Hat mom Nell and Arieta - Costume Addition!

This was a fun one - i might make a colored version with better details but for now, enjoy mother-daughter bonding just in time for Halloween!

A/n: I 100% agree, like man...can’t we just have them be happy.

This is an Au, where Nell, Arthur and Olivia are alive.

Luke didn’t think he could be this embarrassed. But here he was, at his reception for his wedding and his father telling an embarrassing story about how him and Nell grabbed one of the phones then called 911 but quickly hung up and when the police came to the house he and his twin hid under the kitchen table.

That seemed to have earned a laugh from your father. Giving Luke a smile you patted his knee. “I never knew you were such a troublemaker Luke.” Teasing him Luke let a groan hiding his face in his hands.

“We just wanted to see what would happen.”

“That’s so cute.”

Though once his story Theo quickly stood up grabbing the mic from her father.

“Y/n if you think that’s bad...let me tell you about how Luke recused bunch of frogs from the high school lab so they wouldn’t be dissected later...Well once he got all ten in his backpack he carried them home. But mom had a party going on and when Luke placed his pack on the ground all the frogs got loose. I remember my dear little brother trying to grab a frog only to trip into mom sending a cake flying at some relative...but you couldn’t stay mad at him for long.”

Stifling a laughter behind your hand you glanced over at Luke who was groaning in his hand.

“How old were you when this happened?” You teased noticing his cheeks were a nice red.

“Twelve.”

Though it didn’t stop their, it seemed like all of the Craig’s wanted in on the action as Nell stepped forward.

She told the story on how a boy teased her so being the good brother he was took a thing of eggs found the boy and tossed it at him, but it end of being the wrong kid. “You should have seen him, skinny Luke standing over this boy slamming the eggs down on him.”

Laughter rang through out room as Luke slumped further in his chair. Turning to her son Olivia gave him a smile. “You’re a good brother Luke.”

“Thanks mom....” Though his eyes went wide as his mother snatched the mic from Nell. Her happily telling the story about ‘little Luke’  would always wear his big boy hat for years even when he slept.  

“It was so cute...my little Luke wearing his big boy hat even when he slept.”

“Kill me now.” Luke groaned out though grasping his hand you placed a small kiss against his stubble cheek. 

“Hush! I’m learning so much about you.” Giving a teasing grin Luke gave you a lopsided smile.

“Oh yea? Like what?” Luke forced himself to stop listing to a story from Steve about he and his older switched out his sisters halloween candy with some sugar free candy.

That got a laugh from Arthur as his three sisters tossed crumpled up napkins at the eldest Crain sibling.

“I learned that you have a mischievous side when you were young, that you still love and care for animals and how good of a brother you are.”

Sighing Luke smiled weaving his fingers through your own, he was lucky to have you. That you said yes and that you were now his wife, leaning over you captured your lips in for a small kiss. “I love you Mrs. Crain.”

Letting your thumb slide over the back of his, you then rested you head on his shoulders as Steve raised his glass, everyone was smiling at you two now. “And I love you too, Mr. Crain.”

Shirley’s eyes softened at the couple as tipped her head to the newlyweds. “To the happy couple, may they create new and embarrassing memories.”

“Cheers!”

Sooo I have a new AU... (Left doodles are digital, right is pencil) In this AU, Nell is Hat Kid’s mom - “Hat Mom”.

After a rather nasty fight, Hat Kid (In this AU, her name is “Arietta” or “Addie”, as she’s frequently called) decides that she needs to prove to her mother that she is capable and proceeds to STEAL THE FAMILY SPACESHIP and travel to the other side of the galaxy to collect and transport time pieces. Obviously Nell is not thrilled, and borrows a family friend’s ship (Thor) to go after her daughter.

Problems only increase once she gets to Earth.

Thor kept odd hours. 

Being an engineer for TIMECO would do that for you. Being on call for emergencies would also do that to you. As well as being eccentric in your own way. He was just always up and about at weird times for the sake of either work or his own creative endeavors. 

