I’ve seen a lot of discourse over the Jikook Car Convo. I think on the surface, it sent mixed signals. But if you think about what you know about Jikook and how important being together is to them…there might be a different way to look at it. Jungkook started off by saying something about how they were supposed to have a drink together (code for hang out), but didn’t …and it went on from there. And that’s where people got hung up at. I have a perspective on this based on a recent experience of my own.
Recently, my daughter and I decided to take a trip to Disney World because I had a business trip down there anyway. (Adult Disney is a blast btw. Great food, drinks, Epcot, Disney Springs, etc). On the car trip down we talked a mile a minute. During the trip we ate and drank and hung out. So fun! We literally said the words “it’s been so long since we’ve been able to just hang out. We haven’t gone anywhere fun together in a while. We’ve been so busy with work and just life in general. I’m glad we are taking time out to have some fun!” Interestingly….my daughter lives with me. I see her every day. But the trip was fun time spent together, not just the day-to-day stuff. We weren’t two ships passing in the night, two ultra busy people who work, eat, sleep and repeat. We were in the moment, having fun together, no distractions! (Yes, It’s a mom/daughter relationship instead of a couple relationship, but still. Spending quality FUN time together to nurture a relationship is important!)
I wonder if Jikook, who have since confirmed that they saw each other during that time (but clearly not enough)….meant that they hadn’t been taking much needed down time with each other, hadn’t been able to step out for some drinks or other fun for a while because they’ve both had opposing schedules and have just been so busy. I felt like Jungkook was sort of admonishing Jimin for being too busy to have fun…but then admitted that he had also been too busy…that if it wasn’t for deciding to MAKE TIME and take this trip, they might have just continued being too busy to prioritize quality time with each other. Then he said “You’re here. Finally”. Like that boy breathed a sigh of RELIEF!
That’s what I think this convo meant. Its NOT that they didn’t see each other, because I’m betting they saw each other all of the time, but that they didn’t make time to have fun with JUST each other like they usually do.
And here’s the deal. You don’t end up going on MORE trips, saying you want to do a travel show together until your fifty, and enlisting together where you will be together every single day for 18 months….with someone you were not close with and never saw prior to this convo. You don’t go from “no longer close” to this 👇 in a day.
Nope. So I think the car convo was them sort of lamenting that they had been so busy and had made the mistake of not taking the time for each other that they deserved. Listen, Jikook are normal humans who love each other, but let their crazy busy schedule get in the way. Very unusual for them I think. But they finally said ENOUGH, and decided to make time, steal time, whatever, just to prioritize themselves as a unit. I loved the show. I saw lots of domestic moments, lots of fun/giggly moments, some 👀 and 🫣 moments….but most of all, I saw happiness. I saw love. And THAT makes me happy. So anyone that says Jikook aren’t close or that they don’t love each other….pfft. 🙄

soft ode thoughts 💭
· he is the physical-touch-love-language KING
· he would give you massages when youre feeling tense or overworked. and he's so good at it. obvs he's very physically strong, but hes also very intentional in how he touches you because he knows too much strength in a sensitive area or too little strength at a very tense area isn't good!!!
· i think he loves spoiling you more so than any other member😭
· what can i say... he just gets it
· he brings you a bouquet of roses whenever there's a special event or celebration for you... hell even when there's not an event
· since he's also super into self care he would 100% take your makeup off for you if you ask, possibly coming home from a late dinner date and you're too tired to move
· (he probably does an even better job than you do at it tbh.......)
· he has a photo of your pinkies interlocked as his lockscreen. he took it on a whim but it's his favorite picture because it summarizes your relationship so much, with his hand in yours, comfortable and happy
· two words: matching outfits
· and not in the disney adults visiting epcot for the first time way, i mean sometimes you guys go out together looking right out of a vogue editorial. you both know how to work with colors, textures, materials and silhouettes to create the Perfect™ matching(and/or similarly styled) outfits
· quite literally the most stylish couple ever i think!!!!
· he's also very adaptable (gemini pride‼️) and even though he likes dressing up and going out with you, if you're not feeling it that day he's more than happy to have a night in with you and put on a movie :)
· i think he's one of the most patient out of the members because his ultimate goal is to just be a support for you, and he does that through acts of service and gift giving. he really does enjoy taking care of you !!!
· and it never feels overbearing or forced, i think he finds a lot of enjoyment in seeing his loved ones happy, especially if he's the source of that. its sort of like a game to him to figure out exactly what his loved ones like, he's the type of person to remember a super small detail about something you wanted in passing, and then show up with that exact thing the next time he sees you
· it embarrasses him when you scold him for being too giving/too kind, and you frequently have to sit him down and give HIM massages and presents because he doesn't realize how hard he works!!!
· you make sure this man knows he's loved and his efforts go noticed
· just in general, whatever he can do in his power he would do it for you🥺
#NGL I GOT CARRIED AWAY ON THIS ONE#i cant help it i love osumi so much🥺#xdh imagines#xdh x reader#xdinary heroes x reader#xdinary heroes imagines#ode x reader#riya lovemail#— plutoenjoyer 𓇬

A Disney Trip with Mick Schumacher
- I am very much convinced that Mick would greatly enjoy Disney World - He is literally a walking Disney prince - If you had ever gone to Disney before or were a Disney gal he would trust you completely with the planning - Mick's favorite park is probably Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios - I feel like he would get mouse ears or those baseball hats that have the Mickey ears on them heck, maybe even one of those sorcerer Mickey hats - Mick + Dole whips = a love stronger than superglue - He is constantly pulling you around wanting to show you things he sees - "Y/N did you see that little girl dressed as Elsa? I can't wait till we have some of our own" - Mick is the type of man that if he saw a mom struggling to get her stroller onto the Monarail, boat, bus, skyliner, or whatever you know he is going to help - Gets a map in every park even though you tell him he doesn't need one because you know your way around - Loves turning on the TV when y'all get back from the parks for a break or even for the night and just snuggling up with you - He gets recognized while you guys are stopped getting candy apples and you offer to take the picture - "You know that's what I love about you" "What?" "You don't care if I'm with you when fans see me because you're so caring you want them to be happy too and I know I am so lucky to have a girl with the sweetest heart" - You attempt to drink around the world at Epcot and Mick has to carry you back to by the time you reach the France pavilion - "Babe do you think I can eat four churros at once?" - Mick definitely has a mild breeding kink because after all he is a huge family man so let's just say seeing all those families around and you in your happy place he is dragging you back to the hotel many times during the trip - I need to see this man hug Donald Duck, it's a bucket list item - You would be sending his mom all the photos you guys take - He wraps his arms around during the fireworks - You make an off handed comment about wishing they had they new Figment hoodie in your size only to come back to the hotel room later that night to find it waiting for you, you know Mick had something to with it - You love going on the Peoplemover with him and just taking in tomorrowland - Mick isn't huge on PDA, but he loves holding your hand as you drag him through the crowds to get where you're going - He giggles like a kid while riding the Dinosaur ride with you in Animal Kingdom - You bend down for two seconds to tie your shoe lace and somehow he has a mickey bar in his hands already

Love Online Chapter 21
Warnings: none just sweet, and fluff and lots of pics
The next morning Merida woke up and looked down at Chris who was still sound asleep snoring with his arm over her. She smiled and looked down at her hand and the ring on her left finger. She still couldn't believe it. She was engaged. It seemed like a dream come true. Then grabs her phone from beside her and looks at Instagram.
