) When you consider what Artemis wore to the opening party and how “out of place” P claimed to feel what she gave her to wear was odd to say the least, esp if you assume that they’re close enough in size P may have even been able to pick smth (which, having p pick her own outfit but having to ask would be 1/
a good and subtle way to show she had a desire for independence and her own way of doing things from the get)
3) you know how when you’re a new writer or writing ff they tell you it not only shows your hand and kills any suspense to focus on putting the coupled characters in solely poetical terms, hurts any buildup or deep and palpable that could exist in the future, and makes everything feel so drab and cliche you wanna burn everything?? She did that SO OBVIOUSLY IT HURTS like the way she draws P when Hades first sees her is VERY MUCH showing her to be seen as innately demure and coquettish and bleh I’m gonna be sick like even just the dress (which when are ppl gonna learn tube dresses are a gd NONO) seems like it’s meant to give you the impression that she’s like *sex vibes* while having the personality of a 16 y/old Disney character (the whole scene tbh w hades grabbing his mf heart feels like a bad Disney movie)
4) THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THAT ANY GOD WOULD BE SO DUMB AS TO MAKE THE APHRODITE COMMENT FFS (also Eros calling her mummie-kins?? Saying “YUUUUUUUS I’m the cutest” ironically?? These are ancient beings more powerful than we could possibly grasp not ppl on sc)
5) I hate how they refer to each other as their skin colour sometimes- the only time it was funny was Hades being called blue balls and just agh sorry this is so long also abt smth on here earlier technically P and H would make a magenta-y colour and MINTHE AND HADES would make purple.
_________________________________________________________
Thank you for sacrificing yourself so you can deliver us those observations! Every day I see the new asks I get another layer is peeled from the comic and I see worse and worse elements of it. I only want to comment on a couple of things.
1) What the fuck is “mummy-kins” the whole non-English world wonders. Sounds so cringey. Loving your mum and calling her rediculous names like a 5y/o are different things. (Does it come from “munchkin”? You know what, don’t even answer, I don’t care 🤣) I hate how Eros is infantalized in this comic sometimes. Also he is a mighty god!! He wouldn’t talk like that!!
Sometimes I complain about people “treating the gods as ocs” and THIS is what I mean! Obviously, if you make a story with the gods you are gonna treat them like characters. I don’t have a problem with that. They become ocs when you customize them and ignoring canon AND when you change their personalities to be ridiculous and not match those of mighty gods.
2) I had forgotten how they refer to each other as their skin colour sometimes! (das racist!! :P) The blue-balls joke was funny, at least 🤣 I saw a comment on anti-lo reddit and it reminded me of how the original 6 gods are also called Traitors (BY THEIR ALLIES) so that’s double cringe.
3) Not surprised Smythe doesn’t know how colors work 🤣

I rewatched Eternal Diva and this time I took notes as I went through
Dive under the cut if you dare to experience my mad in-the-moment ramblings (warning for spoilers for pretty much the entire prequel trilogy)
-          Don Paolo’s voice sounds like what Papyrus’s voice probably should
-          Winter Layton is precious in that giant coat
-          Janice is so pretty omg an angel
-          Layton geeking out over the Detrogan is goddamn adorable
-          I love how everything is greyed out in Janice’s flashback
-          Suuuuuuuuper subtle indication that maybe “Janice” seeing how young this little girl was is what prompted her to find a way to put an end to this whole thing
-          Whether it’s a moped or the Laytonmobile, Emmy drives like crazy XD
-          Bitch you ain’t on Top Gear
-          God her big sister relationship with Luke is adorable tho
-          Aaaaaaaaaaaah Layton smiling at their banter dad’s so happy for his son
-          They did such a good job reusing the game’s music for this movie
-          The opera house looks so cool but so precarious – my first thought upon seeing it was “when is this thing going to sink”
-          I MEAN IT’S ON A CLIFF
-          Janice’s voice is so pretty TToTT
-          I like that they kept the Japanese vocals for her singing
-          SONG OF THE SEA-SHADOWING
-          I hate that Layton and Luke were the ONLY people to honestly applaud the performance. Everyone else is a DICK
-          First time I saw this dude, I thought “that’s a puppet, no ordinary person moves like that even in animation”
-          Once again, Layton putting a polite and gentlemanly spin on “fucked if I know, my dude”