So it wasn’t odd that he was up when his communicator started to beep incessantly - usually he was already awake when they needed him for some sort of technical emergency. 

What was odd was the name popping up.

Thor grabbed the communicator and activated the voice call, holding up the communicator to his ear.

“Nell?” 

“Your ship, is it verified for flight?” She started without so much as a hello

“Uh, yeah. I just got the shields working. Why?” 

“Prep the ship” She practically ordered, catching him more off guard than he already was. 

“What? Nell- “ 

“I’ll explain when I get to you just prep the ship!” 

And then his little sister hung up. 

He stared at the communicator with vast amounts of confusion. Nell was not the panicking type. He’d never heard her that frantic, not since his niece was 4 years old and she’d nearly fallen down a staircase. Arieta was the only thing that would get a reaction like that out of his sister. It didn’t bode well. 

He shook his head as if that’d clear it of his concern, and he rushed to his hangar, looking up at the ship, and panting a bit at the exerted energy. 

If she needed it, it’d be ready for the deepest recesses of space.

When Nell arrived, she had nothing more than a single bag… and no Arieta bounding up behind. 

“... Nell, where-” 

“She stole the ship”

Thor couldn’t think of a reaction appropriate to that, giving her an expression that he hoped conveyed the correct amount of bewilderment. 

“I need your ship.” She walked past him into the hangar. 

Thor let the situation sink in and took in a deep breath, following behind her. 

She was already walking onto the ship, not wasting a single second. 

“Nell!” he called down from the entrance, not getting onto the ship. She turned. 

“... The tank is full. Once you're on your way, call me and tell me what’s going on- okay?” He called out, the concern in his face blatant. 

Her expression was cold, perhaps overwhelmed, but she nodded, and the door shut in his face.

Thor was distracted at work, something you should not be when working with proprietary TIMECO TIME Tech, but it couldn’t be helped. His conversation with Nell once she was on her way to chasing her daughter down had left him concerned and stressed. Not nearly as much as his sibling, obviously, but still. He’d taken several breaks already to straighten his head out, but he just was not in it that day. 

“Thor Gracia-Vego” The intercom spoke up “Please come to the office for an audience” 

The engineer sighed. Of course. He couldn’t have an off day without being needled by his boss. 

He went over to the office area, and standing outside the door was his overseer, and the CEO, Tim. That day he was dressed in a button-down shirt and slacks, but his shoes were a more casual style, a bit unusual for the CEO of TIMECO. 

“Thor” The man greeted casually

“Boss” The employee nodded formally “What do you need?” 

“Tellian and Orphei said that you’re distracted.” Tim got right to the point, as always. He was leaning against the wall in an overly casual way. Thor assumed that after 500 years, that sort of decorum becomes less important. 

“... My sister and her daughter are going through some things and I'm concerned” He answered vaguely. It really wasn’t his boss’ business, but Tim was invasive with Employees in the TIME sector. He hoped the answer was sufficient. 

“Ah yes, your sister. AnnaBella, is it?” 

“Yes sir” Thor kept his arms behind his back, but clenched his fist at an unwanted memory. 

“You helped them move to Caprico, yes?” 

Thor nodded “They needed a new start after.. What her partner did, if you recall my request” 

Tim nodded. “I do, and I can understand that. Her daughter is experiencing growing pains I assume? Trying to spread her wings?” 

Thor managed to not look suspiciously at his boss. “... That's a simplified version of it” he responded. 

“Hm. Well, if you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask someone for help. I know your sister is very important to you, and as one of my best engineers, you and your family are entitled to nothing less than all you need” He stated as if reciting a pre-made statement.  

Thor nodded cordially. “I will, but I have faith that Nell can talk it out with her daughter” He confirmed “She’s more than capable of handling some communication issues” 

Tim nodded again “Mhm..” The CEO stood up straight again and out the window with his hands in his pockets “She had a lot of promise as a pilot from a young age. Aced all of her tests. Such a shame she had that accident” He commented offhandedly “Perhaps now she’d be flying directly under my watch, working with you” 

“... It was her decision. What happened to her was very traumatic. I don’t blame her for not wanting to be in that position again after all that.” 

