The distilled, hysterical rage over JK Rowling having an opinion while being a woman is absolutely a form of ritualistic, hashtagged matricide.

A whole generation of people grew up subsuming themselves to her imaginary world, but when she acknowledged her physical self as something separate from that which existed in their heads, and directly manifested the reality of inhabiting a female existence, an experience which belongs to her and indeed to all women, the revolt was total and brutal.

Mother must always demure, mother must always give more, and above all, mother must never, never exist in a way which contradicts or confounds the inner lives of others with the weight of reality. At the base of it, the anger is simply this:

That she is a woman, that she knows it, and that she dare express it.

That most unforgivable of all sins of woman: Be-ing.