-          Lol I love that even the people who didn’t applaud and thus apparently knew what they were in for weren’t down for dying
-          Fuking cowards
-          Layton is always DTF (down to fight)
-          GROSKY OF THE YARD
-          FUCK YES
-          This dude’s manliness is infectious
-          “Gee, I wonder who’s behind this-“ *Descole’s theme starts playing* “-oh well never mind”
-          Honestly who else but Descole would be this fucking extra tho
-          Gotta admit I love the twist of the opera house being a ship, I was totally expecting it to just go plunging into the ocean at a moment’s notice
-          Aaaaah the CG in this movie is really well done
-          Layton’s angry face is kinda ridiculous but I love it
-          I love that it’s pointed out like “where tf did all these sharks come from”
-          I prefer Cartoon Saloon’s Song of the Sea, but this one’s pretty too
-          Lol as if a MAN-EATING SHARK could keep down GROSKY OF THE YARD
-          I’m surprised he can see over the top of his chest hair
-          God, the detrogan is such a cool instrument and I really wish something like it existed irl
-          Ah, it’s only like fifteen sharks, Grosky will be fine
-          I love the air of mystery surrounding Oswald Whistler
-          Layton’s hat is made of 100% pure uncut husband material
-          AAAAAAAAAAAAAH I LOVE HOW PUZZLES ARE USED IN THIS MOVIE IT’S SO GOOOOOOOD
-          I’m so glad they didn’t scrap it entirely coz I mean they’re so integral not only to the Layton games, but Layton himself
-          This music box tune kinda gives me Gravity Falls vibes tbh
-          I think the backing melody sounds pretty identical to the tune’s intro
-          I love that this movie actually lets us see inside Layton’s head and his thought process, it’s so much better than just having him put everything together seemingly offscreen
-          Tbh any puzzle where “the night sky” is the solution is bound to be a good puzzle
-          I just fucking love the implied MASSACRES in this movie
-          God Luke is so goddamn precious
-          Pffft pumpkin dude is so subtly duplicitous
-          Okay I have ot pause for a bit to rant about layton’s design because it’s SO GOOD. Warm colours make him seem welcoming and kinda comfy and the simple facial features, while a bit Ditto-esque, do combine nicely with his overall shape to scream “friend”. Professor Layton is friend shaped. And of course there’s the popped collar to show that he’s cool, the high collared shirt gives a scholarly vibe, his shoes which I stg are plimsolls show a practical side and of course the quintessential top hat shows that he’s a Gentleman first and foremost. Add the amazing voice to that and BOI I DIE
-          Although I can’t help imagining that gif with the teddy bear slapping eyebrows onto its face to look angry whenever he gets mad
Tumblr media
-          Luke is not friend shaped. Luke is son shaped.
-          Precious bab shaped
-          Wpw a sea captain I would never have guessed other than the “sailor” accent and the fact that you’re wearing a sailor’s uniform
-          Ugh I love these quiet moments where things can sink in and characters can just talk to each other, I really wish more movieswould do this
-          I love that even if you don’t have a literal look at his thought processes, you can still see Layton THINKINg
-          Agh Amelia is SO CUTe this series is so good at designing beautiful women and cute girls while also making them look DISTINCT
-          I like that they hinted at her intelligence by having her solve the puzzles by herself
-          One advantage a film has over the games is that the visual novel format kinda limits the dialogue, coz it’s hard to convey one charafter talking over another
-          I really like the side characters. They’re simple, yes, but they don’t really need to be complex
-          I will admit that the limits of Layton’s simple facial features means it can be hard to tell who/what he’s looking at sometimes…
-          “that man” asked me to write an opera, huh
-          WHY DOES NOBODY ASK WHO
-          Fuck descole’s theme is SO GOOD
-          WHERE DOES HE GET THE FUNDING FOR ALL OF THIS THOUGH
-          And Grosky boards the ship just in time for it to blow up XD I love this dude
-          I can only imagine his gigantic pecs act as a flotation device
-          Layton preventing Luke from looking at the exploding ship THIS MAN IS SUCH A DAD HE’S SO GOOD
-          I love this scene with Emmy investigating because these parent’s appearances are just enough to make it ambiguous whether they’re Nina or Amelia’s parents
-          Seeing them all wrapped up in blankets is kinda cute tbh
-          LET. THEM. SLEEP.
-          I wonder what Layton uses to keep his hat on?
