Owen walked into the house after just getting back from running an errand for Amelia. With a sigh, he took his coat off and hung it up, then laid his keys down on the table by the door. He looked around the dark room for a minute before making his way to their bedroom, ice cream in hand. By now, Owen was pretty sure it was past midnight and he knew he looked crazy going to the only store in town that was open 24/7 just to get his wife a tub of ice cream. At this hour, he was crazy for going anywhere, but his wife was pregnant and he knew her hormones were going crazy and Owen really didn’t want to deal with her pouting if he’d told her no. Her pregnancy cravings were on high alert at this point. During the first few months of her pregnancy, she was fine; just little cravings here and there, but now, even when she was so far along, her cravings were taking over, Owen was sure of it. Amelia had him going out at all hours of the night just to get her whatever it was she was craving that night. It changed so much, he couldn’t keep up with it anymore. This time, it just happened to be mint chocolate chip ice cream. Which wasn’t weird for her; she ate it all the time, even before she got pregnant, but still.

When he walked into their bedroom, Owen stopped at the door, his eyes going wide at the sight. There were candles everywhere, rose petals on the floor and the bed (which he figured was more for her than for him), and Amelia was sitting in the middle of the bed, wearing nothing but one of his t-shirts. When she saw him, the smile on her face grew wider, exposing her dimples. God, he loved those dimples. Owen couldn’t help the small laugh that escaped his lips at the sight. “What is all of this?” He asked softly as he walked a few more steps into the room.

Amelia kept the smile on her face as she tucked her hair behind her ears and watched him as he closed the door behind him. “This is me trying to be sexy. But, considering I’m nine months pregnant, it’s not working very well.” She said with a small laugh.

Owen laughed again as he took her in; he still couldn’t believe she had done all of this in just a matter of twenty minutes. “Is this why you sent me to the store?” He asked her quietly as he set the ice cream tub down on the dresser.

“I had to do something to get you out of here until I was done. I couldn’t exactly put all of this together while you were here, could I?” Amelia asked, the smiled never leaving her face.

“I guess not. But, what’s the occasion?”

Amelia took a deep breath and glanced at her watch. 11:59pm. She smiled again and looked up at him. “Give me a minute.” She said quietly. When she saw the confused look on his face, she held up a finger as she looked back down at her watch. When it switched over to 12:00am, her smile grew wider as she looked up at him. “It’s midnight. Which means it is officially your birthday.” She said sweetly. “I may be nine months pregnant and not sexy at all, but I can still give you my full love and attention for the next 24 hours.”

Owen smiled and shook his head at her words. How did he get so lucky with her? She was amazing and she made him fall more in love with her each day. He made his way over to their bed and climbed in beside her after slipping his shoes off. “That’s all I could ever ask for.” He whispered softly before leaning forward and kissing her lips, softly and sweetly.

Amelia smiled against his lips as she moved her hand to cup his cheek. When he pulled back, she opened her eyes and met his as she tried to catch her breath. His kisses always left her breathless. “Happy birthday, Owen.” She whispered. “I love you.”

Owen woke up the next morning and stretched before sitting up and looking around the room. The candles were still placed where they had been the night before, but they weren’t lit anymore, and the rose petals were still everywhere. He told Amelia he’d clean all of it up, so she didn’t have to worry about it. Speaking of Amelia... Owen furrowed his brow when he looked over to her side of the bed and saw it empty. He glanced at the time on his watch and sighed when he realized what time it was. 9:38am. He was usually up by now, even on his day off, but then again, he and Amelia were up until almost 3am the night before doing everything but sleeping. He told her he wanted to be careful because she was so far along, but Amelia convinced him that just because she was nine months pregnant, it didn’t mean she couldn’t have sex. It was kind of amazing, too. He would never doubt her like that again.

Owen took a deep breath and got up out of bed. He went to the bathroom to make sure she wasn’t in there, and when he didn’t find her, he made his way to the kitchen. As soon as he opened the bedroom door, he smelled the food burning and he couldn’t help but smile. Amelia could not cook. No matter how hard she tried. It made him feel bad because she tried so hard for him, especially on special occasions like this, but she just couldn’t get the hang of it. Owen rushed to the kitchen when he heard what sounded like glass breaking. When he walked into the room, he saw Amelia standing over the sink, cursing under her breath as she tried to clean up the broken plate. He walked over to her and took her hands gently, moving them away from the broken glass. “You’ll get cut. Let me do it.” He said gently.

Amelia sighed as she looked up at him and rested her hands on her bump. “I’m sorry. I was just trying to make you breakfast for once. I didn’t mean to break the plate. I was trying to get your favorite coffee mug down but the plate fell and I–“

“It’s okay. You don’t need to apologize. It’s an ugly plate anyway.” Owen responded with a gentle smile. “Go sit. I’ll finish up here.” He said.