Fangirl#2 Awwwwww 🥰☺️That is so sweet and so romantic! That ring is beautiful! I am so happy for them. Congradualations to you both!
Fangirl #3 OMG!! That is so romantic! I am so happy for them! I wish them all the best! Congratulations Chris and Merida!
Fangirl #4 What!!! No!!! Chris what are you thinking? She's not right for you! Please no!!! You can't marry her? Why?? 😭😭😭😭💔💔
Fangirl #5 I am so happy for Chris and Merida. They are the cutest couple ever! They both look so happy! @Fangirl #4 He's happy! Why is she not right for him? Please stop with the negative comments. Chris asked you to stop! He's happy let him be! He deserves to be happy! So please let them be and stop! If you don't, I will report you!
Fangirl #3 @Fangirl#5 Yes me too! Please leave them alone! Chris is happy. He is the happiest I have ever seen him! They love each other. They both deserve to be happy!
Merida smiles looking at the post. Most of the comments were sweet and then the one that wasn't the others were taking up for them. She wanted to cry. She gets on her account and posts.
Disneydoggrl83 ❤️- I know it's been a while since I posted anything. But life has been crazy busy lately! But life couldn't be better! I got engaged last night! Yes engaged! I am getting married! It was the best proposal ever! It was romantic and so sweet! Afterwards we watched the electrical parade and took pictures in front of the castle. Here are some pics I took and one that was taken for us.
Merida has just finished posting her pictures and posted it to Instagram when Chris stirs beside her. He looks up at her.
"Good morning my beautiful fiancé."
Merida smiles.
"Good morning."
"What are you doing?" He asks sitting up and laying his head on her chest.
"Looking at Instagram and writing a new post."
"Oh? What did you post?"
Merida shows him what she posted.
"Aww babe, I'm glad you're happy and you liked it so much."
"I really did. Chris you're the best. There was also another post."
"What was that?"
Merida shows him the other post and he sees all the comments.
"Wow! There is still that one girl who just isn't happy about us."
"I know but the girls keep defending us and saying they will report her if she doesn't stop."
"Yeah."
"So, what are we doing today?"
"All of us are going to Epcot."
"All of us? You mean us and your family?"
"Yes, and your dad."
"Okay that sounds fun."
"We should probably get ready we are meeting them in lobby at 9."
Merida looks at the time on her phone. "That's in an hour!"
"You better go get ready then." Chris says looking up at her.
Merida sets her phone on the bedside table and gets ready to get up, but Chris pulls her back.
"Chris, I need to get ready."
"I love you."
"I love you too." She says leaning down and kissing him. "Now let me get ready.
Chris sits up and Merida heads into the bathroom. Chris picks up his phone from his side table. He sends a text to Scott
Chris-She is getting ready. We will meet you soon. Everything all set?
A few minutes later Chris gets a text back
Scott-Almost. Working on it. We will see you soon!
Chris-Okay let me know. See you in a bit
Chris pulls up Instagram and looks through all the comments. All of them are good except that one girl. He likes Merida's post and makes a comment
liked
I am so glad you loved it babe. I love you so much! I can't wait to marry you! You are the best! I love these pics too by the way! But just you wait. More to come. ☺️❤️🥰
Chris then hears Merida's phone go off. He wants to check it but decides not to, but when it goes off a second time, he decides to pick it up. He leans over and grabs it from her side table. He sees a text from Tiffany and a notification from Instagram that he had commented on her post. He doesn't open the text. He lays the phone back on the table and sets his phone on the bed and goes to his suitcase to look for something to wear. He is still looking through his suitcase when Merida walks out of the bathroom.
"Chris?"
"Yeah babe?" He asks not looking up.
"Will I be okay in this? I won't get cold will I?"
Chris looks up at her and smiles. "You should be okay. If you get cold, I can keep you warm." He smiles.
Merida laughs. "What are you wearing."
"Not sure. Trying to find something."
"Do you have that blue and black stripped shirt with you?"
"Uh...I think so."
"Wear that. I love that shirt on you."
Chris smiles. "Okay babe."
Chris finds the shirt and grabs his pants and boxers and stands up.
"I'm going get a shower." He leans towards her and kisses her.
He heads towards the bathroom then stops at the door and turns "Oh your phone went off. You got a text from Tiffany. I don't know what she said. I didn't read it." He turns and heads into the bathroom and clothes the door.
Merida walks over the bedside table and pics up her phone. She opens the text
Tiffany-Hey girl! I saw the post on Instagram and saw your post! Wow girl! I am so excited! That looks so romantic! I wish I could have been there! I am so happy for you! I can't wait to help you plan it! Also, Dixie misses you. Here are some pics I have taken.
I took this pic this morning after we took a walk
this was last night before we went to bed.
I took this one this morning before we got up. I gave her that giraffe and she loves it
Merida-Aww thanks Tiff. I am excited too! I still can't believe I'm engaged! I can't stop looking at my ring. I love these pics! I miss my girl. That last pic is just precious. Thanks for taking such good care of her! Love ya girl.
Merida then checks her Instagram and sees that Chris has liked and commented her post. She smiles when she reads his comment. She then sees two more comments
scottevansgram-Love these pics! I can't wait for you to be my sister-in-law! You're the best ever and make Chris so happy! I'll see you later sis!☺️
LoveableTiff 💕-Awww!!!🥺☺️So happy for you girl! I can't wait!! Eeek!!! You're engaged to Chris Evans!!! I still can't over it! Your engaged!! Love ya bff! ☺️❤️
Merida then hears Chris's phone go off. She sees its on the bed. She happens to see it's a message from Scott and all she sees is
Scott-Operation Ever After is all set!
Merida sees the text and wonders what Scott is talking about. She looks at her phone and sees another message from Tiffany
Tiffany-I thought you would like them. Have fun! I can't wait to see all your pics when you get back and hear about that wonderful proposal!
She is about to respond when she feels arms wrap around her.
"Whatcha doing babe?"
"Answering a text from Tiffany. She sent me the cutest pics of Dixie."