-          Lol Emmy pushing a fossil aside to look at the map
-          I can only assume, given that they set off from the White Cliffs of Dover, that this island is SOMEWHERE off the coast of mainland Europe in about the same region as Spain
-          Ugh I LOVE Emmy’s uppercrust accent, the fact that she sounds like such a refined lady is such a fun contrast to her literal arse-kicking
-          Also this is totally BBC news lol
-          I love the detail of the historian’s scrapbook being kinda hodgepodge with bits falling out
-          And I love the Ambrosia Seal being super detailed but the subtle incorporation of a sheet music design
-          Gotta admit I totally thought this little banquet was poisoned on my first watch
-          Lol I love that pumpkin guy just KEEPS POURING THE WINE
-          Ugh that beach looks SO PRETTY, I want to go there
-          Janice is totally crushing on Layton, pass it on
-          D’awwwwww luke trying to befriend ‘melina’ is SO CUTE this boy must be protected at all costs
-          Layton how did you hear what she was humming from all the way over there
-          Why do so many anime characters have inexplicable super senses
-          Those wolves’ eyeliner is on point lol
-          “I’m not built for running” lol mood
-          FUCKING HELL DESCOLE WHO IS FUNDING ALL YOUR SHIT
-          HOW MUCH DISPOSABLE INCOME DO YOU FUCKING HAVE
-          Admittedly on my first watch I wasn’t as familiar with descole’s theme, but I saw that castle and I just thought “it’s descole, only he can be that extra”
-          The twist of using the cages for personal protection rather than to trap the walls is simple, but so clever
-          I love that Mr Whistler was one of those accidentally trapped outside. Keeps suspicion off
-          And I love Layton saying “well that solved PART of our problem”
-          YOU SHUT UP LADY THE PROFESSOR IS AMAZING
-          And then he trips and falls lol that’s what you get for wearing old man shoes
-          “Even a good gentleman needs to get some exercise!” pfft
-          Oh hey, they found the starter house that Descole was using while he was building that castle. I wonder what texture pack he’s using?
-          And here Layton puts MacGuyver to shame in the most Ghibli way possible
-          I’d love to see someone try to build this thing XD someone call the Mythbusters
-          Bjut I adore how even LAYTON isn’t sure how this fucking thing works
-          Fucking NERD
-          Yeah, these filmmakers were TOTALLY influenced by Ghibli
-          This is so Castle In The Sky, it hurts
-          “Hang on tight! NOT TO THE PILOT!” – best line in the movie
-          You can’t escape it, Layton. You is a dad
-          DID YOU GUYS NOT SEE LAYTON LAPUTA-ING HIS WAY IN
-          It’s great how all those puzzles seem like they could be ripped straight out of the Layton games, complete with outside-the-box bizarre thinking required to solve em
-          I’m so proud of Luke for solving it!!!!! Such a good boy
-          RUDE
-          Yeah, just stand in the middle of the suspiciously empty room, I’m sure nothing will go wrong
-          That’s what you get for shoving Layton aside, bitches
-          Lol I guess luke could just step through the bars if his head was a bit smaller
-          DESCOLE HOLY FUCK YOU ARE THE KING OF EXTRA
-          “humble scientist” GOOD GRIEF WHAT A LOAD OF SHIT YOU DRAMA QUEEN
-          I love that Emmy can FLY A PLANE
-          Holy shit grosky there are better ways to signal for help
-          And LESS GROSS WAYS TO DRY YOURSELF OFF IN A PLANE
-          Yeah, see, you lost your knickers
-          Ugh, god. I adore this scene with Layton in Melina’s room. It’s so quiet, the soft evening lighting… aaaaaaaaaaah so peaceful, but you can still feel the tension in the air, especially after Melina comes in
-          Oh my god, Layton plays like an angel *swoon*
-          The lack of background music in this scene is what makes it so perfect, the tension is so REAL
-          Lol I love the historian just standing there like ‘welp there they go’
-          NOOOOOOOOO LUKE DON’T CRY
-          BIG SIS IS HERE
-          Oh fuck yes
-          EMMY I LOVE YOU
-          God she and grosky are so fantastic XD
-          WHERE DID YOU LEARN TO FIGHT LIKE THAT EMMY
-          Somehow emmy gives me Michelle of the Resistance vibes
-          God, I kinda love it when you can tell Layton’s already put it all together and is just biding his time
-          AAAAAAAAAAH I love the subtle resemblance between Layton and what you can see of Descole’s face
-          In hindsight, that… stole? Is that what it is? The fur thing isprobably to hide his face shape because it most likely ups his resemblance to Layton
-          But he’s totally wearing black converse like the extra hipster nerd he is