“She made a full recovery and still flies for vacations” Tim pointed out. 

“Everyone handles their baggage differently, boss. She preferred to keep her feet on the ground as much as possible.” Thor pressed, managing to restrain his annoyance at his CEOs odd passive aggression. “Do you need anything else from me?” 

Tim gave Thor a knowing look, then offering a flat smile “Take the rest of the day off, come back tomorrow with a clearer head, hm?” 

Thor gave him a curt nod “Have a good night, boss” 

“You as well, Thor.” Tim waved the man off, and Thor turned on his heel and left, speed walking away as fast as he could.

12. Are they hot-headed or even-tempered? What frustrates them the most?

The way that I describe Jose's temper is that he is slow to anger, but once he's angry he's quick to pick a fight. Jose is a kid who has been picked on and mocked most of his life for his disability and how he looks (The scars) so it takes a lot to set him off (Though, if you want to fast-track to a nasty fight you can insult his family. Be warned he has claws when he goes all dragon-y)

13. What special abilities or talents do they possess? Did they develop through training or were they born with them?

Jose's true talent is at the piano. When he was about 4 years old, he got to play around on a family member's piano, and pestered his family for lessons right after. He showed a serious affinity for it, and burned through teachers in the next few years, and started to teach himself. For his 8th birthday (right before he lost his arm, unfortunately), his parents brought him an antique white grand piano. It's his prized possession and he's even learning how to tune it so they don't have to call a tuner to fix it anymore. It took some time after he got his robotic arm, it took a little time to get used to it, but he got right back on the band wagon.

22. What is something others admire about them? Are they aware that people admire them for this?

I'm sure that this is obvious, but others seriously admire him for his high fashion inclinations. Any time he goes out and about in the magic society, he tends to dress his best if only to look good. He is very aware of this (he's been in magic-focused gossip magazines).

20. How many friends do they have?

... In this particular AU, the only person she talks to is her half-brother, Thor (This is updated canon btw). Shes friendly with others, and she's a decent socialite, but friends-wise? She doesn't really trust anybody well enough. Nell and Arieta moved *because* of issues with people previously considered "friends". Its really on her, but she's pretty okay with being a loner (though her brother who is a hardcore socialite with plenty of friends tries to convince her to go out more)

21. What are they most afraid of? What made them fear this?

They are most afraid of her daughter having a similar experience to her, and she goes out of her way to ensure that this does not happen. (This gets explored in the AU in depth, so I'm not going into detail here)

If Bow Kid is in Hat Mon Nell AU? How is Nell towards Bow?

So, I am still brainstorming how I'd want to fit Bow into this AU, though admittedly I'm a tad stymied. This AU is very much focused on Hat Mom Nell and her daughter's strained relationship mending after a fight Disney-Movie style, so if Bow fits in at all, it'll probably be in a much later part after the initial conflict is resolved, or I could try to squeeze her in, which I don't wanna do because that just seems lazy.

I'm certain I'll think of something though. One of the ideas I have currently is actually really interesting and could work really well for a part two to this AU, so we'll have to wait and see 🤔

So, HM!Nell is very loving and mom-like to Arieta, but isn't really a "mom" type in the traditional sense. She loves being a mother, and she loves her daughter, but its not instinctual. She is very good at parenting though, so uh

what does Mom Nell think about her kid having a ghost as a BFF?

Admittedly she met Snatcher before knowing about the BFF situation and he was already a bit much, but the BFF contract becomes a serious thorn in her side when the already attached tsundere extraordinaire known as the Snatcher decides to use it as an excuse for Hat Kid/Arieta not to leave the planet

This and Arieta's legal status as a bird with documentation and a passport also become a problem down the line which ends up meaning that she NEEDS SNATCHERS LEGAL HELP to register her properly as her daughters mother on paper

Its like adoption. But you are the biological parent and your daughter is a bird.