"Can I see?"
"Hang on let me answer really quick."
Merida-☺️I know I will! I can't wait to tell you all about it! Girls weekend in the works when I get back! It was the best proposal ever! He is the best boyfriend, well fiancé ever! I will take lots of pics. We are going to Epcot soon with his family! Talk to you later. Love ya!
"Best proposal ever huh?"
Merida smiles. She sets her phone on the table and turns and wraps her arms around him.
"Yes. You are the best. I love you so much Chris."
"I love you too babe. Are you ready to go?"
"Almost. I just need to brush my teeth really quick. I forgot." She pulls away from Chris and starts to walk towards the bathroom then turns and says "Oh and your phone went off. It was Scott."
"Oh, did you see the message?"
Merida bites her lip.
"Babe, why are you biting your lip?"
"Because I..."
"You did read it?"
"I didn't open it I just saw what it said when it popped on the screen. I have no idea what it's about. All I saw was operation ever after is set. Whatever that means."
Chris laughs and grabs her hand pulls her back to him. "You are so cute when you do that. You know that? God I just love you so freaking much! It's okay babe. I'm not mad."
"You won't tell me what that text is about will you?"
"Nope, that's a surprise. You will find out soon."
"I didn't think so. Alright let me go brush my teeth."
"Okay." Chris gives her a quick kiss then she turns and heads towards the bathroom.
Chris picks up his phone and sends Scott a message back.
Chris-Merida saw your text but don't worry she knows nothing. It's still a surprise. She doesn't suspect a thing! 😉☺️
Within minutes Scott messages back
Scott-Okay good! We are in the lobby waiting. ☺️
Chris-Okay be there soon. She is brushing her teeth.
Merida walks back into room.
"I'm all ready now. I just need to grab my phone."
Merida heads over to the table and picks up her phone.
"Oh I never showed the pics of Dixie."
"Show me later. Everyone is waiting for us in the lobby."
Chris puts his phone in his back pocket and picks up the card key off the coffee and then grabs Merida's hand and they leave their room and head towards the elevator. Here is what he is wearing but it's jeans instead of these pants

The Just Dancers at Disney World because I’m at Disney World
Wanderlust: He would LOVE Disney. Every time I go on a ride I think Wander would love it. He’s such a Disney adult, he’ll wear cheesy t-shirts and go all the time and he would just love it all. His favorite park would be Epcot and he would LOVE Soarin. That boy could go on Soarin 30 times in a row and still be just as amazed as he was the first time. Everyone loves going with him because he’s more excited than every little kid there. He also LOVES meeting the princesses, he insists he has to meet every single one. Does his little bow to them. They love him.
Sara: Also a Disney adult, but a slightly different breed. She disneybounds and collects ears and takes a billion pictures for her Instagram. Her and Wanderlust drop everything when they walk past a dance party. Also loves meeting the characters but she’s more a fan of the fur characters, she loves getting hugs from Mickey and Winnie the Pooh
Brezziana: she’s a thrill seeker, she prefers Universal but she can enjoy Disney. Has to hit all the coasters before they leave. Gets super competitive on Space Ranger Spin and Toy Story Mania and absolutely crushes everyone. Carries a ton of water bottles in her backpack because she knows the others will forget to drink water (looking at you, Wanderlust) and she needs to make sure everyone is hydrated. Is the last one to pass out at the end of the day.
Mihaly: Is perfectly content just walking around and looking at everything. They LOVE the theming and all the little details. They’re not enough of a fan to have all the fun facts memorized, but they love listening to Wanderlust ramble on and on about them. Genuinely thinks they’re so cool. Loves watching the fireworks, they’re all exhausted by the end of the day but Mihaly perks up just in time to fully appreciate them. They might shed a tear.
Jack Rose: Has a lovely time but doesn’t show it. He also loves meeting the princesses, he won’t admit it though. Mostly it’s the childlike joy but also he likes watching Wander interact with them. He also gets crushes on like half the princes (Wander says he has a type). He’s a big fan of the parades and the shows, but really he just likes everything. Night Swan would never let him go to Disney when he was little so he’s just so happy to be there. But of course if anyone asks him he’s just like “yeah it’s cool”, he doesn’t know how else to express himself
#every time I go to Disney I think about Jack and Wanderlust#and I’m an annual passholder who lives an hour away so that’s a lot#I just think Wander would really love everything at Disney#once again I’m talking about Wanderlust way too much#just dance 2023#just dance

I try not to be superstitious bc that's just begging for OCD insanity but one thing I am really strict on is how my NYE goes bc it somehow always reflects how my year is gonna go
This year I got to hang out w my baby brother all night, had drinks, watched the Epcot fireworks
When I pulled the champagne out a little early to make it easier to open I took the gold tab off and went to say something to my mother. When I walked away the cork just
Shot itself out of the bottle
No mess, it didn't even foam over, nothing was broken the bottle was just open now which was hilarious
Did have to scramble a little to get drinks poured bc brother and I were busy yapping and smoking outside but even when I was rushing I got 3 glasses poured, no mess, and even tho my poor baby brother was having a moment(drank a little too much gin for his delicate stomach. He ended up totes ok he gets sick stupid easy) I had a glass in my and my mother's hand and cheers as it hit midnight
I immediately got texts from some of my best friends in the world saying happy new year and we all love each other
I couldn't have asked for a better new years eve after how this year went. Brother and I even woke up w 0 hang over so that's iconic
I think this year is heading for my planning and determination is going to pay off. Might not be entirely what was expected and I might get a little caught up but I can and will get it ironed out and back on track. And I'll finally be surrounded by people who love me instead of isolated from everyone I've ever known bc of the whim of someone else.
I have so much I am going to achieve this year. I finally feel like I can actually do it. Terrified for sure. But it's gonna be done bc I and the people around me deserve it .
Anyway sorry for long dumb sappy post I just needed to write this down and let myself feel a little hopeful for the coming year. It's not always gonna go to plan but dammit if it's not gonna work out anyway
#sorry this ks so dumb#but NYE means alot to me#and i feel so happy and content w how last night we t

Okay so here's a funny tradition my family kinda got sprung onto us by our American friends.
So I am German and so is the rest of my family besides my dad the American.
When we moved to the United States and my mom started making Friends here one of these friends got real excited to discuss topics about different cultures and traditions and other related topics.
No problem! My mom was happy to share.
Well one topic came up revolving holidays and how we celebrate different Christmas's.
Well the American friend was happy to ask my mom about the pickle thing.
"What pickle thing?" My mom inquiries.
"Oh you know the whole like putting a pickle ornament on the Christmas tree! Isn't that a German thing?" The American friend asks.
"The WHAT!"
Long story short the American friend assumed that all German People just put Pickle ornaments on trees during the holidays because of her experience at Epcot. You know the theme park.