-          God, I can’t even imagine the nightmare of having your memories overridden and personality suppressed
-          Aaaaaaaaaaaand here’s the summation. I love this part in pretty much every Layton thing
-          “Assisting you was the scientist, Jean Descole!” Descole: lol hi
-          LAYTON YOU ARE SUCH A DAD I LOVE YOU
-          Him being gentle with kids is so sweet
-          Also damn this backstory is a lot. I can’t imagine the pain of losing a loved one, but I’m not surprised a father would do anything he could to keep his daughter alive
-          “When did you realise I was involved” “ur an extra bitch who lives for drama, who else could it be”
-          That brief bit of Luke without his hat just makes him look even more BABY BOI MUST PROTECC
-          Okay real talk when did Janice get hold of the key
-          I’m guessing it was in the commotion when Mr Whistler grabbed Luke
-          SUCH A GOOD TWIST I LOVE IT
-          My heeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaart goddammit
-          In hindsight, the hint of Janice wearing Melina’s pendant was really subtle and clever
-          GODDAMMIT DESCOLE CAN YOU STOP BEING EXTRA FOR LIKE TEN SECONDS
-          It’s kinda cool that he’s an archaeologist too though. It really does run in the family.
-          The way Descole and Whistler’s schemes intertwined was really cool
-          Yeah, it just wouldn’t be Descole if there wasn’t some over-the-top machinery
-          YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS MAGIC MUSIC THIS IS MY SHIT
-          When escaping from a crumbling castle, do be sure to grab your boy.
-          AAAAAAAAAGH THE SCENERY IN THIS MOVIE IS SO FUCKING GOOD
-          Good lord, there it is. Descole just can’t function unless he has some ridiculous Humongous Mecha at his command
-          This thing looks especially monstrous and I love it
-          I don’t think I’ve seen ANY faults in this movie’s animation, jesus Christ
-          Descole, did you learn nothing from the attempted excavation of Troy? It’s very possible that your efforts to unearth Ambrosia will be what destroys it!
-          Aaaaaaaagh this flying scene is intense as FUCK
-          Layton and Luke are SUCH A GOOD TEAM
-          WHAT IS THIS MUSIC I LOVE IT
-          Luke you are SUCH A GOOD BOY
-          Sorry but you’ll never be mob tho
-          Mob is perfection
-          JESUS CHRIST DESCOLE ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL A CHILD
-          I was about to ask where that explosion came from but then I realised it was probably a petrol-powered chainsaw
-          Layton who told you that you could look this goddamn epic
-          But I love that he’s taking on the sword-armed Descole with a PIPE
-          That footwork tho
-          Layton must be an amazing dancer
-          So cool that he’s patiently explaining why Descole was wrong
-          Sun, stars and sea. I feel like that’s a Dothraki term of endearment meant for oceanfairing
-          MORE MAGIC MUSIC I AM BLESSED
-          AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I LOVE THIS SO MUCH THIS IS THE FUCKING COOLEST
-          I’M SUCH A SLUT FOR MAGIC MUSIC GODDAMMIT AND THIS IS DOUBLE TEAMING ME WITH SINGING AND PIANO
-          I do enjoy that despite its emergence, Ambrosia is still partially submerged. Some movies would’ve had it rise from the sea completely
-          Lol at Descole losing his shit because SOMEONE ELSE found the answer
-          Yeah, bad idea attacking someone right on top of your humongous mecha’s control panel
-          “DESCOLE!” dude he’s fine you really think he’d die
-          I was going to ask why Emmy didn’t use her plane but she probably couldn’t get to it in time
-          Yeah, this is SO Ghibli. The gigantic industrialised machine self-destructing on the ruins of an ancient civilisation lost to nature
-          Noooooooooo don’t do this to me movie, nothing kills me like sad flashbacks
-          Ow my heart
-          This hurts
-          “I’m sorry, Father. I’ve only ever brought you grief and sadness, haven’t I” as someone who’s struggled with depression this is a whole-ass mood
-          NO THIS HURTS STOP IT
-          Also the lil detail of Whistler’s waistcoat being the same shade of purple as Melina/Janice’s dress
-          NOOO DON’T MAKE LUKE SAD
-          “I’m so glad all of you were my very last memory.” Damn that line hits hard
-          GIVE THE GIRL A HUG, LAYTON
-          I said a hug, not a hand on the shoulder, she needs a HUG
-          Seeing the destroyed detrogan really hammers it home, huh
-          It’s very kind of Grosky to let Whistler play one last time in memory of his daughter
-          When I got into the Layton series, I was no expecting to be hit so hard with the FEELS
-          “Do you know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?”
