when the hp reboot comes out i dont want to see anyone bullying the actors. yes, no ones wants this. yes, the money is going to fund transphobic laws and groups. yes, that doesnt give you the right to tell 11 year old children to kill themselves

HBO Harry Potter reboot this, diverse cast that, LGBT rep this, marauders that... Guys, JKR is an executive producer, she's gonna keep it exactly like her books. As much as I would love a black Hermione and a Desi bisexual Harry and canon wolfstar and an explicitly gay Dumbledore and everything, this is JKR we're talking about. Let's all face the truth, she's pushing for this reboot because she's mad the original cast is pro trans rights and wants to erase them from hp pop culture. The biggest difference might be Peeves being included.

Sign the petition - No, HBO: Don’t Platform Transphobia!
I spent years in the Harry Potter fandom. Those books brought me comfort, joy, and friends from around the world. I spent countless hours reading, watching the films, attending the cons, and creating art and community online and off. My life wouldn’t be the same without Harry Potter. For all those reasons, I wish I could be excited about the @hbomax TV show - but I can’t.
We do not want this show. JKR’s anti-trans rhetoric is helping fuel a movement that is getting trans people harassed, alienated, and killed. Creating a Harry Potter TV now adds legitimacy and support to her hateful, harmful, wrong beliefs.
We will not watch this show. Fans have written an open letter to HBO telling them to cancel the show. I hope you’ll read it, and join me in signing to say HBO, No: Don’t Platform Transphobia!

The fact we're getting another adaptation of Harry Potter because Rowling is a transphobic drama queen, but we don't have a single adaptation of Skullduggery Pleasant should be a crime.

PJO fans could never 🥱🥱🥱
like y’all have fun crying with snot running down your nose, we will be over here happily enjoying our Black Annebeth and Brown Grover.

The only reason I’ll accept the HBO Harry Potter remake is if Ben Barnes and Andrew Garfield play Sirius Black and Remus Lupin

am i gonna be cancelled for saying i want absolutely no forced representation, race and/or sexuality changes in the harry potter hbo show just for the sake of it? just shape the character the way they truly are not to impress some twitter holding democrat wannabe 13 year old.

i have a few things to say about the new harry potter tv series thats coming up.
one, jk rowling sucks and does not deserve any more money so if you watch it, pirate it.
two, millions of childhoods, as well as my own, were formed on the books and the movies, and it is going to take an incredible feat in casting choices to convince people that anybody other than the original cast can be those characters.
three, as fun as it would be i think the series has to be devoid of callbacks to the original movies, like zero cameos or references or anything. the series has to exist as its own entity, its inevitable that people are gonna compare the two series’ but it would only be more criticized if there are a lot of purposeful similarities

Baghra has that Hogwarts professor vibe, with her robes, no nonsense attitude, and caustic vibe. Plus, she's sort of technically the Grisha's instructor too so that works.

And I mean, look at her! To quote Ben Barnes and Jessie Mei Li, she's a legend.

what makes a “good” adaptation is very complicated, but we as a society need to move past the idea that “good adaptation” = identical to the source material

We should start a petition to make Ben Barnes play Sirius Black and Andrew Garfield Remus Lupin in the HP reboot. (and make them act like they r in love even if its not scripted🤭)

isn’t the new hp show animated? i haven’t really done any research on it, that’s just what i heard
Oh, I sincerely hope so.
I hadn't heard about this, but then, I've not been doing much of any research about the series either. But honestly, this is the best possible decision they could have made if it is indeed true.
First of all, it helps this series stand out from the films. Makes it more memorable and less prone to comparison. Second, it opens up many more doorways for things they might have otherwise cut, and in general it just means that the events from the book will be depicted more properly as animation provides more potential as a medium for some of these scenes. (Apparently the Elves were really annoying to create on the big screen.)
But something else that occurs to me is - animation as a medium just isn't taken seriously most of the time, and when popular authors/franchises dip their toes into animated adaptations...it helps, it really helps. Coraline could have been live action, for instance, but I'm so glad it wasn't. Then there are the Grinch adaptations. I think we can all agree that Doctor Seuss films need to just stick to being cartoons.