Well my mom had a good laugh about it and when we all had our excursion down to good Ol' epcot low and behold there was a stand selling Pickle ornaments and yes my mom did get one.
Now every Christmas my family makes it a game to "find the pickle on the Christmas tree" and who ever finds it first between me and my siblings that person gets to open one gift the night of Christmas eve. (Usually its just a movie or a book maybe some candy but its still fun!)
#random#just completley random#idk#christmas#does any other german gave this experiance of being told we puy pickles on vhristmas trees?#apparently this is more common than I had thought#also where did this even ome from?#where did you people get the idea of pickles! of all things being on christmas trees?#was is just epcot!

@cxnscience asked: 20, 35, aaaand 85
20. Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom? My girlfriend Hollywood Studios and I are having an ugly fight right now about how she keeps trying to reinvent herself but then she burns everything that was still good about herself. So since we're on a break I guess it's Animal Kingdom since they at least have Merry Menagerie. Also there's no sign of us getting Citizens of Hollywood back yet. Or really much of any of the fulltime entertainment that there was. Or I could just go spend my time in Epcot and Magic Kingdom. Again, ugly fight with my girlfriend and I hope we can fix it but it's not looking good. Streets of America was the first hit to me but I was willing to overlook that and now we're REALLY pushing it.
35. Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party or Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party? This is really really tough. I love Boo to You. I love that parade. The energy is amazing. But I actually like Very Merry's actual party and the food. And parades do not make the entire party but Boo to You is... amazing. Really amazing. It's good and for those who haven't seen it? Nah that parade is like a party within itself. It's GOOD. My fiancé had one of the Haunted Mansion Dancers get up in his face and then, to the music, wish him a happy birthday cause yep it was his birthday. He had no idea that this is how a parade can potentially get. Oogie Boogie gave us a private dance moment. But the rest of the party isn't as wild as the parade is. The food is good but it's just good. The trick or treating is just standard candy you can get at home. And the character roster in both parties have been cut. So maybe it is Not so Scary begrudgingly. It seems like new things are being added each year... though THEY KEEP TAKING. I'd probably keep my eye on Jollywood Nights, to be honest. Cause um. Jiminy and Pinocchio are there. >.> I brake for characters that are pre 1960.
85. Wishes or Illuminations? Wishes my beloved and you KNOW I would answer this. Hell I answered these out of order. Some pieces from Wishes are on the playlist I use to relax/sleep with. So uh. I got bitten by the Disney Parks bug when I decided I was tired of people stealing my birthdays to do things for themselves. I said forget it and I went there to celebrate my 21st. I was on new medication for my migraines so no Drink Around the World. But I asked if I could, for my gift, I could do Cinderella's Royal Table. And somehow we had wandered into really great spots to sit, relax, and watch Wishes. That was it. And I already had an emotional attachment to Jiminy Cricket ANYWAY. I already loved the Blue Fairy ANYWAY. So I just sat there and... yeah. And then right as the park was emptying out I excused myself, got the cd, and that was it. Favorite fireworks show. Still gets me when I play the music. I'm still crying over it.

My Curse
I really can't exactly pinpoint when I was cursed. I just knew something wasn't right when I lost my phone for the third time while working at Disney World as an intern for nine months.
It was 2011 and I had finished my first semester of college the December before. During the summer between my Senior year in High School and my first semester at CCRI my sister asked if I had ever heard of the Disney College Program (or DCP). Since I was a theatre major I thought it was a dream come true to work for one of the biggest names in entertainment. I applied that night with my sisters help, had my phone interview and waited by the mailbox everyday for an acceptance letter. I told them I would like to work on rides, be a Jungle Cruise Skipper or one of the actors on The Great Movie Ride (RIP). But honestly I was happy with anything not food service related. I got "Merchentainer" or basically a cashier that worked in a giftshop. Once I got that role then I just hoped I wouldn't be stuck at a resort store all day. Luckily I was placed in Epcot surrounded by everyone from the Disney International College Program (as a wannabe traveler this was a DREAM).
Anyways, after making a few friends we would start going to the parks on our days off. I had just gotten home from The Magic Kingdom and couldn't find my phone. Luckily I had my laptop and emailed my family just for my mom to tell me that someone had called her saying that the phone was in lost and found. Next day I went to L&F and sure enough they had it! This happened 3 more times. One time it was missing for four days so my mom told me to use the insurance she got on the phone to get a new one. The day the replacement phone was delivered to my apartment someone from the laundry room (where all the uniforms were washed) contacted my boss and said my phone was found in one of my pockets.
I remember as a child going to Pennsylvania to visit Hershey Park or Sesame Street Water Park my dad had this habit of checking everything before we left the hotel room. Even if we never unpacked from our suitcase. Even under the beds where most hotels block it so you can only slide your hand three inches underneath my dad would pick up the comforter on all sides and check. I have never asked him if he's the one that cursed me but now I'm thinking he may have something to do with it.
Since my time working for the mouse I have consistently left something behind or forgotten it at home before the trip even starts. Before my last trip to Greece my sister said something that I repeat to anyone nervous about travelling.
"As long as you have your Passport and a Credit Card, the rest you can figure out"
After our trip to Greece she said "that quote was not a challenge you know, right?"

Guess where I went?…
Stayed at Art of Animation, in the Cars themed area. Great view of the main area, and I loved sleeping in the Murphy bed with Tow Mater sleeping.
We rode the Skyliner to Epcot the day we went. Got lots of good photos of World Showcase early in the day going to Frozen. It doesn’t open until 11 a.m. because of Florida’s alcohol serving rules, but the rides can open so there’s few to no one at the venues until then. (This may be the first perfect pic from Japan’s area in fact).
I also like the new way they light up Spaceship Earth.
Mom and I also went on it Saturday to look at everything at night. Got to see it, Magic Kingdom’s fireworks and then stop at Hollywood Studios so I could see the park (from outside but I haven’t been there).
Was very happy to see the Coca-Cola Cool Zone again with sofas around the world. I will not however try the sour plum one again likely (yes, I prefer Beverly, but even Red Plum Soda is better than the vegetable water years ago). I also liked cucumber Sprite.
Magic Kingdom was Thursday. I have more photos but these are three if my favorites.
Glad to see the sea dragon again near Lego Store at Disney Springs… and they’ve since changed several other builds to feature Frozen and Star Wars.
Was a very nice trip: we celebrated Mom’s 70th anniversary little early. The food was excellent, and the theming was great.
I’ll share more pics if you like (and if I have them).
But if you were wondering why so quiet… this is partially why. (And why the joke of traveling countries).

First Day Access !!!