-          GNU Ambrosia, I guess
-          Ugh it’s so PRETTY tho
-          Fucking sparkles and shit
-          D’awwwww, I love the image of Luke patching up the wolves, he’s so sweet
-          Knowing the truth about Emmy and seeing her being so happy with Layton and Luke makes it really painful :’(
-          The world needs more of Layton with a big, happy smile
-          Awww, Author Lady and Pumpkin Dude kept in touch
-          GROSKY GOT HIS UNDIES BACK
-          Ugh seeing Layton and Luke peacefully listening to that music is SO CUTE and SOFT

Now that we're on this hiatus, do you mind telling us what you thought of each episode?
Okay, I know I’m super late to answer this but here I am! I’m not gonna go too in depth on them, but I do want to talk about them.
Treasure of the Found Lamp!
This one was amusing, and I absolutely love what they did with Djinn. I’m so so so glad they changed his name, too, as “Dijon” always bothered me, even as a kid. Also, the story of the lamp was very heartwarming! And seeing Selene again was fun, especially as she had to run around and we find out she’s a terrible liar lol (so she definitely had nothing to do with Della’s disappearance, I think we can all finally put that theory to rest).
The wild goose chase aspect was funny, coming from both sides, and I still think the actress on Ma Beagle’s TV looked vaguely like a character from PKNA so. But Djinn did not pull punches and them Beagles at least got hurt XD
Also. It kinda has a “the greatest treasure is family” vibe to it.
The Outlaw Scrooge McDuck!
As someone who loves Scrooge and loves Goldie, but is indifferent to Scroldie… I still loved this episode. It was great! It was also absolutely hilarious. And Gyro’s time traveling was amazing. Especially Scrooge’s sudden moment of realization when Gyro returned lol.
Louie’s gonna befriend Goldie! That makes me excited. I bet they’re gonna teach each other things that we haven’t even thought of (ie Louie values his family, while Goldie doesn’t even have a family. Maybe Goldie will officially join the Duck-McDuck family not through her strange but obviously antagonistically-romantic relationship with Scrooge, but through her friendship with and tutelage of Louie? Maybe he’s the one who shows her the importance of family and offers her a place in their family… it doesn’t mean giving up adventure, it just means always having somewhere she can call home, and people she can trust and rely on!).
I’m iffy about Jeeves’ redesign, and also his somewhat betrayal of Rockerduck, but I’ve never been like a hardcore fan of the two of them so it was easy for me to move on. I am curious, though, just how they’re gonna come back… guess Gyro’s not quite done with time travel shenanigans.
The only real gripe I have is Sheriff Marshal Cabrera. DON’T GET ME WRONG, I absolutely loved him. He’s a beautiful babby boy. But at the same time, he’s literally just. Fenton. I know he’s like. Fenton’s great grandfather (or maybe uncle, idk) or something. There should absolutely be similarities yes, but it felt like someone had taken the characters and placed them in an old west setting. That being said, I do love him, I just wish he’d been slightly more his own character. Like, maybe a little more like a mix of M’Ma and Fenton! Idk.
The 87 Cent Solution!
…….. You really want to know?
Okay, the episode was good. It was funny, and I enjoyed seeing Glomgold’s timestop shenanigans.
But the funeral scene? That wasn’t cool. I saw the “not really dead” twist coming, I think we all did, but no one thought to tell Donald? Donald thought that, so soon after finally making amends with his uncle, he had lost him for good.
And I get it. It’s meant to be a gag. It’s supposed to be funny. But it kinda really soured the rest of the episode for me. I hate to say that too, because it was a good and funny episode… I just… I can’t believe they did that to Donald. :(
The Golden Spear!
