while hallucinating about barty, i thought of something (i still have to decide if it makes sense or not). generally, we tend to paint barty as the exact opposite of his father, but i think that after all, at their core, they are conceptually similar.
starting from this assumption, i don't think barty was so disdainful of the idea of becoming a politician. i can imagine him developing an interest in politics from an early age, and discussing major politcal events at 13 in the ravenclaw common room with the seventh year students. i can imagine him at 60 with a newspaper in his hands, smoking a cigar and complaining about how the government of the nation has progressively worsened. in the end, i think barty's greatest sin was just this: he was a political enthusiast who decided to take action.
throughout the fourth book, he never uses (he never lets slip) insults towards muggle-borns or half-bloods, but he does let slip criticism of the ministry several times. probably, already at the time of the first war the ministry was seen as a group of wimps (reason why, to fight the death daters, was created the order). obviously in this feeling of discontent and need for revolution the death eaters could not show up without a plan to drastically change the government of the nation. it didn't even matter if they were fascists, people just wanted solid promises and inspiration, and in general the much needed and desired change!!
i think that over time barty started to hate the ministry so much that he even started hating his father, but only because he was a a motivated and enterprising young man, a revolutionary whose wings have been ripped off, raised in general discontent but still determined to act to save his future. maybe, if there hadn't been the death eaters, he would have blown up all the windows of the ministry of magic with a very big bombarda and he would have smeared the statue at the entrance with paint. he would have found another way.