After waiting for almost two weeks we were all handed out of admission passes that come complimentary for working at Disney. After training today Creed, Isabelle, and I drove to Epcot to use them for the first time. I’ll let the picture speak for themselves. We did Spaceship Earth first, then Gran Fiesta Tour, and then walked around the countries stopping in at Italy and Japan. We met up with Hannah and Carter in England for fish and chips. Chefs kiss best I’ve ever had hands down. Then Remy ratatouille adventure! My NEW FAVORITE ride. The most immersive and realistic ride I have experienced. The ride vehicles?!? Hello?? They move by themselves and just do everything flawlessly. My brothers will LOVE this ride. I want to do it over and over and over again.
We then tried to do Guardians but they wouldn’t let us ride since we didn’t have a virtual queue or lightning lane. We came up with a fake story and everything lol. We had so much fun tonight. Laughing and telling jokes non stop. So so fun. I’m happy to have friends already.
The next stop was test track. A brand new ride for me (they’ve redone it since 12 years ago). I was screaming/laughing the whole time and this just made everyone else laugh with me 😆. Much more fun than I remember. Also felt faster. Maybe because it is at night? Just a blast.
Oh by the way I forgot to mention that the British guy I matched on tinder with was working at the fish and chips shop we got food at. That was cute and funny.
The last thing we did was all use our company ID’s to buy new merch. HEART FULL 💙

Oh em geeeee rex imagine Anakin and Obi-Wan go to Disney for their honeymoon! Obi-Wan being a huge grump bc it’s hot and there are people everywhere and screaming kids—but putting on a brave face because he loves seeing Anakin so happy! And Anakin LOVES IT so much (until he gets overstimulated and almost has a public meltdown, but then they get to go back to the resort and cuddle up and make it all better 🥰)
I have honestly had the same thought! Maybe not necessarily for their honeymoon, but they take a trip to Disney to make Anakin's childhood dream come true and:
They have a great time. Sure, they'll have some issues to get through, but they're going to go home with great memories. Speaking of some issues...
Anakin feeling like a burden because sometimes his anxiety and overstimulation is making them take frequent breaks
One time they're in Animal Kingdom and it's just so hot and Anakin's clothes are growing uncomfortable, the crowds are making it hard to get through places, and even when they sit down to grab some quick food and drink, it's still loud and there are no tables in the shade. Anakin feels so guilty as he's trying to suck it up because they have a reservation at the Nomad Lounge and he really wants to go, but everything is grating on him and he can't focus and he's just not having a good time. Obi-Wan suggests they go back to the hotel, take a nap, regroup. Who cares if they miss their reservation? They'll come back later and finish the park and it's going to be okay. And Obi-Wan admits that he needs a little break too.
They come back to Animal Kingdom in the evening and they get to see Pandora at night with fewer crowds, no more direct sunlight, and Anakin can actually enjoy the experience. Imagine how much he would love the Nav'i River Journey!
Obi-Wan gives Anakin an important assignment: taking pictures and documenting their trip. Anakin takes so many pictures. Maybe he even brings the polaroid with them and he's having so much fun with it. (Also the amount of times he just wants to take Obi-Wan's picture and the background is barely discernible as Disney in the background is a lot, but Anakin doesn't care)
Obi-Wan has also never seen Anakin so willing to try different food. They go to Epcot and they try everything they can and Anakin willingly tries all the new things. Not everything he likes, but he's willing to try.
While at Epcot and Animal Kingdom, Anakin is constantly texting Qui-Gon with constant pictures of plants and flowers.
He's also obviously constantly texting Aayla with updates about what they're eating and drinking. If he sees something Aayla would like, he texts her and asks if she wants it because he's happy to bring it home for her.
Okay I guess I had a lot more thoughts on this than I originally thought, but also I really do love this idea because they would have an AMAZING time.

Me and Jess are on the ferry boat back to our hotel. We are real tired. I am thankfully not in as much pain as yesterday. Still hurting but it is not as bad. And today was a lot of fun.
Last night we did get to watch cars and I was surprised by the emotional intelligence and lack of actual racing. The way that little boys seem to like it so much I expected more action and was pleasantly surprised. Don't know about the second and third but the first was solid.
I would sleep okay but not enough. Waking up was really rough. But besides feeling a little out of it we were doing good. I got dressed and ready and was done and waiting for Jess. I was excited to head out.
We had not done the rope drop thing. Instead we slept an hour later and had a slow breakfast. We shared a lot this time. Basically all of today we shared our food. Which is fun. Get to try more things. The only bad part about breakfast was when we got stuck apart because of a big cart blocking the entrance to the area where we were sitting. And Jess's coffee was very bad. But we struggled through.
We headed to the bus. And while we had joked about all the buses being Epcot today, we were a little delayed by the first three buses actually being Epcot. Finally an animal Kingdom came and things were fine. We were starting a little later but that was okay.
I didn't realize how much longer the ride to Animal Kingdom was going to be. So I was extra glad we got seats. There was actually plenty of space on our bus but a lot of people were stuck squished up front because one guy absolutely would not move back. Just completely unaware and that kind of thing makes me a little crazy. Like when people were getting in the elevator before letting people get off. Just super obnoxious.
But it wasn't a bad ride at all and soon we were there!
Again this entrance surprised me. But it was closer to what I thought it would be. Our first goal was to get Jess Starbucks. I decided that in the end I didn't actually want to do the kids scavenger hunts. To many people, to busy. I just wanted to enjoy the experiences of the immersive spaces. And I think that was the right call.
We got Jess her coffee and I got a cake pop. The girl at the counter was really sweet about us celebrating our birthdays. Everyone was today. And it made me feel really happy.
We did a lot today and saw a whole lot of animals. We started with a walk through zoo. We saw hippos and gorillas and meerkats and so many other little monies and birds. The birds were extra fun because we got a big paper with all the birds to help us identify them and I insisted on asking the staff their favorite birds so I could look for those specifically. And it was just really fun.
One of the workers was from Baltimore and she told.me her brother was at the game on Sunday that James was at. Very bad loss. No more super bowl. But Baltimore will recover emotionally I'm sure.
After our exploration and seeing a bit of Asia, and taking pictures, we decided that we could get in the long 55 minute line for the ride on safari.
And this was really awesome. The wait wasn't horrendous, even though it's longs, we talked and had things to look at. I had ran out of line to go fill my water and enjoyed seeing a little.of Africa. I would find out where we could get corn on the cob. And when I got back to Jess we just kept moving and when we finally got to the front of the line we lucked out and got the entire back row to ourselves. Prime animal viewing.
We saw some amazing animals. Giraffes. Elephants. Wild dogs. Zebras. Even the trees were incredible. I wish it was long but it was about 20 minutes and that was great. I loved it and would highly recommend it.