AGONY. Agony is how I feel about this one. Della made friends with the Lunarians! Actual friends! And then Penny made a bad choice, and Lunaris… damn you, Lunaris, you traitor.
All the things Della listed off, wanting to do with her kids and brother and uncle… they’re things the others have already done without her. That hit me in the feels.
AND THEN DONALD- AGH, I CAN’T EVEN. Poor Donald. He’s so stressed and his family loves him so much and just wanted him to have some peace. But alas, it was not to be. And now the fandom cries.
… Even if he really shouldn’t have climbed into that rocket but y’know. He didn’t MEAN to press buttons….
Nothing Can Stop Della Duck!
Della reunites with her boys and no one realizes Donald is gone. And we see Della trying to be a mom, and kinda failing miserably. But she’s trying, and she’s learning!
ALSO THEIR WOULD-BE NAMES HFBVSHKFCS
It really put to rest one of my biggest fears, that all of the triplets would accept her immediately (Louie showed serious hesitation through the entire episode, definitely coming from his place of insecurity that Dewey and Huey don’t share) and she’d be super-mom. She makes mistakes, and it’s acknowledged that she seems to be trying to be one of them rather than be their mother. It does feel awkward at times, and alien, like the boys are trying so hard to think she’s doing great when she’s really causing harm, but in the end when it comes down to it she’d do anything to protect them, and gives them the choice of letting her into their life. She doesn’t try and force her way in (as she kinda did at first, but came to realize this isn’t easy for them either).
Right now she feels kinda more like a cool aunt than a mom, but she’ll learn.
Raiders of the Doomsday Vault!
IS LUDWIG’S CONSCIOUS TRAPPED IN THE VAULT?! HE REACTED TO AND INTERACTED WITH THE PEOPLE OUTSIDE.
Anyway Scrooge and Glomgold’s parts were absolutely A+ hilarious. Della and Dewey bonding, they’re so much alike, but we see Dewey’s insecurity flare up- how he wants to impress Della, feeling like he has to earn her love. Even though she’s already loved them for ten years, even without ever knowing what they looked like.
Della has a moment of realization here, too. She looks down and realizes Dewey is in a dangerous situation. She realizes that Dewey is in danger. She questions if they’re doing something crazy, clearly thinking maybe we shouldn’t be doing this, but when Dewey quotes her “I’m your son, I can do anything!” she instead chooses to encourage him, not wanting to discourage him and possibly cause him to fall.
And then of course, her “exit strategy” thing. I honestly kinda feel like it’s a bit of an ass pull, but it at least makes a little sense. When you’re being hunted by a monster on the moon, you always want to have an escape route planned. Scrooge sees that, even if she’s the same ol’ Della she was before, she’s still changed. Ten years still changes you.
Friendship Hates Magic!
New Girl! New Girl! Violet’s pretty cool. At first she comes off as one of those “um, actually” people, but since I’m one of those “um, actually” people it’s pretty whatever to me lol. And Lena’s back! I’m super excited about that.
Lena gets a little jealous-possessive but who can blame her, Webby’s one of the few people who have always believed in her. And Webby spent so much time we never knew about trying to find ways to bring Lena back, to the point that it’s like clockwork.
The whole “being tormented by her own mind” thing was actually frightening in a way, and I’m just glad it all turned out alright. And now Webby isn’t just a fourth triplet, she’s the central member of her own trio. It’s great!
The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee!
Admittedly another plotline to be seen from far away. A good episode full of secondhand embarrassment, but dang Huey’s LUNGS.
I love Gandra’s design and personality. It’s pretty durn great. I love it! I just have one gripe. Warning, this is a bit of a rant.