“Owen, no. It’s your birthday. I want to do this for you.” Amelia pouted.

“I know. But you and I both know that you can’t cook. And it’s fine. You don’t need to be in here standing on your feet for such a long time.” Owen said with a small smile.

Amelia pouted again, but her pout quickly turned into a smile when Owen kissed her nose. “Okay, fine. But I’m gonna sit here and watch you. I’m going to learn one way or another. And one of these days, I’m going to make you the best–“

When she stopped talking and Owen heard her inhale sharply, he turned around and looked at her. “What is it? What’s wrong?” He asked, immediately at her side.

Amelia took a deep breath and rested one of her hands on her stomach, her other hand going to rest on his shoulder. “I, um.. I’m pretty sure my water just broke.” She whispered.

“Alright, you’re at eight. Almost there.” Arizona said as she took her gloves off after examining Amelia.

“She’s at eight already? We just came in a few hours ago...” Owen said, his voice full of worry. He had never done this before so it was new to him, but he knew that usually labor took hours, even days to progress. Arizona said Amelia was already a two when she got to the hospital, but still. She went from a two to an eight in three hours? It seemed impossible.

Arizona noticed the worry in his voice and she smiled gently at him. “No worries. This is good. It means your baby’s ready to come out. Which is a good thing considering you’re past your due date.” She said as she rested her hand on Amelia’s leg.

“Is there anything we need to be worried about? Is the baby breech? What if there’s something wrong?” Owen asked. He saw the look on Amelia’s face and he immediately reached over to take her hand. “I’m sorry, I’m not trying to scare you. I just want to know everything.”

“Of course you do. That’s perfectly normal. Especially for first time parents.” Arizona replied with a small smile. She walked up closer to Amelia and rested her hand on her stomach. “From what I can feel, your baby is just fine. It’s in the right position, and I would know if there were any complications.” She said quietly. “Don’t worry so much.”

Owen took a deep breath and nodded as Amelia squeezed his hand. When he looked at her, she gave him a small smile and he smiled back before he looked at Arizona again. “Okay. I’ll try.” He said softly.

Arizona smiled and winked at Amelia before she walked to the door. “Hang in there. I’ll come check on you in just a bit.” She said before she walked out of the room.

“Alright, are we ready to have this baby?” Arizona said cheerfully as she walked into the room, gown and gloves on.

Amelia couldn’t help but smile at her cheerfulness. She was always like that, no matter what. It was inspiring and annoying all at the same time, but Amelia loved her. She was her best friend. “We are so ready to have this baby,” Amelia responded with a smile as she looked at Owen, who still had her hand in his. He offered her a smile, but didn’t say anything. He was nervous, she knew, and that was to be expected, because she was too. She was the one who had to do all the pushing.

“Okay.” Arizona said as she sat down on the stool in front of Amelia’s bed. She moved the blanket up a little more on her legs so she could see. “Okay, this baby is definitely ready to meet you.” She said with a smile.

“What? What do you mean?” Amelia asked, squeezing Owen’s hand.

Arizona looked up at her and smiled, “I can see your baby’s head.” She said. “So, I’m going to need you give me one big push, and that should be it.” She said softly. “Maybe two. I’ll let you know.” She said with a small laugh. “You ready?” Amelia smiled and nodded as she held onto Owen’s hand. “Okay, push.” Arizona told her softly.

Amelia squeezed Owen’s hand tightly as she pushed, gripping the handle on the side of the bed with her free hand. She had a pretty high pain tolerance, but this was the worst pain she had ever felt in her life. She had told Arizona, though, that she didn’t want painkillers. When Arizona told her to stop, she let out the breath she had been holding and laid back against her pillow, breathing heavily. “What is it?” She asked, trying to catch her breath. “Is something wrong?”

“No, not at all.” Arizona said. “But, I am going to need one more tiny push.” She said with a smile. “Whenever you’re ready.”

Amelia nodded and took a deep breath. She closed her eyes for a minute before she started pushing again. When she heard their baby’s cry, she let out a breath of relief and relaxed back against the bed. Arizona smiled as she held their baby. “Owen, do you want to cut the cord?” She asked.

“Yeah,” Owen said with a smile as he let go of Amelia’s hand. He took the scissors and cut the umbilical cord, then handed them back the nurse as he looked down at his baby, the smiled never leaving his face. Arizona wrapped the baby in a blanket and handed it to Owen gently as she cleaned Amelia up and made sure everything was okay. Owen walked back up to where he had been standing before and looked down at his wife. He bent down and laid their baby in her arms gently, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. “You did so good.” He whispered. “I’m so proud of you.”

Amelia smiled up at him as she held their baby in her arms. When she looked down, she let out the breath she didn’t know she was holding. “Welcome to the world, baby boy.” She whispered. “We love you so much.” Amelia leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to his tiny forehead, then she looked up at her husband and smiled wide. “Happy birthday, Daddy.”