Once we were off and out of the safari area (after stopping to look at the gift store and hugging a cheetah plush for a long time) we went to find the African street corn I saw. We would get two of those and a churro. And at the last second I saw they were selling three packs of baby bell cheeses and I thought that might be nice to have for later.
The corn was incredible. Just such an unexpected flavor. Curry and pepper and some underlying sweetness and I would absolutely have that again. We got to watch some drumming and it just felt like a festival. The whole atmosphere was fabulous and I loved all the small details. The torn signs, the graffiti, the minutia that makes things feel real and lived in. I was pretty blown away.
We decided that we would not go back to the hotel for a break and instead power through and just leave early, have a nap before dinner. And while this was risky I'm glad that's what we decided to do.
We went to dino land. Traded pins. I didn't know there were carnival games at Disney. I didn't want to play any but it was interesting to see. And the prizes were cute.
I didn't realize, or more so didn't remember, that there is a dinosaur ride. The movie Dinosaur. And it's about going back in time to bring one of the main dinos back. And I vaguely remembered going on it and even though it was a "dark bumpy car ride" I convinced Jess to indulge me. It wasn't a terribly long wait and I really wanted to do it.
And I'm so glad we did. The wait was well timed. With dinosaur fossils and videos. The immersion in the storyline was really well done (even if I recognized the actors), I was very excited.
We got to buckle into the time machine car. And I turned to Jess and said that I wished it could be tighter but I didn't know how to do that. And man was that a bit of foreshadowing.
This ride was crazy. It was basically one step below a rollercoaster the way we were being whipped around. It was loud (I'm very glad I suggested Jess put her ear buds in) and dark and flashing. There were animatronics dinos coming from every direction. It was an absolute blast.
But my feet didn't fully reach the ground. My toes did but not my heels. And I wasn't tightly buckled. And with the sides of the car being open I was pretty concerned I was going to call out of the side. So I tilted my body so I could get one foot firmly planted and just really tried to hold on. I was screaming and laughing and it was a rush in the best ways.
We were both shaken up at the end. For different reasons. She hated it. Rated it a 1/10. I absolutely adored it and thought it was the best thing. 10/10. Only downside was the line and the seat belt. Would do it again. She was so funny though telling me about why it was bad because all of her bad points were my good points. I appreciated her going along with me. It was great.
We went and used the bathroom. Washed our hands. I sat in the sun for a bit and oriented myself on the map.
Our next stop was Pandora to see the avatar stuff. We wanted to go to the river ride but the wait was going to be about an hour again. So at least we would start to head over there. And it was a nice walk. It was beautiful out and we were both in a good place. Sore but not to bad. We considered a snack. But as we got into Pandora I was a bit mesmerized. I bet this would be beautiful at night. The plants were amazing. Between the real and the fake it was all integrated so well. Something I have been really appreciating is the music. It transitions from one world/space/country to the next so senselessly while still keeping you immersed. And this was no different. It was so cool. We went to look at the food but I wasn't sure about it. We went in the gift shop and I was excited to see the baby Navi plush. They have so many babies of every character and I have been excited every time we see a "new" one. It is just very fun.
I decided we should go get in line for the river ride. No snack. Even though we probably could use it. And just use that time to scroll on our phones and chat and enjoy the scenery.
As we were standing there waiting, I went in my bag to put my sunglasses away and realized. The baby bell cheeses!! The snack I had saved!! You should have seen how stupidly excited we got about these. We each had one and a half baby bells and shared some of her water and it was perfect. Made the hour so much easier.
Right before we made it to the end of the line my feet and ankles were really bothering me. Standing still hurts a lot more then walking. I took my boots off for a moment to stretch them out and that helped. And then it was time for our river journey.
This ride, on the whole, probably wasn't worth the hour wait but it was worth it because of the animatronic at the end. The ride is a boat, and you are literally going through the woods. And it was beautiful and the music and singing was lovely. But it wasn't particularly exciting. It was just nice. There were some screens, but they were better integrated so it wasn't to hokey. But when we got to the animatronic I was blown away. This thing moved in such a realistic way. Like it took my breath away I could have just sat with it and watched it for so long it was so real. I have no idea who she was. I never saw the movie. But she was incredible.
We got off of the boat and I felt like it was just to soon. I wished there was more. But that was okay, it was time to try the food.
There was a frozen drink that was apple and pear (desert leaf specifically, which Jess had misread early as dessert pear and we were trying to figure out for a long time what that could be and we had a big silly laugh about that) and a cream cheese and pineapple wonton wrapped treat. We got those and found a sunny place to sit.
I really enjoyed my wonton thing. I did not like the drink. It was to sweet. And I love sweet things so that's saying something. Once we were to got sitting in the sun we continued our journey. And headed back to Asia.
Jess wanted my feedback and rating/ranking between the two parks. And I think overall Animal Kingdom is better. The counties were fabulous and felt like like a show case and more real, I loved the animals, I liked that it was less hamfisting movies into the different spots. We also got to see Pocahontas twice! And she was beautiful. I really loved our day.
We would have French fries with spices and Sriracha mayo in Asia. And then wander around into a few more shops. Backtracking to Maharajah where we had started our day. And that's where we called it. Time to go.
We would get back towards the gate and go in the last few gift shops. Jess got a really nice animal Kingdom pin. We went to the last little shop where they had pin trading and had a nice conversation with the girl working that table, just about the concept of pin trading and how it's so nice. And as we were talking I saw in the shop behind her the cheetah backpack from earlier. I had not stopped thinking about it. Jess said I kept bringing it up. So I went back in and after checking online and finding it for the same price, I decided this would be my last plushie of the trip.
We named her Margarine (Margorie as a nickname). And I love her. She's so soft. I was holding her when we headed over to a bench so Jess could wait for me while I ran to a bathroom when we noticed that she still had a security tag on her! The ink releasing kind! Ugh oh. So we had to go back to the shop to get them to remove it and the guy at the counter felt so bad!! He also struggled to get it off but he got his manager and it was all fixed. Margarine was free.
We went and got the bus back to the hotel. And it was right there. No waiting. We had much better luck the rest of the day when it came to that. We got back to the hotel in one piece and we're only mostly dying. Thankfully the bottoms of my feet weren't as painful as yesterday. It was mostly my shins and ankles. Jess had gotten stiff and slow from sitting on the bus but after a few yards we were able to walk about the same pace and got back to the room as my body started burning and I desperately wanted to lay down.
After stripping down and putting away my jewelery I was able to sleep for most of an hour. Jess said I was making funny squeaking sounds which James has also said I do. She thinks I should go back to an ENT. I will consider it.
I felt kind of bad when Jess woke me up. She said it was 6 and I was like AM?? But no. PM. It was time to get dressed again and go to dinner. I got myself out back together and just felt a little quiet inside. We went to take the ferry this time. And we had to speed walk a little bit we made it to the one that was at the dock. And got to Disney springs before 7.