Why can’t we let characters be feminine? By this I mean traditionally feminine. Dresses, makeup, shopping, high heels, giggling, soft and compassion and gentle and things I’m not, pinks and lilacs, etc. Yes, Webby’s favourite colour is pink and she likes glitter and wears skirts, she is pretty feminine. But she’s the only one, besides Roxanne Featherby (Featherly? I don’t remember, and that’s only arguably because of her clothes), to be even slightly feminine, and even then it can be argued she’s not all that traditionally feminine because, well… she’s the bruiser of the group. Which there’s absolutely nothing wrong with! A feminine bruiser absolutely works, and I love it, but looking at it from certain angles…
Most of the (non-villain) females, besides Webby, show next to no traditionally feminine qualities- Goldie is the closest, when she dresses up for special events or for schemes. Which I don’t mind, per se, I don’t have many traditionally feminine qualities either, but you’d think at least a few would. The original Gandra Dee, who I am glad they changed mind you, was very feminine; she wore her hair long, wore dresses, enjoyed makeup and manicures, etc. She was traditionally feminine, AND smart. (even if I never liked how they drew her face (the eyes and beak look weird imho, DT17 pulled it off better), and I felt like she left much to be desired *cough*…)
There is nothing wrong with having traditionally feminine characters. There is nothing wrong with having characters who enjoy dressing up, or putting on makeup, or shopping, etc. The problem with traditionally feminine characters comes in when it’s done for sex appeal, or you have a woman running from dinosaurs in 6 inch heels (yeah I’m calling that out) or there’s a feminine character there only to be dragged on by the others for their feminine characteristics.
Anyway, rant about that over. I still love what they did with Gandra, but I’m just noticing this trend where female characters aren’t being allowed to like traditionally feminine things. Yeah, there are absolutely a lot of girls who don’t, but there’s probably an equal amount who do! And there’s nothing wrong with showing a competent, traditionally feminine character. :/
The Duck Knight Returns!
DARKWING DUCK DARKWING DUCK DARKWING DUCK NEGADUCK AAAAAAAA
Need I say more?
Okay, Launchpad is a sweetheart and let’s be honest, we knew the moment we saw him that the other guy at the signing was Drake Mallard.
I love that they kept the “Darkwing Duck inspires Drake Mallard to become Darkwing Duck” aspect of DW’s origin story, while twisting it around so that time travel and paradoxes don’t occur. Also! We still get Jim Cummings as Negaduck, while also getting a new VA for Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck- someone who does a pretty good job at sounding like them, too. So now Negaduck, who is no longer Darkwing/Drake Mallard from an alternate universe, has his own distinguishable voice!
… And I still think Negs is gonna have an unhealthy obsession with Launchpad, thanks to the “my fan” comment. I figure that’s how we’ll get Nega Launchpad, but who knows! There’s so many possibilities!
Anyway Gosalyn, yesterday please. Gimme.

i- wow.
First of all, the hurricane/storm metaphor was a stroke of genius. Mina in my mind, is very much a storm - flitting from emotion to emotion because of who she was brought up as.
When she just kept refusing, & the fact that reader had a moment of doubt. It just broke up the scene & made it all the more relatable & visual.
No. You shook your head. She hated her.
AGH THAT LINE
I always love the way you use metaphors, & the colour imagery of Mina on the bed just enhanced this.
Love is so powerful. Your fics make me physically ache with desire to share such sincerity.
I loved this with all of me, & I’m so proud of you sweet angel. <3
Golden Crown Of Sorrow
A little angsty Mina fic because I felt suddenly inspired. Title from ‘King’ by Florence welch. I got a bit carried away with metaphors and didn’t proofread </3

july book roundup
Tumblr media
WE DID IT LADS!!!!!!! WITH FIVE MONTHS TO SPARE!!!!!!!!!! here’s to the 15 books i read this month, and the HUNDRED MORE I’LL READ IN THE COMING MONTHS +_+ (probably not. 50 more tho. that’s doable.)
how to bang a billionaire - alexis hall  ⭐️⭐️⭐️ a book that i might have abandoned 3 pages in if not for the fact that it’s written by alexis hall, who’s written some of my favourite stuff. it’s sort of a parody of other billionaire d/s books? sort of? sometimes it was just played straight and i didn’t enjoy it. but i’ll prob give other books in the series a try.
a lily among thorns - rose lerner  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ delightful! i’m in love with serena, she’s my absolute favourite. solomon was okay. also there were spies and intrigue and fancy parties and good old romance.
courting the countess / charming the vicar - jenny frame  ⭐️⭐️⭐️ contemporary f/f romance set in a small english village. lot of the f/f out there tends to be femme/femme, so i was glad to find cute butches in here. one was a very sweet fairy-tale-esque story, the other tackled being queer within the church (and featured a lesbian vicar).  all in all two cute romances, but not amazing.
portland diary - jamie berrout  ⭐️⭐️⭐️ a collection of short stories, all of which starred trans women of colour. man i liked it a lot, i just got frustrated that so many things were left unsaid. the collection felt extremely polished, but unfinished. and like i said in my review, i know leaving things unsaid is sometimes obviously the point of a story, it just didn’t work for me. still, i liked this a lot. it had sci-fi! it had dystopian futures! it had examinations of race and class! it had lesbians! i wanted for nothing.
