i just recently moved here to nyc!! (so im by no means a local) I’d say if you want to be in the cutesy part of nyc, greenwich and soho/west village are really cute areas. Lots of good restaurants and little shops and lotsss of wandering potential. brooklyn is where all the good thrifting and flea markets are, and the fun clubs and bars too. upper west and east side are more residential which might not be the tourist vibe you want, but generally you can get anywhere pretty easily by train so you don’t have to be limited! i’d personally avoid staying smack in midtown (think Times Square area) but that’s bc I just don’t like how busy it is there lol