We had a plan. Rings, pins, dinner. Jess wanted a ring that said "baby" and the man who did this one was super fast! 15 minutes!
So while he was doing that we went to look at pins. And talked to the nice old lady at the desk. It was nice.
We had to get to our reservation though and that was about on the other side of the water. So we walked to Summer House. And this was much fancier then I expected. But it was great!
Our waiter was so nice and the food was excellent. We got a bunch of stuff to share. Potato salad deviled eggs, chips and a flight of salsa and guac, cheesy bread, and a split order of gluten free pasta. It was so much food and it was all so so so good.
We got some of it to go for snacks later. And after laughing with our waiter for a minute we headed into the night.
We decided to check out some of the stores we missed. I couldn't stand to be in the candy or m&m store for long it was so sickly sweet and powdery. But we still had a lot of fun.
I really liked the Coca Cola store. I decided to get myself a cup. I know I do not need a cup. But I loved that it looks like a diet Coke can and it has a straw. I have actually been so good with not buying nonsense this trip. I am really happy with all my things so far. And I have said no to many things! I'm having a great time.
We would continue our walk. Going in and out of shops. I liked the Lego store but it was to warm. We would end our journey getting a coffee for Jess to save for the morning. And then we headed back to our boat.
We did get a little lost and turned around. But when we found the exit and the dock the boat was right there and it was an easy journey back.
We are back in the hotel now. Showered and clean and holding it together. We put on a movie, Luca this time, and so far I love the art style. I have no idea what the story is so I am looking forward to how it unfolds. I am also really looking forward to sleep.
Tomorrow we go to HollyWood Studio. I have the least amount of expectations for this one. But I'm excited for the journey. If should be warmer but the wind will be stronger. So I am just hoping for a lovely time.
Sleep well everyone. I love you! Goodnight!

Two Mouses In Love
Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse were strolling hand in hand through the enchanting Magic Kingdom, their hearts full of love and joy. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the vibrant Disney castle, and the air was filled with the sweet scent of cotton candy and popcorn. As they wandered through the bustling streets, Minnie couldn't help but marvel at the beauty surrounding them. The twinkling lights, the laughter of children, and the sounds of music that floated from every corner created a magical atmosphere. "Mickey," Minnie began, her voice filled with affection, "remember when we first met?" Mickey smiled, a sparkle in his eyes. "Of course, Minnie. It was a day that changed my life forever." They both reminisced about that special moment when they had locked eyes, their hearts instantly recognizing their soulmate. "We've shared countless adventures together," Minnie continued, "but what I treasure more than anything is our unwavering love and support for each other." Mickey nodded, his voice filled with gratitude. "You've been my rock, Minnie. Through thick and thin, you've always been there by my side, cheering me on." As they walked through the park illuminated by the gentle glow of the lanterns, they approached the iconic Cinderella's Carousel. They took a seat on the ornate carousel horses, and the ride began to swirl around. "Minnie," Mickey said, his voice filled with tenderness, "you truly complete me. When I'm with you, I feel like I can conquer anything." Minnie blushed, her smile radiant. "And you, Mickey, have shown me what it means to be loved unconditionally. Your kindness and compassion have touched my heart in ways I never thought possible." As the carousel spun, taking them on a whimsical journey, Minnie and Mickey's love grew stronger with each passing moment. From their first date at the enchanting Beauty and the Beast restaurant to their moonlit strolls through the picturesque gardens of Epcot, every memory they shared was etched in their hearts. They laughed as they recalled their mischievous adventures in their Clubhouse, where they solved mysteries and brightened the lives of their friends. Together, they were the epitome of love and friendship, inspiring happiness wherever they went. As the evening drew to a close, Mickey and Minnie found themselves in the heart of the park. They stood beneath a sky illuminated by countless fireworks, their bright colors dancing across the night canvas. Mickey took Minnie's delicate hand in his, his voice filled with emotion. "Minnie Mouse, I love you more than words can express. You are the light of my life, my forever partner in adventure." Tears of happiness filled Minnie's eyes as she replied, "Mickey Mouse, you are my truest love, my best friend, and my happily ever after. I am forever grateful to have you by my side." In that magical moment, beneath the bursting fireworks, they sealed their love with a kiss. The sky erupted in a breathtaking display of colors and lights, as if celebrating their love story alongside them. The love between Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse was a love that would endure the test of time. Through every obstacle, every triumph, and every magical adventure they embarked on, their love would remain as timeless as the enchanting world of Disney itself.

Stay Golden Sunday: Mixed Blessing
Dorothy's son Michael announces he's marrying an older Black woman, which causes some . . . friction with both his mom and future in-laws. Blanche and Rose get on an exercise kick.
Picture It...
Rose and Blanche burst into the living room, fresh from a run. They're giving themselves a makeover for a cruise, much to Dorothy's bemusement. Sophia leaves to go on an overnight trip to Epcot. After she goes, there's a ring at the bell: It's Michael, Dorothy's son, who's arrived for a surprise visit. He also has a big announcement: He's getting married. Dorothy is shocked into silence.
MICHAEL: Lorraine is . . . kind of . . . Black. DOROTHY: "Kind of Black?" What does that mean, kind of Black? That's like being "kind of Spanish." You know, either you are or you aren't. MICHAEL: She is. DOROTHY: Oh God. ROSE: . . . Emilio Estevez is kind of Spanish, Dorothy.
Michael says his fiancée is Lorraine, a singer who works with his band. He invited her to meet Dorothy and the Girls the next day, along with her family the day after that. There's also another surprise: Lorraine is Black. Dorothy takes a moment to compose herself from all of this news, then says that if Michael is happy and loves Lorraine, then that's all that matters. She gets Michael settled for the night.
The next day, Blanche is giving Rose a facial treatment while Dorothy paces nervously, waiting for Lorraine and Michael. There's a ring at the bell, and Dorothy opens it to the beautiful Lorraine, who at age 44 is a bit older than they were expecting. Dorothy introduces Rose and Blanche. Blanche and Rose usher Lorraine out while Dorothy confronts Michael about the age gap -- Lorraine is twice his age. Michael is furious that his mother is more concerned about that than his happiness.
youtube
That night, Rose, Blanche, and Dorothy confer in the kitchen. Blanche and Rose both urge Dorothy (Rose through the medium of a St. Olaf Story) to stay out of her son's business. Lorraine enters the kitchen and Blanche drags Rose away so the two can talk. Lorraine tells Dorothy about her own failed marriage with a seemingly perfect man and how she's not hung up on how her relationship with Michael looks.