coriolanus - william shakespeare  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ reread this after seeing that gifset of hiddleston and fraser making out. still a banger. “we have been down together in my dreams, unbuckling helms, fisting each other’s throats, and waked half dead with nothing.” dang. gay.
the god eaters - jesse hajicek  ⭐️⭐️⭐️ this has been on my to read list for a hell of a long time. it was good! not great, but good. fantasy m/m in a western-esque world of magic and gods. the world-building was sort of all over the place, it leaned heavily on racist tropes in the beginning, and a lot of things just didn’t makes much sense. buuuuut the characters were good and they fell in luv.
how they met and other stories - david levithan  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ i love david levithan a lot, i read a bunch of his stuff in my late teens, in my ‘I’M NEVER READING ANYTHING AGAIN UNLESS IT’S GAY!!!!!’ phase. this was a sweet collection of stories, in levithan’s always simple but always pretty and evocative prose. enjoyed it a lot! (tho ngl, i was crushed there was only one f/f story ;; and it wasn’t even happy!)
the adventures of sherlock holmes - arthur conan doyle  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ nth reread. not my favourite collection, among the short stories, but i love it a lot anyway. contains one of my favourite exchanges between holmes and a villain (grimesby roylott, in “the speckled band”). holmes the meddler! :D
huntress - malinda lo  ⭐️⭐️ this has also been on my to-read list for a while, and alas, it was a decided disappointment. flat characters, slipshod plot, omniscient pov/pov switching, which i hate more than i can express. i do not need to know what every character is thinking, if a scene is from a certain pov, LEAVE IT THERE, don’t switch around to let me know what character B thinks of A’s statement, right after A says it! agh. it was frustrating. but hey! malindo lo writes real pretty prose, and there were lesbians. so there’s that.
the sitar - rebecca idris  ⭐️⭐️ A BIG OLD YIKES. two stars because i really enjoyed getting a look into the british-muslim diaspora, even more so because two of the main characters were muslim lesbians. everything else: yikes. the author seemed undecided on what she actually wanted to SAY, so many passages were long and overwrought, character motivation from space, and NO editing/proofreading. also, the ending... yikes. yikes!!!
the merchant of venice - william shakespeare  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rereading coriolanus made me want to reread this too, just because it’s been such a long time. and wow it was a lot gayer than i’d realised in form 3. “say how i loved you, speak me fair in death. and when the tale is told, bid her be judge whether bassanio had not once a love.” gay.
sarah’s lover - saxon bennett  ⭐️⭐️ you’re ever reading a romance novel and you wonder, “wait, why is A falling in love with B? B’s an asshole!” this is the story of a lesbian who gets dumped by her asshole girlfriend, and proceeds to fall in love with a ghost who is eerily like her asshole girlfriend. but the author seems totally unaware of this similarity. yikes.
the covert captain - jeannelle m. ferreira  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ reader, i swooned. this book has a very particular style, few descriptions and transitions, and it makes it hard to read at times, and there are other areas in which it’s less than perfect. but it also the tale of a traumatised veteran of waterloo, a woman who’s been in disguise for most of her life and all of her career, and how she falls in love with the sister of her closest friend. i loved it! frick.
briarley - aster glenn gray  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ i love fairy-tale retellings!!!!! this is a gay retelling of beauty and the beast, set in 1940s england in the midst of wwii. a parson stumbles upon an old mansion, picks a rose for his daughter, and then a weird dragon man shows up and breathes fire in his face. this was unbearably sweet, i want a thousand more like it.
“so what’s next, now that you’ve finished the challenge?” WE KEEP READING BOIS. i’m not going to change my goal on goodreads, just to let myself off the hook, but i’ll keep reading. just not as much. i’ve been reading a lot of ultimately substance-less romance, which i love and is good for my soul, but i also want to get back into reading more classics, more nonfiction, more books in french. since i just took a free trial of kindle unlimited, and its selection of books kinds runs more towards the light stuff, i prooobably won’t be doing that for some time, but it’s on the agenda. right now, i’m listening to an audiobook of the memoirs of sherlock holmes, and ngl, i’ll be diving into some more romance soon. :D