Dorothy can relate with her own marriage, but she still doesn't approve. The next morning, Michael argues with his mother, but Dorothy keeps her heels dug in. The bell rings, and Dorothy admits Greta Wagner, Lorraine's mother, and her sisters Trudy and Libby. Greta mistakes Dorothy for the maid. Lorraine enters and introduces Dorothy. Blanche and Rose enter, wearing mud masks at the worst possible time.
GRETA: I could name ten fine, rich, young Black men off the top of my head. BLANCHE: Wait just a minute 'til I get a pencil!
Michael finally meets Greta, who suddenly is just as disapproving as Dorothy, but for a different reason: She doesn't like that Michael is white. The two mothers argue, with Dorothy saying the age gap is the bigger problem and Greta saying it's race. Sophia also arrives home from her day trip, just to make things even worse and is confused by all the strangers in the house. She also disapproves of the age gap.
Despite Rose's attempts to keep the peace, Greta storms out with her sisters and Michael and Lorraine retreat to their bedroom. Later that night, Dorothy fears she did the wrong thing. Blanche and Rose don't necessarily disagree. Greta and her sisters suddenly arrive, saying they feel terrible about the argument that happened earlier. Greta tells Dorothy they both disapprove of the marriage, so they should try to find a solution together.
DOROTHY: Do you like cheesecake? GRETA: Can Ella shatter glass?
The six women sit down for some bonding cheesecake. Sophia joins them for some crass-but seemingly-harmless banter. Rose is thrilled they're getting along and accidentally drops the news that she caught Lorraine and Michael heading out to elope. All seven women immediately race out to stop them. They meet Michael and Lorraine about to enter the chapel, where Lorraine hits them with a twist: She's pregnant.
She tells them if they don't approve, they won't get to see the baby. Greta and Dorothy step to one side and agree to put aside their disapproval for the sake of the grandchild. They congratulate the two, and the Girls all give her a makeshift trousseau. The Girls walk Lorraine and Michael into the chapel while the two prospective grandmothers argue about the baby's name.
SOPHIA: Fabulous. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving already.
"Your daughter looks like she's been around the block more times than the Good Humor man!"
Here we have it: The episode that I have been dreading ever since we started Season Three. Not because it's bad or even controversial -- but because I'm woefully underequipped to talk about the controversy in question. Ordinarily I'd do what I did with "The Housekeeper" and refer to the words of Winifred Hervey in lieu of my own. However, I don't have any convenient quote to use here. So I'm going to try and address the content of the episode neutrally, with my only opinions being about its quality and comedy.
SOPHIA: *to Greta* Is it true what they say about Black men in bed? BLANCHE: Oh yes, definitely. *everyone turns to stare at her* Oooooh yes, definitely that is something I would like to know about, too. DOROTHY: Blanche, please, that's a stereotype. TRUDY: Call it whatever you want, I'm just grateful it's true.
In case you missed it, this episode was pulled from Hulu for several months in 2020 thanks mostly to Blanche and Rose's mud masks resembling blackface. The response to this was decidedly mixed -- not necessarily out of any love for the episode itself, but most of the dissent I saw came from the perception that this was a performative and insincere gesture. Author and speaker Erica Williams Simon said, "I would just hate for the seriousness of this moment and movement to get lost in symbolic (and sometimes silly) overcorrections."
To give the episode its credit, the Girls say explicitly that, while they're surprised that Michael is marrying a Black woman, they do not have a problem with her race. Dorothy says point-blank that race isn't an issue, and Blanche passionately attests that everyone in her house believes everyone is equal (and she's not in the least bit discriminatory when it comes to what men she's willing to date). While Rose and Sophia may make some insensitive comments, they both have no issue with Lorraine being Black.
SOPHIA: What's all the racket? Oh, Martha and the Vandellas are back. DOROTHY: Ma! GRETA: It's all right, Dorothy. I've got one at home just like her. DOROTHY: You have one at home, too? SOPHIA: "One at home?" What am I, a cocker spaniel? Why don't you just give me an old sock to chew on.
That's not to say they don't act in a completely unproblematic way. To pull a quote from someone much smarter and more conversant in media than I am, Professor Racquel Gates of Columbia University explained in a Twitter thread why the episode, despite its best intentions, is still problematic -- and also why it's still offers something of value in context:
"That Lorraine's blackness is listed as the final thing that Dorothy finds objectionable about her when Michael describes her (along with her age) is racist, no question... Most often, the regular characters are the heroes who overcome or avoid the bad situation... Less often, the main characters learn that THEY'RE the problem, and the ep is about them evolving... "Mixed Blessings" isn't a perfect ep, but it focuses on poking fun at the white characters' racial anxieties. And that's quite different from a storyline that treats those anxieties as natural or justified."
BLANCHE: One thing I know for sure, I have not lost my hourglass figure. DOROTHY: And it looks like somebody poured about ninety minutes of extra sand in the glass. BLANCHE: You're just jealous of me, Dorothy. You know it, I know it, and Rose knows it. Don't you, Rose? ROSE: *having just measured Blanche's hips* It's neat the way the tape's a different color at this end. I haven't had this much off the spool since I measured the couch for slip covers.
But if I can say one thing in this episode's favor, it's really darned funny! Virginia Capers, who plays Greta, proves to be an excellent foil to Bea Arthur (and Estelle Getty to a lesser extent). The scene of the seven women joking together in the kitchen looks like it was great fun to film, and I love any episode that puts a guest star on even footing with the main characters, in terms of banter.
The final scene, where we discover the twist that Michael and Lorraine are having a baby, is one of the bigger twists of the series. It's enough to get both families to put their differences aside and applaud the marriage -- funnily enough, it seems that's what it takes for both grandmothers to finally realize the whole marriage is none of their darned business.
GRETA: So what are we gonna do? DOROTHY: What mothers have done since the beginning of time: Pretend that we're happy, and then complain to anybody who'll listen.
My personal complaints about this episode are extraordinarily petty. First, I hate the fact that Michael's age jumps around so much -- he was 29 last episode but acted like he was in his early twenties. Here he's 23 and acts like he's a 30-something ready to settle down. I appreciate that he's played by the same actor -- it lends some continuity the episode otherwise completely lacks.
The episode has a B-plot, but I use the word "has" loosely. Blanche and Rose are giving themselves a makeover in preparation for a cruise with a pair of men. They're getting in shape and trying beauty treatments to look their best. The whole thing vanishes by the midpoint of the episode -- the last of it we see is Blanche and Rose walking in their mud masks. It's almost as if the whole thing was a setup for precisely that uncomfortable joke. Hmm.
Episode rating: 🍰🍰🍰🍰 (four cheesecake slices out of five)
Favorite part of the episode:
Controversial though it may be, you can't beat a scene in which seven talented actresses take turns trading banter.
